I'm hoping yelp doesn't have a character limit because I have a lot to say about my experience renting an apartment with Haley Sinopoli. I have spent the past month working with a dozen realtors/brokers trying to find an apartment and the process could only be described as hellish. Between unanswered requests to view units, being sent apartments exceedingly out of budget in locations we weren't interested in, to scammy requests for various deposits and pressure tactics, this move was shaping up to be the most discouraging in my 3 years of living in NYC. From the jump, Haley was responsive and transparent - I've never waited longer than 15 minutes for a response from her regardless of the time of day. She was incredibly accommodating - providing measurements, negotiating lease duration, and an early move in date. Most of all, she was incredibly patient and helpful - coordinating an application between 4 people plus guarantors is no simple feat and she navigated it like a pro. I'm telling you as someone who has spent thousands of dollars on brokers fees, I've never worked with someone as receptive to our needs/concerns as Haley. Give this girl a raise now!!! read more

I don't recommend Haley Sinopoli. She rushed my tour and seemed very pre-occupied. I'm very reasonable and get that realtors are busy during rent season, but I basically had to guide myself through the unit. Also, after I submitted and paid for an application fee, I followed up with her the next day saying I had been approved for another place but prefer the unit she found me and just want to know when I can hear back from management. She was immediately snippy with me. Once I clarified to her that her unit was my top choice (and just need to know whether I will be approved before I turn down the other spot), she doubled down that I needed to be positive before she submits my app. I asked why we paid an app fee if it's just not getting submitted regardless (I've never had that experience with realtors - Like what's the point of paying an application fee if the realtor isn't going to submit the application??). And she took my question offensively and said it wasn't a good fit and that she felt her response to me was reasonable (which sure, but I feel like me clarifying about the app fee is also reasonable). It's a shame because I liked the unit, but just wish I had found a better realtor. She had a bad attitude. read more

Unfortunately my wife and I used this company to find an apartment. The first two apartments fell through somehow, even after we paid a deposit. The third apartment was supposed to be ready on move in date. A day before they pushed it back 2 weeks ( where are we to go). At this point the broker just checked out and started sending us to unlocked apartments. When we find the apartment we want, evergreen has "lost" our deposit and needs another. After a week of arguing they "find" our old deposit and transfer it to new landlord they represent, CW Realty. CW are slumlords who will raise your rent 25 percent in the middle of a pandemic. We called and emailed them many times months before our lease as up to negotiate. CW waited until 3 weeks before our lease was up to tell us of the increase. Illegal, but what can we do? The management of this place is horrible, and I do not recommend Ridgewood's newest gentrifier, evergreen realty read more

This place is a scam. We have been waiting 3 months for our good faith deposit to be refunded and the process on how we're supposed to submit a request keeps changing and still no money. The broker we worked with, Chaya, told us that our deposit would be fully refundable when we decided (within 24 hrs) to not apply to the apartment - oh yeah because it was also an illegally renovated building that the neighbors told us to steer clear of at all costs. We ran across an ad for a 2 bedroom in Brooklyn late one evening, and I messaged Debby inquiring about it--fully expecting to hear from her the next morning. She not only responded right away--but spoke with me on the phone within minutes!! She gave me all of the deets on the apartment, and even offered another apartment to consider as well. Within the next few days, my boyfriend went to view both apartments and we ended up closing on a nice 2 bedroom that we're so excited about! Was made countless promises on when deadlines for completion of projects would be done and those promises were not kept. The broker was very slow to respond to any questions. Had to reschedule initial move in 3 days because broker did not meet with me to give the keys. Held keys because she said the apartment was being cleaned prior to move in. We moved in and construction debris and residue was everywhere- the apartment was never cleaned prior to move in. Huge disappointment. read more

Extremely disappointed. I moved into a new building in Ditmas Park after a showing through one of their agents. The building turned out to have multiple issues that they did not disclose -- including no cooking gas connection, a leaking bathroom ceiling, and no certificate of occupancy. The apartment was not finished and with poor construction. It lacks a closet that was promised on viewing, has stains from construction, no working ventilation for the bathroom or kitchen, non-functioning locks, a disconnected non functioning dishwasher. No amenities (gym, laundry room, etc.) are present as was promised at the showing. A notice has now been posted near our front door from FDNY for the owner to appear in court due to violations on their end...I could go on but you get the idea. The realty rented these apartments despite knowledge of these issues and continues to show units in the building despite people living here since August 1 (It's now September 20) without being able to cook anything, among all the other problems. Save yourself the headache and rent through someone else. read more

