I was really hoping that I could write a good review about this place but unfortunately I cannot. I saw a posting on Zillow by Matt and I went to view that apartment on Thursday. Upon viewing the apartment with my boyfriend I decided to pay the $200 application fee and $500 deposit in cash (which I thought was sketchy). My boyfriend told him that he just started to establish his credit before we paid the fee and deposit but still told us we can apply. He also told us that he will tell us the decision the following day. On Friday, I followed up and there still was no decision on the apartment. He said he checked my credit and mine was good and my boyfriend's credit was on the low side. We already explained the situation before we even applied. He then told me to follow up two days later on the weekend. I followed up on Sunday and Monday and still no answer. He was only giving me updates when I asked him for them. My main pet peeve with him was that he did not ANSWER THE PHONE most of the time! That was very unprofessional and made me nervous as a client that paid him in cash. On Tuesday, he texted me and told me that I did not get the apartment because my boyfriend's credit was too low. That made me frustrated because we discussed the credit score before we applied. If it was too low, then that should have been communicated from the beginning. I feel like I wasted my money and time. At that point I wanted my money right away. He told me to send an email to get my $500 deposit back. I asked for the address and I called him to let him know I was on my way. I was under the impression that he would meet me at Zuz Realty. Upon arrival, the office is closed and there was one man there that could not help me. Matt told me to speak to David (the boss) but he was not there. The man that was in the office told me that David stepped out and that he would be back. He did not even have a contact number for him. I waited in the office for about 2 hours and no one showed up and I waited in the cold for about 30 minutes. I must have called Matt over 30 times and he did not answer. Fortunately, on my way back home I was able to receive my deposit back via PayPal. While I am happy that I received my deposit back, I do not appreciate the unprofessional and nasty behavior that was displayed by Matt. Please be warned! read more

TERRIBLE company and experience!!!! First off, these people don't care about your time, money, needs, or anything what so ever. I applied for an apartment with these scammers. Was told there was a $150 application fee which was brought down to $100, although NYC has made it illegal to charge over $20 dollars for application fee. They take my money, plus $500 for a holding deposit. I call, call, and call with most calls being missed or returned with a runaround, half a$5 explanation of why my application is taking so long without saying I wasn't approved.. 3, as In THREEE weeks go by with them holding onto my money and me having to call them multiple times a week to get an update. These people are prejudice scammers that are only interested in receiving that $100+ application fee and claim to be people of faith. If you are not of the chosen group stay far away as that was the real issue here. After asking about my deposit being returned she had the nerve to say she could keep it to find me "another apartment" and to offer a "TLC" apartment that needed 3000$+ of work to kitchen and bathroom like I'm that desperate and need them. It is a literal shame that people PLAY with others housing which is a human right, especially when you are a hardworking and honest person. I worked with Avi Gold to get an apartment in Brooklyn. Unfortunately, he told me a day later after viewing and putting a deposit on the apartment that someone put their application in before mine. NO BIG DEAL. However, on the day I viewed the apartment; I left a deposit which he said would be refundable. This was not the case. I requested the refund 3 times and never heard back from him. Initially, he was super responsive to my messages. However, once he got my money, I never heard back from him. I had to reach out to my bank to get this all sorted out. I would never recommend this place or us them again. They have crooks working for them. read more

I did not work with the staff at Zuz Realty, but this review is specifically for Mr. Matt Hershkowitz, who is a broker for Zuz. I cannot emphasize enough how easy and direct Matt made the whole process of finding our apartment. His communication was direct, consistent, and professional, and he delivered on everything he said and then some. 2 year lease, was able to get a slightly lower rent than initially advertised, and we were able to get the keys a little bit ahead of the lease start date. I will update this review with more details later, but I had to put something down initially. I lived in an apt rented out to me by Sam for one year. The first thing I noticed was the apt being kept with old things with expirations dated back to 2013, not to mention uncleanliness all around. I bit my tongue, cleaned up, and continued to make my home livable. Eventually there were more issues with appliances, one being the oven knob falling off. When I addressed this issue to Sam, he simply placed a knob from a completely difference appliance so that it was possible to turn, but the dials were not aligned. This could have caused a fire, since temperatures were not visible. The fridge needed repairing as well, and it took two separate occasions for Sam to finally replace it with a working one. Now, these are issues that I guess are common. One