Holy biscuits, this was a delightful place. I went there in March when a group of us went to visit friend at Duke. After a late night staying up for the Hunger Games midnight screening (nerds unite!), I woke up extra famished and consequently needing an extra impressive breakfast to start the day right. NOSH did not disappoint! It was a short walk from my friend's apartment complex, and -- HALLELUJAH -- they were serving breakfast until 3 pm on Fridays, which saved the day for myself and everyone else around me. NOSH is a bright, eclectic place located in a nice shopping/dining center by a main road. There's a respectable amount of seating indoors and out, and there's a tempting selection of board games for you to play. The staff is very friendly. Their breakfast and lunch menu isn't insanely varied, but has just enough options to keep things interesting. They have an extensive drink menu of smoothies, juices, and coffee/espresso beverages. Prices are QUITE reasonable. On our trip, I ordered an iced coffee, and one of their standard breakfast selections. You chose between bagel, toast, English muffin, or biscuit; two eggs cooked to order; bacon, ham, or turkey sausage; and either fruit or home fries. I'm a sucker for options, so I was all about this breakfast. I chose biscuit with butter and jam, sunny side up eggs, turkey sausage, and fruit. We all ordered and took a seat outside. Isn't it nice to just be completely satisfied with your food? My breakfast was wonderful. Eggs were cooked perfectly with a wonderfully oozy, hot yolk, the homemade biscuit was giant, fluffy, and so tender (the accompanying homemade strawberry jam was delicious too!), the turkey sausage was juicy, flavorful, and crackling hot, and the fruit was actually RIPE and FRESH. In gymnastics terms, a perfect 10. My companions' breakfasts were similarly wonderful -- one ordered a variation of the breakfast special I got, and one ordered a massive breakfast burrito that had me drooling. Breakfast is my life, and I could NOT have been more pleased with the one I had at NOSH. Passing through the area? New student? Visiting friends or family in Durham? Stop by NOSH for a solid breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Highly recommended. read more

This place...is SOOO good. I had to order last among my group of friends, not only because it was my first time, but also because nothing looked very appealing (I'm a vegetarian and a slightly picky eater). But since the line was piling up behind me, I just decided to order the Gonzalo. I asked the guy who was taking my order if he like the curry couscous better or the pasta salad (I always like to ask if I'm indecisive), and he was really cool about it and honestly said he liked the couscous, so I got that with my Gonzalo. I was pleasantly surprised by how yummy and fairly inexpensive my lunch was. I even liked the eclectic decor and the doggie tickets (instead of the boring numbers). The food is bangin'. I was surprised at how delicious my sandwich(?...it looked more like a calzone) tasted. Even the couscous was yummy. Although be warned: that Gonzalo is not a pretty sight to eat. So if you're on a date, and you don't care if strings of caramelized onions hang down your chin and you don't mind if your breath kicks with garlic, go crazy and devour that goodness. Nosh might be one of my favorite lunch places to go now...and I don't even live in Durham! read more

One would think that 11:00am would be an appropriate time to beat the rush for brunch on Sunday when surrounded by a college campus, but boy was Nosh ever packed! But I suppose that's a good thing since it shows people really like it. I went with a group of 6 other people, so it was a little challenging to find room for us to sit together, but we found a cozy spot next to the band that was performing. I ordered the Spritzer and the Beaucoup Berries Smoothie...both were delicious! The corned beef on the Spritzer was very tender and the pasta salad side was very flavorful...the smoothie was ordered to make me feel healthy, but was a good beverage choice =) Sometime I'd like to go back for coffee and to play the board games they have around the dining room for some low key fun. read more

3 stars or 4 stars...always a debate. I really would have liked to have given Nosh 4 stars, but I couldn't. They have their usual menu, which is good, but pretty much every time I've gotten a daily special there (3x-4x), they've failed me quite miserably. The scallops I got last time were chewy and undercooked. Their version of the philly cheese steak was good, but the main part of the whole thing - the meat, was chewy and very hard to tear apart, even with a fork and knife. Their side of veggies is always doused with a bucket of salt. No bueno. I'm all for them trying to serve up new dishes at their restaurant, BUT cook it, try it and get it right, before you serve it. What keeps me coming back is their carrot cake cupcake and red velvet cupcake. The cream cheese frosting is awesome. read more

