The best Gyros in the city. I also like the soup and spinach pies. Dinka's are good for desert. It's a full size Greek decor family style resturant. Service is fine and friendly. There is street parking and a parking Garage Accross the street. Pay the box. It might be possible to find street parking blocks away. It is located on Central Ave near Belmont Ave

Been going here for 40 years and still amazing! We used to live near by and came to central gyros all the time. Far away now, but worth the trip! I had a beer, the delicious hot and tasty lemon soup and the amazing tender, flavorful gyros. If I was with a group I would have had the Saganaki for sure. Their flaming cheese and fresh chewy crust bread was always the best. I am just so glad i got gyro, because I almost didn't. Recently I have had several gyros at other greek places and the dry, overcooked or greasy meat had turned me off of them. Central gyros are how a gyros should taste! Try their food! Only criticism is that they need to make their sign visible! The trees have completely hidden their cool street sign. They would really get more people if the sign was not buried behind the two trees. Call the city.

Our server has been working there for 20+ years and is super sweet and awesome at her job! My gf and I always go back and forth about who has better gyros (central gyros or gyros express). Well, I finally got to see what she is raving about. Saganaki is phenomenal! Best I have ever tasted, melts in your mouth. On top of their bread was perfection. Gyros, were delicious (but gyros express is better). Was a bit disappointed with the portion size. Normally, when we get a platter with an extra pita, we can stuff our gyros so they can barely close and still have more to pick at, this wasn't the case....we had to order and extra side of meat. So what really makes it a platter? Not sure. The restaurant itself has a great Greek feeling and decor.

I've been coming to Central Gyros ever since I was a little kid - how have I not reviewed this place yet?!?! Central Gyros is by far my favorite Greek restaurant. This restaurant is incredibly humble, down-to-earth, spacious, and extremely delicious. They have a die hard staff that has been for years. The service here is spectacular - they're so hard working and they know their menu off the back of their hands. I also found out they have new owners now during my most recent visit a few days ago; I've always loved the staff here! The food is where the gold's at. This Greek food is GOOOOOD. I highly recommend their chicken shish kabob plate that comes with rice, potatoes, and a soup. Their avgolemono soup is the best in the area. I squeeze extra lemon in it to make it more sour. Their gyros are to die for and their Greek salad is light and refreshing. Their fries are very thick and potatoey, too - my family absolutely loves the fries. The complimentary seeded bread is endless and yummy. They also have the best Greek potatoes I've ever had at any Greek place. It's all reasonably priced, as well. Overall, if you're looking for a delicious, down-to-earth spot for some Greek food, you've found it!

Central Gyros seems to be super popular and a favorite for many. I had to check this place out, because one of my favorite foods is gyros. I did a carry-out, in which I ordered the Gyro sandwich - I did ask for this well-done, extra onions, with the tzaziki and the tomatoes. They definitely delivered on the onions, which I super appreciated. However, the pita bread was kind of stale - should have been buttered up and super fluffy. The gyro meat was a little hard and chewy, as if they were already cooked in advanced and barely warmed up; I was expecting more of the 'fried' that they describe on the menu, which would have been more crispy and more greasy... Definitely on the saltier end, which I didn't mind. The portion is great, and you could easily make two pita sandwiches out of the meat. The restaurant itself had a funny odor; not sure if there was carpeting inside or not, but there was some type of a musty smell that I was not a fan of. Staff were super friendly and welcoming! There's a free city parking garage across the street, which is super convenient - just be careful crossing Central, as it's a super busy street. +chewy gyro meat +friendly service! +free city garage across the street

