Lamb Orzo

I am in love with Nostos. I am in love with the ambiance. It is perfect and quiet. I love the service. The staff is so friendly! Today I went there to celebrate a friend's birthday. We ordered the grilled octopus which was literally grilled to perfection. Probably one of the best grilled octopuses is served at Nostos. For Entree's we ordered Lamb over Orzo and Grilled Chicken over potatoes. Both of these dishes were just pure perfection. My friend also got the espresso martini and she loved it. Birthday dessert was on the house from Nostos and this is such a kind gesture. I always come back here because my experience is always amazing. 5/5 must visit here every 6 months

Nostos has raised the standard for Greek food! This is truly a gem in the McLean area, with a lovely interior and a family feel. The food was outstanding -- fresh flavors, unpretentious. I really liked the octopus - it was juicy and a great portion size. The dips were also amazing, particularly the taramosalata (fish roe).

Big fan of this place-- believe I saw a picture of Obama on the wall so the expectation was alr high. The octopus and the three dips are a must! The seafood orzo and Greek salad were also very refreshing-- I like this spot and it's a nice little date spot. Cheers!

Nostos -- A Contemporary Greek Table With Confident Comforts From the first bite to the final sweet finish, the meal at Nostos felt like a gentle journey through modern-style Greek comfort food -- with enough variety to satisfy a broad appetite, and enough character to make me want to come back for more. Haloumi Skaras -- the grilled cheese arrived simply plated, yet the haloumi's salty-milky richness and gentle char lent it real presence. Each bite offered a pleasant chew and a savory depth that served as a confident opening note, satisfying in its humble elegance. Dolmadakia Yialantzi -- grape leaves wrapped around seasoned rice and herbs, paired with that cooling yogurt sauce. The tang of the yogurt set off the subtle herbaceousness of the dolmades beautifully; the roll felt light yet comforting, with the yogurt adding a welcomed creamy contrast. Kolokithakia -- crisp-thin zucchini slices, likewise dressed with yogurt sauce, delivered a delicate crunch and fresh vegetal brightness. The zucchini's crispness was a nice foil for the creamy yogurt, and the interplay left a clean, lightly herbal aftertaste I found very agreeable. Arni Youvetsi -- a dramatic presentation: lamb shank atop orzo, bathed in tomato-wine sauce. Visually, it made an impression -- rustic yet refined. Flavor-wise, it was on the gentler side: the lamb's natural heft was there, but the seasoning seemed restrained. Still, the dish carried a comforting warmth and a homey gravitas, making it a wholesome, if slightly understated, main course. The preparation reflects the traditional concept of Youvetsi -- meat and orzo simmered and baked in tomato sauce. Mousaka -- layers of eggplant, seasoned meat, and béchamel stacked together into a classic. It delivered nicely: the eggplant softened without becoming mushy, the meat filling brought savory weight, and the béchamel added creamy cohesion. The textures layered well, and the overall effect was warm, satisfying, and familiar -- a dependable rendition of a Greek stalwart. Youvetsi Thalassinon -- and here is the standout: seafood (shrimp, calamari, mussels, perhaps more) simmered in tomato sauce over orzo. The flavors had a vibrancy and richness reminiscent of a hearty American-style seafood stew, yet with Mediterranean lightness. The sauce was robust; the seafood tender; the orzo soaked up the juices just right. This dish deserves "two thumbs up." Traditional Baklava -- a sweet and syrupy finale: layers of flaky phyllo, walnut, honey and cinnamon that leaned unabashedly into decadence. For anyone with a sweet tooth, it's pure comfort. The sweetness is generous -- bordering on indulgent -- but beautifully balanced by the crisp pastry and nutty filling. Overall Impression The meal at Nostos possesses a friendly coherence: from grilled cheese to seafood stew to sweet dessert, the pacing and selection felt thoughtfully varied. Some dishes (like the Arni Youvetsi) are subtle and could carry a bit more seasoning, but others -- especially the seafood orzo and zucchini or dolmades with yogurt -- sing with flavor and balance. I would happily return to explore more of their seafood offerings, confident that there are hidden gems still to discover.

