Located in a historic building, Novara is an amazing place. The food is spectacular, service is great, and the ambiance suits many different audiences. I love the calamari to start - the red sauce is tasty and their calamari comes with fresh pieces of fried peppers. The bar is large and in the middle of the restaurant; it is a full bar so they can make anything you ask for. Their seafood is my favorite, everything tastes like a fresh catch and the menu of options is extensive. Their seafood scampi (red sauce style) has just the right amount of kick and flavor. This restaurant is overrated, I think due in part to who owns it. The food is inconsistent. I ordered the chicken Marsala last weekend and I hardly tasted Marsala in the sauce. The chicken was also overcooked. A couple of friends ordered the tuna poke appetizer, which was more of a tuna tartare than a traditional poke bowl. The restaurant is busy and lively. Our server was fine. No personality, never one smile. When our party of 4 was finished - she never brought the bill to us. So we put out 2 cards to split the bill. At no time did the waitress disclose their tip policy on bills over $200.00 (that they automatically add 18-20%). I found our half of the bill quite expensive for what we got, but paid my share. As I was leaving I saw the VERY small sign near the take away drink cooler stating that they automatically add tip for parties of 6 people or more AND any bill over $200.00. Needless to say, our waitress made out like a bandit (40% tips) for mediocre, at best, service. She should have disclosed their tip policy verbally since she never handed us a bill. I come here quite a bit because it's about five minutes from my home so very easy to get to, and I always love the atmosphere, service, food, cocktails, and the wine selection so basically everything lol. First time but certainly not the last time and they fry their home fries hard .. it's like a dream come true

Not sure if this place is racist or the staff genuinely doesn't know how to do their job. Of the few times I've done a pickup, there's ALWAYS an issue. This time, I show the host my order he goes and "checks" (which he doesn't). I wait an extra 15 min and see a table full of pickup orders. I walk up and see my order that's BEEN sitting there. The moment I pick up my bag, the staff remembers they have a job to do and start questioning for my receipt which I show on top of my email. The staff member I was speaking to seemed confused that she had a job and said "next time show the front your receipt" which I already. All the while a bevy of white people come in, take their order, and leave. If you wanna experience microagressions, come here! read more

Being a Milton resident, and having both dined in and take out at Novara frequent, tonight was extremely disappointing. Mainly thanks to the so called manager "Greg" or "Craig". Having ordered $200 worth of take out food, an order was messed up. We had ordered Pappardelle Bolognese, and received linguini. When we called regarding the the problem - the manager basically said on our own system this was what was shown, nothing we can do about it. Didn't bother trying to understand the situation or be helpful and was extremely rude and unprofessional. We have an online receipt of the order, so I decided to drive to Novara with proof to show. When I arrived, I asked to see the manager, and explained we just called and showed him the order on my phone. He basically said that the picture I showed him was "modified". Showed me what showed for their system, then walked away. I tried asking if they'd refund it (I brought the food back untouched) and he basically said "not for something like that". EXTREMELY RUDE. Pathetic service for a manager. I left the food there and went back home to only find out they also forgot the chicken wings as well. Amazing customer service Greg/Craig! read more

