What a cute place! This gelato shop is clean and nestled within several shops. Everywhere I travel, I get coconut ice cream or gelato. Coconut is my jam and this lil shop delivered! In addition , there was a young man making the waffle cones right there in front of us. I got 1/2 coconut and 1/2 strawberry cheesecakes. Husband got cookies n cream, which was tasty as well. It was a hot day and the sun, ripping apart at my skin, was screaming at me to get ice cream. Afraid of what it'll do if I say no, I relented and made my way to Gelato Paradiso. Line was short and I got my mint chocolate ice cream in less than 10 minutes. I didn't even need a sample, I'm a man who knows what I'm about. I honestly had no idea it even existed until my boyfriend and I were strolling along the strip in Laguna Beach and happened to walk by. We noticed this gelato spot was open and were immediately drawn in, especially since another gelato place nearby was cash-only, and this one accepts card. As soon as you walk in, it smells amazing. They make fresh cones every single day, and all the flavors look absolutely incredible. What's really cool is that you can get three different scoops in one cone or cup, or stick with multiple scoops of the same flavor if you want. I ended up getting raspberry sorbet, mint chocolate chip, and cookies and cream, and it was packed. The cone was super loaded, and every flavor was delicious. The staff were extremely friendly, and one cone came out to about $8, which honestly isn't bad at all. While we were there, the line started piling up behind us, and later that night it was completely out the door. Everyone was walking around Laguna Beach with gelato in hand. This spot is tucked away in a little alleyway, but it truly deserves a more visible storefront because it's that good. The ambiance is nice, but it's definitely more of a grab-your-gelato-and-go type of place, there's no seating. Hate to be a 'Karen' but the service here put a dampener on my experience. The staff member, a young man with brown hair, skipped over our party when taking orders. When I informed him that we haven't ordered yet, he said, "Can't I help these guys first?" We were wandering down the alleyway at 10:45 a.m. on Peppertree Lane and noticed a bunch of people eagerly awaiting the opening of Gelato Paradiso. We made a mental note to return after dinner. At that point there must have been around thirty or more people in line (?) spilling out on to the main street! We were glad we decided to wait as the line moved fairly quickly. I ordered the regular cup and was so happy they allow you to choose multiple flavors. I selected pistachio, rocky road and Italian cherry. (Basically making spumoni) It was probably one of the best dishes of gelato I've ever had - well worth the wait. Know that there is nowhere to sit so people just kind of hang out in the back alley and enjoy their dessert or eat it as they walk. I didn't capture a photo this time since it was so dark out. Gelato Paradiso, in LB is crazy busy for a reason. The lines for us have been super long 90% of the time. The longest was when it went down to the street past Nick's. The wait is worth it and it'll last longer than a Disneyland ride. If you do not want to wait and are able to get to the NB location before they close, that's another option, but by the time you get to NB, you would probably have already gotten your gelato. There are benches between the street and their door where you can sit and eat or rest as you wait your turn. Gelato Paradiso, makes all their own gelato with fresh ingredients including the waffle cones. Your nose will catch the delicious scent wafting through the air from the street or the adjacent parking structure. You can even get a small glimpse of their kitchen and freezing machine right before the store entrance. The store itself is standing only, enough space for the line, the cashier and then you're out the door. They've got many different flavors to suit your cravings and flavor profile. They have tart flavors, the sorbets, fruity, chocolates, nutty, etc. What we order and love; 1) mango sorbet 2) double chocolate 3) panna cotta - one of my faves 4) pistachio - my ABSOLUTE favorite here 5) dark chocolate hazelnut 6) cookies and cream 7) almond 8) tiramisu 9) rocky road 10) Dubai chocolate - but I still prefer the pistachio by itself The cups look a bit small but they round out your serving so don't let the size fool you. I love Gelato Paradiso. I recommend going in the morning near opening to avoid long lines especially if you have small children. My favorite flavor is the Raspberry. Today, we tried raspberry, coconut, and strawberry. The strawberry obviously tasted like strawberry and I would get again, while the coconut flavor was light and sweet. Honestly, I loved them all but the raspberry always will have my heart. The employee attending us was very pleasant and the establishment is always nice and tidy. Our local tour guides, one of whom is a 4 year yelp elite legend, member took us here for dessert and dare I say it was better than any gelato I had in Italy last month. And they have a window into their back room, SIL Laboratorio, where you can sometimes see how they create the ice cream. You really can't go wrong with any of the flavors here, they are all classics, with a few exotic flavors. The portions have gone from small, medium, large to now just medium and large. Luckily, the portion sizes haven't changed. They are still monstrous. One medium or large will easily feed two people. I got the large cone ($8.95), a three scoop monstrosity of flavor. A fruit aficionado, my cone carried peach, lemon, and mango, each delicate and bursting w flavor atop a homemade waffle cone that was tasty (albeit a little fresh off the press and not very crunchy). The young staff were friendly, offered samples, and were very generous with their scoops (see image below). The arcade the shop is located in is cobblestone-clad, vine-veiled, and absolutely attractive. Expect a longish wait on peak days and times (the line stretched out to the street, with a wait of 15 minutes).
