I just came from this place. Pro is that it's a great late night option and the menu has variety. I've been to the one in Niles and very similar menu and their food is on point- more on that. My buddies got the fajitas and wings. Both seemed okay. I ordered the Philly. Not just a regular - but the "no veggie" one with supposedly EXTRA MEAT AND CHEESE. It's actually $3.00 more than a regular!!! Anyway I was disappointed because it was not extra anything. It actually looked like it was less meat than a regular. Let's just say I had bites of empty bread at points. I had the flattest Philly cheesesteak and it was disappointing because I paid for that. I've had Phillies at the Niles location and it was 2x as full as what I got today. This was a sorry sandwich - this place skimps out! Also this was 1am. My sweet man and I eyeballed this spot for a while and had it on our list of Chicago hot spots to check out. NYC HALAL EATS is the truth. Go grab a plate, NY style chopped cheese, or a Salito bowl. My honey bear got a mixed plate and I got the seafood plate. They both came with salad, fries, fragrant rice and the drizzle. Great ambiance, city vibes, spacious, cool wall art. Just tried this place through Uber Eats and WOW. I'm someone who will try just about any rice and chicken combo and let me tell you, this one blew me away. Hands down the best lunch order I've had in a long time. The quantity is great, I had enough for two meals. The sauces are spicy and so flavorful If you're ever craving good chicken and flavorful rice, this is the spot. It's officially my favorite Uber Eats order now. I had seen this place pop up when it first opened, but I rarely find myself in this part of town. One day last week, I had to be up in Rogers Park for work and decided to swing by for lunch. I was the only person in there, except for a couple Uber eats drivers picking up orders. There is plenty of seating and the inside is super clean. They have a huge menu but i came for the famous combo plate with lamb and chicken. The person at the counter was welcoming. She packed my container like a professional Tetris player. I first saw NYC Halal Eats on Instagram and made a mental note to check it out for their Chopped Cheese. As someone who basically treats NYC like a second home, I was *hyped* for this opening. Now, how I ended up near Devon St. that day? No clue. I can't even remember what I was doing up there, but my stomach didn't care--it was demanding food, and NYC Halal Eats popped up. Naturally, I zoomed over ASAP. Let me just say, the Chopped Cheese *did not disappoint*. It was fresh, perfectly seasoned, and absolutely delicious. Big props to them for nailing that iconic NYC flavor. BRAVO! I also got the chicken and rice plate, which was solid but not as memorable. The flavors were good, and the portion size was generous, but it didn't wow me like the Chopped Cheese did. Good thing ordering food was quick and menu is not hard to read. Like the variety of drinks, the Blue Freez drink was good. Now the not so good, I got the lamb gyro and it was dry, like no white sauce what so ever. Since it was my first time, I wish I would've known to order more but pictures I've seen showed otherwise. I didn't experience any rudeness like many reviewers. Food wasn't the worst nor the best. Decent. I don't know of many halal places near downtown but this particular neighborhood has plenty. What sets this place apart is they're an American version because aside from falafel & various Indian or Mediterranean dishes they serve New York classics such as Philly cheese steaks & chopped cheese. The price point is definitely on the higher side because I paid almost $40 for two entrees & a side. Exercise patients because the food will take upwards of 10-15 minutes. The fries were the worst of the bunch. They could benefit with some seasoning. For the bargain price of $48, I was served a philly steak that resembled a culinary crime scene--a horrifying mush of dubious origins, melded with ancient cheese and embalmed in mysterious spices. Any self-respecting Philadelphian would weep at the sight of this monstrosity. The NYC gyro? An identity crisis on a plate, tasting suspiciously like chicken tikka masala. If cultural confusion was their aim, they've nailed it. Forget about the French fries. Your 'five guys' don't work here. But the crowning achievement of this gastronomic horror show was the "fresh" lemon, a steal at $4. Imagine my surprise when I discovered it was worse than Kool-Aid, and about as fresh as a decade-old fruitcake. Do yourself a monumental favor and stick to the reliable pizzas, burgers and fries. Don't squander your money or energy on this travesty. Unless, of course, you have a peculiar craving for subpar Indian/Pakistani takeout masquerading as a Philly-NYC fusion. The meat was seasoned well, not too salty, moist and not overcooked. We ordered two mixed platters and two gyros. We were super full and had leftovers. The white sauce was SO GOOD. I want it on everything, for ever. Compared to similar places the prices were reasonable. For what we ordered, and the portions we received anyway.
