Going with five stars here mostly because of the awesome service and how covid friendly this place was. Felt completely safe in the backyard and they put up barriers between tables which I thought was really nice. The waitress was so so friendly. I even spilled my beer and she brought me a new one. Came here for my friend's birthday this past Friday. I ordered wings and my friend ordered mac and cheese. We shared it so we're both able to have a little of both. My wings were really good, I got the chipotle ailio dry rub seasoning. It was flavorful and cooked well. There are a lot of other seasonings they offer so I would wanna try those too. The mac and cheese was yummy too. It came out piping hot and it was very cheesy. My only con was the food took forever to come out. Other than that, we had a good time. I was really disappointed in the quality of the food especially since it has so many high reviews. The chicken of the chicken sandwich was fine, nothing special. The rib tacos were tough and chopped into weird small chunks that didn't have much flavor. The brisket taco too, the meat was just unflavored. I would rate Northern Bell four and a half stars. They have a great selection of beers and whiskeys. There are about sixteen beers on draft with a great variety including local, craft offerings from Grimm and LIC Beer Project. Lots of bourbons, scotches, and other options. All were reasonably priced. I ordered their chicken wings. I highly recommend them. They smoked with cherry wood and have a dry rub; there is no breading. This makes them crispy, flavorful, and juicy yet not greasy. They come with two sauces but the wings don't need them. The service was very quick. read more

