I found out about "Roomeze" by using the "Roomi" app. One of the people I requested to message on there, happened to work for Roomeze. This was the first time I've heard of Roomeze and being that it was very close to the date I had planned to move to the city, it was very convenient. Brittany Rose, the roommate match maker who I was in contact with throughout the entire process was helpful and available throughout the process. She answered my calls/texts and questions that I had at various times of the day and kept me updated with the files and documents I needed to have for the landlord. You can tell that she truly wanted to help me anyway she could, which was especially nice since I am not a NY native. She was great, however I believe that the Roomeze businesses as a whole (not specifically blaming Brittany or any of the reps I talked to) , partner landlords, and guarantor company's should be on one accord and follow a semi standard procedure that states things such as; what the three parties offer, the things that can make you less qualified for getting a room, the exact or rough estimate of a cost and explanation of certain "fees" and items that you would need to move in, etc. Instead of adding on fees and documents at the last minute for reasons that some of the reps (from either party) couldn't explain or make a correlation of the fees to the services previously offered. read more

Pretty nightmare experience with this "roommate matching service". I was in a situation where I needed a new place to live in less than a month and didn't have a lot of options. I was so relieved when I thought I had found an apartment that was exactly what I wanted, but not so thrilled when the agent sprung the Roomeze literature on me after the showing. I've always been skeptical about companies like Roomeze in NYC and after the experience I've had, I wish I listened to my gut and looked elsewhere. Firstly, their roommate matching "process" is non-existent. You're completely going in blind to 12 months with strangers just like you'd be if you were moving into any other usual Craigslist apartment. They show you some pictures and bios of the random people they've thrown you together with and that's it. Other than that you won't actually meet the strangers that will be your roommates for the next year until you're all sitting in the Roomeze office while your agent hovers over you pressuring you all to sign the lease. That brings me to the second most important point. The Roomeze process. All you need to know is that once you put in your deposit, you're screwed. Once they have your deposit, Roomeze dangles it over your head to coerce you into doing anything they want because their terms and conditions will prevent you from ever seeing that money again if you disagree with anything they force you into. My experience was, after my agent suddenly bumped my rent up $25 more than we agreed, i started having doubts. Then they filled one of the rooms in the apartment with somebody i definitely didn't think i'd fit with and had some more doubts. No matter what I said to my agent, he just ignored me and tried to steamroll me into coming into the Roomeze office and signing the lease. After expressing all my doubts about the situation my agent started to harass me daily about the lease. After reviewing the lease, you'd have to be crazy to sign it. First thing I noticed on the agreements were the words "jointly and severally responsible". What that means is, if any of the randos Roomeze throws in with you stops paying rent, you're on the hook for that rent. No way was I signing that, not with 3 strangers I barely knew. After I refused to sign my agent went on a guilt trip to the point I had to block his number because the texts and the calls just wouldn't stop. Can't emphasize enough, do not get involved with Roomeze. Totally wasted my time and money and stressed me out for weeks, don't let the same happen to you. read more

Worst third-party company to "help" you find an apartment/ roommates in NYC, especially if you're new in the city and don't know much about the housing situations in the area. In my situation, Roomeze charged me a $200 application fee, whereby people in the same unit, who didn't sign up with Roomeze, only paid $50 for their application fee for an apartment owned by CT Green Management/ GB Properties (biggest scammers you'll ever encounter). They promise you they'll help you to find your "ideal" place to live at, and help you if there would be any difficulties encountered, for example with landlords, which in my case didn't want to give back my 4x security deposit (because I am international student with no credit score) and I left the apartment with no damages at all, so there was no reason to not return the security deposit. Roomeze have no office place to visit, no number to call and they choice to answer your emails if they feel for if. I needed to chase my security deposit for 4 whole months, and even ended up in contact with the co-founder Jordan, who didn't do any good at all. He said he would call and explain the situation, but I never heard from him, and I tried multiple times to contact him via email, but it was just waste of time. This company only cares about making their commissions, and deals with shitty landlords who will try to scam you