A real neighborhood spot with authentic Greek food. In between fast casual and upscale dining in a dining room setting. The decor is reminiscent of old style Greek murals that adorn the walls. It is bright and airy and the tables are a decent distance apart so you're not on top of each other. The restrooms and super clean which is a big plus with me. I always get an idea of how owners and management feels about their establishment by the sense of the restrooms and quality of napkins. Here, with get a big ups! The server was excellent! I wish i remember his name as I always make it a point to ask names of those who so graciously choose to serve my meal. It's not an easy job and these folks don't get nearly enough kudos. I super nice Hispanic guy who knew his menu well and suggested choices from the menu. Their offerings are 100% Greek and authentic in every way. You really can't go wrong here on what you order. There is something for everyone vegetarian and carnivore alike. Greek food being generally vegetarian friendly offers excellent non meat selections. I try different things here though today went with the gyros plate. A plate full of of quality gyros meat on a bed of fresh cut white onion and sliced tomatoes. Pita bread on the side with their Tzatziki sauce makes for an excellent filling lunch. There is the option between rice or very good steak fries with you plate. I've had the rice and it's excellent however this was a fry day. The fries are thick long and not at all greasy. If I had to give a 5 star on any particular item it would be the Avgolemonos soup. A Greek style egg drop should with rice in a thin lemon broth with an excellent flavor. This is my absolute favorite and of soups and I know soup. Central Gyros hands down has the absolute best Avgolemonos in the city. This alone with their legit Greek salad would be an excellent meal anytime a day. This soup will warm you and fill your taste buds with joy. So try some soon. An excellent choice to dine at lunch or dinner.

Had a lovely lunch experience here today. Dined alone, and got probably the simplest menu item: gyros, fries, and a Coke. The gentleman made me feel so at home; he was very attentive without hovering, and best of all the food was incredible. Thinly sliced gyros meat piled high on perfectly griddled pita. Super hot and fresh steal fries. Great experience, hot and fresh, great service, delicious! What more could you ask for?

Established over 40 years ago this family run Greek restaurant, deemed to have some of the best gyros in chicago! Had the hummus and pita, roasted red pepper enhanced the homemade flavors of the hummus, enjoyed the chicken and rice soup with lemon, which was absolutely delicious. Gyros were very good, not greasy and the perfect size, meat was a mix of beef and lamb, their specialty. Added grilled onions to mine and it came with thick fries. Side of Greek rice was a bit bland, but overall a really nice solid meal at reasonable prices, and very friendly service! We

We shared the Sweet Corn Hummus, Spicy Whipped Feta, Brussels Sprouts, Crispy Wild Mushrooms, Crispy Potatoes, Grilled Chicken, and the Lamb & Beef Kefta. Every single dish was outstanding. I wish I had taken more photos, but we were too busy enjoying the food as it arrived at the table! For drinks, my sister loved the Strawberry Rose Paloma, and I enjoyed a glass of Kir-Yianni Sparkling Rosé, which paired beautifully with the meal. The warm, seasoned pita deserves its own recognition. It's soft, pillowy, and absolutely addictive. Honestly, it's hard not to fill up on the pita and spreads before the rest of the meal even arrives. Our server struck the perfect balance between friendly and attentive, without ever feeling intrusive. We usually make room for dessert, but we were completely stuffed this time. In the past, though, I've loved both the Warm Sticky Date Cake and the Frozen Greek Yogurt, and I'd recommend either without hesitation. I was secretly hoping for a tiny scoop of frozen yogurt as a birthday surprise, but my server didn't mention it and I didn't remind him of the celebration (and honestly, we were way too full anyway ). As a huge Top Chef fan, it's always special dining at Chef CJ Jacobson's restaurant. I had the opportunity to meet him during my very first visit to Ema, and he was incredibly gracious. His creativity and attention to flavor are evident in every dish. Ema continues to set the standard for what a great dining experience should be. It's the restaurant I recommend most often when people ask me where to eat in Chicago, and it remains my go-to place for special celebrations. I can't wait to come back again soon! #ImNotAFoodie #ImJustAGirlWhoLovesFood #YelpEliteSquad PS: the hotel next door no longer provides parking validation.