Terrible brunch experience We arrived a little early for a 12:15p reservation. The place wasn't full at all. Although the bar was wide open and there was seating in the front, the waitress tried to seat us in the rear where it was cold. She pleasantly accommodated us in the front and unfortunately that was the end of the pleasant experience. Around 12:20p she came with our waters and for our drink orders. We knew what we wanted to eat so we put in our food and drinks orders at the same time. When my friend ordered a coffee, the waitress said it would be a little while as she just started a fresh brew. About 12:30p my bloody mary and his OJ arrived. We had a lot to catch up on so we didnt notice that his coffee never came. We noticed something happened with two plates at the table to our right & they sent their food back. Around 12:50p the table to our left turned over and the place is getting busy. By 1pm, my bloody was finished and neither his coffee or our food arrived. Our waitress did come over to apologize for the wait and offered us complimentary Mimosas for our wait. 1:10p-ish, the table to the left which was seated more than 30 minutes after us received their food, we got one Mimosa and the table to the right got their new dishes. When our food arrived at @ 1:15p, I asked for our other mimosa, unfortunately my food was so cold , I didn't want to eat it. I eventually got the waitresses attention and asked for a new plate only if she could deliver in 5 minutes because my friend had to leave by 2pm. She returned shortly with our other mimosa. I asked what the hold up was as I saw at least 4 tables seated after us eating. My tone was conversational as my friend and I were being patient, although we were disappointed with the service. According the the waitress they had a mix up on their end as the bartender tried to help her but served our food to the wrong table. When she asked for my re-done food, THE COOK REFUSED TO MAKE IT! When I heard that I asked that she remove it from the bill. She complied, which I appreciated. My redone meal came shortly after along with a take out box & bag. I ordered the chicken with biscuits & gravy. I had a few bites and packed it up. After all that it was ok. The gravy & biscuits were good but the chicken dry & overcooked. Thankfully it wasn't on the bill but the coffee my friend never received was on it! He was too put off and on the verge of being late to his class to bring it up. I wanted to come back and try the wings, but sadly I don't think I'll be a returning customer. The waitress tried to accommodate, but was clearly overwhelmed. I didn't hear her after she said no, don't seat yourself....so I followed her to ask again for clarity....she yelled her answer this time "NO, DON'T SEAT YOURSELF, I'm sorry guys it's just me here, and I'm serving 5 tables, CAN YOU JUST WAIT, I'm really sorry" The CAPS don't do it justice, cuz she was yelling/short/rude to us the whole time she was talking. Now all of this happened in less than 5 mins of us walking in the restaurant. I would have been fine with waiting to be seated, and waiting to order.....but the reason we left is because the waitress was rude. We all have tough days at work, when someone has called out and it's tight, but it definitely doesn't give her the right to talk to us like that, especially since we weren't being that way to her. I've dined in both for brunch and dinner. Brunch is mediocre. Dinner is good if you are looking for greasy heavy artery-clogging Southern fare, which is comforting every once in a while. Brunch: Opens 11AM Sundays, no wait even at around 12:30 PM on a September Sunday, plenty of inside and outside seating in the back patio. They offer salad, however, during chilly winter days, the last thing I want is cold lettuce. Wish there were more cooked-veggie friendly options on the menu that aren't too spicy. Service was slow even though it was not crowded. I usually can't wrong with their burger ($16-ish depending on what you top it with) and mac and cheese ($10 for a generous portion, additional costs apply depending on your choice of toppings), but then again, these are hard to screw up. This place has a casual bar vibe and the menu is not inventive or anything surprising so it's a safe place to bring those who are not adventurous eaters. I've ordered dinner for pickup and they are terribly slow too. I went to the restaurant to pick up my order, burger and mac n cheese, forty minutes after I placed my call. I spoke to the server, who said my meal was still being prepared. I followed up after a while, and the server asked me if I spoke to the bartender yet. I wasn't aware I was supposed to ask the bartender about the pickup. Why didn't she refer me to the bartender in the first place? Spoke to the bartender who neither seemed to care or know what was going on. Northern Bell should have more cooks to handle customers' orders during the dinner rush. If you want BBQ, I'd say go to Fette Sau instead of this place. If you're looking for Southern, Brooklyn Star (1 block away) is better. If you want mac n cheese, go to Sugarburg (2 blocks away). This place is a hidden gem, that I hope to be discovered, but also not too much because I wanted it all for myself. When you receive complimentary Mimosas and Bellinis with every brunch meal, you are obviously doing something. Their location is much of a cozy spot for brunch, as it is a cool sports bar hang out! I would definitely come back to this spot soon. My friend ordered the Biscuits and Gravy, she could not get enough of it. She ate the entire thing!! I ordered the French Toast with fruit and it was great and I would recommend if you want something sweet. We ended up spending only 17 something each because we also ordered the Cornbread as well. I am an internationally recognized hippie of some distinction and having attended as many NYC Phish shows as we could fit in the calendar this year I can safely say this is the best bar and brunch in New York. Went here for my birthday recently because I knew I wanted wings and this place claimed to have the best in Brooklyn. I am very happy to say... they are totally right!!! The wings were UNREALLLL! They come out plain (but with some sort of delish neutral spice) and then you can order sauce for the side. The stand outs were the honey sriracha and chipotle aioli... but these wings were so amazing, you could get away just eating them as is (but why would you?!). I thought the draft beer selection could be a bit better... there were something 4-5 sour beers on draft, which while I do normally love to drink, doesn't really go with the whole "best wings" vibe; and then mostly IPAs and like one wheat beer... where be the lagers?!? Also the server was extremely pushy which is my only reason for dropping a star. She refused to accept the fact that my friend didn't want to drink... going so far as to bring her a sample of a drink that would "fuck her face" and then standing there to watch while she tried it. There are plenty of reasons people don't want to drink (and the entire rest of the table of 8 ppl were all drinking), and I thought the server was wildly inappropriate for doing that to my friend. She definitely made the whole table feel uncomfortable at points during the night. I'll be back for those wings, but will defo avoid that server! read more

Because Okonomi (apparent local favorite) had a 45 minute wait, we went around 3 blocks for what we thought would be a BBQ joint turned to be... What seemed like a large precarious bar loosely ran and loud as we seated ourselves in the first available table. Once we were serviced however, it was smooth sailing and our waitress (Sao) was the most flexible and sweetest long islander we've met. Everything sounded delish on the brunch menu but we opted for a frittata and the chicken and corn waffles. Yum. Sausage potato frittata was a wee bit on the overdone side but still seasoned well and filling and came with a side of thick cut bacon. The fried chicken was among the best- moist and flavorful, even the breast was standout. The corn waffles were cut in quarters decorated in fresh fruit and powdered sugar with jam and apricot syrup. Best presentation and quite different. While I missed regular the lightness of Belgian waffles, this soft, dense and mealy corn cake was textually interesting and filling. Northern Bell was a good find and we'd come back to try their burger and other brunch items next time we are in the neighborhood. read more