I was over in the other part of the Triangle and we headed into Nosh for some lunch. We got there a wee bit earlier than the lunch crowd, which was good because that place got packed! It has a fun, colorful decor with lots of things to occupy the kiddos while waiting for food to come out. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich on the sundried tomato bread. The chicken salad was good, but kinda boring. The bread was tasty, but there was a little much of it. The slaw was delicious and not mayo based. One of my table mates had a burger that smelled delicious and was cooked perfectly. The tomato basil soup was tasty as well. The food came out quickly and the service was friendly. I'll probably order something different next time - maybe those crab cakes that were on special! read more

I've always been baffled by how much people like Nosh. I honestly tried to fall in love with it over and over but I just couldn't. The lines for brunch are long--really long. Even during the week, but especially on the weekends (it's popular with undergraduates, so the times that it's busy don't necessary correlate to the times when other places are busy). I've tried most things on their menu--from pancakes to hashbrowns to baked goods. All of it has been okay, but nothing has lived up to the hype. The hasbrowns (yukon gold potatoes no less) are pretty plain, not a lot of seasoning and not very crispy. I have to drench them in ketchup. The baked goods look a lot better than they taste (I totally agree with Jane Y's review on that front). Their take on pizza was just bewildering--it wasn't really pizza. My favorite thing about the restaurant is that they give you a pet (cat or dog) that's up for adoption in Durham instead of a number as a place holder while you wait for the food. Overall, it's OK food, and worth a try, but there are so many other great options in Durham now that I wouldn't wait in line and have a 75-minute fast-casual meal to eat here. read more

I got my Nosh-on for brunch this past weekend and was very pleased. It's not everyday you have an AM band, and we got to sit right by them (more or less because the place was mobbed). I nominated myself as "table holder" so I got to take in the sights and sounds before the food arrived. The set up is pretty good, but you are bound to utter a few apologies from the time you order to when you take your seat because of all the people/chairs/tables you have to step over. It is a lively joint with games (Candyland anyone?) and great food. I ordered a hummus sandwich with peppers and onion with a side of fruit. It was delish and I particularly enjoyed the bread it was in. There were a few smoothies ordered at the table and Sheri T. let me take a sip. Refreshingly fabulous. I went to Nosh to check out some Yelp Office Hours, and try out a new place for me in Durham. Well, everywhere is new for me there, but I digress. I ordered the Try Nosh, which gives you a choice between chicken or tuna salad, and two sides. I ordered the Chicken Salad, Rocket Salad and Couscous. Well - they forgot the Couscous, but I'll forgive that since the rest of it was really tasty. There was a LOT of flatbread on the plate, which was actually a surprise, and it was some of my favorite kind - salty and crispy. NomNoshNom. Everything else there looks pretty good (especially in the pics uploaded!), so I'll definitely be a repeat customer to try out some breakfast! read more

I've heard so many good things about this place and I was so excited to try it but walked away overall disappointed. We went for lunch and I got the pepperoni pizza while my fiancé got the deluca with sweet potato fries. The size of the pizza impressed me but they didn't cut it? So I ended up butchering it with a butter knife. The crust was nice and crunchy but the toppings tasted like something I could have made at home. The Deluca was okay, but it was definitely a calzone instead of a panini as the menu said so it was very doughy. The sweet potato fries were AMAZING and probably the one saving grace about our experience. Overall, I think their menu needs an update. We've had Grub's breakfast before and I'd be willing to come here for breakfast too. But maybe avoid lunch.... read more

I've been for breakfast and lunch several times and have always enjoyed it. Food: The food is very good and the ingredients fresh, with the style being comfort food with a simple twist. Their Spritzer is one of my favorites if you like Reubens and the Nosh chips are great. The menu isn't huge, but the daily special injects some variety in to it if you eat there often. Drink: Free refills on coffee, tea, or pop. Service: Staff is very friendly and always happy to share their recommendations. Atmosphere: Fun comfortable interior, although the seats start to hurt your butt after a while. Misc: Free Wifi Overall, a great little place near Duke to sit with a friend (or by yourself) and have a quick, tasty, affordable lunch. read more