that really made me uncomfortable and I addressed Sam about very upset was that he and his other co-workers would enter my home unannounced and with their personal keys. There was not an ounce of respect when I verbalized this to them, just a smirk which gave me the idea that this was actually done on purpose. We were living there, being two young women and felt very uncomfortable. I also don't think if I was a man that I would feel differently. They would barge into our apt as if we were animals. I've never written a review for any establishment, and with my experience with Zuz I felt that it was necessary. They rented me a place with repairs IN CONTACT. Repair 2 broken windows, fix broken fire alarm and clean the apartment before move in (there was trash everywhere). The day we got the keys, it was a mess, we found mold, the windows were still broken and one didn't close. (At all, full access to the apartment) The door to the outside rattled, could easily be broken into and the toilet wouldn't flush. We told the landlord and he refused to repair what was in the lease. Our realtor didn't help. And said our option was to break the lease. We were expecting a foster child within the week so we had no choice. We had the keys for a few days, and had to back out. The realtor kept our 5k. Refused to give our money back even though the terms of the lease weren't met. The owner also kept our 5k move in costs too. Neither showed up to small claims. My roommate and I worked with Avi Gold from zuz realty. Horrible experience. He's very aggressive and impatient. That was a red flag i noticed from the moment i initially called to view the apartment, but we continued thinking "hey, maybe he's having a bad day". Once we met avi to view apartment, the apartment he showed us wasn't what we saw on street easy. Another red flag. Yet we continued because avi told us the apt that was on street easy was smaller. Avi was responsive and cooperative up until he got paid his brokers fee. Once he received his payment (he insisted on cash), he stopped responding. I later found out he went on vacation a day or two after he got his money. When I finally got in contact with him, He gave me a cell # and said it was a coworker. Turns out it was his boss, David. David was a bit more easier to work with but still a headache. Between David and Avi, they told me the most lies I've ever heard in my life. All deposits and fees were paid promptly, yet we didn't move in until 8 days AFTER the official Move in date. I was extremely upset because i had to leave my previous apartment same day as the move in date so i was without a home for over a week. Homeless. The apartment wasn't even fixed up until the day prior to move in date. I called and texted non stop and I received nothing but lies and run-around stories. These people are hard to get in contact with once they get paid. No progress was made until I actually made a trip to their office and spoke with david face to face. Keep in mind, zuz realty and building management (super sketchy, you can't find them on google) received all payments an entire month in advance. And no, the payments made to zuz realty are non refundable. When we did finally receive the keys to the apartment for move in, the renovations were rushed and not complete (they had a crew of 3-4 laborers working 12 hour shifts for 3-4 days). Even the floors wasn't finished (top dark coat was removed and not replaced. Scuffs and deteriorating wood through out). To this day, the floors are not complete. I noticed most of the bad reviews are from people of color. I won't play the race card but its disturbing information all people should take note of. This review is actually a brief summary of my horrible experience. If I were to get into details, this review would easily be a 20 minute read. We worked with Simcha at Zuz and could not be more happy/relieved by his attentiveness and follow-up during our apartment search! After spending a few full days of viewing apartments (and being overwhelmed, especially as we have never lived in NYC), my husband and I found a listing on StreetEasy for an apartment in our price range and one of the neighborhoods we most desired to live in. We contacted Simcha Smith, the broker listed with the apartment, who responded promptly asking a few basic questions and setting up an appointment to view. Within the hour, we were already at the apartment-- and loved it! After asking a few questions, we submitted an application and put down a deposit. We had a unique financial/credit situation as I'm in school and my husband recently moved from outside the country. Simcha walked us through all the documents that we would need and even though we were missing some, he assured us that the documents we had in their place would be acceptable and what each bit of information is used for. He honestly and at length addressed any questions/concerns that we had with the apartment, even telling us about the landlord and building specifically. Throughout the application process, Simcha responded immediately to any questions/concerns that we had and updated us on the progress of our application, often before we asked. He never pressured us and always took the time to answer our questions fully. He even patiently waited while I meticulously read all of the fine print on the lease paperwork (which took quite some time!). We had one small maintenance question about the property and after receiving the keys, went to double-check if we had missed something on it. Simcha texted a few hours later to make sure that everything went smoothly, even though technically his