Tiny chocolate shop down Peppertree lane! For a small shop, they do have a good variety of chocolate. I was surprised! I saw some pretty unique pieces too. I some festive chocolates in the shape of reindeer, gingerbread and dogs. So fun! I wanted something with white chocolate. I grabbed a piece of red velvet and lemon to try. They both were delicious! Cute little chocolate shop in Laguna Beach. The milk chocolate was alright, but I didn't care for the dark chocolate. I liked they had some nostalgia Willy Wonka Bars, I bought one it was my husband's 70th Birthday he could relate to it. I stumbled across this adorable chocolate shop while waiting in line for Gelato Paradiso. My blood sugar was low, and I needed a little snack to make me feel better. Thank goodness there wasn't a line! I walked in and was greeted by the friendly staff member behind the counter of goodies. There were so many options to choose from and some of the truffles were very unique and ornately decorated. (I'd definitely come back to purchase a gift box or two as the individual chocolates are so beautiful!) That said, I ordered the a brick of the English toffee, and to be honest, it was one of the best I've had in a long time. La Rue du Chocolat is my favorite quick dessert stop in Laguna. Not only is it adorable with it's charming traditional vibe, it's just got all the treats! Sometimes you just need an old-fashioned chocolate treat, or just an old school candy, and La Rue du Chocolat has it all. I'm obsessed with all the turtles and anything with caramel or nuts. They even have chocolate covered frozen bananas and chocolate covered strawberries. The variety is so plentiful you can't possibly feel complete without trying everything. We were walking around, exploring the area and walked in here on a whim. So many options for chocolates and candy. It was beautiful we packed candies which would have been great for hostess gifts and teacher appreciation gifts for the holidays. This is the most fantastic chocolate shop I've ever tried and I've tried a lot. Everything is beyond good and delicious. Their chocolate covered strawberries are made fresh, their pretzels have the perfect sweet and salty bite, the turtle to the little chocolate filled with a boozy surprise are all out of this world. Stopped by here after a nice lunch to pick up something sweet. It's been on my list for a long time. The biggest issue I had with the place was the service. It's a Tuesday afternoon and it was completely empty. Susie was rude and almost passive aggressive. I've never been to the store and I wanted to understand what I'm getting when I'm going to be paying at least $3 per piece of chocolate. Everything looks good and there is enough variety. Also there was no one else there. Someone came in before us and she was very nice and friendly to him. She probably saved me money because I probably would have ordered more. The chocolate was okay. 3.5 to 4 stars here. Some very cute concepts. Def made locally. Twixie was good. Better for those that like salted caramel. Hazelnut clusters were okay but the nuts tasted a little old. Maybe it was just 'one bad nut.' Still have the chocolate covered s'mores for my kids to enjoy. Luxurious chocolates. Friendly & helpful folks. The chocolates are very rich, without the sweetness or waxy texture of cheaper varieties. I tried the coconut mac nut cream and the coconut caramel. I was shocked at how good they both were. The gentleman working in the shop was so friendly and helpful. A nice little shop located in a fairytale like shopping alley right off the Main Street. It was very charming. The window displays draw you in with an exciting array of chocolate. I loved this place and have been coming for years. Tonight my friends ordered chocolates and I noticed that the girl working just grabbed every single one of them with her fingers. No tongs...no clear plastic gloves...just long-nailed fingers touching every single chocolate. I brought it to my friends attention but they didn't want to cause a scene. Needless to say I didn't order anything for myself. My friends, although bothered, still paid for the chocolates so that's on them. And I'm pretty sure she didn't wash her hands after the transaction she made with the customer prior. Whoever owns this establishment needs to do some quality control because that was really gross and unprofessional and I won't be bringing my friends there anymore. read more

The following is coming from the "Island of Lost Reviews" since my experience here was back in May and it has taken me until the end of August to write this review. This trip to La Rue du Chocolat was the second part of Erica's birthday after a lunch at South of Nick's. The alley has several businesses in it and the day we visited it was rather crowded so don't be like the woman in my photo and do everyone a favor by leaving your stroller parked somewhere. The shop is on the smaller side and I doubt more than ten people could fit in the place before you start rubbing elbows (possibly other things) with your fellow patrons. Another thing I observed is that there wasn't much common courtesy being demonstrated by the patrons during our visit as people would just cut in front of you without even asking if you were in line. A good portion of the décor ( https://bit.ly/345RUfz ) is beach-themed which is logical since the ocean is a few blocks from this store. Rohlinism: Some things are too cute to eat, especially four months after their purchase date! I never did get a report back from Erica about her purchases, but the milk chocolate fudge ball was part of our purchase and had a nice chocolate shell on the outside with a soft interior. The chocolate quality was comparable to See's Candy, but at a premium price tag which comes with being a business in Laguna Beach. The better half wanted to try the milk chocolate turtle with macadamia nuts ( https://bit.ly/2zqwFqD ) while I ordered a dark chocolate turtle with pecans and two (one milk and one dark) chocolate covered cherries. The chocolate items all had a fresh taste to them and neither of the nuts tasted the least bit stale. We were both disappointed the caramel in both turtles didn't extend to the edge of the candy and like the fudge ball the quality of chocolate and caramel was average. The fondant provided a nice liquid center to the cherries and the cherries themselves were plumb and juicy. For the higher price tag, none of the items we ordered possessed a "wow" factor that would justify the pricing at this shop. I read some of the reviews on Yelp which mentioned rude service, but I would classify the service here as more indifferent which is not what I would expect from a small business that really depends on return business. I think our total purchase was in the $30.00 range and I figure spending that much on chocolate would have garnered a little enthusiasm from the staff. I am not a person that writes about everything little thing on Yelp and it speaks volumes about this experience that writing this review took almost four months after the initial visit. I really don't see any reason to return here in the future and I can think of better ways to spend money when it comes to sweets. read more