your security deposit. DO NOT USE ROOMEZE!! They do no represent tenants or facilitate any mediation between you and your landlord. They present you with false information not aligned with the landlord. There goal is to simply fill the room, get paid, and leave. If you can, run when you see an apartment promoted through this app. There is a reason a landlord need this service to fill their rooms because the landlord is incompetent and will take advantage of young first time renters in the city. Please please do not use this service. We were told by roomeze we were allowed to leave our apartment a week before our lease ended and would not have to pay additional rent because our lease ended a week after the first of the month. We were informed this had been approved by our landlord. I secured housing beginning the first of the month based on this information. Our landlord then informed us we would still have to pay rent for the first week of the month or the last week of our lease. Roomeze did nothing to clarify this issue with our landlord or speak on our behalf. They ignored our calls, emails and texts to discuss this issue further. Roomeze owes us our last week of rent and because of this false information I paid for an additional week of housing at a new apartment. Double rent! They made me pay 3 times the rent for security deposit because I'm a foreigner and didn't have credit check. When the lease ended, the landlord refused to refund me the deposit!!! I've used Roomeze before in order to obtain a room. This time last year, the process seemed legit (somewhat) but I was able to obtained residency. Well, today I had a video interviewed scheduled with Leira the agent for 10:15 am. The time came and went, with no response. One hour later, I get a random text from an iPhone number and it's the agent. The agent and I speak. The agent sends a video of the apartment/room I was interested in... priced at $650,however when I asked regarding more about the deposit. The agent was the most unclear broker ever. She wouldn't answer calls, she would answer texts later. Instead of calling to interview me over the phone, she sends a collage of texts (which made no sense), in which I emailed support for assistance. Instead of apologizing, they asked me if I ever saw the room in person. I'm still waiting for a support email, or apology, for this trouble. Not to long after this, I dealt with another broker who took my deposit for a room in harlem ... and then confessed he probably wouldnt be able to sell the room. Well, after switching applications for rooms that were posted and no rooms being available. I figured to look online for rooms outside of Roomeze. I answered the ad, and whos scolding me for viewing on my own time. The first representative "Lera". This led to the broker texting me in which a text confrontation happened. I will not say who this was, however, this person is one of the best in terms of sharing and providing updates (no matter how good or bad you receive from the timeline): After two months of being homeless, I sent a lengthy documented receipt of my troubles and received my deposit back in full. They did help on that accord ... (i was very lucky). Reasons to avoid. Roomeze has no phone numbers to call, and you are on their time in regards to text, email responses. You may be lucky and have an agent who's helped (I've had two in the last- both extremely sweet). However (prior to the quarantine ) happened to be the worst experience of it all. If your on their website, you will see icons with "potential" roommates. You will be on the website viewing rooms that have been posted months prior and you will see these same icons switching rooms (major red flag). Your best bet, if the apartment has been up for months and no one is listed. Do not WASTE your time. You better off viewing rooms that are almost filled. From a renters standpoint, I did have one room prior through roomeze. There was no checking in to acknowledge how us roommates were getting along (remember your randomly placed with whomever and under any random landlord that runs the apartment). Any help in terms of renewing a lease - again with the landlords... roomeze is not an option. You want to do a roomswap, your have to wait for a "room" made available once they can find other candidates to actually fill the rooms. Its just way to much to deal with. If you are struggling like I was. Do not put all of your hopes into Roomeze. The $600 deposit (which is ridiculous in itself) could be better off used towards rooms through other outlets. As an expat, I looked for a company that could facilitate my move-in process in New York, helping to alleviate the stress associated with finding an apartment in a new city, especially one as unforgiving as NYC. Roomeze, to my misfortune, was the company that I decided to use. Their simplistic and easy-to-use website pulled me into thinking that hiring their services would greatly help my transition. I was wrong. For those contemplating on using Roomeze to find a room/apartment, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind: 1. Their "roommate vetting" process is a sham. They simply do not vet roommates. This, to put it simply, made my one-year lease a nightmare, as the roommates that were assigned to my apartment hated each other so much that I would sometimes come home from work to fist fights. I later learned that a couple of my ex-roommates had priors with law enforcement. How, then, do these people get assigned rooms with Roomeze if the company has a vetting process? I think the answer is simple: Roomeze doesn't actually "vet" anyone. 