HORRID!!!!! So a broker by the name of Barry contacted. First he wanted to show us an apartment on cortyelou ave but after realizing our credit wasn't so good he said he would show us a apartment at 51 covert st in bushwick. We set the appt for 700 he got there at 745. The gate was busted, there was a bike parked inside and the apt wasn't finished. But he said we could get it, because him and the landlord were partners, he called the landlord up, his name is Mark, and the landlord wanted to meet us. Fine. The next day we go. He then has is waiting outside in the rain for 45 min. He asked us did we like it blah blah blah. He said we have to pay our electric and that the people that lived in the building now, hasn't paid in a year and didn't know how everything was still on. And then try to persuade me to turn on everything before i moved in. He said he would send over the lease in 20 min and never did. This went on for a month back and fourth with Barry and Mark. Nothing never happen just alot of nothing. My partner will send the lease, my assistant will send the lease, ill send the lease. Just horrible, then he had the nerve to send my the app and when I called him he said who's this. Lol. FUCKING joke. And then called me the next to say he was sending the lease over in 5min. My boyfriend and I are looking for potential apartments to move in to. We found many we adored on streeteasy one in particular popped out to me more and I contacted the listing agent. Gary sent me and email and was very enthusiastic to get me to see the place the same day. I informed him that my boyfriend and I aren't able to see the apartment til 5:30- 6pm and even gave him the financial information at his request in his words "so we don't waste anyone's time". Everything was a go from there. The fault was truly mine, but definitely unprofessional on his part. I should have contacted him again to make sure he'd be arriving. My boyfriend and I showed up at 5:30pm on the dot and waited til 6. No one showed up. I called and didn't get an answer. We waited 5 more minutes and received a call and the person (Gary) said he won't be able to make it. I contacted you since 9 in the morning and you couldn't have the decency to shoot me a quick email to let me know you wouldn't be able to make it. 7 hrs. Anyway.. we wasted our time driving there to a no show. I thought we were trying to not wasted each other's time. How about you don't tell people you have time today and not show up. He was knowledgeable about the apartment we were touring and as soon as we showed interest in moving forward, the entire process took less than 48 hours. I want to start by saying we had a terrible experience with a specific agent, so your mileage with this place may vary. The head of the company seemed like a great guy. Our experience started out when we went to meet the agent for an apartment visit in Brooklyn, at which point we received a call saying he would not be able to make it and instead gave us the code to enter the building (which is not allowed). The apartment was great so we decided to look past it and apply for the apartment. Between the three prospective tenants two of us had bad credit, but had guarantors on the application to ensure our acceptance. We then spoke to the agent who told us that the owner of the apartment was concerned about our application for two reasons. The first was that we had "Great income but no money in the bank" and the second was "Really bad credit", to which I replied "Why does our credit matter if we have guarantors on file?", the agent replied by saying "Guarantors are only useful if you have NO credit but not if you have BAD credit". At the time I believed him because we had no reason not to. He convinced us that in order for application to be accepted (due to the bad credit) we would need to increase the rent by $150 a month as well as pay the ENTIRE 15% broker's fee on a NO FEE apartment. We thought something was fishy so we decided to do a little research online and we were able to find the phone number for the owner of the apartment. After speaking to the owner we discovered our application was great, and the 'bad credit' excuse that was a complete and utter lie that he used to bargain us into paying more. In addition, the owner was planning on paying the broker the entire 15% broker's fee, clearly indicating the broker was attempting to collect double the broker's fees from both us and the owner. Using this information we were able to waive the broker fee (after many hours of arguing over the phone). The agent never showed up to the lease signing, and we never met him face to face. Be careful with this place. read more

He was incredibly thorough and transparent about the listings he showed me in a stunning, brand new building. My schedule was not ideal and he had zero issue showing me listings on a late Friday evening. He reached out after I submitted a request for more information on an apartment, and when I replied with my specifications and move in date (Sept. 1), he was extremely rude. He accused me of wasting his time, as I should have known to communicate with him only 2 weeks-1 month in advance. I don't typically write reviews, but I am still so shocked by his language that I felt the need to post this. Very demeaning and overall just plain mean. When I do continue my search (in August - thanks, Charles!), I will absolutely make sure that it is NOT through evergreen realty. (We all have tough days and deal with people that don't know the ins and outs of our jobs... but if you can't extend basic curtesy to potential clients, you should not be in the customer service industry.) read more

