Worst group of people I have ever worked with. Zero communication and fraudulent. Broker was an hour late then didn't even have the keys. Applied, deposited, and paid to take off the market then had to literally hound the agent (who never met us) to get updates. Only to have the management ILLEGALLY reject our application after proving we make over 80x the rent. Now they are holding our money. They were understanding and really did their best in refunding me ASAP. Thank you so much! I was working with Nooklyn for three weeks and the overall experience was deflating and lack-luster. Over the course of three weeks I had put my deposit down on two separate apartments and each apartment fell through (one not really being the fault of nooklyn). The deposit and application policies are bizarre and idiotic. Unlike what most people would think, if you submit a deposit on a place via Nooklyn, that does not hold or secure the place for you. So on two occasions I placed a deposit down on two separate buildings to lose both locations to another group of tenants. When I requested getting that deposit back, I was met with uncertainty as to when the funds will be back in my account. I was quoted 5-7 business days. This is unacceptable, as those funds are needed for another listing that I have just found. If someone at Nooklyn could please respond or inform me as to what the best way to get my deposit back in the quickest way possible, I would greatly appreciate it. I appreciate all of my agent's efforts throughout my search and truly would have had an overall okay experience if I am able to get my deposit back ASAP. After calling to inquire about selling property, the individual on the phone gave me an attitude problem after providing the address of the property. After she could not locate the property, she just said she will ask her manager and hung up on me without getting any contact information or follow up steps. read more

I had a mixed experience with Nooklyn... On the positive side, Vanner, the agent who showed us our apartment was absolutely amazing. He was knowledgable, friendly, prompt and considerate. Super helpful and he made finding our apartment hassle free. Vanner was great!! As soon as we picked the place though, things started to fall apart. We were only given 2 days to gather all of our materials to apply for the apartment and the agents were pretty aggressive in rushing us to get our documents in and pay the fees. We met all deadlines and got our information submitted, but once we gave them the documents they asked for and our money, communication was minimal. Then, when we actually came in to sign the lease, the agents had the wrong names on the lease (twice), they had the wrong amount of rent on the documents, and they had no answers to any of the questions we asked. It felt incredibly unprofessional and disorganized. All-in-all, the viewing and choosing part of the process was pleasant but as soon as we got past that, things were chaotic. When Nooklyn needed something from us, they were ALL over us, but when we needed something from them, it was radio silent. I'd recommend using their services as we are happy with the end result, but don't expect a lot of communication or flexibility on their part. read more

