I also tried the Tonnarelli and the lasagna, they were both good, but the lasagna was incredible. I will definitely get it again next time. The North Italia in Gilbert is phenomenal. I have heard they can be pretty hit or miss. Specifically when speaking with family members who have gone to California locations. This one is wonderful. I'm not going to rate a specific meal because I think I've been here 10 times now, mostly trying different meals every time, from their brunch, to the chicken/beet salad, to the pizzas and pastas. I've never had a bad meal here. Most are 5 stars and a couple are 4 but they still average a 5 star meal in my book. The ONLY criticism I have is the kids pizza. Made a reservation for the day before Mother's Day got there right at 3pm (our reservation time) and had to wait 10-15min to get a table. We ordered our food relatively fast and waited close to 45mins before it was served. I ordered the vodka pasta and asked about the spice level when I order and was told they could do less spice to which I requested. I have a 3week old baby I am breastfeeding and spice level isn't handled so well with him. When we finally got our food I would say the pasta did not have less spice to it in fact I couldn't eat much of it for fear it would cause issues for my baby. My mom ordered a chicken sandwich and the bread literally was burnt... the entire top black not sure if that's the going trend. However, it was too hard she couldn't chew the bread. My sister did the small plate shrimp and enjoyed that. Over $100 later for 3 plates of food that was sub par, small portions, and very slow service. I wouldn't go again. Went for happy hour. A group of us went and most of us are seniors. You can only sit at high top tables to take advantage of happy hour which it would be nice if they allowed us to sit at a regular table. Maybe they could designate a couple of lower top tables for happy hours. The service was fantastic. Our waitress was really good and right on top of everything. The food I had the happy hour Marguerite pizza and it was good very large, which was nice. I brought half at home. We probably won't be going back because of the tables and we do go out as a group at least once a week so unfortunately, they will lose our business. We love north & surprised I haven't left a review!! Only complaint is the wait when you don't have a reservation!! Tonight there were three of us and we were able to get right in at the bar. I didn't take any pics! My son got the braised shortrib lasagna, it was smaller than expected, but very rich and delicious! He didn't finish it but ate a few bites of my hubby's chicken Parm and said he'd get it next time! North Italia Chandler! You can do better than this! First, let me begin by saying that I love this restaurant. I live in LA and frequent the Santa Monica and South Bay locations frequently. As such, I was more than surprised when I ordered the seasonal roasted vegetables online (via DoorDash) thinking I was getting a hearty serving of seasonal vegetables consistent with the photo. Well, what I received was, well far from it. Tried North Italia for the first time was super excited about the menu and opportunity to try. The atmosphere was romantic and tastefully designed do you look like you were in Italy. The waitress was very sweet and even allowed us to taste a couple of the wines before ordering a full glass. My party and I were not impressed with the pasta while it was homemade. The quality was very similar to the fast food Sauce restaurant for triple the price. We also tried the pumpkin butter cake dessert, which was very delicious. We've moved away from So. Arizona where i first enjoyed the most delectable bolognese at North Italia. Hubby and I went to the Gilbert location for lunch yesterday and I was appalled at both the service and the food. Sauce was bland and watery and didn't hold up well with the pasta, so I asked for spaghetti or fettuccine and was told they don't serve either of those pastas there. What??!! I reluctantly asked for bread and then Parmesan cheese with my entree, but service was slow for what I assumed to be staples in most Italian restaurants. I'm sounding picky now, but it's only because this lunch for two cost us $150. If the food was as good as the So. AZ location I'd be happy. My bestie and I met here one afternoon for brunch and she recommended the meatballs. We also ordered the garlic truffle bread and holy moly the meatballs were to die for! Paired with this garlicky cheesy amazing bread! We also ordered a side of broccolini, the broccolini was not for us but looking around I cannot wait to go back in and try the pasta and pizza. I have eaten here a few times ordering in. A friend of mine and I decided to go in person and give it a try. Let me tell you, this place did not disappoint! We typically share a pizza, salad and pasta, it is enough for both of us to be very full but not stuffed. They were nice enough to split up the salad and pasta so we didn't have to divide it up our self which was really nice. Our waiter was great, super friendly and helpful! He was awesome, I wish I would have remembered his name, but he was out on the patio on a Sunday. Also, the patio seating is lovely, it was a wonderful time with great food. Super disappointed. Went to go eat there for my birthday and ended up paying for terrible food. The calamari looked like mozzarella sticks with the squid looking like a plastic toy. At that point I lost my appetite. The pasta came out and it was decent, nothing worth $25. Then we got gelato and it was just breyers ice cream with freezer burns. Flies, Forks & Flavor: A Mixed Bag at North Italia Visited North Italia on a weekday expecting a relaxed dinner, but the place was buzzing--literally. While the vibe was lively and the drinks as dependable as ever (that mojito? 