I have never had such a poor experience with a realty company in my entire life. My first issue has to be the lack of experience and professionalism at Evergreen. Our realtor himself was not there when we showed up to a scheduled meeting to put an interest deposit down and fill applications. Another realtor helped us out and put her name on our file, which looked sketchy as well, but we just wanted to move in as soon as we could, so we let her handle our account. After our paperwork was in, she dropped contact with us for days, ignoring calls and emails until we eventually got a hold of a third realtor, who had absolutely no idea what he was doing. When I hire a professional for a service, I shouldn't have to explain legal terms and definitions to them. The guarantor process especially was mishandled, with Evergreen's misinterpretation of what it even was, taking days to respond and asking US questions about what a guarantor is. At this point, it's been about a week, and we need a place to live in 10 days, so we keep pushing. Days go by while we wait for paperwork to process, and we sit on our hands while they drag their feet. Every day or two they ask for another piece of paperwork we already handed in, or electronic copies of papers we handed in hard copies of. It's 3 days until our lease ended, and we still haven't signed a new lease, so we're worried. We get a call late at night on the 3 days until homeless that our file was rejected, we can't comprehend why, we have income, great credit, and rock solid renting history. We asked why we were rejected, and if there's anything we could clear up, since it was obviously a mistake, but our realtor doesn't even know why. We keep asking, ask him for updates, we're willing to double our deposit just to get this apartment, and our realtor goes cold on us. We immediately went to a previous realty company we used and were able to sign immediately with zero issues. The next time I heard back from Evergreen was when I went to pick up the deposit, and they garnished it by $375 for "application fees." The application listed a $75 fee, so we expected to lose $150 between the two renters, but they treated my non-adult brothers as applicants and our unnecessary guarantor as one as well. Feeling robbed, after walking out I realized they post-dated the check! Evergreen Apartments is full of fresh-faced children, still wet behind the ears and playing Realty Company together. They bought themselves a $3,000 Mercanti table to feed their egos as the centerpiece in their office adorned with cardboard boxes a and mismatched, overpriced furniture. They will take your money, maybe give you an apartment, and give you worse customer service than a Burger King. Do yourself a favor and find a real company to work with. read more

What a Great company. My experience with Evergreen was definitely a spectacular one. The agent that I dealt with was very professional and caring. He accommodated us with everything that we requested. I moved to NY from out of state and before arriving to our appointment he provided us with a video tour of the apartment, which my roommate and I were very appreciative for. We didn't want to travel to NY just based off of pictures alone when our commute would be 90 minutes or more. I had an overall good experience with this company. When it was time to sign our lease the owner Max mad this process very smooth sailing. He was very polite and Friendly. He even offered to reduced our application fee. That kind gesture alone would bring me back to this company next year when my lease is up. I have referred several people to them and everyone was extremely satisfied. Realtor showed us apartments in a building with no certificate of occupancy, gas set up, or ventilation but did not disclose these were not set up. The agent that showed the unit kept telling us how well they know the management/ownership of the building and how they work with them a lot. He also mentioned how responsive they are... this supposedly great management company has not called back after numerous calls and emails since moving in. Furthermore, the realty tried to get me to sign a document stating I verified I saw appliances were in the apt and working during the lease signing when I did not see that at the viewing. I reached out to an agent named Gary for a listing I seen on StreetEasy. The listing wasn't available anymore, however Gary promptly worked with me to determine my apartment needs. By the next day he had a few options for me to check out. My roommate was currently out of town so I was hunting for the both of us. But Gary worked with me and answered every question I had. He wasn't pushy and actually worked with our needs. He didn't try to push what he "wanted" us to have. Low and behold a week later, we signed a lease for a gem, brand new apartment in bed stuy. Totally great experience, but only because of one broker in particular named Barry Thaler. My roommate and I used FOUR different apartment hunting apps to find a new place together. We saw a bunch of rentals and nothing looked or felt right. At some point, we stumbled onto an apartment listed by Evergreen Realty and by chance, Barry contacted us to show it. He was professional but also really personable and easy-going. Ultimately, we decided that apartment was not for us but we did not want to deal with any other brokers after meeting him. We told him specifically what we were looking for and he said he would find some listings to show us from Evergreen's roster. We saw a number of apartments with him and the experience was just awesome. We never felt pressured or "sold to". When he showed us an apartment, he'd review all the main points and then stood back and left us alone to explore and talk amongst ourselves. He was there to answer questions IF we had them. He never acted like a salesman and didn't waste our time with apartments that didn't have the criteria we wanted. Actually made the excruciating process of looking for an apartment enjoyable. He efficiently scheduled back-to-back showings with us over the course of several days. Within two weeks we were signing a lease on an amazing apartment with everything we wanted. All said, I can only imagine how difficult it must be to be an agent in this industry, especially in NYC. It seems cutthroat as hell with a lot of pressure to close the deal coupled with lots of inconsiderate, flaky, immature and jerky clients. It must really do a number on you. I suspect it's why every broker we interacted with was a character study: super pushy, weirdly defensive, over-eager, dismissively aloof. Finally we got one called 'courteous and competent'. Seriously, if you need to move, seek this realty out and ask for him specifically. It was a small miracle to find a gem like Barry and I would recommend him a thousand times over. read more

