I met David Crombie a few years ago when he worked for a different real estate agency. While I did not, ultimately, end up working with that particular agency, I recalled that David was friendly, patient, and always went out of his way to be helpful. Accordingly, when I saw a beautiful apartment listed on StreetEasy, and I noticed that David was the listing agent, and I was excited about the opportunity to work with him again. I emailed him to express my interest in the apartment, and referenced working with him in the past. He not only remembered me, but he was immediately enthusiastic about helping me find a place. David agreed to meet me that Sunday, despite that not being one of his usual workdays, because that's what worked well for my schedule; and although, by that time, the apartment I originally emailed about was no longer available, David already had several back-up options lined up. He was knowledgeable about the management companies for the buildings where we viewed apartments, and he helped me "look at the space" in cases where the apartment wasn't ready for move-in. The apartment that I ultimately decided to go with was huge, and it was overall a really stunning piece of property. However, the previous tenants had just vacated the apartment and left it in a state of disarray and dirtiness, and I was concerned about whether or not it would be adequately cleaned and repaired before I moved in. David explained to me that the apartment would almost certainly be rented before they finished cleaning and painting it. However, in order to ease my trepidation around putting a deposit down on an apartment that was not in good condition, he agreed to convey my requirements to management (that it would, at the very least, be cleaned, painted, and exterminated before my move-in date), and he even agreed to go back to the apartment with me at a later date to ensure that they had followed through on their promises. Sure enough, when we went back, management had begun to do everything I'd asked for and more--even though they already had my money. Additionally, because my income and credit were a bit shy of what building management really wanted, David helped me think through creative ways of proving to management that I would be a good tenant (e.g. showing additional rent receipts, writing a cover letter about my history as a tenant, etc.). Sure enough, within 24-hours of submitting all of the paperwork (and after David did some advocating on my behalf), management had approved me for the apartment! David texted me to let me know right away (over a holiday weekend, to boot!)! I had an absolutely spectacular experience with David Crombie, and I couldn't recommend him enough. I recently moved across the country from Seattle to NYC, and had only 3 days to find an apartment for May before I left the country for a work trip (imagine a 22-year-old girl imploding from stress here). I found a listing on Street Easy for a newly-renovated one bedroom in Brooklyn and sent an inquiry. David emailed me back and immediately set up a showing. From the moment he welcomed me into the building, I got a great impression. He was friendly, lively and very courteous. The apartment looked even better than it did on the photos online, the rent was as listed and there were no hidden fees. I kept on waiting for a catch, because it seemed too good to be true, but there wasn't (and still isn't) one. Honestly, I was lucky to have been the first person to see it, otherwise someone else would have snatched it immediately. We found Joe at Lang Realty through the online broker RDNY.com. Since there seemed to be a lot of listings in Crown Heights connected to his name we were persistent when it came to pursing his ads, many of which we were told had been rented within a day of posting. That being said, when we managed an appointment with Joe he showed us a two-bedroom in our price range in an area adjacent to our dream street. The apartment turned out to be pretty horrible (dim, uneven floors, a hideous bathroom), but, then again, our price range was on the moderate side and the space was huge. Joe asked us what we thought and when we told him, he paused for a moment before scrolling though his phone to find photos of another apartment. He suggested we look at a one-bedroom with the option of converting the living room. I was skeptical at first, but when I saw the photos of the prewar building I agreed. When we got to the apartment it was immediate: This was home! The first "bedroom" was bigger than my old studio, with a kitchen large enough entertain in. The bathroom and second bedroom were pristine. The rent was even a bit lower than what we expected to pay! Joe was right to suggest something out of the ordinary. I never would have thought on my own to consider a one-bedroom. When we put in the application the next day the entire office was accommodating of the fact that they were dealing with two co-singers, one of whom was still living out of state. If you are considering finding an Apartment in Brooklyn then I would strongly recommend using