job was done after we had signed. If we end up moving, we'd definitely ask Simcha to assist again. He was by far the most considerate, communicative, supportive, and efficient broker we met along this journey. An employee of zuz realty named Shaya Walter refused to refund me a $500 deposit when I turned down the apartment offer prior to selling the lease. Shaya Walter then sent me a fraudulent pdf file where he placed my signature on a form stating the deposit was not refundable if the application was approved. This goes beyond shady retail practices into felony fraud. The reason I turned down the apartment in the first place was because Shaya Walter was evasive, did not answer questions clearly, and provided a lease agreement with no actual information regarding the lease itself. We had been talking for weeks before we came up so the realtor knew exactly what we wanted and was supposed to line up some places for us to look. I actually worked with Zuz Realty almost exactly a year ago, but I am looking for apartments again, which has reminded me how unpleasant and frustrating my experience with them was. We answered a streeteasy post that was labeled no fee. I honestly don't remember the name of the man who showed us the apartment. He showed us a 2 bedroom apartment in the building that had recently been renovated and then showed us the 3 bedroom apartment that we were interested in. It was in the process of being renovated, but he guaranteed us that the renovation would be complete by September 1st. It was around August 8th. We paid a nonrefundable $400 for credit checks. Only after we paid that fee did the man showing us the apartment tell us that there was a broker's fee. He also told us that we couldn't get our $400 back. We should have just walked away, and lost the $400, but even with the fee the apartment was within our budget so we just stuck with it. The day that we were supposed to sign the lease Simcha (he introduced himself as Sam) contacted us and told us that they actually weren't sure the renovation would be complete on time and we may not be able to move in until the 4th. They ensured us that we would have a space in the building to store all of our belongings and we wouldn't be charged rent for any days that we weren't living in the apartments. We didn't mind staying with friends for a couple days, so we still signed the lease and paid the fee. I don't exactly know what happened, but as of October 15th the renovation was still not finished and we ended up moving into a different apartment in a different building. We asked, but no one from Zuz realty helped us find the new apartment. We asked for our fee back, because they didn't actually help us find an apartment that we ended up living in, but they said that wasn't possible, because their job is to help us sign and lease and we did sign the lease. I'm not sure if anything they did was illegal, but I certainly wouldn't work with them again. I'm also not sure if the first guy we met with meant to mislead us by telling us a renovation would be complete when it actually wouldn't, or if he was just inexperienced, but either way I would strongly caution against working with this company. read more

WARNING: long analysis! It's interesting to see that I was introduced to Yelp by Zuz Realty (David specially) and a tool that could have potentially helped their business grow in many ways, is now hindering them in others. Here's my experience with them: Moved back to Brooklyn the first week in January 2012, found a Broker and moved into my apt. in March for a one year lease. Rental rate was $1050. Simple process fantastic price, and it only took 2months; how awesome, right!? WRONG!!! That could not be the furthest from the truth! The other reviews about Zuz are spot on but let me clarify some things, from my experience/perspective: Are they scam artists? I wouldn't go that far but what makes them appear "shady" is their horrendous communication, greedy behavior, poor follow up, limited partnering with properties and disorganization. So let's run down the list: Horrendous Communication: you will initially have some sort of lack luster chat (which feels very rushed) about the details of the kind of apt. your looking for, the date you need to move and then, things go downhill from there! After being clear on what you wanted, they will still present you with whatever they have without considering anything you discussed; which leads to my next point... Greedy Behavior: like any business or broker, their about the bottom line, "how much can I make from this deal"?! Nothing is wrong with that if you want to be successful making quick money and lose long term clients that can use you again or refer you to others. They will hike the rental price up because many times, building owners are working with multiple brokers and the brokers will try to get a higher paying renter so it's a better deal for them- i.e the owner is getting more then expected and broker is securing a better relationship with owner in hopes that the owner will begin to use said brokers pool of applicants over other brokers. So what happened to the renter's needs? Smh, your not considered! hence, my next point... Poor Follow-up: if making money off of you becomes complicated with the renter's budget, desired neighborhood, apt. features, credit etc., forget it! There is no daily or weekly follow up on the status of your application or apt. or leads. They will typically make you feel like they are doing YOU a favor so prepare to take many days off work running behind them because the onus is on YOU to STALK them with emails, calls and text on a daily basis and they will respond whenever they can or if they have something for you (i.e. potential money for them; otherwise, it's on to the next chase/renter).... They don't have a diverse pool of relationships with building owners and there is no structure on how they do anything in that office. Seems like all their partnerships with building owners are made while chit chatting over tzimmes and sufganiyah; a complete joke. Although I liked the wood floors and large windows in my place, it had many many issues and was broken into later. Guess I got what I paid for right?! Smh, moral of the story is, just say NO to these people. There are professional Brokers out there that will treat you like a client and not a check. read more

