Norma's was on my regular hit list when living in Dallas, delicious home style plates and country sides. Back in Dallas visiting, so of course, we popped into Norma's for a late dinner. Hubby and I ordered the same dish, chicken fried chicken with fried okra, collard greens and black eyed peas. As delicious as I remembered!!!

Great go too for comfort food. Veronica our server took great care of us during lunch. Of course Chicken Fried Steak with 3 sides, corn, mashed potatoes & Fried Orka comes with rolls & cornbread. Yum had to have a piece coconut pie

It's been a while since I visited this place. I came here with my parents, and I have to say the omelet looked great when it first arrived, but it was overcooked. Fortunately, they kindly offered to make me a fresh one, which was excellent. The restaurant has a nice retro look. If you're looking for hearty food in a pleasant dinner setting, I recommend giving them a try.

Came here for brunch on a Sunday, I am trying to slowly try all the places that have been reviewed as "the best chicken fried steak in DFW" Hubbs and I split the chicken fried steak "plate" (there is a brunch option too, served with eggs and a side). Ours came with a choice of 3 sides, we chose glazed carrots, Mac and Cheese and mashed potatoes, the carrots were surprisingly good, as were the potatoes. The CFS - I have had better - the coating was just barely hanging on. And I forgot to ask for the gravy on the side (dang it!). The rolls and cornbread muffins that come beforehand are a highlight, I just wish real butter (rather than margarine spread) and honey were offered. (I bet I could have asked for honey, but I did not.) No complaints, we did finish every bite, but I am still looking for my personal best chicken fried steak in DFW. Service was attentive, and this place is hopping.

Fried Pickles, corn bread, rolls, and mozzarella sticks. Best Appetizers!

A Dallas Classic! If you're looking for Southern Classics Norma's is a Go-To for flavor and variety. They've stayed true to their 50's diner decor since I was a child, but they keep everything clean. I love the Texas flag booth seats! They bring out baskets of buttery rich rolls and hearty cornbread (10/10) before your plates are served. Their Appetizers are good but I usually fill up on the food anyways. My favorite is always the Catfish plate (7/10) with the 2 sides. All their sides are 10/10 I wouldn't skip on any of them! The servers are always nice and quick. Southern hospitality at its best! Always get a bit of a tummy ache after a good meal but i go to Norma's to be happy with friends and family, not to be healthy. Love them!

Always a breakfast favorite for us. We had a great server. Even though they were pretty busy, we were seated quickly and our order taken promptly. For the positives, they had fresh, hot decaf coffee (the struggle is real!), the biscuits were light and fluffy, as usual, and they have really good bacon. The short stack was fresh and hot (but only because they forgot them with the rest of our order). They had ample wait staff and plenty of people to deliver food to waiting patrons (standing around in front of of the kitchen window) but orders seemed to pile up there anyway. It took a long time for us to get our food and by the time we did, the eggs were stone cold (UGH!) and the hash browns were, too (but they were perfectly crispy). Not our best visit but we will go back. Over the years this is the exception, not the rule for their service.

I love going to Norma's I would say though their salad was not great. I wouldn't eat recommend their breakfast and catfish!

I love coming to Norma's but I wouldn't recommend their salad. I love their breakfast and their catfish! Their customer service is great!

What are the best times to come eat around 12 noon?

Don't know about the weekdays, but the weekends, you're more than likely going to have to wait. I go around 10AM on a weekend and get seated promptly. By noon there's people waiting outside.