Nooklyn is a very convenient way to search for apartments, they also have pretty good services when you are just looking for a room instead of an entire apartment. The only reason this review gets 4/5 stars is because the app and website can be really finicky to work with sometimes. The app will crash when you're in the middle of liking apartments and then when you go back nothing you "liked" has been saved. Same with the website. BUT I would like to 5/5 stars to a broker named Armando, he is a doll. He is so helpful and willing to go the extra mile for the people he is working with. He is also HONEST, which unfortunately is a quality you don't always see in brokers. He told me about a few apartment situations that I should avoid (beyond messy potential roommates, landlords who are not responsive or very hard to work with). He showed us apartments the next day after telling him our criteria and with "No Fee" and applied that night! The process was so easy, quick, and he simplified a lot of legal jargon for my roomie and I. We now have a home that's beyond perfect for us all thanks to Anthony Bennett and Nooklyn! I worked with Ying Lo. She was incredibly helpful from beginning to end. I had my heart set on a tricky apartment, and she was able to broaden my horizons a bit and showed me atleast half a dozen apartments in person (while maintaining social distance), and kept providing me with updates on new apartments as they became available that were in my budget and my style/wanted layout in my neighborhood of choice. We worked together for almost 3 weeks, and she was a delight. I never once felt pressured to apply for any apartment and she was always available for any questions I had. She did everything in her power to find me the right apartment, which she did. Unprofessional company. They took my deposit of $2500 out of my account before my application was even approved. (Another tenant with another broker & company was accepted before mine) Despite taking the money I still have not been able to process a full return. Their site also states that if you paid via Bank you will have to wait 5-10 days to recieve a check after your payment was processed when the payment should have never been processed at all. To make matters worse, I was NEVER informed of this EVER. Why would a rental company take money out of an account for a deposit if the tenant's application hasn't even been viewed yet? I recently signed a lease for an apartment in Bushwick and I assumed the entire process would be smooth since I was working with Nooklyn. I heard great things about them but was extremely disappointed with my Real Estate Salesperson, Kate Quintard. I work in Advertising/Media and know what it means to respect a relationship with clients. I originally contacted Mike Weinstock about an apartment listing and he went above and beyond and connected me with my new roommate! I guess he works under Kate which is unfortunate. She did not loop him into any of the conversations we had with her via text/email. Kate went on vacation during our lease signing process and Mike wasn't privy to a lot of details (i.e. guarantor's info, getting keys, etc.). I need it to be noted that if you're going to be out of office, the professional thing to do is to update the person taking over your responsibilities. I had to ask Kate several times when she was available so that I could drop off my security deposit in person and when the June rent was due. She claimed that she made an "exception" with not sending in my paystubs which was very confusing since I sent all the documents she asked for in a zipped file via email. Attention to detail is key, no? Also, writing professional emails is a skill to learn. There is a difference in texting versus emailing. I also made it very clear that having a legit mailbox at the new apartment was a priority of mine. Identity theft is a major issue and that should be acknowledge. It was clear she did not care and sent me a picture of the crappy mailbox that was installed. There was no actual email, no words, just a picture. I spoke with one of the Property Managers and he said it would be ok to move in the day before June 1st and Kate emailed me that she was arranging to get the keys for me. I went into the Nooklyn office to sign the lease and give in my deposit but was given a hard time with getting the keys. Mike had to text Kate back and forth regarding that. She had the nerve to say it was presumptuous of me to think I could move in the day before. I spoke to the Property Manager, how is that presumptuous? How is that even professional? We signed with them for an apartment in Bedstuy, which we thought was just dirty and would be cleaned- as we were told but it turns out it was actually black mold. Once we decided to pull from that, our realtor, Mike Weinstock or something like that, tried to talk us into staying. Gross. Then we continued looking at other places with Mike and his wife Trish, were Mike really didn't listen to what we wanted and wasn't trying at all to help us find places. Trish was sweet. Ended up signing through MySpace NYC which asked for way less info to sign opposed to Nooklyn which pretty much wanted my 3rd grade report cards. I'm giving it 3 stars because we did work with other realtors through Nooklyn that were great such as Jake but I'm so happy I didn't go through them read more

I want to note that I have never left a review (bad or good), but my experience was so bad, I created an account just to make everyone else aware. The Agents at 28 Scott Ave working with this company are absolutely horrible, customer service included. They only want your money and if the Appartment process falls through, they will take your money unless you're in constant contact demanding for it back. My girlfriend and I are recent college graduates and have been apartment searching since July. We got in contact with Nooklyn, about late July and at first the agent we spoke to, Mike Weinstock, was really adamant in helping us and actually seemed like he cared about helping us find a place. He showed us a few places and although they were nice, we knew we could get better apartments for the same price we were going to pay. Mike, instead, kept trying to push the apartments we'd looked at on us. When I told him I thought we could do better, he got disinterested and no longer suggested apartments for us or reached out again with suggestions. A week later, I myself found a better Appartment on the Nooklyn app and sent it to him. He would just tell us why we couldn't have the apartment and offered no further help. For a week he claimed he was waiting to hear back from tenants to help us tour, but when i called the building directly, i was able to do tours that very same day. Another week later I got back in touch and he only started helping me again after I told him I was willing to increase my budget. My budget at the beginning of the search at $2000 and by the end it was $2650. And then STILL I found the apartment by myself and he offered to help out and sent over his assistant Brandon Parker to do the tour. On that Wednesday we finally found an apartment that we liked with them. My girlfriend submitted her deposit for the place via credit card, and mine by bank transfer. The money processed and left my account by Friday and coincidentally, our other roomate who was going to live with us backed out, so I requested a refund that same Friday. The following Tuesday, I get in touch with Mike, asking if my refund was being processed. He threw me back to Brandon, who replied to my "Is my refund being processed?" with "Yeah sure" Wednesday: After I filed a complaint, he quickly got intouch with me saying that the refund was on its way but it took a while for the bank to physically send them the money, even after it was processed, and I should have it back by check in 5-10 business days. And that my girlfriend should have already had the money in her account since the day before, because she paid by credit card Friday morning: My girlfriend got her money back to her account after the agent told her she'd get it back Tuesday. Wednesday the support team saying she'd have it that night. As of today (Friday) I have just received my check. The agents assigned to us haven't responded since. The support team is as equally unreliable as the agents. My bank said all the money was processed and paid to a Nooklyn that very Friday. Which means the agent lied and made up the payment processing excuse when I asked about my refund. Let alone my girlfriends which she should've got back that Friday. Don't go with Nooklyn, they don't really care about you, just your money. They are eager at first, but if you don't sign immediately, they don't care about you or actually helping you get a good apartment for your money. Save all of your messages to them if you decide to do business. read more