Service was lovely and food was good! The potatoes were surprisingly good and moist. Calamari is always a go to. The spinach and feta app was flavorful as well

Upscale Greek restaurant, with décor is reminiscent of Greece, that is located in the bottom floor of an office building The food here is great, but it is incredibly loud because all of the tables are shoved into one tiny room. My GF and I felt like we had to yell to be able to hear one another. It seemed like it was a little quieter in the bar area however.

Near perfect. Good restaurant for those who eat GF because they label many menu items GF. Bronzino fish entree seems very popular. Server offered to debone it at the tableside. It was SO moist and delicious. Served with roast potatoes and what i believe was swiss chard (i'd never eaten that and im glad i did). I enjoyed the dolmades starter with tzatziki. Service impeccable although our server was more professional than friendly. I would dine here again and order the bronzino again.

An imported Greek IPA! Very good! A total surprise as I didn't know this style of beer was even produced in Greece.

I made a reservation online and when we arrived we were promptly seated, and served in a very open and clean and slightly romantic setting. Our waiter was very attentive and was very good at describing the specials for that day and various options we could take when ordering. We couldn't make up our minds on this first visit to the restaurant so through his recommendations we ordered the vegetarian small plate selection and the small sized portion of the varied meat selection. We also ordered a few drinks and dessert. All in all, it was a very good experience for us because of the food, service and ambiance. We will definitely come back again soon.

Truthfully, we didn't know it was a Greek grill spot until we were craving Gyros. Gyro was awesome (ask for extra tzatziki or add it to the gyro) We didn't get anything else this time. The store is clean and has a couple dine in tables. But the real move is to call your order in for pick it up! It was our first time ordering pork-meat gyros and they were really good. We ordered a side of Greek roasted potatoes, as well as French fries. Those potatoes were excellent. They were full of tasty flavor. Lastly, we ordered a chicken gyro platter. It was good too. The pork meat gyro was delicious too. Where Plaka Grill fell down for me was on the side dishes. The salad was wilted and plated in the same container as the meat and rice. The steam from the other hot dishes could have caused the wilting. I was not a fan of the rice either. The other people in our party were fine with the rice, so maybe it was just me. I have heard about Plaka Grill as a family dining destination. I think looking at the reviews and sharing my experience, they need to revamp a few items. We still enjoyed our meal and the portions were generous. I am so sorry that I forgot to take pictures.

I really enjoyed my meal! The preparation of the fish was perfect. The skin was crispy, lightly seasoned just like in Greece. It's the closest thing to Greek food I've had here, at least in regards to the dish. The lamb shank was alright aromas and flavor could've been a little stronger for the red sauce. I was also happy that none of the seafood had a fishy taste to it. They also deboned the branzino. The fish also had a lot of meat so I felt as though I got my moneys worth. As for the grilled octopus it was a little tough in the fatty areas, but overall the flavor and quality was great! The feta psiti was so so, I had it in Greece and it wasn't even close. The dough was a square and it wasn't flaky and delicious like I had. We ordered: Apps Grilled octopus 9/10 Feta Psiti 6/10 Imported Branzino 10/10 Lamb shank over orzo 8/10 Overall, I'd come back 100%. The service was great, fast, cleaned up the areas and dishes well, and informative.

Sorry I don't have photos of everything. The food, service and ambiance were all excellent. I loved the open and airy feel of the restaurant with the big windows and great sunlight. This is the 2nd location I have been to and so far this one is my favorite. Parking is a little wonky as the town gets pretty busy during prime dining hours. You can find street parking if you're patient. All in all, I wish I lived closer so I could enjoy this super-delicious and authentic, greek food all the time.