2. Roomeze partners up with the worst landlords. Seriously. The landlord company that Roomeze deals with, especially if you're looking at Rooms in Manhattan, is the worst. Not only are they the most unpleasant people you'll ever deal with, but they always hover just above the law. About 2 months into our lease, they decided to suspend electronic payments. A month later, they refused to accept cheques being sent my mail because they didn't want to issue receipts notifying that the company had received our payment. This meant that we had to go in person to give them a cheque for our rent every single month. Upon personally handing in our cheques, they, at times, would refuse to give us physical receipts. What's worse, if you ever decided to complain, they'd call over this big guy who always seemed mad to scold you for being the worst tenant. Roomeze, if you're reading this, remember that many expats who don't know the city at all put their faith in you to facilitate their moving process, not complicate it. On an ethical point of view, Roomeze should review the kinds of landlords they partner with, given the type of clientele that looks to Roomeze to help them start a life in a new city. In not doing so, you're essentially handing over unsuspecting clients to horrible landlords. 3. Remember, first and foremost, that Roomeze is an agent, not a mediator. Many people, like myself, initially think of Roomeze as a company that'll mediate or attempt to help if you ever have a problem with a roommate or a landlord. This is not the case. It's important to keep in mind that Roomeze is a commission-first-think-later company that will disassociate with any problem as soon as you sign the dotted line. I invite those who want more information to read through Roomeze' "Disclaimers and Release of Liability" section on their website where they essentially absolve themselves of everything that could go wrong. There's even an excerpt that states that "Roomeze does not inspect any of the properties or rooms that feature in adverts on [their] Site", if you really must know about how little responsibility they're willing to take. Over the course of the year, I encountered numerous problems, some of which involved a roommate unexpectedly deciding to move out and leave her room vacant, a couple roommates getting on so bad that physical altercations took place, the landlord company being pretty sketchy in its rental processes, and the apartment being in such bad condition that a piece of the roof caved in and caused a waterfall. Roomeze refused to help in any of these cases, including with the roommate situation. Eventually, they just stopped responding to messages. If you decide to utilize Roomeze' services, it's important that you not only keep all of these points in mind, but also take the time to read the small print on their website to truly understand the potential situations clients set themselves up for. tldr; highly advise against. read more

This is a rather old experience, but considering the reviews I have read, it's still relevant. I used Roomeze's service back in August of 2017 and there were several red flags. I first came across Roomeze when I was looking for an apartment on craigslist. There was a great deal I found for a place in the Bronx and in the post itself did not include any mention of Roomeze whatsoever. I figured I follow through with it since the deal was too good to pass up. I went to see the apartment alongside the Roomeze representative (Michael R.) and he did not look professional or anyone with any credible real estate knowledge. He looked more like a student who was using this job to make some extra income on the side. He proceeded to walk me through the apartment and the Roomeze application process. I was a bit hesitant to apply considering I was still weighing my options, but Michael insisted that this place will go fast if I don't make a move on it and pay the $500 application fee. It was a good sales move and I fell for it, but it doesn't stop there. After I applied and paid the fee to hold the apartment, my potential roommate emailed me to create a rapport. Once we connected over email, Michael wanted me to sign the lease asap. I told him I'm not going to sign a one year lease with someone I haven't met in person. I met with my potential roommate and he was a standup and super friendly guy, but he told me about his smoking habits and that's something I couldn't put up with for a year. I turned down the offer and ended up finding a better apartment with a roommate who had similar living habits as I. I called Michael R., the Roomeze representative, for my $500 refund and they wouldn't oblige because it was stipulated in the electronic contract. Completely appalled with the realty company known as Roomeze. I do NOT recommend them whatsoever. I haven't even lived in New York for a solid month, yet I am the one being discriminated against and being asked to find a new apartment. Roomeze was fully aware of my dog moving with me to New York