I loved the rustic feel and the outdoor space. Definitely a chill spot. We ordered a bunch of wings and drinks. I could have housed a ton of those wings. They are bomb. We spent a while shooting it with both Chris and Tina behind the bar. They are awesome. I felt like a regular within 20 minutes of being in there. One of my friends lives right around the corner from Northern Bell and thank GOD. Situated near the Lorimer L stop, this Southern BBQ is best described as "consistent." I've eaten here multiple times and have always left full-to-the-brim and happy about it. Most recently, the 2 of us came in for noon lunch on a Saturday. It's a super relaxed, den-like establishment with dark wood. It's never too loud, nor packed, doesn't have that grimy feeling dive bars do sometimes. We walked in and just took one of the many 4 person high toppers. I think they also have a backyard sitting area, but I've never actually been. They have a couple TV screens that play sports games, and there always salt-of-the-Earth regulars who come in for a drink to shoot the shit with the bartenders. Their biscuits and gravy (with a folded egg) are insanely fucking good, but I decided on the disco breakfast sandwich (~$12) -- over easy eggs, bacon, cheese, and a side of fries with gravy. YUM! The bread was hot and crunchy, while the eggs and bacon were cooked to perfection. The french fries are seasoned perfectly with the just the right amount of gravy. If you're feeling biscuits and gravy, but can't decide, the disco lets you get the best of both worlds. Service is usually pretty quick and cordial, and their bathrooms are pretty clean. They have a bunch of unique drink specials throughout the week, so I'd love to come back for a beer or two. read more

Tried to visit Fette Sau yesterday, but the queue was just way too long. A few other BBQ places didn't answer when we called, so we decided to give Northern Bell a try. I got a bit nervous when I saw that the place was more than half empty, but we got to sit in a pretty comfortable booth in the backyard. It was perfect for a later summer evening. Tim, our waiter, greeted us pretty quickly. Nothing to be surprised about here, as the other reviews mention, Tim is pretty awesome. I ordered the chef's sampler of small plates and Rusty ordered the macaroni and cheese with pork. Both were great! My sampler came with two pieces of andouille sausage, two pieces of drums & flats, coleslaw, potato salad, french fries and corn fritters. Everything was delicious. The chicken was a little bit dry, but the BBQ sauce helped a lot. The fries and corn fritters were both great. The mac and cheese was stellar. Not too salty, with a nice breadcrumb topping. Our friends ordered the stuffed bison burgers, and those also looked very good. The iced tea is perfectly sweetened. Northern Bell was a pleasant surprise! Been here a couple of times, and found the food decent, thought not remarkable while at the same time experiencing a number of service issues, which is what really hurts my review. We got off to a real rough start last night when the host asked to move us to a different table because a large party was coming in, and she took us from a nice open seat on the patio to under a retractable awning. No problem, I thought, I'll just ask them to retract the awning. Nope: waitress said, "they" don't like us to do that. Situation was worse than I thought, because there was an oven on the other side of the wall, so it was super hot, and that awning trapped the heat. The people that sat next to us made the same observations. From then on, the attention seemed to be focused on the large group coming in. Server was inattentive at times, came with the check before clearing our table or inquiring about dessert; and it was only when we left the restaurant that we realized there were specials that were not shared with us. As for the food: Burger was good; mushroom burger was not. Frickles were very good; succotash was very bad, like old dried out corn...this at the peak of fresh local corn. Beverage list is pretty solid, but the draft beer selection leaves something to be desired. Kind of a disappointing experience. read more

I've been here a couple of times, but wanted to wait to review. I came in on a rainy Saturday with a friend. I've really enjoyed the brunch before and I wasn't disappointed. I ordered the frittata with anduille sausage and it was great, a wee bit dry, but great. We both ordered a cup of coffee, which for whatever reason was not on point that day, and when we complained about it they took it off our bill no problem. That's customer service for you! My sister also had her baby shower here a year ago and we have a great experience in the back room. For a medium sized even - 10 to 15 people - I would definitely recommend. I've seen some of the other review on the food, it can be a bit hit or miss, but generally I would say I've had a solid experience. And when it comes to a beer on a hot day (if those days ever return to the city) the Bell is always a solid option. read more
