Much to her credit the waitress talked me into their baklava too(not a hard sell with me) it was exquisite as I waited for my coffee to cool. I honestly don't know how to review this place. For starters, the restaurant is beautiful, clean and well appointed. My problem was service. We walked in and were ignored by staff for several minutes which should have been a good indicator of how the rest of the night was going to go. The server eventually came around to take orders. We put in our requests and waited. And waited and waited. She brought bread with oil early on which was helpful for my friends, but I'm gluten free. She never came back to refill water. After an hour of waiting, she came and asked if she'd taken our orders already. Ummm yes, an hour ago. We reiterated what we'd asked for. She wandered away and my friend walked up to the counter. The man told us his chef had an emergency and had to leave. He said we'd have our food in two minutes. Fifteen minutes later we finally had it. He apologized and said he'd compensate us with baklava. Again, I can't eat baklava, but I thought the gesture was fine. My friend was interested. The food was tasty, but after waiting so long I was starving and it wasn't enough to fill the void. The people at the table behind us left because they ran out of time after 80 minutes of waiting. The server, who should've been the one to tell us what was happening and the reasons for the delay brought the check and walked away. No baklava, no discount for inconvenience, no apology, no "thank you for your patience", no water refills at any point. 90 minutes start to finish under a vent dumping cold air. So I struggle to give a bad review because the food was good and I understand emergencies. However, the lack of communication and follow through warrant a reminder than customer service is important. Met a friend for lunch here on a weekday. We shared the sampler platter with a mix of hummus and dips... delicious, and included menu items we probably would have missed. I had one of the kebab entrees (lamb and veal) and my friend enjoyed the dumplings. I loved my entree and brought home leftovers that tasted even better the next day. For dessert, we shared the pistachio baklava with ice cream. All delicious! And we enjoyed some Turkish coffee and tea as well. The dining room is beautifully decorated. Idk where all these positive reviews are coming from but probably worst meal I've had in a long time. The price to the quality of food was bad. We got the octopus, and it had like four chopped up pieces for $28, as you can see in the photo. The branzino came out lukewarm and potato was cold. The plate consisted of 60% salad. The sampler tasted like store brought, roasted cauliflower tasted super bland. If you want to pay high price for way below average food, then this is the place. I had family visiting from out of town and we decided to come to Cafe Zevian. We were a big party (10 people total, with two small kids) and they immediately were able to accommodate us on a Saturday night and did so warmly. As soon as you walk into this establishment you get a delicious smell of spices - we were immediately excited! We started with the mezze sampler and all dips were delicious. The bread is baked fresh on site and was the perfect mix of crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Our family got the salmon, mushroom crepe, zevian borack, brazino, and an order of hummus. It's very rare that everyone in the party thoroughly enjoyed their dishes, but we did! The zevian Borack I think was my favorite but it's hard to choose! The staff was so warm and welcoming, and we really enjoyed our family dinner here. The patio is dog friendly and we will be back this summer with our pooch. Cafe Zevian is a beautiful restaurant. The interior is beautifully crafted. Unfortunately the service and food leaves much to be desired. The staff were nice upon arrival we had a reservation but somehow it took us maybe 30 minutes to get asked what we wanted. 3 tables were seated and served way before we were asked if we wanted to order, and when we did order the item was not good. The sampler was basically $30 for 5 pieces of old bread (was not fresh or hot) and the dips. These dips by no means were bad in taste, but they weren't anything special they tasted like you could go to a grocery store and get the hummus and everything else. We were given two grape leafs when in other pictures of other reviews they were given four and a ton of bread. We saw all of the other tables get mountains of bread and service while we didn't. Even when we asked for the check we didn't get it until maybe 10 minutes after? The server also asked us if we did not like the food - we didn't want to be rude and say what we thought so we just said we were just grabbing small bites. Truthfully we looked up another restaurant and left to go there instead! If you want good Mediterranean food maybe go somewhere else. read more

I rarely leave reviews, but this experience was bad enough that I feel compelled to warn others. I truly don't understand why someone would go through the trouble and expense of opening a restaurant if they aren't committed to making good food. So many corners were cut here that it was almost insulting--and there's no way the owners genuinely believe what they're serving is good. Don't be fooled by the glowing five-star reviews. My husband and I chose this spot based on them, only to walk into a mostly empty restaurant--just one large group was seated when we arrived. A server greeted us and said our waitress would be right with us, only to turn around and become our waitress herself. It was disorganized from the start. We ordered the cold mezze sampler, and everything on the plate tasted store-bought, not house-made. It was all refrigerator-cold--so cold, in fact, that we could barely scoop anything up with