and said they found me roommates who were happy with living with an ESA. However that was COMPLETELY FALSE, and now they are basically forcing me to move out. And let me add that according to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Federal Fair Housing Amendments Act of 1988, Nugget is by law, allowed to live with me. Sorry for the rant. I feel obligated to write a review after my experience with roomeze. surprised they have 4 stars on yelp, then I did more research and it seems like those 5 star reviews are paid for.... if you look at the 5 star review profiles those people just give corny 5 star reviews for random business. Either way... I like the idea of roomeze and the application but has serious flaws and frustrations. To be clear, Roomeze ONLY connects people to rent an apartment. They do not own or affiliated with the landlords. When you pay your $600 to reserve a room, they keep 200 as for using their service. The 400 can be used towards the security deposit. Do not say you're no longer interested in the apartment no matter what, because then they keep the 400. That's where a lot of 1 star reviews come from and frustrations. Roomeze is not a scam because I actually got an apartment through it with 2 other people. However, you will definitely have frustration, stress, and feel like you're going through a scam. So I had just put down a deposit for an EXR apartment, when I got a call from my EXR agent saying that my apartment got flooded-- a week before the start of my lease. Naturally I panicked and began emailing every real estate agent I could find online in hopes of finding a place as soon as possible. Mikhail Galper responded to my request in a heartbeat. He was super attentive to my needs and found me a great apartment-- with everything I had asked for-- in a prime Brooklyn neighborhood. Having only lived in Manhattan, I was a little hesitant about the change of scenery, but he gave me a quick tour on our drive over and I was hooked! Within minutes of seeing the place I placed my deposit. Easiest application I've ever filled out! I loved the support that I received throughout it all and that they charged no additional credit card fees (unlike some other companies that I looked into). To my relief, my new roommates are also amazing and we clicked right away. It is clear this business has closed and I am fed up. A little over a year ago I signed a lease under Roomeze for a hefty $200 fee, which bought me absolutely nothing. They promised the $200 fee was for support "for the length of the lease". I am still in the same apartment, under the same lease, with a weird-ass roommate that needs to be addressed, and Roomeze has ceased to exist. Their website is down and any emails sent to them have been kicked back. Even before the business closed, their real estate agents were largely underwhelming. They seemed disinterested in prospective tenants viewing the apartment and provided cryptic information for simple questions about the space. I'm not sure if real estate agents are all slimy by design, but after this experience, I'm renting straight from Craigslist. Following your dreams of founding some hip tech-savvy service of an already insufferable industry is no reason to cheat people out of their money and provide nothing in return. read more

Albania was super awesome with the entire process and she really linked me with some fantastic roommates. Literally I couldn't have asked for a better person to help me out with my first apartment in the city. Not to mention, Albania is also such a friendly and responsible matcher and keeps the communication upbeat. Hands down a goddess of matching. She gets the job done and is always there to clarify each step of the way. UPDATE: After 9 months of living in my apartment, I have to say Albania wasn't any help after we all moved in. STAY AWAY FROM ROOMEZE! They Scam ... thats it. I had a problem getting deposit back after I was not approved for a room. I also went in knowing what my credit was and was assured that I would be a shoe in. Well that wasn't the case and in the end kind of got scammed out of 200$ I had to call AFTER move in date after not hearing back on application, that i had not got the apt.. and that they were only returning 400 of the 600 i had left for a deposit. Also I wouldn't get it back for ten days..? Really? It was hard to contact anyone, even an agent, because there is no customer service available. When my agent, frank did call me back, he said the landlord evicted the entire apartment and no one could move in. Really frank...really? Im like, well thats fishy, but ok just give me my deposit back and ill be on my way. Apparently they keep 200 without telling you for a yearly rooming service that I obviously didn't use, because I was not approved...duh. Their contract even said a lesser amount than they charged me for their application. When I brought this to their attention, they kind of made me feel foolish with a "your the one who fucked up not us attitude". Moving is hard enough, but to go through this, not be treated kindly after the rejection, and then have to wait more than ten days for a return, still have no apt is the worst. It was just horrible customer service all around, and I contacted the better biz bureau! (Please note they are paid to benefit the