I came to a showing by Daniel to check out this apt in Midwood. Dan struck me as a honest- hardworking young man. He was kind enough to give me a ride home because it was pouring rain. I came home and went to Yelp to see what the genneral bublic thinks about Zuz realty. I was a bit suprised by all the negative reviews and I was kinda nervous pursuing the apartment, especially when the good faith deposit is $500 and the application fee is $250 for 2 people, which is a bit high in my opinion. I was nervouse about sending them $750 after seeing so many people calling them scammers... But again, I like the apartment and I like Midwood so much, and I was too tired of apartment hunting (I've seen 20 apts at this point) so I took a deep breath and sent them the money along with the online application. Spoiler alert: it went well, nobody got riped off. They came back to me the next day and we had a meeting with the landlord, David and Dan at Zuz realty office. Everyone was nice, professional, the office looks new and organized. Lease was signed and money changed hands immediately. All done within the next day after I saw the apt online. The whole process was really fast, easy and well worth the money. I requested to see if we can move in couple of days prior to lease start, David asked the landlord and he agreed, another plus for Zuz realty. Thank you for the extra mile! Since we moved in 5 days early, the apt is not yet ready and there are minor repairs needed so I guess I will update this review when all works have been done, but so far my experience with Zuz realty has been great! I definitely was skeptical of Zuz realty after reading some reviews, but I have to say, I'm glad we still took a chance. My boyfriend and I dealt with some VERY SHADY realtors in our quest to find the perfect apartment; we have stories for days about the crap we went through and the scams we thankfully avoided. Then, one day, we met Jay of Zuz realty at an apartment. Before meeting him in person, he was very quick with responding to emails. We found the apartment originally through nakedapartments, I believe. The one he showed us wasn't ideal, but he said there was another one available in the same building, but he didn't have the key for it, yet. He said the super would be back in an hour with the key. We had other apartments to see, so we left. Jay called back, as promised, and we asked if he could just take photos to send us so we didn't have to go all the way back. He not only sent us photos, but a walk-thru video, as well. Talk about customer service! We talked to him later and decided to just go view the property in person to make sure we liked it. He met us there, after negotiating the broker's fee and rent (very pleased with their flexibility and willingness to go down in price), we signed applications on the spot, and used a mobile payment service through Chase for quick fees and holding deposit. The next day he asks if we can come sign the lease the following morning. SUPER QUICK! The Zuz Realty office isn't the most glamorous office ever, but don't let that fool you. They seem to be a startup of sorts. We moved into our new apartment on June 15 and couldn't be happier. We LOVE it, love the super, love the area, sooooo pleased! Bottom line: Jay was fast with communication, very friendly and funny (great guy), accommodating, extremely helpful, and we would work with him again. read more

I was very happy with my Zuz Realty experience. While getting the keys to my new apartment with "Dream Renters Realty" I experienced insane racism, and sexism and ended up without an apartment, out $1000 for my movers, and a lease that was ending in 3 days. Needless to say it was an emergency. Zuz realty showed me an incredible apartment and I put down a deposit right away, though hours later I found out the apartment had been taken (I was infuriated but calm) they showed me apartments immediately after we got the news and found one in the same building as the original apartment. They work fast, and are great communicators. We got the apartment and all the payment handled just a day before we needed to move. Not only did we find a great apartment in the neighborhood I wanted, but we got a great landlord and management company as well. I am very thankful to Sam & his brother for working so fast and for treating me like a human being. This company is absolutely not legitimate or trustworthy. They showed me an apartment, made me wait to days to apply. Upon arriving at the office at the planned appointment time, it was sketchy and no one knew what was going on or was ready for us to submit our application. They attempted to change the price of the broker fee and rent and argued with us about what had already been established. One hour after applying and giving them a $400 deposit check, they contacted me and stated multiple people had already submitted applications. They promised me they would remove the check from their records and not cash it as we were not able to get the apartment and in the mean time we had found another. They cashed it the next day. They then avoided us for hours as we sat in their office that day, avoided writing the refund check and almost ruined our chances of getting our other apartment. Do not trust these people. Do not give them money unless they have guaranteed the apartment is still available. They are completely unorganized and irresponsible. read more

