From the moment we stepped down into the space, we knew we were in for a great experience. The main dining room was filling up, and the buzz felt like classic NYC. Service was warm and immediate...water arrived right away, along with a generous bread basket featuring the best toast sticks (honestly worth mentioning on their own). We started with the eggplant appetizer, which was spot-on: the right balance of tomatoes and fresh mozzarella, and the perfect way to wake up the palate. The wild mushroom salad was equally delicious...earthy, satisfying, and beautifully composed. For mains, we had the pappardelle with lamb ragù. The flavor and texture were excellent, though I was a little surprised to find the lamb was ground rather than shredded. The true standout, though, was the swordfish Milanese...perfectly crisp, not heavy, and made even better by the fresh tomato salad layered on top. That's not a deal breaker for me, but the bus boys were constantly hovering over the table, yet our waiter was never anywhere to be found. Now onto the food.. we split the stuffed zucchinis for an appetizer and they were very bland. My sister got the stuffed chicken which came out dry, but still flavorful. My mom's dish was the best of the night. The braised beef gnocchi. The gnocchi themselves were super soft but the sauce was rich and flavorful with lots of chunks of meat. We sat outside and it was pleasant except that the server forgot about us. The runners were attentive but the person who actually took our food order took forever to come over to us. I had a cocktail and it was pretty good. I don't remember the appetizer because it wasn't that memorable. I had the carbonara and it was only ok. My, my, my, this experience was divine. There is something so authentic about this restaurant. The staff treat you like family here. Gennaro got to know all the tables and was a class act to have around you start our night off. The wait staff here is attentive and does not let you feel forgotten. The restaurant is tight but it did not feel as though you were directly on top of the table next to you. And might I add, they were packed! To start I had an espresso martini and it was delicious. Perfectly strong and tasty. For the table, we ordered the Insalata di carciofini. It came with artichoke, mushrooms, celery, greens and parmigiano shavings. It was dressed in olive oil and the flavors mixed so well together. I never like celery, but it works so well in this dish! My dish was the Paglia e fieno alla bolognese. The pasta was fresh, the meat sauce was to die for and I loved that you could see the tomatoes in the sauce. It was very authentically done. I loved every bite. My favorite restaurant in this neighborhood (where I usually stay when in NY). Love, love, love the black pasta.

Upon walking in, they had curtains, possibly for privacy or to keep out the cold for winter. We had made a reservation and were seated promptly. We were seated in a back room, so it was very private. The rest of the restaurant looked very beautiful and peaceful as well. Our waiter allowed us to go over rhe menu and then went over the specials for the night. Initially we had an idea of what we wanted, but that changed as soon as we heard the specials. We ordered the buffalo mozzarella with cherry tomatoes as our appetizer. I am a huge fan of buffalo mozzarella, so I already had high expectations, and they absolutely delivered. The mozzarella was creamy on the inside and had the perfect amount of salt that paired with the freshness of the tomatoes. It was a very refreshing dish to start our meal. They also provided bread, as well as breadsticks and have olive oil, salt, and pepper at the table to make some dipping oil. The bread was very good, nice soft inside with a rougher outside, and the bread sticks were amazingly crunchy. For our main dishes we got the gnocchi ragu/shirt rib and the truffle pasta - both specials. The gnocchi was unlike any gnocchi I have had. It was a perfect balance between fluffy with a bite. The meat was very tender and paired well with the gnocchi. I believe it also had tomatoes which cut through the savory dish. The truffle pasta was better than expected. Often times, I feel like truffle dishes can be overbearing, but this one was light and allowed you to taste the pasta, sauce, and truffle together, rather than a strong truffle flavor overbearing the other ingredients. The pasta was perfectly al dente and 1000% made in house/fresh. The cream sauce was light, and although I was incredibly full, I didn't feel weighed down like a normal cream sauce can make you feel. For dessert, we had the gelato affogato. If you're a fan of affogato in general, definitely order it. The espresso was had a strong full flavor and balanced well with the sweet ice cream. Overall, I would highly recommend it for a date night or overall nice night out. The ambience was great, the staff was very kind, and the food was unbelievable. read more

I was in New York over the weekend and had called the AMEX concierge to recommend an italian restaurant. This was one of the recommendations and without looking at the reviews, we came here Saturday night. We were sat right away, the server was attentive at first, but as soon as our food was brought, he was no longer attentive to our table. Not once, but twice he went around to ask every table how they were doing/ how was their meal except our table. At one point, he was looking at the front of the room (we were seated at the back wall by the wine) and was scratching the back of his head with a pen. Went there on a date and the lady I was with selected this place. Both of us had not been here before so it was a first being on a date with her, as well as the restaurant itself. This is a high end Italian restaurant right next to Gramercy Park, and draws an upscale gentry. Everything there seemed well thought through, white table cloths, olive oil on the table, attentive staff and a nice ambiance overall. We were able to get a better table, though the place got pretty full very quickly. I ordered the "Spaghettini neri ai frutti di mare", which was Black squid ink spaghettini with mixed seafood and spicy tomato sauce. It was a bit adventurous for a first date, but it prevented me from sharing it with my date as she had never had Black Squid spaghetti before. The place is a bit steep price wise, but given the location and the clientele it caters too, it is pretty appropriate. Great experience in a beautiful location. read more