landlord, not the tenants, hence my review). The idea of this service is that they would pair you up with people (roommates) that are similar to you. Who share the same interests, ideas of cleanliness, and overall compatibility. After the plan of moving into one of their apartments fell threw, I agreed to move into a four bedroom apartment. I already knew of one of the girls moving in because we were initially going to move into the apartment that didn't work out. We were asked to come into the roomeze office to sign the leasing papers, receive the apartment keys, and meet everyone including the landlord. When I first walked in, there were only two leases printed for a four bedroom apartment. First Red Flag. The lease only stated the total amount of rent due, not separated by tenant/person occupying the room. When I asked Richie, the owner of roomeze, if he can provide a separate page or email that distinguished everyone's rent, he became very rude and agitated. I didn't feel comfortable signing a document that could possibly enforce me having to pay the full amount. He then proceeded to state that one of us was responsible for collecting everyone else's rent on one check because he wanted to make the process for the landlord 'smoother'. Again, I didn't feel comfortable being responsible for someone else's rent and suggested we submit separate checks but in one envelope. Richie pushed back not understanding why I didn't feel comfortable being responsible for over $3k. After some tension built, he called all four of us into his office saying that we needed to be a team and that we need to have open communication. Although, this was the first time meeting everyone (even the girl I mentioned earlier). It was their responsibility to provide us with each other's number/contact information for us to be 'communicative'. I went to the lease signing very open-minded, however, I had to look out for myself too, because who else would? We sign the lease, we get the keys, and we did not met the landlord. Fast forward a month, one of the roommates is asking for a copy of the lease (remember there were only TWO copies. One for roomeze and another for the landlord). After countless unanswered emails to Arty (the person showing us the apartment) & Richie, we received a text message from Arty for a lease that wasn't even ours! We then contacted our landlord, who also does not have a copy of our lease. We've been trying to get in contact with Richie since for other reasons, but when he's not internationally traveling, he's ignoring our calls and emails. Worst experience ever from a rental service. I absolutely DO NOT recommend going through the headache that is roomeze. They are very quick to take your money and suggest roomeze 'protection' that is priced @ $150 but valued @ shit dollars. Don't let them take you for your money. Go else where! There are other reputable business' that actually provide you with security and much more. read more

I recently found my new place via Roomeze, and I will be moving in on 7/15. The agent I worked with, Brooke, was absolutely amazing! Started out with a viewing for a spot in Bed-Stuy, but I was denied by that building's owner (which kinda sucked, as I really wanted to have an apartment with an elevator that opens inside the unit). However, she was able to find another spot that was equally great (sans elevator, though), and that met my budget requirements! She kept me abreast of everything that was going on throughout the process, and worked really hard to make sure that I would end up in a place I would love. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY. I viewed an apartment with Selena. It needed more repairs and cleaning up which I was assured would occur before the move-in date. Roomeze requires a deposit before you even apply so I paid it and was approved the next day. The other two roommates were already approved. Then, we were told the landlord wanted to charge another fee. Then, after multiple communications with both Selena and another agent (Selena was out of the country...), we were told we wouldn't have to pay it anymore. To make matters worse, the lease was not made available to us until the last possible minute, only a few days before the first of the month when we all needed to be out of our previous apartments by. Once I received the lease, it did not even have what I thought was the correct apartment number. Turns out the apartment was STILL NOT READY so we were moved to another apartment in the building -- there was no mistake with the apartment number after all! The lease also included terms with additional fees and ongoing construction all year we hadn't discussed with the agent. After all this, I saw that I was not going to get what was promised and did not sign. My other roommates did sign, had a horrible experience, and moved out shortly after! I worked with Albania Execution - 0/5 I found an apartment that I wanted, and I put down an application fee and a deposit totaling $500. This was back in mid June. The expected move- in date was 7/1/2017 but there were problems with the overall process, on roomeze's end, so the expected move-in date was delayed to 7/15/2017. A week before the move-in date, I was "TOLD" that my application was approved along with my other future roommates, but the management