I went to this place on Saturday with a friend, we were both very hungry and were craving Korean food. The place looks a little run down but I actually liked the feel of it. We were sat immediately and given menus. We wanted to order a whole bunch but we've been horrible at ordering too much and we hate having leftovers. We thought of doing an appetizer and a soup to share. But we decided to just get the soup. We got the seafood nakji bukeum and thank god, we only ordered that! I think this pot could feed up to 4 people! We were pretty full! The server lady was really nice and made sure we were aware of how spicy it was. She offered us to try the soup before she brought out the pot. We've had korean food and we love spicy so we knew what we were getting. The spice level is just about average as other korean restaurants I've been to. The bonchon (side dishes) were really good! I enjoyed all of them which NEVER happens! So our seafood comes with a portable burner, the soup was already cooked so all it mainly did was keep it warm. It had vegetables and udon underneath. I was *this-close* to walking away because the "open" signs in the front were already off at 8:55 p.m. on a Saturday. When I popped my head in, I asked if they were open and the wait staff was actually hesitant to say "yes." But they did say yes, but made it clear that their kitchen was closed and I could only order from the sushi menu. Umm.. Ok? The sign out front indicates they close at 10 p.m. (menu shows 10:30 p.m. closing - apparently that hasn't been updated). I was kind of annoyed that the kitchen was closed so early, since I kind of wanted to order the katsu after reading the Yelp reviews. Alas, I settled for sushi only. My boyf and I got the following: spicy tuna roll, rainbow roll, some salmon roll (forgot the name), and red snapper sashimi. All of the rolls were great. The rice was just right and the spiciness was spot-on. The rolls were presented beautifully and they actually didn't fall apart! The sashimi was just OK. I do like the fact that miso soup and salad are served as part of the sushi meal (not extra $$). The soup and salad weren't anything spectacular, but sufficient. The rolls were average price (the spicy tuna was $7). Our bill was just shy of $40. The other two tables all had Korean dishes (maybe I'll try that next time?). I would say that out of all the foods I have tried (refer to the photos I posted) the rice on hot stone (dolsot bulnak bibimbap) was good. This place is really clean and looks really oriental. They have a sushi bar, but I am not sure how the sushi tastes. The price is around 12$ in average. As a party of 5, the bill had tip included. read more

I've been here several times now, and I would say this is one of the best restaurants that serves good Korean food. Dwenjang jjigae (aka soybean paste stew) is my favorite here! It's not too salty and not too bland. Soft tofu soup is also delicious! Banchan (side dishes) is the bomb here. Kimchi is sooooo good, and I freaking love the fishcakes. I also tried the spicy pork which tasted amazing! Odaku has a lunch special for bento boxes. But I do not recommend you to get the bento box. Bulgogi was hard to chew, and it was too oily for me. The rolls weren't that great either. Ginger salad was okay. If you are craving for some good Korean food, I do recommend you to visit Odaku. Really good food. Thought it was only japanese sushi but when we walked in we seen some people eating and they had kimchi on their tables. We ordered a few rolls and some kimchi stew along with some korean fried chicken that came came with some banchan. Everything tasted great and the customer service was also on point. We chose this restaurant because the other restaurant we're supposed to go was closed. Upon seating noticed a sign by table says that they "recommend you to keep masks on unless you're actively eating" as well as "when waiters approaching"... so we respected the suggestions and did our part. While waiting for our food to come, I was people watching.... It seemed like there's only one lady working in dinning room. I've noticed that she wears a pair of blue gloves while doing everything. I've observed for a while and saw her cleaning dishes, wiping tables, serving hot food, greeting new customers, taking orders, check out customers... etc BUT all wearing the VERY SAME gloves... sigh. Anyway my point is that PLEASE CHANG YOUR GLOVES! Yes, wearing masks can prevent CoVid, but washing hands and changing gloves especially after cleaning other people's dishes before serve food ALSO prevent other transmissible diseases... I work in health care and very restrictive about infection control, using the very same gloves for everything is LITERALLY meaning less. I wanted to give only 3 stars based on the cross contamination, but their food was pretty decent, thus 4 stars. read more

The first time they left out a little avocado which i didnt really mind too much, but the second time i ordered a roll with softshell crab, tuna, avocado, and cream cheese and they gave me a roll with just tuna and avocado. We had an excellent experience here. The food tasted great, it was fresh, and well presented. The picture includes (Dak Kang Jung, and Rainbow & Dragon rolls). Good Japanese food, but even better Korean cuisine! Great and fast/prompt customer service. I went to O'daku Sushi, in Austin, TX for a late lunch. A very surprising restaurant; I went in thinking to just get sushi but I ended up getting sushi and Korean food (, soybean paste beef/seafood stew [dwengjang chiggae]). I wanted to really like the sushi... in the reviews I read, the sushi was praised a lot. With this being my first time to O'daku, I went for a very plain salmon roll and sashimi appetizer (no sauces or anything to get in the way other than soy sauce). Maybe I have a really high standard for sushi given my history with sushi restaurants (it's only become worse over time). But in my opinion, the sushi was only just better than decent, like a 7.5/10. It could have been colder actually, the temperature of the fish made the fish taste a little older-- kind of obvious observation, I know, but the temperature of the salmon and tuna really changed my perception of the freshness. The price of the sushi roll was $9 too, and the sashimi appetizer was $12 (for 9 pieces)... Pricey. I think pricewise, the smarter thing to order would be special rolls (with 5+ ingredients) since they aren't that much more expensive and have more ingredients. I was still hungry though so I went for a Korean classic, the soybean stew. Was very, very, very good! The side dishes it came with were also great. After seeing other customers come in and overhearing their orders, I think O'daku does better with Korean food than Japanese food, which makes sense, seeing as the owners are Korean. Other than the flavor of course, the best part about the Korean spread was that everything that came out was not overly salty. I think that a lot of Korean restaurants overly salt the food, from the soup to the meat. I really appreciated the mild taste that didn't get in the way of the rest of the flavors. read more