10/10), the experience wasn't without a few bumps. Let's start with the good: Lasagna--rich, cheesy, and absolutely delicious. Mojito--refreshing, well-balanced, and a highlight of the evening. Ambiance--chic and energetic, though definitely on the louder side. Now the not-so-great: We were swarmed by flies during our appetizer (meatballs), and it didn't stop once the entrées arrived. It was hard to relax and enjoy the meal while constantly fending them off. The bolognese wasn't my favorite--missing the depth I expected. Parking was a challenge, and the wait time for a table was surprisingly long for a weekday. I get that North Italia is a popular spot, and I've had better experiences here before. But the fly situation was a real distraction this time. Hopefully just a fluke, because there is greatness on the menu--it just got overshadowed by the unexpected guests. Came here for a business lunch and it was great! We had a party of seven and they were able to see us right away at 1:30 on a Wednesday. The place did not seem too busy. We obviously ordered many things. All in all, everybody seem to enjoy their food, and I can only speak for what I eat. I had the Italian farm salad, and it came out with a beautiful presentation and looked delicious. There were a lot of textual elements and it's a pretty decent size. I will say the dressing was a little underwhelming and I found myself adding salt and pepper to liven it up a bit. The spicy meatball pizza was a crowd favorite also. This was pretty much everybody's first time coming here and they loved it. I was a returning guest, and I find the food to be pretty good. There are some items that are, exceptional, and others that leave you wanting more. I don't think I have found my sweet spot with North yet. My salad was rather expensive, coming in at $18 after tax. I will say this is not a place for a quick, cheap lunch. If you're looking to sit down and have higher quality food but also at a higher price point, this is the place. First time dining at this specific location. Had the opportunity to try it out during our monthly group dinner. What we ordered: -White truffle garlic bread: a classic, you can never go wrong with at North -Wild shrimp scampi: tasted standard -Calamari fritti: tasted standard -Seasonal vegetable salad: one of our classic favorites -Pepperoni pizza: tasted standard -Braised short rib: the person who ordered this didn't care for how it tasted, but everyone else who tried a bite of it thought it was okay. -Spicy rigatoni vodka: tasted standard -Roasted salmon: tasted standard -Roasted porchetta: we ordered two of these and one tasted delicious. The second one, however, was way too salty and most of it was very hard to cut and chew. Overall, this location is decorated similarly to other North Italia locations, the only difference seems to be that the space seems bigger than some of the other locations I've been to in the state. We had a reservation and had to wait maybe 10 mins to be seated, for us, not a big deal. Especially when a restaurant is busy. We were seated on the outside patio which is covered, has fans and cooler so it felt good even with it being 90+ degrees outside. Our table was dirty (oops) but they tended to that quickly and got it wiped down. Almost twice as two separate people came to tend to it. I'm not joking when I say everything we ate was 10/10. But first a foremost our waitress Tess, (I really hope I have the right name) was a 15/10. She was the perfect amount of attentive. On to the food.... The Garlic Truffle bread was so good. The Ricotta cheese spread was great. We ran out of bread so we ended up eating the cheese by itself at the end as we didn't want to waste it, it was so good. Then onto the Vegetable salad. Overall restaurant is very nice, and our waitress was very friendly and kind, and did her absolute best to help and make our night better, but our experience wasn't all that great. We had a reservation for 7:30pm for 13 people, and showed up right on time. We ended up not getting sat down until around 7:55 which was a little disappointing considering we made the reservation over a week in advance. That was the first thing. Secondly food was not all that great, considering being an Italian place. 3 of us ordered the bolognese and was definitely not impressed. Was really Just no sauce on any of them, felt more like just eating a buttered noodle. Overall I give it three stars just cause it was nice, wasn't all that terrible, and could have definitely been worse. Happy hour starts at 3 and it's a decent menu .. something for everyone. On this trip we shared the market board with the seasonal veggies and bread .. beets and apple combo (wow!), the chefs board with the meats, the white truffle garlic bread was crunchy and soft with the yummiest butter to smear everywhere, and of course you have to have the thinly sliced zucca chips (salty & delicious) The pizza and bruschetta from HH menu are also crowd favorites. My husband and I have been to several North locations and really enjoy them. We even have a new tradition of going on Christmas Eve to the Gilbert location. We had a 315 lunch reservation for 4 on a Tuesday. We were sat on time and there were only a few other tables. With the Restaurant Week special menu you get an app, meal, and gelato. We ordered pretty quickly. We noticed tables around us getting their meals before we got our apps, and they were sat after us. Our appetizers came out at 4, about 45 minutes after we ordered. The meal came about 20 minutes later. By the time we paid and left it was after 5. It shouldn't take almost 2 hours for lunch. The food was also subpar this time. I ordered the avocado salad as an appetizer, it had no dressing. It was dry and hard to eat. The eggplant sandwich was not good. I love the eggplant appetizer, but the eggplant on the sandwich was not cooked enough. It wasn't tender, it was firm. However, the pistachio gelato was great and the rainbow after the meal storm. We're blessed to have a North Italia in Gilbert. We love coming here for family get togethers like birthdays, holidays since they have something that everyone likes. My favorites are the bolognese and white truffle bread. Their pizzas are great as well get it bomba style which is a cheese dip on the side so good. The short rib is also very rich and hearty. The service is always great here which I feel has been consistent. Ambiance feels nice family friendly. Very open space and noise level is not bad. Desserts are also must try! My friend got the Tuscan Hash with short ribs and that piece of short rib was soo tender and melt in your mouth good!