company wanted 3 months' rent upfront. I wasn't happy with the news, nevertheless I agreed to it. BUT then I was "TOLD" that the other roommates didn't want to put up the 3 months rent, which I totally understand, but Albania is speaking with the management company to resolve the issue. This problem persisted with no solutions and no updates for a whole week. 2 days before 7/15/2017, I found out that we won't be able to move into the apartment anymore and there were no alternatives. My heart sank. IF I DIDN'T HAVE A PLACE TO STAY, I WOULD HAVE BEEN HOMELESS. Albania had two apartments left to show me (move in date Aug 1), so I set up a time to view the apartment. By the time I got there (the next day) that two apartment dwindled down to one apartment and only one room in that apartment. So, I was left with one option, and it was either that room or nothing. Albania had no other rooms to show me. I only had 1 option. IT IS RIDICULOUS. This makes me feel like the whole thing is a scam AND a bait and switch company. WHY AM I PAYING A FEE WHEN I DIDN'T GET TO MOVE INTO MY APARTMENT!! AM I PAYING A FEE FOR YOU TO GIVE ME THE RUN AROUND, ACT LIKE YOU DID SOMETHING?? THEN TELL ME OOPS YOU F*CKED UP ON YOUR END SO I HAVE TO PAY YOU! Customer service - 0/5 If you call their number during business hours, which I did, you won't get through to anyone. This would be a great idea if the staff was actually able to mediate conflict between roommates in any real way. This is really not any fault of the agents, but they are simply real-estate agents... the man who runs this organization needs to do a better job of providing what Roomeze claims to provide -- which is a roommate matching service. There should be work done to actually match folks that would mesh well together, which is not at all the case. When I did have conflict with my roommates, I was not listened to and was blamed for the entire thing, without anyone hearing my side of the story. We were told all utilities were included. That was a complete lie. The broker, Selena Aydin, was untruthful and condescending. The apartment was not up to code, the landlord was terrible. No hot water or gas. I would not recommend Roomeze to my worst enemy. Please message me if you want more information about this shady company. Finding an apartment with Roomeze was quick and easy, but since then I have had a less than positive experience. I moved into the 4 bedroom when 1 person was already living there with her dog. We were given conflicting reports from Roomeze reps on whether the 4th bedroom would be moved into. Frustrating indecision, but not the end of the world. A week later our 2 new roommates moved in, and it was a surprise to me that they each had dogs. 3 dogs in a 4 bedroom apt was a mistake to set up. I asked to enact the option i paid for when I signed my lease where they would help me relocate to another one of their apartments. I again received conflicting reports from different staff members on when this would be possible. Ultimately, I was told that I would either need to find my own replacement or pay double rent until someone agreed to move into my current room if I wished to move out. This has been frustrating. It has also resulted in lots of my stuff smelling like dog pee. It has been a month since I initially asked to move out and I have received minimal contact from Roomeze about progress. I recommend being cautious if you use them, unless you feel confident and clear about the living situation you are stepping into. read more

I really would like to outline exactly why people shouldn't use Roomeze, because my experience wasn't poor customer service or anything like that...the person I worked with was really responsive and helpful with all of my concerns. My qualms come with the business model of Roomeze and why it is fundamentally flawed. So I found an apartment listed on Facebook and contacted the person, Emily, who asked basic questions about income, credit, etc, like any other broker would. We arranged a time for me to see the apartment, and met up a few days later. The apartment was fantastic and exactly what I was looking for. This is when Emily warned me about Roomeze's first big pitfall: the apartments they advertise are not exclusive listings. They are public listings that anyone else can come in and take as well. Roomeze simply works with the landlords to assemble individuals to take the rooms, but the application is not complete until all roommates sign on. So basically...I was taking the second of three bedrooms, and she had several other people who were coming to look at the final room later that day. I told her I was in. She found a third person, and all seemed well. She set up a group chat for us to get to know each other, so we could chat and figure out if we'd be good together. We all agreed to submit our paperwork. This is where we ran into problems. Two of us submitted the paperwork. One did not. She later dropped out of the apartment. Emily worked to get another person. She did so. And then another roommate dropped out, so there were still only two of us. Within a few days, the other roommate dropped, so I was the only one left. A few days later, Emily found another person to commit, and there were two of us. She continued showing the place. In what I can only assume was