I have to admit... it's not the same as it used to be. Don't get me wrong, it's an excellent place to dine at, especially on their patio during the Chicago summer, which was one of the biggest reasons why I came back. I was with someone who had not explored Chicago before so it definitely gave the city ambience while being engulfed in the Mediterranean experience. Yet the inside dining area feels like you're dining in small romantic villages in Italy or Greece. Service is still top notch. But the food is what's not the same. For me, the highlight was the crispy short rib hummus. I never thought they'd go well together but the juices from the meat blended in with the hummus and it's just soooo good. The kefta was nothing to be impressed about in which I expected more for the price we paid for. The chicken thighs were good but also nothing to be that impressed about. The one thing I was a little disappointed by is that they no longer serve a desert I tried the first time I was there, and their new desserts are average. Nothing to marvel about. Their OG desert is what had stayed in my mind all these years. You can't go wrong for a nice little date night at this spot or if you're new to the city, but it's not exactly a place I feel like I want to come back to, especially at that price. I opted for the chicken kalamata dinner for the main event, which came with more french bread and a salad. The salad came out first, and it was pretty simple with minimal dressing. I wished there had been more variety in produce and something besides iceberg lettuce for greens. I'd recommend getting some feta on the side to add some flavor. The chicken, however, was absolutely outstanding. It was super tender, seasoned beautifully with za'atar, and brined in vinegar (I think). The za'atar seasoned french fries underneath were extra crispy and perfectly soaked up the extra sauce from the chicken. For the price, this place is a steal- you really can't beat the quantity and quality of food that you get. Overall, a great experience- I definitely recommend making a stop if you're in the area!

We tried the skirt steak and chicken. The steak is OUTSTANDING. I'm not sure what secret spice blend they use in the kitchen but it's delicious. We always make sure to order a side of pita and Tzatziki to make our own gyros. The chicken is also a great choice, but the steak remains #1. The service here is always quick. We've never had to wait for a table, but if we did the bar connected next door is a great place to hang out in the meantime.

I don't really go out to Greek restaurants often but this place was really good. There were 10…read morepeople in our party and we ordered around 16 dishes. We ordered the breads and the spread and the pita was so warm and delicious! The spicy feta and the tzatziki were a hit. We ordered some horiatiki salata which was a nice and refreshing taste to balance all the heavy meats. If you want to try everything and people aren't picky, family style is the best! We started off with the crispy zucchini and egg plant. These were fried and more like veggie chips. Nonetheless the crunch with the dip was delectable. The waitress was so helpful and she served/cut each plate so everyone got to try one. The saganaki (Greek pan fried cheese) came out flamed! Such a show stopper and really delicious, dense cheese. We also ordered the slow roasted lamb gyros, charred octopus, bouzoukia potatoes, wagyu beef skewer, chicken skewer, grilled lamb skewer, grilled roasted chicken, and branzino. We ordered A LOT of food and every dish was so flavorful and packed a punch. Lastly, we finished it off with dessert with loukoumades which are Greek fried donuts. Such a sweet and warm dessert to end off an amazing meal. Truly impeccable service, vibes were amazing, and 10/10 would come here again!

I think my one complaint would be I was expected the towel swinging + more sparklers for how loud it was in there so at times it just felt like a REALLY LOUD place to be where you also ordered up scale mediterranean food... but other than that I won't complain because the food was delicious. To start, I got the drink with tequila which was stunning and beautiful. To start, we got the dips which came with veggies and pita and each one was delicious. We also tried the wagyu meatballs which were super tender, the spanokopita which is a classic and the calamari. For the entrees, we shared the chicken and the halibut both of which were delish. We ordered plenty of food and had a lovely evening!

It's got a decent amount of seating and some TVs scattered throughout the restaurant. The inside is nice but seems a little older for sure. When I was there I tried the Philly which came a a big seeded roll, was piping hot and fresh also came with my choice of potato which I got Greek style (it was huge and amazing). For delivery I got a gyro plate which was a nice amount of food as well (also very good) came with a Greek salad and typical platter sides, tzatziki sauces. I'll be back and probably would order delivery from here again. The menu is huge and there's a lot of options to try.

So, this is not the cute Greek restaurant you visit in Greektown. This is "the walk through the ice…read morecream shop and display cases, to the dark panel traditional Chicago-style bar, back to the rear and up some stairs to chairs and tables in a dining room with TVs on the wall" type of spot. And I was here for it! Great service from our server. Good quality and variety of food. (Hello, octopus?!). The "Greek" dressing on my Greek salad was...interesting. I'll definitely make sure to just ask for oil and vinegar next time. Drinks were a generous pour and didn't take long to be made. Overall, it's what I'd consider a "true Chicago kickback spot"z: No frills, but worthy.
