These guys are super easy to get along with. If there's something that's a problem, they're quick to get it handled. We had a pigeon issue on our terrace and with one call had deterrents put on the roof edge. Maintenance issues are handled same day if possible and there's not a lot of back and forth you have to do. It's just done. I'm loving my time in my apartment and will update the post as I go. 5/5 for me! read more

very rude! wouldn't recommend. not professional at all their units don't even come with air conditioning (basic human right)

Inhumane bunch of people. Berman Realty is a multigenerational family business (patriarch Joe & sons Marc and Stephen) who seem to have lost sight of what it means to interact with humans. (Stephen is friendly. The other two are deeply unpleasant and tyrannical.) They're very nice when they're getting you to sign, but this pivots quickly once you're a tenant. Unless you walk on needles around them (or even if you do), they'll easily get nasty with you in a totally unwarranted way. The apartments themselves are really not great - prewar and dated with minimal amenities. The heat was uncontrollably hot and uncomfortable (85 degrees in the winter with all my windows open) and very loudly hissing radiators. The tenant below me had a ceiling fan that made my bedroom sound like a washing machine. They took months to repair a very bad leak in my wall (the walls across the length of my entire apartment looked like they had shingles) because the building is on a single boiler. There was no laundry in the building, and I used the coin-operated laundry in the basement of another unit a block away. They offered and then rescinded my lease renewal and hounded me out of the apartment when I took too long to get my shoes out of the hallway. I look back and can't believe I paid that much to live in that dusty, moldy shoebox of an apartment. SO MUCH DUST even though I vacuumed every week. When I moved into the apartment I had serious allergies, and later on the allergies subsided but I would get sick much more frequently than I ever had in my life. For the amount of rent they charge, you shouldn't be living in a health hazard. read more

We rented from the Berman's for a few years. They were always fair, provided timely/effective maintenance, and respectful. I would rent again if in the market and highly recommend them. read more

I was lucky to rent an apartment in Park Slope 4 years ago with Berman Realty. Since then, they helped me to move to a different apartment in Park Slope twice, every time a better deal! All I can see from them regarding moving and maintenance of my apartment are professionalism, respect and kindness. It is a pleasure working with them, pleasure to live in well maintained apartment and deal with such a nice and reliable people. I highly recommend going to Berman Realty and stay in this wonderful neighborhood! read more

I highly recommend Berman Realty, they are exceptional landlords with beautiful properties. I had only positive experiences with them in my 4 years as their tenant. They were timely in response to any question and updated our appliances and re-tiled our bathroom when needed-- it's hard to find landlords like this, especially in NYC. For anyone moving to Park Slope, I couldn't recommend them more. read more

We've been renting from the Bermans for over 3 years and they have been great landlords - prompt with problems and resolution, and have kept to modest adjustments to rent despite a hot market. read more

Marc, Stephen and Joe are very responsive and helpful. They fixed all issues with the apartment immediately and are very available. They move very quickly to do everything fast. The rent increase offered was very reasonable and fair. They are not looking to price gauge. You are lucky if you have an opportunity to live in one of their buildings in Park Slope. read more

Definitely the best people I've ever rented from in my 10 years in New York. Efficient, thoughtful, thorough, professional and responsive. During my 3 year stay here, no matter what problem I had, from a slight leak in my skylight because of an unusually heavy downpour, to my toilet seat breaking because of normal wear-and-tear, it got fixed, no questions asked, within the day. We had a building blackout late one night because of construction a few streets down, and within 30min to an hour, Berman's electrician flew down to fix the problem. It was up and running within 2hrs. Their buildings and units are also some of the most beautiful, well maintained, and well-priced in the area. In terms of rent increases, they keep it to the bare minimum. A number of my friends have rented from the Berman's multiple times and all of us have only good things to say about them. I'll be sad to leave my unit this summer. I had a great 1 bed in a brownstone with an amazing skylight that was tranquil, beautiful, and steps away from the park. It was really a dream apartment. Only reason I'm moving is because my girlfriend wants to live in LIC, although I'm still trying to convince her we should stay in Brooklyn haha read more

