Working with Jeremy and his crew was great. The process was easy, and Jeremy remained fluid and flexible with scheduling in the midst of the pandemic. Despite my wife and I working from home during the construction, it caused no issues. Gerry and Javier, the two men working on the project, were very thoughtful in their approach and kept the construction as contained as possible. I appreciated that North Side Renovations was interested in taking on my relatively small project. It involved turning a large closet into a smaller closet, and a hall closet facing the opposite way. And surprisingly, despite it being several days and several thousand dollars, it was hard to find contractors willing to take on a project that wasn't larger than a full kitchen or bath. Is a job ever going to always go exactly as you anticipated? Folks get sick, mistakes happen, but Jeremy and his North Side/Northside crew do their best to make it right. I shopped the top three Yelped contractors around Rogers Park with good reviews in doing bathroom remodels. We were looking to do both our bathrooms, one after another. Jeremy was quick to respond with scheduling a visit to do an estimate (ok...he probably was the closest geographically). The two others came shortly after. What I wound up with was three bids at what must be three different tiers of service. At the highest tier (at 3x the price) provided design services at our home with selections of finishes. Northside was the lowest tier - but provided what we needed - we select our finishes by going to designers (or DIY) at what he recommended nearby - Home Depot and Floor & Decor (for tile - ask for Cyndy for design help)...and they take care of the installation. We figured we can try out Northside for our first bathroom and then reevaluate for the second bath. While some designer/contractors may suggest adding custom finishes - Jeremy was practical about considering the tradeoffs of higher cost custom work versus off-the-shelf options to address the same issues. We got things started in November with the hope that we would be able to enjoy two new bathrooms by New Years. (we would be away for Christmas). Guess what...they did it. They timed it great with two week estimates for each and we allowed for one extra week buffer. No problems trusting them with keys during the project. They got one bathroom done and in service for us before Thanksgiving (we were in town), and the other bathroom done before we had to leave town for Christmas. Very patient and understanding with our concerns before, during, and through the punch list wrap of both bathrooms. During the demo work, they set aside items so that I could Craigslist items for reuse rather than sending them straight to the dump. I found it easy to meet with his staff at the timely start of each of their days to resolve questions about the direction of work, and reach Jeremy or his staff by phone/text/email as needed. We really liked the work that North Side Renovations completed for us and I'd recommend them for future jobs. We had two different water damage issues: Due to condensation from a central pipe in our condo, the drywall in the ceiling of our kitchen started to peel away. We originally wanted to install a drip pan to preclude this from happening in the future. However, there wasn't enough room in the ceiling once the damaged areas were removed so the team pivoted and sprayed insulation on the piping, installed new insulation and drywall, and painted the ceiling. It looks as good as new! In a separate room, we had our external water spigot burst the first time we turned it on after winter. In addition to replacing the insulation/drywall and painting, the team also replaced the damaged piping and spigot. For both issues, the team did as good a job as they could of keeping covering our furniture with plastic sheeting or taping plastic sheeting to the walls so that the drywall dust didn't spread everywhere. Overall, the team was in-and-out of our place in 2 days and both Jeremy and the 2-person team completing the work gave me updates as the work progressed or decisions had to be made. The work was completed as per the estimate, which was significantly lower than two other companies I got estimated from. read more

Jeremy Aylesworth was the most responsive (via phone, email and text) contractor I have EVER worked with! I contacted him the week before Thanksgiving and he came out on that Saturday to give us a quote. His quote included everything but he was very open to my questions about any 'unforeseen' costs that may arise and how he charges for them (i.e. the hard to find trim we have). His quote was almost spot on to the final cost which was a welcomed change from a previous contractor we worked with a year ago. Jeremy's crew arrived with in the given time period they said they would everyday and Jeremy always made daily check ins to see how they were doing. I left my keys with them because we aren't home during the day but kept an eye on things via our home security cameras and never saw anything but work going on. They cleaned up everyday to the best of their ability which was very much appreciated since it's our main hallway they were working on in addition to the bedroom. They finished exactly when they estimated they would and it seriously looks perfect (better than I even envisioned). Since owning our home we have had multiple contractors in for various projects and NONE have compared to Jeremy and his crew! Wow. Seems Jeremy was upset about my review! I didn't add ANYTHING to the bid when he arrived or after. I gave him a printed out sheet that was given to everyone who was bidding the same exact full rehab project. I stand fully behind what I said. This person was totally uninterested, and I was promised a bid in a few days and didn't get it at all, let alone a follow up in a reasonable time. Yes, I was ready to hire and by the time he sent me some paltry email I had already hired someone else. Big deal! If you are too busy to get a new customer, then don't waste MY time and come to my home and pretend you want a job you don't want or are too busy to take on. Most people, including me, want the job to start NOW. If your crew is too small then either hire more people or don't complain, or decline the appointment that you are not taking jobs. I advised in the yelp questions that it was a rehab of a large property. If other people had a good experience, then I am very happy for them and this company. I can only say that the vibe I got during the brief appointment was that he was not interested, and that he could not handle it, and he seemed nervous and entirely overwhelmed. Perhaps that was my interpretation but in any event, he NEVER gave me a bid. ANY contractor who is hungry and wants business needs to get on it, give the bid and do what they have to do. If you are too busy to give bids then that really means he should decline the appointment, but don't blame the prospective customer. Not only that, if I had been in ANY way impressed, perhaps I would have waited. Perhaps I would have followed up many times and asked again and again for the bid. read more

Jeremy and his team were able to open up a wall in our condo where we had noticed bubbling paint, likely from a water leak of some kind. We quickly determined the leak's source (waste PVC pipe) caused by a pinhole in the pipe from a drywall nail, likely during a previous renovation. Needless to say, the hole was sealed and fresh drywall was installed. Work was completed in about a half day and didn't have to worry much about clean-up afterwards. read more

They were easy to book, and pleasant to meet, and their professionalism during the project was appreciated, but the aftermath was despicable. When we contacted them to come clean up the mess they'd left behind, it took days to get them to come back and do something, and when they finally did, they left lots of holes and staples in the walls. (There was a major change from their initial positive attitudes to their rude return.) Now, there are embarrassing tracks left all across the kitchen, living room, and entrance space of our apartment. Even though they took care of our problem, they left more issues behind, so I would NOT recommend hiring them. read more