I also desired parmesan for my entree- again the bus boy came over and provided it. Especially, During pandemic, she need extra care and attention. This place has a nice set up for outdoor dining, featuring individual glass houses and heated tents. I know I wanted to experience the glass houses, so noted that in my reservation. The restaurant was able to accommodate my request without too much of a wait. I was torn between the roasted Australian rack of lamb and the filet mignon. I finally decided on the rack of lamb, which was served with a mustard crust and sautéed baby spinach, even though to my surprise, the price was $5+ more than what was listed on the website. This was a beautiful dish, and I was pleased with my selection. There were 3 perfectly cooked lamb chops, with just the right amount of sear. It came with a nice savory sauce, which actually wasn't needed, as the lamb chops were incredibly juicy, flavorful, and tender on its own. The lamb chops had a slight crispiness, which added to the deliciousness. Each bite was absolutely mouthwatering! Even the spinach was tasty, and I'm not really a fan of that particular vegetable. For dessert, I ordered the warm chocolate tart with pistachio sauce and white chocolate gelato. This was as delightful as it sounds. The chocolate tart had a lovely thick, crunchy, yummy crust and it was filled with rich, velvety smooth chocolate, which was dusted with yummy pistachio. The white chocolate gelato was irresistibly creamy and sweet. The pistachio sauce was nutty, adding a depth of flavor, which paired well with both the chocolate tart and the gelato. Service was wonderful throughout, but the meal was on the expensive side, which is why I tried everything I wanted to on my first visit. It was definitely a splurge for me, so I won't be returning in the near future. read more

We had an event here that went very smoothly for a large party. Aside from us, the crowd tended to be on the older side with not the best diversity as other restaurants in the neighborhood. We started off with wine. There was an extensive list. I got a very good Argentinian malbec. For my appetizer, I got the Insalate de pesce. It sounded amazing, but I don't remember thinking that I would order it again. However, I would definitely order my pasta dish again, which was this creamy pasta dish with seafood. I went in march 2021 so outdoor seating was a bit worrisome for me (Californians get cold very easily) But they had little plastic domes with gas heaters so it all worked out well. Waiter was inattentive, spent his time flirting with a group of women. Never came to see if we needed more wine, dessert or even the check. At one point he sat at a vacant table to eat. For the items that were split between two people, the staff was able to portion out the split on two different plates. Service was attentive but not overbearing. Absolutely loved the two pastas I tried (cacio e pepe and the squid ink frutti de mare) - precisely al dente and such great flavors. Veal chop and osso buco were large meat portions. I can't believe I have worked and/or lived near this place for 8 years and just went here for the first time last night. Everything from the food to the service to the cute outdoor greenhouses was outstanding. Everyone loved their meals and we had great wine to pair everything with. The special Zucchini Flowers are an absolute must order. They are heavenly and basically melt in your mouth. The Carbonara may be the best I ever had (I feel like I am cheating on Barbutto w/ that bold statement). And the Veal Milanese was to die for. I tried some bites of everyone else's apps/entrees - Asparagus, the Orecchiette, Lobster Pasta (special) and Veal Osso Buco (special) and they were all delicious. Service was great here - we were not rushed at all and each course was spaced out perfectly. The apps were plated individually and they even plated the half portion of the veal I was splitting separately. Last time I went, it was fantastic. This time it was just alright. We reserved a table for my birthday dinner. The service was so slow I almost thought they were ignoring us. The food was good but definitely not as flavorful as it had been in the past. The seafood spaghetti had barely any flavor. And in my shrimp pasta, there were tons of shrimp shells which was a bit frustrating. The portions were smaller, too. The bread, particularly the breadsticks, was excellent and happily replenished. The service was very attentive without being overbearing. There aren't that many sub- $100 bottles of wine. We were one for two with our selections. The food was excellent. We shared perfectly cooked cacio e Pepe to start. My wife had branzino they was expertly filleted tableside. I've been here a few times and though I've never been blown away by the food, it is consistently good. This place was such a cozy oasis hidden on 22nd street. It was like a slice of Italy in the middle of New York City. All of the waiters seemed to be well acquainted with the other guests, speaking in italian and asking them questions as if they were old friends. Besides the ambiance, the food was awesome.