Lang Realty. I searched countless days and made numerous appointments in search for the perfect apartment for my roommates and I to live in. We met our fair share of idiots and also met a few Realtors who actually knew what they were doing. We first met an individual by the name of Sam who was very nice and had a lot of information about the apartment; however, the apartment just wasn't what we were looking for. After many other disappointments using Craigslist, we stumbled across Dave Kehaty on numerous listings. He was very polite over the phone and listened to exactly what we wanted. He had just the apartment for us and within a matter of minutes we were filling out paperwork. We are three college students so of course we had to deal with a lot of paperwork back and forth from out parents back home (other states) and they were more than willing to be patient and work with us in order to get everything done. When we walked into the office we saw Sam, the other very polite Realtor and that made us feel better about Lang Realty knowing that they had great employees working for them. Dave is very friendly, easy to talk to and responds very quickly to any and every question. He's very down to earth and I feel a bit safer in my neighborhood when I casually walk by and see him outside of business clothes visiting his family on the same street. In Fall 2009 I moved to the NYC area for graduate school. I'd heard only daunting about the apartment hunt process as well as the prices that people pay for not very much, so I was pretty intimidated. While Craigslist had been great for me to find fantastic deals in cities like Washington DC, it was riff with misleading postings and wastes of times. Luckily I had some great friends, cousins and Yelp to guide me through the NYC apartment hunting process. Via Yelp I connected with Lang Realty and Dave Khealthy. Dave was helpful, enthusiastic,, efficient and knowledgeable. I was already familiar with the area that they lease in (Prospect Heights/Prospect Lefferts Gardens/Crown Heights) and really liked it, as well as had my list of 'must haves' for an apartment that would get me through at least two years of grad school. As with any realty company, I think it helps to show you are a serious candidate who know what you are looking for and is ready to move quickly with all items that are needed for an apartment rental. This goes double for the NYC-area rental market. The management company that I was connected with at through Lang was so fantastic that I was able to get out of the least at 10 months (since I was relocating for a job) and This was a far smoother experience than I had with any management companies in the Washington DC area! I've since completed grad school and have moved back to the Mid-Atlantic area, but was just back in Brooklyn last weekend and went to visit Prospect Lefferts Gardens with fond memories. We I first decide that it was time to move from where I was living, I already knew I did not want to deal with a broker. So i did like any other New Yorker and scoured Craigslist everyday and night. i cam across some really weird spots and must say discouraged me from even looking for apartments in Brooklyn. After deciding that if i did not find a place ASAP I will have to either move in with my mother or become someones room mate. On my last day of searching I came across a craigslist and noticed that it was listed by Lang Realty, off course I was desperate so I called Lang Realty and made an appointment with Dave. The first apartment that i wanted to see was already taken by the time my appointment came around. I expressed to Dave how urgent it was that I needed to move and by the next day he contact me via text and told me he has a great one bedroom in a nice apartment building and he was more than happy to show it to me. I jumped at the chance. When we arrived a the apartment I must say i have heard Realtors tell me that an apartment was great and when Ishowed up it looked like a crime scene. Well Not with Dave he was not lying at all the apartment was clean and beautiful. That was the only apartment that I looked at I did not want to see another because i fell in love with that one. He fought for me to get that apartment and needless to say i will be moving in on the 1st of January. Dave was so cool i could reach him at anytime and I never felt that I was pressured or rushed. Lang was good and helpful and got my son and his family a beautiful apartment in a nice area. I just want to warn people about Virtual Real Estate ,693 5th Ave, Brooklyn. Mike Elder the boss, has got to be one of the worst in the business. March 28 he rented an apt to them from a friend of his. It turned out that the landlord later admitted that he never provided heat or hot water and he told us "I never will" . He got Elder to escort Luke and his family out because he was, "afraid of people with kids because people with kids sue us" . They said that they are in trouble with the Dept of Ed and Administration of Child Services because because they never have heat or hot water and tenants with