The Berman's are - hands down - the best landlords I've had in 8 years of living in NYC. They are responsive and organized. And the apartments are gorgeous! Our 1 bedroom in Park Slope had a giant skylight, new cabinets, a gas stove, and a dishwasher. They are efficient and reachable and kind and transparent. Highly recommend. read more

The best landlord I've had in my life!! Marc was extremely responsive to maintenance requests, the leasing application was one of the simplest I'd been asked to go through, and the office was an absolute pleasure to work with. Truly, not a single negative thing that I can think of to describe this leasing experience. I couldn't recommend a realty office more than Berman realty. read more

I had a great experience renting from Berman Realty last year. The apartment and building were well maintained. Marc and everyone at the office was easy to get a hold of and responded quickly. Moving in and getting set up was clear and straight forward. Neighbors were all respectful and friendly. I would recommend renting from them, they were the best landlords I had in 10+ years of living in Brooklyn. read more

I've lived all over the US (and various countries) and NYC, and the Bermans are the best landlords I've ever had. The units are beautiful, and Park Slope is my favorite neighborhood in NYC. But the Bermans make the difference. They're very responsive, responsible, and diligent. They're also exceedingly honest and generous. I never doubted that they had my best interest in mind. read more

I've had a great experience renting with Berman Realty! I feel very fortunate to have happened upon them by chance and rented my first and only (so far) NY apartment with them. The renting process was efficient and clear, and my experience in the following (3+) years has continued to feel the same way. They are extremely responsive to any service requests and have been fair and reasonable all around. I'd say their service is excellent by NY standards and beyond. In addition, I love my apartment which is full of charm, and the building has obviously been (and continues to be) well-maintained. I truly love living in Park Slope, and my apartment and its great location is a huge part of that. There are so many parts of living in NYC that can feel hard, and I appreciate that renting doesn't have to be one of those things! read more

Rented with them for 4 years. Very professional and exceptionally responsive. Most of the maintenance calls were addressed the same day.

We had a clogged sink and called them and very quickly they sent someone to fix it. Similarly we had a leak in the kitchen faucet and they sent a plumber and fixed it pretty fast. read more

The Bermans made mine and my roommates' experience living in Park Slope great! We could always rely on them for a quick answer if needed, and they made our application process such a breeze when we first applied, which made it easy to renew our lease with them! read more

Berman Realty is the best spot to go to when apartment hunting in Park Slope. I've never had any issues when renting through them. It's always been a good experience. I rented through Marc Berman. There was no bs when looking at vacant spots like there can be with other management companies. He was very responsive to my emails and always available to help with anything in regards to the apartment. There is no better company to rent through. The apartments are lovely and the people you rent through are also great. read more

I rented a place from Berman Realty for the past three years and loved every minute of it. The unit I rented is only 5 minutes away from the local grocery store. Any maintenance issues are resolved the same day, and they follow up. The building is well maintained and safe. If you are looking for a place to rent in Brooklyn, and do not want to pay a broker's fee, I highly recommend taking a look at the properties under Berman Realty. read more

I lived in one of Berman Realty's properties for about 3 years, and to this day, they are still my favorite landlords. They're so open, thoughtful and quick to address any issues or questions. My apartment was well taken care of, and my neighbors were very nice and friendly. I only moved out because I was leaving New York. If they ever bought property in California, I'd be the first to move in! read more

My girlfriend and I actually ended up with an apartment directly through an owner, but I wanted to leave a review for Berman Realty because we had such a great experience with them. We met with Peter, who was immediately friendly when I first called them up. Peter drove us to see two different apartments, both in beautiful brownstones, and told us some stories about that part of Park Slope. He's been a realtor here for twenty five years, so he's got a lot of knowledge and experience with the area. In our short time with him, I got the sense that Peter and the rest of the staff at Berman (a few of whom we met briefly) are genuinely good, honest people. A lot of their listings are no-fee, since I believe they either own or manage a few brownstones, and the two apartments we saw were very nice at a reasonable price. If we hadn't lucked out and gotten our current apartment, we would have definitely signed for a place through Peter. And if or when we move again, we'll be calling him first thing. It's hard to find a realtor who you feel you can trust, but it's great when you do. read more