We were shown only apartments we found because they claimed to be too busy to come up with any suggestions. After putting a deposit on an apartment and submitting our application, one week later we were informed that someone else had offered the building more money for the apartment and we didn't have the option of matching the offer. In that wasted time, apartment prices went up by $300 leaving us to scramble to find a new place to live. We moved our deposit to another one Nooklyn had shown us, only to be told that the new apartment we put a deposit was also taken and that we could take one in the next building over that was similar but we had never actually seen. Luckily by this point we had put a deposit down on an apartment with a much better realtor who actually responded to our concerns. My advice is use anyone else. read more

Overall horrible experience. Mike and Trish Weinstock 'worked' with us to apply for the listing and then passed us onto James Watson for signing and inquiries thereafter. Mike and Trish were the least responsive, least professional, least pleasant agents I could imagine working with and stopped responding completely after our application went through. James was entirely unreachable and unaccountable for so far the entirety of our 1 year lease (going on last month) even though he was the only point of contact we were given for complaints/requests to building management (which was a nightmare, 6 months in we found out our landlord is routinely listed in the top 20 worst landlords in NY and known as a Brooklyn slumlord, so those are the real estate companies Nooklyn is trying to sell you on with zero warning - beware of an owner/super who goes by "Rupert"). They were misleading and uncommunicative about the application and hurt our guarantor's credit with an unauthorized hard inquiry. None of the simple repairs we were told would be taken care of by our official start date were ever done, we were never given a copy of our signed lease despite multiple requests, James refused to communicate by email and lied to our building management about his attempts to reach us, and Mike only just reached out at the end of the lease to request that we refer our friends to them as 'referrals are the highest complement.' I can only assume from the different tone of other reviews that your income needs to be a few figures larger than mine for them to act remotely human. In no way are they here to serve the whole community, if you have the right income you can prepare for some serious ass-kissing and if not you will be dismissed out of hand and likely condescended to in the process. Stupid move for a salesperson. This is my very first yelp review and I'm literally just doing it so they can know there is some consequence for being total dicks. I read it in other reviews and I'll echo it here - Nooklyn makes you want to leave New York. Not exactly a winning slogan. read more

Very honest review here. This was my first time using Nooklyn and I was skeptical. I was not sure about how commissions were divvied up amongst all of the agents as there was so many listings for different apartments around Brooklyn I was hoping to view. After a few different agents not being helpful, I wanted to give up and continue the search on my own. LUCKILY, by the good graces of the universe, Mike Weinstock came into my life unexpectedly stepping in for another agent and I can't begin to explain how much of a pleasure it was working with Mike. He's kind, he's patient, and he is honest. All attributes hard to find in an agent just looking to make a buck or two these days. Thanks to him and his wife Trish, I have a beautiful apartment that I plan on staying in for a few years. Or until Brooklyn landlords do as they do and raise the rent to astronomical fees. Agents double rents on commercial spaces and re-post tons of ads, hoping for a big commission or more 'haggle' room. Nooklyn does more to interfere with the commercial lease ecosphere in NYC than any other brokerage company, driving up prices to impossible levels. NYC and the world would be a better place if Nooklyn, as a hipster boutique realty, did not exist at all. Never broker with Nooklyn, unless you want to pay more than necessary. They are secondary market resellers, essentially, and know almost nothing about actual NYC commercial leases. read more

Man oh man. My apartment search this summer was like a breathe of fresh air, and that was in no small part because of the people over at Nooklyn. I feel like with such a competitive market like NYC, it can be so difficult to find realtors/brokers that have patience for prospective renters, which just makes the apartment search that much more difficult. I had the opportunity to view a few different listings with a few different agents from Nooklyn, and most of them were incredibly friendly and willing to help. I had the pleasure of working with Isaac for my current apartment. He was incredibly communicative and checked in on every question that we had about the apartment (because I had A LOT!). He even provided us numerous check-ins to ensure our lease signing and move in process went seamlessly. It's that level of professionalism that really just alleviates the headache of apartment searching. I'll definitely be looking to use Nooklyn again in the future. read more