I was very unlucky and I had to deal with Levi. Unit was "priced" $2,999. Emailed me on Friday and I provided all the information needed for Monday's tour. When I get there, he asks again for all my information in public I provided in the email. Worst yet, after the tour of 2 units in the building, the price of the wanted unit is now $3,500! I tell him that the website didn't say that and he gives some excuse and I need to act fast before the unit is gone. While I try to call my fiance regarding the new information, he pressuring me to make a decision soon. After a phone call, he starts getting passive aggressive and acts like I'm getting loud with him when I confronted him about the the difference in price. The next day, I see another unit in the building that is "$2,999". Levi is a scammer and a dishonest person. Wasted 3 hours going and leaving there. If the unit price info was just wrong then he had over 2 days to email me about the price. read more

on july 13th our landlord told us to move out by august first. we were looking for a place that was a bit over our budget but we looked past it since we were in a rush to move in and we were working with a broker we've worked before so we trusted them. WRONG MOVE. little did we know, the landlord was working with them. the day before moving, we asked them if our application had the chance of being accepted. they said yes. so we were confident. the morning of moving, the broker told us that we were accepted but they couldn't find the keys. later that day, we found out from another broker, Max, that the landlord didn't accept us. the only way he could take us is if we gave them FOUR MONTHS RENT. so while we were panicking, we figured to store our stuff in a storage unit and rented a hotel room. we were devastated. we didn't take the apartment and our deposit were still with them. two days after the ordeal, Max called us back and told us that we can get the apartment if we gave them $7000 instead. we said no since we found another place. we asked him that we we're gonna take the deposit back. this greedy rat told us that his venmo limit was reached for the day so he's not going to be able to give it. we then asked if we can get a check instead. to which he asked us to go to their office. so we did. i don't know how long read more