Berman really changed the game for our apartment search. My boyfriend and I were looking for a place in Park Slope, and we wanted to move in about 2 months so we figured we couldn't actually see an apartment that far ahead of time. However, in looking around, we actually found an apartment on craigslist that we really liked. When we called for a showing, we spoke with Marc at Berman Realty, as the place was owned by them. They were polite and helpful on the phone and we planned to see the place in a couple of days, just to get our feet wet. We met at their office, then walked over to the apartment. It is a family business and they all live in Park Slope, so they know the area very well. The apartment was in the heart of the Slope, in a beautiful Brownstone. We were shocked at how cute and nice it was inside as well, considering the low rent that fell nicely within our budget. We never felt badgered or pressured to take it, and he answered all of our questions patiently and let us look around for a little bit. We decided we wanted to apply back at the office, and the whole thing wrapped up in under 2 hours, with the lease signed and deposit in. Definitely not what we were expecting considering the NYC horror stories we'd heard (and lived)! Marc, and everyone in the office, was courteous, genuine, and down to earth, and we always felt like we were getting the honest truth, no scams or tricks at all. Oh, and the apartment had NO FEE, which was a delightful perk. We are very much looking forward to moving into our new home and having Marc as our landlord. Thank you, Berman! read more

Best landlord I've had in New York by far. The apartment was a great value and had no issues, and the Bermans are honest, friendly, and accessible landlords. Their glowing reviews are well-deserved. read more

The most civilized rental experience... in a city where renting is often quite uncivilized. So, this is my thank you note to the Bermans. I've been renting in NYC for 20 years, and my husband for 15... and we both agree that the Bermans are the best landlords we've ever had. They maintain the buildings so well that things rarely break, but when they do, they are on it immediately. I could email them that my faucet was dripping, and it would be fixed when I got home from work. They never skimped on heat. Most apartments have dishwashers. As far as I know, all buildings seem to have laundry and bike storage in the basement. In the 5 years I lived in one of their buildings, I think they repainted the hall/stairwell 4 times. When renewing leases, the increase was never unreasonable. They start you off at the going market value, but if you stick around a few years, you wind up under market. Oh, and not paying a broker's fee really helps. I really appreciated that they were a neighborhood family business, and very professional. I've dealt with landlords who were very nice, but it was not what they did for a living, so they didn't really know what they were doing. I've also dealt with large management companies located in some other borough, and it would be impossible to reach someone by phone to get an issue taken care of. It was a comfort having the Bermans' office right down the block, and knowing if I called or emailed, I'd hear back immediately. Sadly, we moved out of the neighborhood and away from the Bermans. We are homesick for the Bermans... there's no way to sugarcoat this: our new non-Berman building sucks. read more

Had a very positive experience with Berman realty. Any concerns or repairs about the apartment were addressed immediately. Communication was excellent and never had to wait an unreasonable amount of time to contact anyone at the agency. Flexibility to move in and out was amazing and got my security deposit back in less than a week! I would not hesitate to recommend this realtor and can honestly say they were the best landlords I ever had. read more

My wife and I rented two different apartments from Berman Realty from 2008-2012 before leaving NYC. To put it succinctly, they were fair, attentive to our maintenance requests, and courteous. We recommend them and would have continued to rent from them if we had stayed in Brooklyn longer. To elaborate, our rent was (from what we could tell) fair and competitive for prime Park Slope. It remained unchanged from 2008-10, and went up in $50-$75 increments the last two years, which seemed very fair considering the general increases everywhere else during that time. We had several, totally normal maintenance requests over the phone or via email during the four-year period. These were always responded to and handled promptly. Also, it's worth noting that the maintenance people (notably someone we interacted with several times named Michael) were awesome--fast, competent, and friendly. No bad experiences. Lastly, it's worth noting that it's a family-run business that has been in the neighborhood for decades (as far back as the 60's, I believe, maybe further). Joe and his sons Marc and Stephen are actively involved in managing their several properties on a day-to-day basis; 90% of the time you interact with them, the owners, directly. read more

Wow. Just signed a lease with the Bermans and could not be happier with how they've handled everything. Such clear and prompt communication. They are clearly great landlords - a family business of kind people who do right by their tenants. A gem in NY real estate. read more

If their manners on the phone are any indication, I would not want to do business with them.