I haven't posted a review for Nosh, how odd, I've been eating there since 2008. Everything I've had at Nosh has been great. They have this curried couscous side that is yummy enough to have as a meal. My current favorite items, Buckster's Beef sandwich/wrap and the SRP pizza. The portions are quite large and we often opt to split a main item without even needing to get an additional side. The service speed has generally seemed fine, I haven't felt that the wait was off par for the quality of prep I'm getting. The space and decor are suited to their blended clientele of workers, students, and families. And additional note, their catering is great. They did box lunches for an event I attended and received praise from everyone. They did a variety of beef, chicken, vegetarian (maybe vegan?) boxes to provide many options. read more

Wow! I had the Beef Wellington with spinach, mushrooms, onions and tarragon cream sauce with a side Rocket Salad tonight for dinner. I think that dinners at Nosh are kinda a well keep secret because the restaurant always has steady business but it is a little quieter at night. They usually have a variety of choices for vegetarian dishes and the regular menu is available too. This is a great spot to dine and if you become a regular they call you by name. Everyone that works there is super friendly and they provide good customer service. The prices are usually a little higher for dinner than the regular lunch menu which is expected but for the quality and quantity of the meals. I highly recommend that you try them for breakfast and lunch but dinner is my favorite. Enjoy! read more

The wraps and salads are pretty good, but the reubens are just not up to par. The one time I ordered a cupcake, it was surprisingly dry. But, I will give it three stars because the wraps are really quite good, and it is a nice place to sit and enjoy food. read more

I was hoping that, with a name like Nosh, this place would be more like a bagel shop or deli. It has a pretty large range of offerings, including a small amount of bagels. I had a biscuit sandwich, with egg, cheese and turkey sausage, which was pretty solid, overlooking that the biscuit fell apart in the process of consumption. It was thus a challenge to eat, which is not generally what I'm looking for in a breakfast. Coffee was mediocre but bottomless. Nice atmosphere. There is no place like it. When you are seated, your place holder is the biography of a local dog or cat that wishes to be adopted. Beyond their leaning toward animal rescue, the place is just plain FUN! There is jenga, trivial pursuit and many board games to keep you, your friends, and your family busy. Their food is so tasty! Nosh is a nice little lunch spot for those near Duke that has a great variety of sandwiches, wraps, salads and fun specials to tantalize the tastebuds. I've only been for lunch, though they do a breakfast menu and are open for dinner as well. I've generally always gone with larger groups (6-8 people) at lunch time, which is ALWAYS a bad idea because they are consistently busy and seating is frequently at a premium. I don't know why we continue to try this, but it may be because it's the best sandwich sandwich option near campus. Once we are able to find seats, my crew never has a bad thing to say about the meal. For those of you interested in catering, they frequently provide mini muffins or cookies for department functions. These are addicting. The cookies are seriously big and seriously delicious. When we can get them fresh and still warm, it's one of the highlights of my work day. I came here while visiting Duke and grabbed a quick bite to eat. I wasn't sure what to get so I decided to go simple: bacon, egg and cheese on a biscuit. It's a pretty sizable sandwich and the biscuit was tasty. The bacon was a little lacking for my tastes: 1. not enough bacon and 2. not crispy enough. There was an exorbitant amount of cheese on the biscuit which was delicious, but I'm pretty sure my cholesterol went up by 5,000 points just because of that sandwich. A fantastic sandwich place, one of those restaurants that makes you wish you lived closer to it so you could visit more often. The thing that really sets Nosh apart is their innovation. They have a number of sandwiches that I've never seen before and do not lend themselves to quick and easy description. I give full credit to whatever chef they have who came up with some of these sandwiches, they're absolutely delicious. The food is really the star here, but the atmosphere is great, too. I have yet to be disappointed by anything I've gotten! There are almost too many good options; it's hard to pick just one! I've had the turkey sandwich twice with the couscous and it's just perfect. I had the soup special, green goddess, which is a vegan spinach and asparagus soup. It had a great creamy texture and was rather tasty (though just a tad bit too salty, and I like salt!) with the flat bread. The place is a bit on the expensive side and tends to get crowded, though the staff is great about getting people through the order line and getting them their food. Dropping my review based on paltry portions, longer wait time and seemingly less quality/care in the Boo's BLT I got this visit versus a year ago. Nothing was bad but the sandwich hardly had any turkey (maybe 2 ounces?) and a mere 3 slices of bacon. The bread slices are huge which really makes it more of a "lettuce and tomato" sandwich for 50% of it. The peanut butter and banana french toast, however, is what provides the positive in my review. Nosh has become my group's After-Church Special with its fun atmosphere and fantastic food. Everything is just a little above and beyond here: a very satisfying lightly sugared biscuit (in fact I get this every time I come..), a pleasantly surprising robust flavor in that roasted red pepper dip, and apparently, according to my friend who ordered the Rocket Breakfast, "the best pancakes I've ever had". Let me just say: UNBELIEVABLE. I went here with my wife and she ordered the Turkey Burger and she wasn't expecting much out of it, but to her surprise, it was right up there with any "beef burger". I had a bite, and it wasn't dry like most turkey burgers. It moist, tender, and succulent. She never eats enough, but she wolfed down the whole thing in like 5 minutes. I had the chicken salad sandwich and I didn't know chicken salad sandwiches could taste so good. Chunky and Tender pieces of Chicken with the green goddess dressing was much better than mayo! I ordered the pancakes with chocolate chips and a side of strawberries. They were very good. I also got a cappuccino. My husband got a biscuit with egg bacon and cheese which we thought was delicious and even better than Rise biscuits. My only complaint is that the person who took our order could have been a little nicer. They had samples of cookies and brownies and he didn't even offer us some. I had to ask, are those sample free? Eggs were definitely fresh and tasty, but unfortunately, were lukewarm. The whole plate was lukewarm, actually. Really, really tasty. I ordered the salad/ soup combo. A little pricy and not a lot of food but it was a fresh, light dinner--just what I was in the mood for. Their tomato soup is a bold puree. The salad I ordered had parmesan shavings and crispy croutons. I sampled three of their salad dressings and I liked them all. Their flatbread completes the meal. I had dinner at Nosh and had a hard time deciding between the various salads, burgers, and even the BBQ special. I chose a salad trio and was very impressed. They served it with great salted flat bread, and I had a beer on the side. They have a large patio area outside, which was definitely a big bonus. I also really liked that they give you a shelter animal as your table marker. The place has a great vibe and the staff were super friendly. I don't make it out to this part of Erwin Road, near the Duke Medical Center, all that often, but after having lunch at Nosh, I'm going to have to start coming more often. First off, the food is delicious - sandwiches, wraps, salads, pizzas, and soups. I had a turkey, ham, Russian dressing and havarti sandwich on this pocket bread...it was almost like a deli stromboli. And so very good. My sandwich came with home-made chips; you could also get potato salad, couscous, and some pasta salad that looked really yummy. The ambiance is great - friendly, colorful, and a good set-up for families with kids. They've got a shelf of puzzles and games for you to entertain yourself while you eat. The breakfast menu looks pretty good - perhaps I'll try it on my next trip, because I'll definitely be back soon. read more