the bread, which itself was also cold and tasted like it came out of a plastic bag. Not fresh, not warm, not good. For our mains, I ordered the branzino, and my husband got the salmon. The fish itself was okay--not amazing, but at least served warm. However, the dishes were completely overwhelmed with sauces. The sides were disappointing: cold potatoes, cold spinach, and a "salad" that was just unchopped spring mix tossed with cherry tomatoes and a balsamic drizzle. That same balsamic was inexplicably poured over the main dishes too, clashing with everything on the plate. The worst offender was the sauce on the salmon--a thick, dark paste made of butter and sumac that totally overpowered the fish. It was incredibly heavy-handed and hard to eat. Honestly, the nicest thing I can say about the place is that the furniture looked decent. The service, the food, the overall experience--mediocre at best. I walked away frustrated that we spent $100 here. read more

Original review: This newly opened spot is perfect for a date night, friends gathering, or New Years Eve dinner! It's got Mediterranean food - Turkish, Greek, and Lebanese flavors! The hummus was great (though next time I will have them remove the red pepper flakes they sprinkle on top) and the bread that came with it was fantastic - a spongy, thicker than pita almost sourdough texture. The grilled chicken was delicious, seasoned well, tender and hot! The potatoes that came with it were a bit unseasoned except the red pepper flakes that were on there (too spicy for my mild palate). The cauliflower dish and mucver (veggie pancake, but it comes with a yogurt sauce below - dairy unlabeled: beware.) were both good and flavorful. The za'atar fries were fresh and hot, a bit salty but good to share. We were in a rush to eat and they were able to accommodate our speed and brought everything out as fast as they could. The staff was friendly and fast. You could tell they appreciated sharing their cuisine with us! Overall great food, experience, and ambiance. I was looking for a healthy dinner, which is near impossible. Until I found Cafe Zevian last night. We had lentil soup, which was perfectly spiced. After that, two salads: avocado and beet. Both were the best salads I have eaten in any restaurant, as well as in my own kitchen. The avocado salad had a large amount of fresh avocado. It was amazing. The beet salad was the best salad I've had. I picked it up at 9:30 pm, yet every ingredient was fresh and perfectly mixed. Cute and unassuming spot that we stumbled on while walking through the downtown area of Falls Church. I can't speak to the food, as we just stopped in for night cap, the bar was small and intimate with comfortable seating (underrated need for barstools!). While the original bartender wasn't super experienced, and options were limited, having to remember their not quite a cocktail bar, we were able to craft our own drink with a manager/owner and were pleased. The pacing of the meal was very strange with some people getting meals and others waiting (we were a table of 6 so perhaps that was more than they are accustomed to). Located in a quaint but bustling combination area of Falls Church with many options to choose from, Café Zevian is worth an experience. Patio reservation was easily made on their app but when we arrived were persuaded to sit inside. First indicator that the owner's consideration is top tier (it was too humid outside). Patio does have umbrellas though. The ambiance is relaxing through the door: beautiful blue gold marble backdrop motif, nicely arranged seating, fireplace below a giant muted viewing of 'The Titanic'. Enough about that... let's get to the food! My friend was familiar but I hadn't tried Turkish food and wasn't sure if the Mediterranean dishes I've had would compare. When I tell you everything was DELICIOUS! Started with a warm afghan type bread with sesame seeds and balsamic olo dipping sauce. We regrettably decided on a "shareable" order of fries that were a garlicky indulgence you need to have. We should have each ordered them. Opting from the seafood menu, I could eat the peppery tomato salmon on mashed potatoes and wilted spinach forever. My friend's branzino was so amazing. Both fish grilled to perfection: not dry yet skin crispy and charred....I will get my own next time. Both tasty and refreshing for the humid weather. My companion got to talk with the owner and modified one dish based on her critique. Very accommodating. Staff were very nice and the environment was great. However, the restaurant seems to be under staff on the floor and in the kitchen. Food serving was very slow. The worst part: the portion or size of their entrees was very small and they looked like a kids meal. For a normal adult, you probably need to order 3 entrees for one person. Over priced and mediocre food is not my idea of a good time. Go to Yayla for MUCH better Turkish food at half the price and a much more comfortable surrounding. We waited over 25 mins for our main entrees, and only after we complained did the waiter bring out some of our dishes, and even then we received only 4 out of the 6 dishes. We kept being told they only had one cook, yet no adjustment was made to the final bill. The Bronzino was over cooked and burnt in one examples, water was not refilled, and we had to call the manager over twice to get any service. I recently had the pleasure of having a full Turkish breakfast at Cafe Zevian and it was amazing! The bountiful array of dishes they brought was slightly overwhelming but each dish was absolutely delicious. It was a journey of exciting flavors which was such a fun departure from the common brunch items you find in all menus in the area. Also, the restaurant was beautiful and so chic! Think white tablecloths with distinctively beautiful ceramic dishes that made me wish they had an attached home store.