kids sue the landlord because the kids get sick from living in an unheated apartment. The kids missed a lot of school from being sick. My son only got his possessions back when I promised to call the NYPD. I was curious abut the landlord saying that he had complaints from tenants about no heat which caused the DOE and ACS to get involved so I looked up 749 40th street on the Dept. Of Buildings website. The DOB website shows that there is No Certificate of Occupancy for the building. Virtual Real Estate cashed the $1300 check for the realtor's fee and won't return it. They insist that since they showed 5 apartments the family must pay $1300 for their time. I never heard of a sales person getting $1300 for not making a sale or for renting an illegal apartment that the tenants got thrown out of in 24 hours because they might sue for lack of the legally required heat and hot water.. read more

We worked together for about five days and he was SUPER responsive and accommodating with time and not so convenient travel. We eventually found the right space for me and I put down a deposit as the application was processed. We did run into a little hiccup as the landlord took longer than I had expected, but unlike the bad reviews here, Seth was super responsive and transparent the entire way through. I really appreciated that. He was nice and professional the whole way. I actually didn't read the reviews before choosing Lang...(I know, crazy right?) It was only after i applied that i read the reviews and I was shocked to see that the were polar opposite the the experience I was getting. Even as the lanlord delayed things, Seth made me feel comfortable and I never felt like I was getting scammed AT ALL! I had confidence that the landlord would either accept me or not..( such as life), but that in no way reflected the professionalism of the broker and Lang. Thank you Lang Realty! My girlfriend and I are headed for an intense semester in school and we needed to find an apartment ASAP. We sat on Craigslist for days browsing through a seemingly endless stream of apartments, of which we really had no way of determining whether they really fit our needs in terms of design, space, and location without traveling all around Brooklyn to check each spot. Finally I came across an apt that lead me to Lang Realty's website. Boy was I impressed. The search criteria made it so simple to narrow our search by neighborhood and price range. The pictures were clear and accurate, and the convenient google maps right alongside enabled us to see how distant the apt was from the subway etc... When I phoned Sam, I was very pleased with his professionalism and friendly tone. We spoke for a few minutes and he was able to pinpoint what we were looking for. He understood our urgency and scheduled a showing for the next day. After seeing the apartment my girlfriend and I both agreed: He nailed it! My husband and I were looking for two bedroom in Brooklyn and a friend recommended we call Dave at Lang Realty. VERY good advice! We had already seen (too) many apartments and dealt with a lot of brokers who didn't really seem to care at all, especially if we weren't interested in the very first apartment they showed us. Dave is incredible! As usual, we weren't interested in the first apartment he showed us, but he asked us questions about what we wanted (imagine that?) and from then on, he was like our apartment matchmaker. He knew we could not afford a fee, so he showed us no-fee places only. He called, emailed, and texted into the evenings - sending pictures and listings of places he thought we would like. And he did it with genuine enthusiasm - I think sometimes he was more excited than we were. Dave also helped us with the application. I'm returning to school full-time and my husband is a foreign freelancer. And we have a dog... Not the most attractive applicants. Dave suggested we write a letter to the landlord and add some things to our application and then he negotiated with the landlord on our behalf. We ended up paying an extra month's security (first, last and deposit) but it was worth it. Tomorrow we are moving into an awesome, sunny, rent-stabilized two bedroom that is 3 times the size of our current place. I'm ever thankful to the friend who recommended him! read more

When looking for a place in Brooklyn, I turned to Craigslist. It was quite difficult to even schedule a viewing at most places...VERY FRUSTRATING!! but over a period of a few months I saw several studios and one-bedrooms in the Prospect Heights/Crown Heights areas. With only a week until my old lease was up, I was desperate to find "the place" that felt like home. I knew that Lang Realty always had several postings on Craigslist, and when I called the office and told them my price range, Natalie got back to me a short while later and scheduled me an appointment with Dave to check out a few apartments. Dave was right on time, very friendly and up front about the properties. No skeevy salesmanship here! I really appreciated that, and had such a good vibe about the place, as well as the