First, I would like to start with a positive. My roommate and I ended up working with Manny and he was very supportive in helping us find a home. We ended up taking the first place he showed us, though he took the time to show us multiple places in the style we were looking for. Was very aware of the area and knew what was available. We also ended up working with Matthew Giannone from nooklyn and the experience with him was unpleasant. Meeting with my roommate earlier in the day, he was a half hour late to the appointment. My roommate had liked the place she seen with him and wanted me to check it out so I set up an appointment as well. I told him anytime in the evening that week worked, but he said to come at 8pm to view it that day. Even though it was after hours, he made it seem as if it was not a problem. I ended up seeing the place that evening and went back to my roommate to discuss it as a potential home. The next day, I texted him in the morning and told him we wouldn't be moving forward with the place. His response to this was rude and nasty. He starts berating me saying he went out of his way to show me the apt (though the only reason we met at that time is because he suggested too) and that he only did it because he thought we were seriously interested and that we wasted his time. I told him we were however, the apt doesn't fit some of our needs and I wasn't aware of a broker fee. He then replies "sorry to hear the small broker fee was a deal breaker" in a very sarcastic tone. The Broker fee was 1000 dollars and regardless of how "small" or big something is, I have the right to spend my money the way I see fit, and that wasn't where I wanted to put it. Attempting to belittle somebody whose financial background you are completely unaware of is distasteful and shows that you are only in this for the money and not to find people homes. Eventually, I had to block his number because he would not stop ranting and harassing me. If you work with nooklyn, avoid him at all cost. He is someone of little principal and is quick to throw a tantrum when he doesn't get what he wants. read more

My roommate and I signed our first lease with Nooklyn & Agent Jonathan Q, for our first BK apartment. It took some time to find a space that both my roommate and I were comfortable with and for the amount of rent that was being asked. Jonathan sent listings regualrly and I believe that because all parties were transparent, in different regards, the moment we walked into our current apartment, the process to apply and secure it went smoothly (despite some ridiculous questions from the management company of our building. There are some apartments that weren't listed on Nooklyn's app --StreetEasy or another app -- but we were able to send them to Jonathan. At that point he was able to find the listing agent and schedule a viewing if we were truly intrested. Jonathan Q. is a dope agent. If you are able to secure him -- you won't be disappointed. Regardless of it's your first rodeo or not for apartmemt searching, be strategic and know the hiearcy of your priorities. That way, the agent you work with will know what you will not give up and what you may possibly give up. In the end, never be intimiated by the process, the listing agent nor the management company. FOR THE SAKE OF ALL RENTERS -- NEVER AGREE TO GIVING UP 12 MONTHS WORTH OF CHECKS JUST TO SECURE A PROPERTY. How can management ask for 12 months without any guarentee they won't deposit the checks before the 1st of each month (I didn't experience this through Nooklyn). read more

Chris and Ying both helped make the process extremely easy for my roommate and I and even helped us find a third roommate. They spent a lot of time researching the perfect apartment and giving us lot of options. RUN, DO NOT WALK, AWAY FROM NOOKLYN OR ANYONE AFFILIATED WITH THEM! Nooklyn rents apartments that are straight-up ILLEGAL with appalling conditions and numerous violations. It's only a matter of time before someone dies in one of these DEATH TRAPS they have the nerve to rent out to people. They also work with known slumlords. We ended up in an apartment that had not been cleaned or had repairs completed in time for our move-in date. This was only the beginning. We discovered many more maintenance problems shortly. Some of the problems were serious health and safety risks. We got an inspector from NYC Code Enforcement Department to come, and she said no one should have ever been allowed to live in this apartment. We were ignored by our slumlord and Nooklyn. When we finally got replies from Nooklyn, they were rude and told us different things each time they talked to us. It was maddening. We managed to get out after much hassle. We're lucky. But we lost money on the move-in and move-out and application fees. Not to mention a chunk of our sanity. This experience was draining and traumatizing. Save yourself the nightmare, loss of money, and potentially your health and safety, and just stay far away from Nooklyn. We are sharing our experience in the hope that others don't go through what we did. P.S. Previous reviews mentioned Deodat Lowtan. We'd also like to warn others to look out for any properties rented by him. He also goes by "Rupert" and "Chet Corp, LLC." We want to add that they played the same games with us that other people reported. They started by showing us nice apartments we liked and happily took our deposit, only to tell us soon after that the nice places were no longer available or our application wasn't strong enough (despite all apartments being in the same price range). This is part of the reason we ended up in an apartment that wasn't our first choice, but we were assured the needed repairs would be done. Of course, this apartment turned out to be beyond our worst nightmares. We simply ran out of time to keep hunting and had already paid application and credit check fees. Guess we should have taken these things as red flags, but we were naive. Sure looks like a scam or just general dishonesty and predatory practices in hindsight. read more

