Gelato in a cone (2 flavors)
    Lindsey C.

We stopped by Truly Gelato in Dana Point during their soft opening this evening after seeing a TikTok video, and overall it was a good first experience with some room for improvement. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. While we waited in line, they offered samples, which was a nice touch and made the wait enjoyable. At the time of our visit, they were offering 9 gelato flavors, including: Madagascar Vanilla Bean, Valrhona Milk Chocolate, Sicilian Pistachio, Espresso, Passion Fruit Sorbet, White Chocolate Hazelnut, Lemon Sorbet, Cookie Butter, and Sea Salt Caramel (although the Sea Salt Caramel was unfortunately sold out when we visited). The gelato itself was delicious, but I was a little disappointed by the portion sizes. If you're used to Gelato Paradiso, the servings here are noticeably smaller for a higher price. My "regular size" two flavor cup wasn't packed very well - the scooper left a large air pocket underneath, so it looked full but actually contained MUCH less gelato than expected for the price ($9.50!). We also ordered a "regular" size two-flavor cone, and it was also much smaller than we anticipated for the price ($11.50!). I know soft openings are meant to work out the kinks, so I'm hopeful the portion consistency improves as they get settled. It would also be nice to be able to have more than 1-2 flavors. The quality of the gelato and the excellent customer service definitely make me want to give them another try.

Went to visit during their soft opening. The positive was the staff were very accommodating and friendly. They offered samples and you could try multiple flavors. The cons, the espresso was very bitter and had no flavor. There was not a large association of gelato flavors and the one we had was average. The bill for two espressos and one small gelato with a tip came to $20.

As a gelato and truly pizza fanatic, I can confidently say this is the best gelato I've ever had. This is the best tasting, smoothest consistency, and flavorful gelato I've ever had in my life. I tried all the flavors and am very impressed with the richness and flavor in each one. Their soft opening is going on right now and all of their staff is so kind and sweet! I loved their cookie butter and sea salt & caramel. Their white chocolate hazelnut was so so unique and their milk chocolate was very rich. I will 100% be back here. I also loved the way the shop was decorated and love the truly merch they have now!

What a sweet treat right next to Truly Pizza! We really enjoyed the well crafted gelatos. My favorites were the Madagascar Vanilla bean, espresso and passion fruit sorbet. You can also get coffee and they sell swag. Their menu is limited but the quality is A plus.

I've only been here a handful of times when there was no line, and that's usually because they had just opened. Otherwise, the line is almost always wrapped around the corner onto PCH--but it is absolutely worth the wait! I'm also really impressed with the staff. They are always on it! I actually time our wait every time we come, and they are incredibly consistent and quick. Even with a long line, our wait has never exceeded 25 minutes. And then there's the smell of those freshly baked waffle cone as you approach are to die for! The portions are generous, the gelato is delicious, and everything is always on point. It's one of those treats that just hits the spot every single time. Definitely worth the wait and easily one of our favorite monthly treats!

The alley itself is charming. Yes, there's a line but it moves quickly. Once you make it to the front the helpers are wonderful. Everyone working was nice and patient. Had two samples. Could sample every one. The menu is straightforward. Makes ordering quick and easy. They offer gelato and sorbetto. A flavor for everyone. The waffle cone is a must. Just writing this review is making my mouth water for seconds. Thank you Paradiso!!

Besides that, they had all the standard gelato flavors, plus a ton more unique ones! I was tempted to try so many of them (even though I'm that person that always just orders chocolate chip or hazelnut anyway). My daughter picked taro and the "sea witch" flavor, which was purple sweet potato and squid ink caramel. She got to sample both of them before deciding since I wasn't sure if she would like those flavors, but she did! And even though she mainly picked them because they were purple, they actually complimented each other well since they were both sweet root vegetables haha. This place offered 4 different sizes (kid, small, medium and large). Even the kid size was a bit much for my 4 year old daughter, but it's probably the right size for like a 10 year old... Naturally I helped her finish it! The gelato was delicious and I loved the uniqueness of both of these flavors! The visual aesthetic was fabulous, too. Our server was very kind and patient as my daughter decided what she wanted. We sat in the store for a few minutes as we ate before we headed back to our parking meter. There were around 4 small tables with a couple chairs each for sitting. It seems like enough since most people probably grab n go since there's so much window shopping to do in this area. In summary, we loved this gelato shop and can't wait to see what future seasonal flavors they have!