If only I knew a thousand words that could accurately describe how awesome Haley is and how amazing it was to work with her! I am leaving my previous lease early because I was extremely unhappy with the landlord and the condition of the apartment, even when it started off feeling like a dream to be in that area and the apartment. But it was overpriced and ridiculously hard to get things fixed. With that being said, I was VERY picky and selective with regards to finding a new place. I also was moving from Manhattan to Brooklyn so I wasn't familiar with the different neighborhoods at a baseline. Just knew to avoid super shady areas. Being based in Brooklyn, Haley knew a lot about the different neighborhoods and when I told her my preferences for the area (quiet but not too far from actual civilization) she was able to recommend different options I liked. I was also picky about price relative to amenities. I paid $1,400 for a single bedroom in a three bedroom apartment with only a washer/dryer in the unit and updated kitchen but not much else... (good size though). So I wanted to definitely pay less but get more bang for my buck in Brooklyn. Now with that said, Haley took me up, down, and across Brooklyn to find me my perfect building. Of course each listing she showed me had both pros and cons, but she was extremely patient and understanding as I denied one place after another over the course of two weeks. I even made her work harder to negotiate with landlords before I would even consider signing any leases. Even when I picked a place and the landlord wouldn't budge on rent and I bailed, she got my deposit back and we went back on the hunt. She was also super cheerful and easy to talk to- not awkward silences and stoic demeanors like many of the other agents. They treat you like they don't really care about what you want or don't, and want you to decide then and there and if not they don't care anymore cuz they are on to the next person they can push. Haley wasn't like that. She really made me feel like she cared about my happiness (and she actually did!) and fought tooth and nail for me for all the places I wanted more info on. Again, super picky and wanted the whole world on a platter! Especially since I wanted a two year lease. Suffice it to say, she was able to find me a beautiful new construction with all the amenities I wanted and more! I did have to give on paying for heat, but I'll take avoid taking long hot showers haha (it's summer anyway). The location is also not the most quiet on the outside (off a highway) but the building is completely sound proof when the windows are closed, so I love that she considered that! The natural lighting was also AMAZING and perfect since not having natural lighting raises the utility bills. Overall, even with my late night questions at 1am, to showing me 3+ places in a row, to going back and forth with landlords to fit into my budget better, to refunding my deposit and not even requiring me to re-submit it to a new application, to being able to keep my application as a master one and helping me polish it to a T- she went above and beyond any agent I have ever met- even as a person in general! She loves her job and she loves helping people find their new home. It's hard to find people who care about the job and the people they serve in addition to the money (let's be real, no one can say they don't care about the money, especially in NYC). I've written a lot of reviews in my days, but I have never written one that was basically an essay. I just had such an amazing experience with her and the company overall that the words are just pouring out of me. SHE IS GREAT AND ADORABLE AND CARING AND PATIENT AND SWEET!!! But don't think she won't put her foot down in a split second on your behalf when a landlord trying play you. Again, this is barely enough words or adjectives to describe my appreciation for her and the joy I feel at moving into my new place next month (just to brag, it's a two bed with A/C and heater in each room, amazing deep soaking tub, updated electric appliances, TRASH CHUTE!! Oh yeah no more outdoor trips and rats!!, a balcony, amazing glass/sound proofed windows, washer/dryer IN UNIT, rooftop lounge, first floor business lounge, basement game room, AND garage for less than $1,200 per person...!!!!). I have lived in Brooklyn for over 12 years - rental costs and apartment offerings have astronomically and drastically changed. I spent 2 months deeply searching for an apartment. Got scammed out of money from a sleazy broker, hired another broker who was amazing but the one apartment I wanted on her list had an extremely OCD landlord. Despite my stellar credit, outstanding payment history and great job, it wasn't just about moving into any place, I needed a great apartment that would cater to most of my needs and be safe and secure for my teen. Six days prior to my official move out date, I had a viewing ( 1 of 12 that day) with a realtor from Evergreen. His name is Phil and he changed my life. The initial apartment I went to view, I hated. I absolutely did not like the tiny space, no closets or block. No fault of his own. He was my last appointment for the night and I was about to be in tears until he asked if I had some time because he had two options to show me based on my needs. I took the leap of faith and also he made me feel comfortable to TRUST HIM. Phil drove me to this beautiful 4-story walk up in East Flatbush. This was it. It was perfect. Despite being disappointed so many times, I intimated to him then and there, that this was my home. Phil was patient, attentive, knowledgeable and on my side. He took me to the other building a block away, BRAND NEW BUILDING, 8 stories, elevator, full amenities, gorgeous. However, I made a deposit on the apartment that spoke to my spirit. It's a BRAND NEW FLOOR. Brand NEW EVERYTHING. HUGE CLOSETS. AMAZING LANDLORD. GREAT BLOCK next to a school and close to trains and buses. Thank you Max and Evergreen for helping me successfully sign my lease. But above all, thank you Phil for listening to my needs and exceeding my expectations. For those searching for an apartment, words of advice: Yes you can TRY TO either hire or rely on a realtor to do all the work but that's not feasible, especially in NY and especially if you are not a 1%. Having terrible credit can cause delays for you. You realtor is working on your behalf but ultimately the landlord makes the decision. YOU MUST DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH, HAVE REALISTIC GOALS AND LET THE UNIVERSE DO IT'S WORK. Oh...and it pays to be a good person. KARMA IS REAL! I can't speak for any other realtor in this company but only the two that I had the pleasure of working with. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND PHIL. ASK FOR HIM. TELL HIM JAMIE SENT YOU!