people I'd be dealing with, that I went back to the Lang Realty office and put down some money! I heard back that night that I was accepted, and we scheduled a lease signing for a few days later. Dave was even kind enough to pass my contact info. on to the current renters so we could discuss the move-in/move-out time frame... Overall the whole process was quick and easy! I will definitely send others their way!! Some advice: Bring your checkbook, paystubs/W-2s with you whenever you're looking at a property...you have to be able to act fast if you find what you want! When I needed to find an apartment in a pinch Craiglist was my first go to for no-fee apartments. I knew I wanted to stay within a very specific area so I was having some difficulty even finding places that I wanted to see. That was when I found a few post for apartments in Prospect / Crown Heights under the Lang Realty banner. Dave was my contact and within a few minutes we had agreed on meeting to view a place. He was there when I got there and showed me a great apartment. I didnt get that one particular place, but Dave was amazing and seemed very interested in what it is I really cared to have in my new apartment. He was also very knowledgeable about Brooklyn in general and seemed to really love living here himself. Well, I didnt get the first apartment, but Dave was extremely helpful even after the fact (and this with no broker fee, he was genuinely interested in placing me in a good apartment). He called me that evening and we arranged to see some other places in the neighborhood and he ended up showing me two really great places. One of which was perfect. I will now be moving in within the week and I couldnt be happier. The other people that work there are just as helpful and generally very friendly. Working with Dave made an an otherwise insanity provoking experience very manageable. He was so available for questions and help, and SO fast to respond; what everyone else says is true. (How DOES he type that fast?) I called him up about a cheaper studio on the south side of prospect park. When he found out I was doing (or trying to do) my apartment search from Minnesota, he said there is no way he'd let me rent there without first coming out to see it. BUT, he offered an even better suggestion, a 1BR (which i thought I could never manage to get into) in a better neighborhood for not much more than I was looking to spend. I know it is more an exception than a rule, but he was able to get me into a great 1 BR apartment while I was still in MN finishing up work before heading to NY for grad school. (I was lucky enough to have a friend out here to look at it for me). The paperwork was a little tricky with a co-signer on the application, but we got it all together and he was so helpful. If I ever move in brooklyn again it will be through Lang no messing with craigslist or any of that nonsense, especially Dave, who was amazing in absolutely every way. Just when I thought great customer service was a thing of the past, I met Dave from Lang. Dave is great. He's helpful, responsive, funny, and wears killer Converse (which I only mention, because they're fun to look at). Initially, Dave helped me to get my paperwork in on a lovely apartment in my favorite neighborhood. When it turned out that I was just a tad too slow on the draw, and another applicant got her paperwork in before me (through a different broker), Dave fought the good fight for me. Unfortunately for me, the other applicant was approved, which is where normally this story would end. However, Dave wanted to make sure I'd had a successful search, so he kept in mind my needs, wants and price range and contacted me as soon as he heard of something that fit the bill. Not only did he keep me in mind, he arranged a viewing for me before the apartment went "public." On top of that, he gave me the rest of the afternoon to make up my mind once I'd seen the space. The apartment is adorable, beyond fairly priced and is housed in a building that Dave says is his fave. We were desperate. We had a packed Uhaul and nowhere to unload it. We stumbled upon David (and Lang Realty) though one of the listings on craigslist, and figured we'd go check this apartment out. We loved the first apartment, but alas, it had already gone to someone else. Fortunately David immediately took us around town to go find something else. He showed us several apartments and really listened to what we were looking for. He also stressed the importance of not rushing in, and insisted we take a walk around the neighborhood and get a feel for the area. Unlike some of the other brokers we had worked with, he was trying to find us a home, not just unload his cheapest least desirable apartment on us because he could see how desperate we were. Finally he brought us to a place that we absolutely fell in love with. It was the Thursday before the 4th of July. We needed to move in asap, and David and the Lang Realty made all the phone calls, faxes, and arrangements. 24 hours later we were unloading the Uhaul in our new place on a holiday weekend.