Have lived in this area for almost 4 years and have always wanted to try this place and decided to come in on a whim today for lunch. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive the atmosphere is very warm. Everything we got was beyond amazing. Spicy garlic edamame had good flavor and a very good kick. My wife had a spider role and I had the Vegas roll and both were completely devoured. But do yourself a favor and order the Dak Kang Jung for the table. It is huge and beyond amazing! Came here for lunch because I was nearby for a doctor appointment. This place has great sushi. I ordered the lunch combo nigiri with spicy salmon roll hold the spicy and it was fantastic. Nigiri pieces were good cuts and great. Salmon roll came with cucumber and avocado inside out roll version, not the cheaper smaller salmon seaweed on the outside version. And it was only $10.99. When I feel like eating really healthy I like to come Odaku and order the Super Kapa. The Super Kapa is a rice-less roll consisting of salmon, tuna, escolar, masago, and avocado on the inside and topped with black tobiko, green onion and wrapped in cucumber. They also do a good miso soup. You can find the happy hour and other specials listed on a chalk board as you walk in. A plus on the happy hour is it runs later than most (5pm-8pm) Monday-Saturday. The happy hour is fairly limited and usually requires you order a set 3 items. Out of the happy hour and lunch specials I find Odaku a bit pricey. Odaku serves beer, sake and wine on the drink menu but the wine list is lacking. There is definitely room for improvement with ambiance and decor. Odaku is in a strip mall and does not do a great job letting you forget that while dining there. read more

I've been on the prowl for some of my favorite Korean summer soups. This was one of the only restaurants I could find that serves Kong Guksu , cold soy milk noodle soup. It came in a huge portion and I ate it all. I loved it. It took me right back to summer in Korea. The banchan was also plentiful and delicious, especially the potatoes, fish cake, and kimchi. I'm pretty sure I gained two very happy pounds in the hour I was there. Service was attentive and so friendly. I think this has become my new go to for Korean in Austin. The only downside for me was they only serve Japanese beer. I would have loved to have a Hite with my lunch. Overall, great menu serving both Japanese and Korean. I think anyone could find something they like here. Hearing Korean was also really comforting. read more

The plan was to get Bahn Mi sandwiches at Hot Boiled. Unfortunately there was a sign on the door that they would be closed from Jan. 7th until Jan. 15th. But it was Jan. 6th, and the doors were locked. Since it is located in a strip mall we had other options to choose as Plan B. We did not choose wisely. A quick walk two stores down was Odaku Sushi. I am always up for sushi. Only one other couple in the place but a few more straggled in while we were eating. The menu is the usual array of Sushi and Japanese food. My test is always the shrimp tempura. I really wanted the Benito Box but when I saw the price of $16.95 I passed due to the price. BF ordered the BiBIMBOP. The shrimp tempura was good. It came with two pieces of shrimp, two pieces of sweet potato, one asparagus, and one zucchini. It looked pretty in a wire basket with a small piece of paper on the bottom to hold the food in. It did nothing to stop the crumbles of tempura from falling on the table. The Bibimbop was a large bowl with beef, rice, steamed veggies, and a fried egg. There were also 5 small condiments served with it. I had to try each one so BF would know what each was. What I tried was good. So why only three stars? Because the food was good, but not outstanding, no WOW factor. For the prices it should be amazing not just good. If I am in the area, which is not often, I would eat here again. There is no way I would drive out of my way to come here again when CP has much better Japanese food. read more

BEST TEMPURA IN AUSTIN! They have happy hour(s and hours..) every day with discounted sushi, apps, and drinks. I'm a huge agedashi tofu fan, and they put a bit of a different spin on it. It's fabulous. Thankfully the soundtrack changed the last time I was in, otherwise, thanks to O'daku, I was pretty well versed in Jap-Pop. I was going there so often and their playlist was so limited, I found myself singing the lyrics to Japanese hip-hop songs whilst enjoying my tempura udon (which is NOT TO BE MISSED, btw!). PROS: -Tempura -Udon soup -Agedashi Tofu -I've heard great things about their handmade steamed dumplings CONS: -The fish-to-rice proportions are just off with the sushi. It may seem like they're being generous with the fish, but it's just not quite right.. so unfortunately, sushi is just not their thing (in my opinion). BUT.. The server seemed preoccupied and uninterested in us and our order. There were only about 2 other couples in there, so it couldn't have been that they were busy. Their tonkatsu is served in a giant portion and comes with Korean side dishes, rice topped with a fried egg, and cabbage salad, and it's soft but crispy as it should be. I like that the sauce is served on the side, because everyone has different preferences in the amount of sauce you add. I haven't tried the sushi here, but the Korean food seems to be pretty on point. I think I'd come here again to get KBBQ or another Korean dish. The sides were great; especially the pajeon. I wasn't expecting to receive banchan so it was a nice surprise. Inside, there are bbq tables if you are in the mood for meat, and the environment is very intimate and cozy.