an attempt to speed up the process, Emily did what I see as the second flaw in Roomeze's busines model: she submitted my application and the second roommate's application to the landlord so that we could get approved, but without having a third person, so therefore our applications weren't technically "complete". Nonetheless, they were processed anyway. After this, I felt like it was definitely going to happen. I was approved, my other roommate was approved, we were just waiting on the final person. But then no one would bite on the third bedroom. I finally got an email from Emily that the apartment had been taken by someone else outside of Roomeze, and she apologized that she wasn't able to find the last roommate. Here are my issues: 1) Roomeze takes your money before it is official that you are applying for the apartment. You must put a deposit down to reserve your spot. When I did this in the past, with a different company, there was no deposit required until all roommates were on the application. Normally, I wouldn't care, because they refunded my deposit once I did not get the apartment. However... 2) ...I lost $200 on the application fee because Emily submitted it to the landlord and my application was processed. So I lost $200 and got an new credit inquiry on my account. I understand it's NYC and application fees and credit checks are normal, but at least I usually get an apartment at the end of it. I was frustrated that my application was submitted yet still not considered complete...seems like I shouldn't lose the application fee if I wasn't technically ever able to officially apply for the apartment. I will say that Emily was extremely helpful and she appeared to do her best to fill the room -- it wasn't necessarily her fault. I'd say that the issue lies more in the business model of the company and their procedures rather than in the people themselves. read more

I see a lot of experiences in these reviews that match my own: 1) Not being "matched" with roommates, but rather just being a warm body to put into a room without consideration of compatibility (I lucked out and got some cool roommates, but there was no "matching" process). 2) ZERO support and POOR communication leading up to and after moving in. 3) Finally, a "deal" was presented to me by my Roomeze rep, which I agreed to (but stupidly didn't insist was in the lease or in writing), to move in past the date on the lease because the unit wasn't ready. I was told I wouldn't have to pay any rent for that particular month. Finally, after being harassed by the landlord for over a month after moving in, I relented and paid some rent for days I didn't even live there. When I told the landlord about the deal, he told me it was never discussed with him. I asked the Roomeze rep about this, but received no response. Shameful. read more

You can keep it short and say they're a scam and will steal your money if you want, but the entire situation is that they alleged an apartment would be ready by August 15th and when asked for the keys and to sign a lease, they didn't respond for days and then communicated that due to their inability to fill the other rooms, the apartment could not be claimed. This left the person suddenly without a place to go but back to their parents on such short notice. They have to commute 4 hours a day and pay, almost what a rent payment would be, for a storage unit. read more

If I could Rate them Zero stars I would in a heartbeat. I've been living in NYC my entire life and never have I seen a real estate company as poorly informed and uncaring to the needs of their clients. Their broker Tristan terrible.For a $200 flat broker fee I'd expect some sort of help but instead I was treated as some kind of nuisance. I didn't need to immediately move out of my current location I would have not deal with them at all. The keys to the apartment were not only not present at the lease signing up but when I WAS given keys, they were the wrong set. TWICE. I met their "match maker" Tristan at the apartment he showed only to be met with a lot of "ums" and false information on what would be done to fix up the apartment. That was the only appointment he was on time or even present for. The rest of time I dealt with him via text because he couldn't be bothered to deal with a customer one-on-one, especially on Halloween. Couldn't bother to show up for the lease signing but when I went back to their office pick to pick up keys, there he was drinking beers. He then proceeded to give me the wrong set of keys. He then set up an appointment to drop them off with me the next morning, which he was late. Also, THE SAME SET OF WRONG KEYS! TLDR; don't bother with Roomeze, they'll just waste your time and your money. read more