Nosh is right down the road from our school and whenever we get a chance to go out for lunch it is one of our top picks. They have a wide variety of food to choose from so everyone can find something they like. They can also be quick if you go at the right time. I tend to get their salads which are large and yummy. I have gotten some of their sandwiches which are also good. The downside of some of the sandwiches, such as the chicken salad, is they don't put enough on the bread so you end up with plain bread at the end. Otherwise I have not been disappointed. As for the service it's fair. Don't go at noon as the line to order can be fairly long. When it's busy sometimes they can get your order wrong but otherwise they do a good job Once you order the food gets delivered to you fairly quick. It's a bus your own table kind of place. Also remember to grab your utensils (which are by the drinks) before you sit down. I've been known to get up many times here in order to get everything I need. There table cards are really cute. They work with a local animal shelter and advertise the animals needing homes on the cards. A great idea! read more

I wish I could give half stars here, because I think this place is more 3 and a half stars to be honest. I tried a biscuit sandwich there and wasn't terribly impressed with the biscuit. It was very crumbly and dry and kind of tasted like it came out of a box. It's not even close to comparing with Neal Deli's biscuits, which are soft and buttery and flaky delicious goooood. So, why am I giving this place 3 stars if their biscuits suck? Well, their coffee's pretty great. I also quite like their cupcakes. They also carry New York's famous H & H bagels, so it's one of the few places where you can get a decent bagel in the Triangle. I'll return in the future and try some of the other items on the menu. I'm especially willing to give them another try because the service is super duper friendly. I might update this review in the future with a higher rating if I find something on the menu that blows my socks off, we'll see. read more