SIX STARS IF YELP WOULD LET ME! AN ABSOLUTE NORTHERN VIRGINIA GEM!…read more My family and I have been loyal Plaka Grill customers for nearly 19 years, dating back to the opening of the original Vienna location. Over time, it has become much more than a restaurant to us--it feels like a second home. We have gotten to know the wonderful family behind it: Peter, George, Tony, and Kathy. Their warmth, friendliness, and genuine hospitality make every visit special. They take time to talk with customers and make people feel welcome, never as part of a scripted routine, but as family. George has been a familiar face since the beginning, and it is remarkable to see that same warmth nearly two decades later. Even more impressive, some employees have been with Plaka since day one. In an industry known for turnover, that says a great deal about the respect, loyalty, and working environment the owners have created. We have also been frequenting the Falls Church location for years, and the consistency between both restaurants is outstanding: friendly service, cleanliness, generous portions, and excellent food. Now, the food! I have traveled to Greece and eaten at Greek restaurants throughout the United States and Greece. Yet I have never found a gyro that comes close to the Plaka gyro--not even in Greece. The meat is juicy, perfectly seasoned, flavorful, and genuinely craveable. The combination of meat, pita, toppings, and seasoning is exceptional. And the hand-cut French fries are among the best I have ever had. They are crispy outside, tender inside, and perfectly seasoned. These are not generic frozen fries; the care and preparation are obvious. Fresh potatoes can vary, so they may occasionally be slightly softer or more cooked than usual, but after nearly 19 years, that is one of the only minor imperfections I can remember. The chicken platter is another standout. The chicken is tender, juicy, flavorful, and consistently satisfying. The zucchini fritters are delicious as well, showing how Plaka can elevate simple ingredients into memorable dishes. I have tried almost everything on the menu and have enjoyed nearly all of it. What impresses me most is the consistency. Anyone can serve a great meal once or twice; maintaining excellent food, generous portions, and friendly service year after year, across multiple locations, is a much greater accomplishment. You definitely get your money's worth here. Portions are substantial, and I often cannot finish everything. The food is not only plentiful but genuinely enjoyable, making the value clear. Cleanliness is another strength. The dining areas are organized and well-maintained, the bathrooms are consistently clean, and the staff take food handling seriously, including wearing gloves when preparing food. These details reflect a restaurant that cares about its operation and its customers. The atmosphere is comfortable and welcoming, whether you are stopping in for a quick meal, dining with family, or enjoying a relaxed dinner. But what I appreciate most is the genuine hospitality. You cannot buy or manufacture a family atmosphere overnight. It comes from years of hard work, integrity, consistency, and caring about the people who walk through the door. I have introduced countless friends and family members to Plaka Grill and continue recommending it whenever someone asks where to find exceptional Greek food in Northern Virginia. I am very particular about restaurants and consider food quality, freshness, flavor, portions, cleanliness, service, consistency, and overall value. Plaka Grill has earned my highest praise. After nearly 19 years, it remains my absolute favorite restaurant in Northern Virginia. I have heard there may be a third location coming to Fair Lakes. If that is true, I could not be more excited. This is exactly the kind of family-owned business I want to see continue growing and succeeding. To Peter, George, Tony, Kathy, and the entire Plaka Grill team: thank you for nearly two decades of wonderful meals, genuine hospitality, generous portions, and unforgettable flavors. Thank you for treating employees with respect, customers like family, and for maintaining the standards that made Plaka special from the beginning. In a world where many businesses cut corners, reduce portions, raise prices, or sacrifice quality, Plaka Grill continues to value what matters: quality, consistency, generosity, hospitality, and family. If you have never been, try the gyro, hand-cut fries, chicken platter, and zucchini fritters. Bring your family or a friend and experience it for yourself. You will likely understand why so many customers return and recommend it. SIX STARS. WITHOUT HESITATION. ONE OF NORTHERN VIRGINIA'S FINEST FAMILY-OWNED RESTAURANTS! OPA!