I want to thank Stephen & Sandy of Berman Realty for the outstanding job they did renting a studio apartment in my building on Garfield Place. I've lived in a Berman building for two years, and the experience could not have been better, especially during the pandemic. The application process was quick and easy, and the entire team is quick to respond to any maintenance issues or questions. They often call back or send someone over within an hour, which is unheard of in New York! After years of dealing with management companies that are impossible to get a hold of and make everything impersonal, it was so great dealing with Joe, Marc and Stephen. My wife and I rented a one bedroom from Berman Realty for a little over two years and we have nothing but good things to say about them. For anyone looking to rent in Park Slope do yourself a favor and call them first for the following reasons... 1. Immaculately kept apartments and buildings. 2. Response to any questions or concerns are dealt with immediately ( and these were very minor in those two years+, I lost my keys and another time the laundry ate $1.25) 3.No ridiculous lease signing with bank statements, passports and records of off shore bank accounts. Just a trusty and inexpensive credit check. 4.They genuinely take pride in their business and that makes a world of difference as a renter. Thanks again Joe and Mark. You made our stay an enjoyable one! read more

Anytime a friend says they're looking for an apartment in Park Slope, I immediately recommend they contact Berman Realty. If you're feeling beaten down by NYC real estate, this place will renew your faith in humanity. Honestly! It's a family-run business, and it's so great to be able to just swing by the office and drop our rent check off to the Bermans. The entire family is wonderful and so incredibly helpful. Any issue we've had over the past two years (just minor ones like clogged drains) have been taken care of immediately on the day that we email them. Practically unheard of in NYC! Bonus? NO FEE! When we first looked at the apartment and decided to apply, Joe simply walked us back to the office to fill out the application. While apartment hunting I used to carry basically our full financial histories because typical realty agencies require insane documents to simply apply. Not with the Bermans! We paid $50 for the credit check which was then immediately refunded and then we signed the lease. I couldn't believe it was that easy. We plan on being in this apartment for years to come. It's such a gem! read more

I lived in a Berman building on Lincoln place for 2 years and could not be happier. Coming from a place where I had mice, roaches, and leaks in my apartment, all I could ever wish for was a responsive management and a well-maintained building. With Berman, I found exactly that. If the stove was broken, they replaced it the next day, if the water was not working, someone was there to check it out within the hour. I know this is hard to believe but in the two years I lived there, I literally had only TWO roaches and ZERO mice, and these are old buildings with beatiful character and charm! To be able to have a beautiful building without any of the issues associated with it is a miracle. Thank you Berman! read more

My wife and I had a great experience working with Berman Realty for renting apartments in Brooklyn on two separate occasions. We met with Sandra, who walked us through several options that met our criteria for a Park Slope apartment in our price range. Their application process was easy and transparent, and later on Marc, Stephen, and Joe were quick and helpful with any questions we had during the year. Our move in date coincided with the start of NYC's Covid lockdown restrictions in March 2020, but we always felt like management was easy to reach either by phone or email. Both my wife and I have worked with multiple New York realtors and landlords, and we could not recommend a better company to work with than the folks at Berman! read more

I've moved several times in my ten years in New York, but this has unquestionably been my best experience. The application process was quick, easy, and professional. Every time I've had any question or concern I'm so impressed with the immediate response time. The apartment is so beautiful and well maintained. When I moved in I was surprised to find the fridge and stove had been replaced with brand new units! Everything about this experience has been terrific. Hands down the best realtor and landlord possible. I didn't know it was possible to find a landlord who actually cared about the tenants' concerns--let alone one who goes above and beyond like Marc. Can't recommend highly enough. read more

Painless application process, certainly much easier than some of the other places I have rented with. Quick responses to repair requests and very easy to communicate with. Did not need to hound them to get something fixed as they are very conscientious about responding to tenants. Got my security deposit back promptly after moving out (under 30 days). No hidden fees, or nickel and diming. Great people to rent from. read more