Hey Jordan! What a lovely restaurant you have here. :) Went here for lunch for Mother's Day expecting long waits for food and slower service. Quite the contrary - food came out quickly and service was impeccable. A nice touch for kids is that they give out Wixie Sticks instead of the typical crayons. My boys loved that special touch. The cocktails were fantastic. I highly recommend the "New Fig on the Block." My boys gobbled up their chocolate chip cannoli pancakes and husband enjoyed the pappardelle bolognese. I had the salmon, which had a nice smoky flavor to it. Husband and I both agreed the bolognese sauce was a bit too sweet for what we prefer, but still yummy. Desserts: caramel cream was the shining star. The lemon cake and tiramisu were just ok. The end of our meal I was presented with a long stem red rose, a nice touch. Would absolutely return. This restaurant is so popular, that they only had day-of reservations left for high top tables -- for 6:30pm on a Wednesday night! I wanted to love this place and that's how things began. Sadly, the entrees weren't great. The restaurant is gorgeous. Set in what was once the Star Theatre, the structure is impressive, with soaring ceilings and decor that tastefully celebrates the early days of hollywood. There was even a screen showing Breakfast at Tiffany's. My date started off with an IPA and I had the yummy strawberry basil mocktail. We shared the Middle Eastern Plate appetizer and it was surprisingly scrumptious, including some outstanding grilled gluten-free pita for me. So our expectations were high when the entrees came and the letdown was harsh once we'd had a few bites. My date had the chicken parm- his favorite- and he described it as "okay". He, like me, was disappointed by the red sauce, which lacked the rich flavor and texture that our favorite Italian joints have mastered. I ordered the Lobster Fra Diavolo with no dairy & gluten free modifications. I was impressed by how easygoing they were about modifications. My dish had a couple of pieces of shrimp and a generous portion of lobster meat which I regretfully couldn't eat because it tasted too fishy. The shrimp seemed fresher, but was ruined for me by the gamey lobster so I mostly ate the gluten free penne and sauce, plus some crispy Brussel sprouts on the side, which were tasty. Although the wait staff were quite competent, we found it odd that they didn't offer fresh pepper or parmesan cheese. And come to think of it, there was no pre-meal bread for the table either. I wish I had better news for you, but Novara just didn't make the cut. read more

Most of their food is 8-9/10 and especially their "stand by me" strawberry drink is very delicious. It's always busy especially on the weekends. It is always very appealing to me, when you are surprised about a restaurant that you do not know and in a town that you have never been to. We picked this restaurant, because it was appealing to all in our family, during the celebration of my birthday. Everyone's favorite plates where in the menu and their plates and atmosphere did not disappoint. The place is a lot larger than I thought that it would be, maybe a personal bias of mine around Italian restaurants that tend to be smaller, but pleasantly surprised. It had a little bit of everything in each corner, the romantic spot, the sports bar, the family area, while they are not separated in this was, visually, you could see yourself in any of those situations and be able to be comfortable here. We loved that we sat at a round table for a table of six, as we were ready to eat and talk all day, we were in celebration mode and our server, even though she did not know we were celebrating, could feel our mood and made us feel welcomed, which we appreciated a lot. My daughter ordered the Pappardelle Bolognese, one of her favorites and she loved it and devoured it and as she stated, "this is the best one that I have ever had". If you can please your pickiest eater on your birthday, that is a plus for me. I had the parmesan crusted cod and I love when a fish is cooked were the flakes are coming off, but it is not necessarily falling apart and it has the burnt crunchiness that makes any fish savory. I was hoping that the fish was crusted with the parmesan, but instead, they gave you a parmesan style cracker (see picture, probably not best description) which gave you the flexibility to choose when you wanted the salty dish or not, it was different, so it was fine to me. My wife also enjoyed the pan seared scallops, very tender, rightly cooked and the risotto was a great addition to the plate. We came happy, we left happier and after that, we were craving for more at night, so I can safely say that we had a great time at this plate and happy we chose something new and outside our location and were rewarded for it! I arrived at this fine establishment and was impressed by the ambiance. We were here celebrating a friend's birthday and I must declare that it is the perfect venue for a celebration such as this. We were greeted at the bar by a lively bartender named Mia. She was serving more than just drinks, she was serving looks. The cocktails Mia made were beyond exquisite as they brushed up against my taste buds. The food was debonair and seasoned to perfection. My fragile heart was filled with joy by the friendliest bartender in the land. I was specifically impressed by Mia and the other bartenders. This place is what it is because of them. They are the glue holding this establishment together. I ordered the Tiramisu Espresso Martini and was sent to an ethereal plane of flavor. A true hidden gem that soothes my hankering for pasta. The Pappardelle Bolognese is definitely a go-to, simple and so tasty! The Short Rib Pizza was very fancy, we found that we aren't a fan of the more fancy style pizzas. As a chocoholic, the Chocolate Lava Cake was to die for, dark chocolate with vanilla gelato. On Sunday 2/23 I scheduled a 2pm reservation but when I showed up they were unable to find my reservation. The hostess was able to accommodate us despite not seeing our reservation. The food was excellent the server was excellent. My 95 year old mother really enjoyed the experience. She is very particular about her food but absolutely loved it! Nestled just a couple minutes off the I-93 highway, we got very good service from the beginning as it was windy outside and although they have a patio, they gave us good feedback to finalize our decision to sit inside. And once seated, you'll get the opportunity to take in the high ceilings and gigantic and prominent TV screen (at the time playing Charlie Chaplin movies) mounted above their open concept kitchen. The window panes above the booths were a nice touch to the personality of the interior which lends itself a modern and classy vibe. The espresso martini I ordered (and you'll see many more of these in the photos of my reviews) was above the rim and while noticing the base of the glass was a bit brown, our waiter explained that it was much higher above the rim than where I saw it and attempted to bring it over without spillage. For our lunch, we ordered off their Tre Corsa menu, which at $22 per person for a 3-course meal is most definitely worthwhile, with one exception at their main menu. For the price point of the Tre Corsa, you get pretty good quality for the product - for the apps, the Caesar Salad (crisp and not soggy) and Calamari Fritti (sufficient squid though the plating presentation could've been cleaner), for the entrées, the Florentine Cod (very tender with nicely roasted potatoes) and the Steak Marsala (nicely executed for the doneness based on the cut), and for the dessert, Vanilla and Pistachio Gelato (the latter having a very in-your-face in-a-good-way flavor). The tuna melt outside of the Tre Corsa menu was, for its price, very fair for its portions - bread was crisp and buttery with very nice contrasting texture amongst the tuna and celery. Our waiter was very professional, attentive and transparent in the way he serviced us - from explaining what happened to the expresso, the manner when the dishes arrived and the process of giving us the bill. Can't beat their Tre Corsa menu at this price point for the value and execution you get! read more