This company I thought was great I saw a place I likes gave my 600.00 deposit fast forward-- Still haven't heard from anyone in the roomeze team. After waiting a month and a half to get into an apartment now I want my deposit back. They only have ONE person working in the office in the uptown office,, this company to me is feeling like a scam. I'm done looking with this company there communication is awful and they when the 1st is coming up you would expect an email or call to let you know " hey we are waiting on -- although it's the 1st we will need to wait till the 15." There's nothing more.... well.. "character building", than apartment hunting in New York. Fortunately, Roomeze help me stay the entitled millennial I am, and by that I mean it was a very painless process and I hardly had to do anything! Roomeze partners with apartments and finds great people to fill them. You can go to them as a group or an individual. The Roommate Matchmaker will fill the remaining rooms with people they feel will get along with the other's who've already committed to moving in. I moved in as an individual with two other people. A great point to mention is that the selected tenants is *not* a first-come-first-serve deal. The matchmaker meets with everyone and then selects those with similar interests/living goals/etc. This is a huge plus because the chances you will live with a huge wacko are reduced (I mean everyone in New York City is a wacko but you'll get one's that have your similar neurosis!) Celena was my roommate matchmaker and she was terrific. The whole process was very painless and she was there to answer any questions I had and very promptly. She is chill and down-to-earth, not a stuffy real estate suit that you might find elsewhere. read more

When it came to finding an apartment in New York City, I've always had bad luck. Either I would get denied due to my student status, or I would end up in a horrible building with horrible roommates. However, Roomeze has completely changed that. I went into my apartment search with a bit more confidence as I am graduating college in a few weeks and I have a job offer under my belt already. I felt prepared, but still nervous based off of past experiences. This is where Mikhail comes in - he is a literal ANGEL. He actually matched me with two amazing roommates in a gorgeous apartment in Bushwick! I viewed the apartment on Saturday and was approved by the landlord in three days. Mikhail promised that he would advocate for me, and he did. He even wrote a letter! If you are going to go with Roomeze, ask for Mikhail. He is super trustworthy and sweet. Roomeze was extremely easy to use and the workers are very helpful. Jeffrei made me feel comfortable during the roommate search and I trust that things will go well with the roommate match he made. They are also helpful in the sense that they are a 3rd party that makes you feel more secure with your lease and landlord. Someone to assist if there is ever an issue. Definitely recommend if it is your first time moving, if you are having trouble finding roommates and/or if you are having trouble finding an apartment. read more

I found Mikhail on Facebook and he assured me that I will have a room with my own private bathroom in a luxury building for under my budget. What I got was incredible. Would have done 5 stars but trying to beat the algorithm that filters them out!! I worked with Shayna to find an apartment. I met her by chance after having multiple issues with my apartment hunt. I was down to the wire and needed to find a place to move into ASAP. Shayna really listened to all of my preferences and found me multiple options in the first day of us speaking. The second apartment she showed me was the one I applied for and now am moving into! So grateful to have met Shayna. She is truly such an efficient worker and just great person in general. I had the sincere displease to work them as a student, who needed to move within two weeks for the upcoming semester at Columbia. I found a very pricey room that I felt compelled to hold with a deposit, advice of the Roomeze agent. After seeing another room, not within Roomeze I was informed quite Rudely that my deposit was not "eligible" for return for the small print in the deposit info - which my agent not only neglected to warn me about, but also encouraged me to put up the money since I could "get it back." But the worst part, besides losing $600.00 practically overnight (as a student), was the fact that they completely Ghosted me ever since that day. No calls from the agents who roused me to spend more than my budget. No one to pick up the phone at headquarters. No emails (except for a robotic automatic response). I liked one of the rooms in a two bedroom apt. But the $200 deposit is a scam. and let me tell you why. first it states before you fill out your application that's the 200 is not refundable. why is the $200 not refundable while the other $100 is for roomeze services? what if my application gets rejected? then where is my money? why not refunding the $100 with the rest of the deposit and keep the $100 application fee? no way MONEY DOESN'T GROW ON TREES. So I am not going to pay $200 for an application fee without any assurance of acceptance. even tho I am so desperate for a room but I am not going to fall for this neither do you. read more

Worst service ever! Very deceptive. While looking for a room in NYC recently, I was told that the deposit would be refundable regardless of whether I went through with the process but when I decided to pull out before the completion of the process, they claimed the deposit is only refundable at the end of the lease. She was also very accommodating to our requests and always early for walk thru appts which I appreciated. The most frustrating aspect of this process is that apts must be fully filled before you can sign a lease and move forward.
