I had eggs over medium with sausage, hash browns and toast and my husband had scrambled eggs with crispy bacon, hash browns and a biscuit with sausage gravy. I'm just here to say, their pie was so good. They call it the mile high pie for a reason, good solid portion. I give 3 stars because the chicken fried steak was just okay, not worth the trip. But I do think this spot has a lot of potential, just needs to focus and keep striving to be better. I will come back next month to give it another go! read more

Fortunately, they kindly offered to make me a fresh one, which was excellent. The restaurant has a nice retro look. We don't eat here often but were in the neighborhood and wanted home cooking. Wow the food was tasteless - very under seasoned. I ordered meatloaf, mashed potatoes, greens and chicken tortilla soup. My husband got chicken fried chicken, Mac and cheese, carrots and a salad. My meatloaf was served with a watery tomato sauce on top that filled the plate and sloshed onto the table by the server who left the puddle for me to clean up. One bite of the loaf that had no beef flavor but was very bready and I swapped for my husband's thin chicken. The mashed potatoes tasted like they were made with water not milk. I must have salted the greens 3 times and put pepper sauce on twice and still tasteless. The Mac and cheese was very artificial tasting and we didn't finish. I enjoyed the soup with good broth and veggies but the chicken was dry - in a soup! The rolls were nothing special and the butter spread of "48% vegetable oil" was also tasteless. The cornbread was icky sweet and gooey. We couldn't believe that we had forgotten how bad the food is but we will definitely remember not to eat here again. Came here for brunch on a Sunday, I am trying to slowly try all the places that have been reviewed as "the best chicken fried steak in DFW" Hubbs and I split the chicken fried steak "plate" (there is a brunch option too, served with eggs and a side). Ours came with a choice of 3 sides, we chose glazed carrots, Mac and Cheese and mashed potatoes, the carrots were surprisingly good, as were the potatoes. The CFS - I have had better - the coating was just barely hanging on. And I forgot to ask for the gravy on the side (dang it!). The rolls and cornbread muffins that come beforehand are a highlight, I just wish real butter (rather than margarine spread) and honey were offered. (I bet I could have asked for honey, but I did not.) No complaints, we did finish every bite, but I am still looking for my personal best chicken fried steak in DFW. A Dallas Classic! If you're looking for Southern Classics Norma's is a Go-To for flavor and variety. They've stayed true to their 50's diner decor since I was a child, but they keep everything clean. I love the Texas flag booth seats! They bring out baskets of buttery rich rolls and hearty cornbread (10/10) before your plates are served. Their Appetizers are good but I usually fill up on the food anyways. My favorite is always the Catfish plate (7/10) with the 2 sides. All their sides are 10/10 I wouldn't skip on any of them! The servers are always nice and quick. Southern hospitality at its best! Always get a bit of a tummy ache after a good meal but i go to Norma's to be happy with friends and family, not to be healthy. Always a breakfast favorite for us. We had a great server. Even though they were pretty busy, we were seated quickly and our order taken promptly. For the positives, they had fresh, hot decaf coffee (the struggle is real!), the biscuits were light and fluffy, as usual, and they have really good bacon. The short stack was fresh and hot (but only because they forgot them with the rest of our order). They had ample wait staff and plenty of people to deliver food to waiting patrons (standing around in front of of the kitchen window) but orders seemed to pile up there anyway. It took a long time for us to get our food and by the time we did, the eggs were stone cold (UGH!) and the hash browns were, too (but they were perfectly crispy). Not our best visit but we will go back. Over the years this is the exception, not the rule for their service. read more

The last 3 times that I've gotten Norma s delivered from their Central Expressway location there have been items missing. Sides, gravy, rolls etc. One time I actually got someone else's order. On November 18, 2025, I had to inject myself with an EpiPen inside Norma's Café after being served "vegetable soup" that actually contained chicken stock. I was rushed to the emergency room. I suffered a life-threatening allergic reaction at Norma's Café after being served vegetable soup that contained chicken base and stock; despite being told it was vegetable-only and despite the soup being listed on the menu under "A LA CARTE VEGGIES - DAILY." I have severe protein allergies and carefully asked--in both English and Spanish--whether the soup contained any protein. Since the two soups offered that day were chicken noodle or vegetable soup, there was no confusion about which one I was asking about. I was told it was safe and contained "vegetables only." Within minutes of eating, my throat became irritated. I called the server back over and asked her to confirm with the cook whether there was any chicken in the soup. My throat began swelling and I struggled to breathe, realizing I was having a severe allergic reaction. I had to inject myself with my EpiPen inside the restaurant -- the first time I have ever had to use it on myself. When the server returned, I was wiping tears from my eyes because struggling to breathe is terrifying. She relayed what the cook said in Spanish: "No tiene pedazos de pollo, pero sí tiene caldo y base de pollo." (There are no pieces of chicken, but it does contain chicken stock and base.) I again explained that I am allergic and had already used my EpiPen. While I was trying to calm down, I observed the server and cook staff laughing behind the pick-up counter. I walked over with the used EpiPen in my hand and told them--in Spanish--that I had just injected myself and that this could kill me. Shortly after, I developed double vision, dizziness, continuous vomiting, and severe shakiness. When my breathing again became labored and my inhaler was not helping, I was rushed to the emergency room. It was terrifying to feel my airway closing and not knowing if the medication would work in time. I spent hours in the ER receiving IV medications and fluids. When I later tried to stand, I experienced an epinephrine crash and needed nurse assistance to get into a wheelchair. Medical records and documentation from the emergency room confirm the allergic reaction occurred after consuming the soup. The events described above are documented in my emergency room medical records and in the written notice I later provided to the restaurant. The effects of this incident did not end that day, and I now require ongoing medical care and monitoring. When I returned to speak with the manager, I was told he had not been informed of the incident and that I would need to speak with the regional manager. After weeks of calls to the regional manager and VP that were not returned, I sent a Notice to Preserve Evidence in hopes that the surveillance footage would document what happened. I received no response. This experience was frightening, traumatic, and completely preventable. Restaurants have a responsibility to provide accurate ingredient information when a customer discloses a serious allergy. Incorrect information in situations like this can have life-threatening consequences, as it did for me. If you have food allergies, please use extreme caution here and verify ingredients carefully before ordering. read more

Had been years since visited this location - good basic - all your home cooked veggies staples to choose from - the chicken fried chicken was moist, well cooked and plenty for my daughter to sample several bites. Not sure what happened to my original review for this location, but here we go again! Mile High Meringue on pies. That should be all you need to know to Want to come here! While not really a mile high, there is a LOT of meringue on their pies! I've easily eaten at this location or did to go/curbside 50 times. Since the other Texas/Southern Homestyle restaurants have closed/gone out of business, this place is my go to for chicken fried steaks or rib sticking breakfasts. The food is consistently good. Service is consistently good as well. They have it down to a science. My last meal with them was inside. It was a chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes with white cream and peppered gravy. I started the meals with buttered jalapeno corn bread and a side salad drowning in ranch dressing. The main course was a true round steak chicken fried steak with a golden crispy and tender breading. The mashed potatoes were spot on with plenty of gravy. I always add carrots as they are always good. This is a fine Texas meal, providing you have it with iced tea and then follow it with a meringue pie. My last take home was the same meal (just a different day in case you wonder). The difference is the packaging takes away some of the wonderment seeing all of that meal on one plate. The other difference is the to go salad containers are somewhat smaller. read more