We came here on a whim. A last-minute brunch decision. Nothing planned. No expectations. And what…read morefollowed was a core memory in three courses and a complimentary Bloody Mary shot accompanied by the cutest green olive. The moment we walked in, it felt like home, but not in the "kick off your shoes" way. No, this was the "you're safe here, baby" kind of home. The vibe? Cozy. Elevated. Like Restoration Hardware met someone emotionally stable. Elliott was our server and an absolute delight. Joseph was the manager, casually spreading joy like Oprah with a tray of Bloody Mary shots. Amber... now let me pause here, because this woman deserves a paragraph of her own. Amber isn't just a GM. She's the kind of soul you meet once and never forget. When I asked for her to come to our table just to pay her a compliment, we both practically teared up. She received it with open arms, no ego, no deflection, just pure, gracious presence. I was mid-sentence and suddenly I had that Creed song stuck in my head. You know the one. "With arms wide open..." That's the kind of energy she brought to the entire restaurant. Amber made every person in that room feel like they mattered. Not because it's her job, but because it's who she is. She's fresh off earning her master's in hospitality, and if that degree came with a crown, she's wearing it. The Porch doesn't just run smoothly. It runs on Amber energy. But let's talk about the moment I saw God. Cornbread Eggs Benedict: Not crab. Not salmon. Corn. Bread. And not just any cornbread. The softest, fluffiest, most cuttable cloud of golden glory I've ever had the pleasure of annihilating with a fork. A fork, not a steak knife. Do you understand how rare that is? Normally I'm out here sawing through an English muffin like I'm in a lumberjack competition. This? Melted like butter. Tasted like a hug. 12/10. Incredible. And then, as if the eggs benny enlightenment wasn't enough, Joseph reappears with a tray of free Bloody Mary shots for the entire restaurant. With olives. For everyone. The joy? Immediate. The energy? Electric. The crowd? Unified. I watched a grandmother at the next table raise her glass like the queen she is. I nearly cried. This wasn't service. This was a masterclass in human connection. Restaurants can be transactional. Robotic. This was the opposite. This was care, intention, soul. My high school principal once said: "The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little bit of extra." The Porch brought extra, bagged it, garnished it, and served it on a tray. Final thought: If you're not brunching here, I'm concerned. If you are? I'll raise my Bloody Mary shot to you. And Amber, if you ever run for mayor, you've already got my vote. I'll run your campaign and show up in a custom t-shirt.

At first, I was a little hesitant because the menu is fairly small, but after my meal, I can see why. Every dish we ordered was absolutely a 10/10. I had the chicken with greens and shrimp fried rice, along with the fried green tomatoes and cornbread. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. I honestly don't have a single negative thing to say about either the food or the service. This was an amazing dining experience, and I will definitely be back. Highly recommend!

I do want to start with the positives. Our waiter was fantastic. He was very attentive, explained the menu thoroughly, and provided excellent service. The food also came out incredibly fast and piping hot, which is becoming rare these days. We started with the cornbread, and it was easily a 10/10. It was worth every bit of the $12. We ordered the fried chicken, greens, shrimp fried rice, biscuits, and hot water cornbread. The fried chicken was crispy and tender, but it lacked seasoning. I'd give it a 7/10. They served it with a house hot sauce, but surprisingly it had no heat and almost no flavor. I even asked the person I was dining with if they tasted anything because it was like pouring sauce on the chicken without changing the flavor at all. The greens were just okay on their own, but once we added the vinegar they became amazing. That made me wonder why the vinegar isn't incorporated into the greens from the start. The hot water cornbread had virtually no flavor. The shrimp fried rice was cooked really well, but it had an unexpected Caribbean-style seasoning that threw me off. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't what I was expecting, and it made it hard to fully enjoy. The biscuits were probably the biggest disappointment. They were dry and hard. One thing I also noticed is that, for a family style restaurant where you're encouraged to order several dishes to share, the tables feel too small. Once all the food arrived, there wasn't much room left, and even packing up our leftovers was awkward because of the lack of space. One standout that deserves recognition was the iced tea. It had what tasted like a subtle hint of mint and was incredibly refreshing. Easy 10/10. From the cuts of chicken we received, it appears they break down and fry whole chickens, which is perfectly fine. However, at $56 for a fried chicken that lacked seasoning, I found the price hard to justify. Maybe the cooking method or oil contributes to the cost, but I expected much more flavor for that price. Overall, I'd rate my experience a 7.5/10. Would I come back? Yes. I'd be willing to give Roots another chance and try something different from the menu. But when I hear Southern food, I expect bold seasoning and comforting flavors, and that's the one area where this meal really fell short.
