Falafel Sandwich

The owners of Petra cafe have changed and the new name replacement is Noor Cafe. Noor is an Arabic word which means light. We went in looking for Petra and ended up ordering a platter and a falafel sandwich. I must say I was beyond impressed with the juicy, tender, delectable meats and the garlic sauce combo. The bed of rice was colorful and so flavor packed. The bite of meat with a spoonful of rice and a topping of garlic sauce was heavenly and so good. We thought we would have leftovers with the portion but we ended up eating everything anyway. Service is great and the place though small is in a very good area which has a variety of stores and a lot of new shops.

Mixed Grill, No Rice, Extra Vegetables with Garlic Sauce and Taziki Sauce.. so so good!!

What a hidden gem this restaurant is. Don't let the casual vibe distract you from the fact that this family is serving absolutely delicious kebabs, house made sauces, and generous portions at an incredible value. The chicken kebab is one of the best pieces of chicken I've eaten in a restaurant in a very long time. The lamb is kebab is tender and tasty. The beef kefta is all meat and seasoned perfectly. That massive plate of food was $28 ($20 without the extra Kebab) and includes a beverage. That's an absolute steal! Great food, great people, go check this place out.

Kofta kebab

Had the kofta kebab, what was unique was that I never have been asked what spice level I wanted. I love spicy, so I asked for hot. It was the perfect level of spice and the tzatziki help keep me from sweating too much. Would definitely recommend and will be coming back when I'm in town again.

Noor Maza Special Platter (Hummus, baba ghanouj, 4 pieces of falafel, & pita bread)

Our experience at Noor Cafe was top notch. From answering all of our questions/ making suggestions for accommodations based on our preferences, to the incredible presentation & quality of the food, to the immense flavors & (very generous) quantity on our plates, 2+ weeks later & we can not stop thinking, or raving, about our meal. Despite being an-order-at-the-counter setup, the owners/ chefs served us like a sit-down & were genuinely interested in our experience & feedback throughout the evening & each course we tried. My husband doesn't have a lot of experience with Mediterranean dishes, & came in thinking he did not like lamb... but we both fell in love with everything we tasted (well, savored). AND my husband was raving about the lamb to the point that he plans to go back for lamb kebobs, only; he's a convert! I've labeled each photo with what we ordered, but our favorites were definitely the mixed kebobs: the meat is so well-seasoned & cooked, with delicious veggies & rice, & Greek salad to accompany it. (Also, I haven't stopped thinking about their Garlic & Tzatziki sauces... I want to try them on everything I eat... ever! ) Any complaints in other reviews about the time it takes (though we didn't wait more than 15 minutes for each component) clearly do not appreciate superior, made-to-order food. Visit Noor Cafe, ASAP, & experience it for yourself. (And tell them Cory & Chapin recommended you go.)

Both were delicious and well portioned. The guvec (veggie casserole) had eggplant, mushrooms, peppers, carrots, and other veggies plus rice and a small salad. The delight had carrots, eggplant, tomatoes, mushrooms, peppers, served on top of hummus and walnuts. The food was delivered quickly given the restaurant was full on a Friday night. Good thing we made reservations, which we will do again when we return.

The entire place is covered with the evil eye charms, so you should definitely be safe here. I highly recommend reservations because they sure get busy. And while the ambiance is great, you really cannot linger for long, as there are usually folks waiting to get a seat. The menu is quite extensive and offers plenty for carnivores and vegetarians alike. I opted for the Iskender, which is crisp pita bread pieces topped with meat slices, all of it doused in a savory tomato based sauce and topped with dollops of yoghurt. The bread has little crisp edges and together with the meat and toppings gives you like a mini sandwich in your mouth. Simply delicious. The Turkish spices bring a wonderful flavor to the dish. I highly recommend it. Hat to admit it, but I have not been too impressed with the tzaziki on previous visits. It was somewhat runny and bland, but I haven't had in a while. Street parking is limited, but in the summer there is a gravel lot on the side of the neighboring building. However when it snows, parking can be a bit of a problem, so be aware.

We're always looking for good Greek food in Indianapolis and noticed this spot while eating…read moresomewhere nearby, so we decided to make a trip back downtown for it at a later time. Located in a cute blue house, this is conveniently located near Lucas Oil Stadium and there was a huge concert going on the night we were there, but we were still allowed to park in their parking area. Inside has nice lighting and is pretty plain but has a homey feel. The menu contains many items we're familiar with having visited Greece twice. So I'm going to be a little critical here with my review of the food. I ordered the Greek Spaghetti, which I have had in Greece. Unfortunately this was not at all what I was expecting or anything like Greek spaghetti. What I was served was basically Prego spaghetti sauce with pieces of gyro in it. Traditional Greek spaghetti (or Makaronia me Kima) is a wonderful sauce that's seasoned with all kinds of memorable spices. It's definitely not pieces of gyro meat thrown in a sauce. So while this was fine, it was not what I truly wanted or thought I was getting so I was pretty disappointed. My husband got the chicken souvlaki and that was better but still not quite like what I remember. The meat was almost smoked and lacked some of the Greek spices that gives it a distinct taste. And the tzatziki...well, let's just say it tastes like whipped feta and was lacking in flavor too. I did enjoy the pita bread. Our service was underwhelming as well. It took a while for anyone to notice we were there and needed to be seated and the server basically did the bare minimum, never even asking if we wanted our water refilled. Overall, it was fine. If I had never been to Greece, I may have a different opinion but this isn't someplace I really want to go back to.