Pros. The upper level management came through when I really needed it. There is a guy named David there that is on point and really takes care of you. He did me a great service. Great job David. Cons. I must be honest, A few lower level people were inexperienced and told me what I needed to hear to close the deal. It ended up costing me more money in the long run. EX: Telling you its rent controlled when its not, and not having answers so making it up to keep interest. I paid for it when all the papers came. I am so happy that I met Rachel and the Zuz team. They are very pleasant and professional. It was such a delight doing business with them. I came to them through a referral from a friend. She told me about Mike. She automatically loved speaking to him on the phone about an apartment I was looking for. I was not sure what I was looking for. I was searching day and night for an apartment until she called me and said you have to reach out to them. Mike called me and starting sending me information on getting the apartment it worked out perfect. He then called Rachel who is such an amazing person and ethical as well. I spoke with her on the phone we connected like family. She made me so comfortable like I knew her for decades. The environment is so relaxing and comfortable to be around in the Zuz realty office. I did not want to leave. These guys are very good at what they do. I am glad I reached out to them to get me a pleasant apartment to live in. A few days later, at our request, he brought us back to the apartment we were considering, and patiently hung out for 45 minutes while we took measurements. I was looking for an apartment to move into in February and I didn't have to worry because Manny helped me find something within my budget and the process was extremely smooth I had previously had trouble finding an apartment because it was my first time renting and I couldn't get a serious realtor to help me find what I needed. Manny helped me get the application in and processed quickly. Two days later I went for an interview with the landlord, which was a little nerve racking but Manny was there to help me feel comfortable. We work with a great couple of realtors at zuz realty in Brooklyn. After being disappointment by other agents I called Zuz about an apartment my wife and I had seen online. It was gone but Emanuel started texting me addresses and within an hour we had several good matches set up for the next morning. The first place he showed us in Dimas Park was beautiful and my wife went from depressed to elated. We put In an application and deposit and after some fair negotiations had a deal. You will pay a broker fee for their better properties. Emanuel's boss, Sam closed the deal with a relaxed professional service. Nothing like car salesmen I have known. After closing they helped us get back to our new place for measurements and then called to thank us and congratulate us. I liked their focus and hard work on getting us a place that matched our needs. Their front office needs remodeling but that's the only constructive criticism I have. Best realty guys in Brooklyn! And I'll tell you why. So my husband and I have to move out by Jan 2016. Panic set in because every apartment we liked was "No pets" (which sucked because we have a dog). Then I found this one apartment in Park slope on trulia and I contacted zuz (who was the realty renting the apartment). While we didn't get approved for that apartment (since we didn't meet credit req or income)..they were willing to work with us and not let us throw away our money. Our realtor , Simcha, told us about more apartments that were bigger, closer to the trains and cheaper. At first I didn't really want to go farther than park slope but I said what do I have to lose? So we saw this beautiful apartment on Ave P. A 2bd! And with the price we got? Can't beat it. What made us love it even more: PETS ALLOWED! Definitely recommend these guys if you're looking for good deals or if you're like me (a recent grad who needs a guarantor). They're willing to work with you! read more

STAY AWAY, ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!! Mike is lazy and has no professional manners! He showed up late to a meeting with a landlord and was awful at communicating. After we closed on another apartment, they refused to refund my deposit via PayPal, which is how they took the deposit and how they told me it would be refunded. It was due to a "technicality in the system" according to Mike. He refused to respond to my emails and I'm STILL waiting on my deposit back. STAY AWAY!!!! read more

Good overall experience working with matt. I was able to see an apt rather quickly and process was smooth. I had good credit which I'm sure helped. But I felt the brokers fee was too high. Matt answered all my questions without me feeling rushed. He responded via text and calls promptly. But it was also challenging to communicate things I wanted fixed in apt but may have been issues on landlord end. All was fixed after my move In date but on the slower side. read more