The only thing potentially more annoying/unpleasant/and time consuming than moving is the act of looking for an apartment in New York. I've had some terrible experiences in the past with pushy brokers from other agencies who weren't listening to what my needs were and thereby wasting both of our time. Our experience with NOOKLYN was AWESOME! It was painless and easy-going and not at all what I was expecting in Brooklyn. Christopher was beyond helpful and honest about everything, every step of the way. We were looking for a three bedroom in Bushwick on a budget and wanted to keep our search within a very small radius of Bushwick, since we were only interested in (and familiar with) living off of certain train stops. We were surprised by the amount of apartments that we were shown that met our specific criteria. Dealing with a group of three can be challenging when each of us had different things that were important to us. Christopher (who looks/acts more like a bartender than a broker) remembered all of our criteria (even tiny things) and was able to help us narrow down our options. While we never felt pushed, he did mention that one apartment we were considering would most likely go very fast. After viewing about 8 apartments we needed a day to discuss everything. The next day, the apartment that he said might go was taken by someone else and unfortunately it was one of the top two that we were considering. C'est la vie! The apartment we DID end up taking is beautiful! Each one of us has a good sized room with good natural light, we are only a 5 minute walk to the L and M trains and most importantly,our living room is bigger than just about any of our fieinds. (We have exposed brick which to me is whatever but my roommate apparently needs in order to breath or something because she kept shooting down any apartment that didn't have it) Choosing the apartment was only the first part of our journey however because we still needed to get approved. Alex & everyone in the office were so friendly and helpful and even though one of my roommates is a musician with no credit or W2s or anything, they helped us get approved and dealt with our parents and everything. Imagine being in your apartment half naked and a random male unlocking your door and barging in. My roommate (female) and I had an open 3rd bedroom that we knew was on the market. However, the agents at Nooklyn failed to communicate that they had found someone for the space and that they had given that individual keys to the unit. They were not concerned about matching us with a roommate that we would feel comfortable with but only concerned with making a profit. More importantly, they didn't have the decency to SEND A TEXT informing us to expect someone. I am baffled at the poor communication and disregard for lessors. I wouldn't recommend unless you are in a rush and are willing to accept any type of service. Not to mention, just last week, I received a last minute phone call asking if I could let two men into the unit because the agent wasn't available to come with them for a showing. Nooklyn claims to help tenants find their perfect roommate. This is a clear false advertisement because my roommate and I have no clueless about who we are going to be occupying an apartment with for the next year. do not care about who they move where. They are only concerned with filling units for profit. read more

Moving is quite literally the WORST, as you probably already know. After apartment hunting on CL and finding only the most crap-tacular living spots, we were super lucky to have found Steve. He asked us a few questions about our budget and ideal locations, and brought us to a place that perfectly matched all of our needs. Steve is an awesome, chill guy to talk with, but most importantly, he can find exactly what you need in Bushwick / Willy / E Willy. Spent the first week of the month with Nooklyn. Biggest waste of time and money all around. Cris (Agent) had no knowledge of said apartment during viewing, and looked like a hot drunk mess (red flag number 1). We were told then and there we can put money down on the place, spent 2500.00 dollars just to be told 24 hours later its off the market. Back in the day, putting a SECURITY DEPOSIT in for a place meant you are SECURING THAT PLACE. Go figure. Erin (another agent) basically said boo hoo things like this happen. They lured us in with this apartment that was never available to begin with. We saw additional postings for the same apartment posted by nooklyn 4 days after we were told it was off the market!!! Annie spent so much time and energy looking for the perfect apartment for me. I have to admit I am extremely picky so for her to be so patient and helpful to me was amazing.Not only was she helpful and patient but she was very kind and made the process very comfortable. My apartment is not only beautiful and dog friendly but its affordable in the neighborhood I wanted to be in. I've had really bad experiences in the past with realtors ( citi-habitats ) So this was an amazing change of pace. Thanks so much! read more