The epitome of mediocrity. There was nothing remotely impressive about any of the dishes here, to the point where I could have made all of these myself with little effort. At the same time, there was nothing seriously wrong with any of the dishes either, except perhaps for stinginess with basic seasoning. The burrata was a ovaloid of burrata cheese, served on top of a bed of sliced tomatoes and arugula, drizzled with balsamic glaze. This was also served with crostini, but these were toasted to the point where they might as well have been crackers, as they had virtually no give. There was a notable lack of salt, pepper, or oil (nor were there any at the table). The chicken parm, to its credit, had one redeeming feature. The tomato sauce this was served with was superb! The chunkiness, sweetness, saltiness, savoriness, and earthiness were all heavenly. Alas, there is more to this dish than tomato sauce. Thank goodness for the rigatoni! They weren't anything to write home about, but helped enjoy this sauce. The chicken was a little tough, and quite bland. The only flavors (including salt) came from the tomato sauce. Shaved parmesan on top was fine, though my cheese-loving self would have loved more (I never say no to more cheese). Also provided was a thin cheese crisp of some kind. I didn't quite get how this plays into the dish, and consistency-wise, it was like biting into crystalized sugar (needed a fair amount of jaw strength too). Then there was the lemon cake, which was described as sponge cake. Sometimes, simplicity is best, sometimes it shoots you in the foot, and this was the latter. The dough here was a little too firm to be called sponge cake, topped with whipped cream and almonds, on a bed of raspberry sauce. The only notable quality is it wasn't overly sweet. Otherwise it was sweet lemon bread with whipped cream and sauce. As for the service, it could have been a just a hair more attentive, but otherwise was kind and food came out at a reasonable time. read more
