I found a place through Roomeze. But I did have several big problems which I'd like share. My positive feedback comes after. 1. I found a Roomeze broker through the website Naked Apartments. The listing said "no fee" brokerage. It was only after I asked about reserving the apartment that the broker mentioned the $200 application fee through Roomeze. This is very deceptive bait-and-switch marketing. Naked Apartments has a low-fee listing option, which is what the broker should have advertised. No-fee listings also charge for brokerage, but it's included in the rent and spread out over time, which is what I wanted. I continued to work with the broker because I was rushed and out of state. 2. When I came to the apartment for a viewing, the brokers (there were two) were very aggressive in getting me to make a deposit immediately, including lying about having another client for a viewing right after me, who would definitely take the place if she saw it. We left 15 minutes after they'd said their next client was scheduled. No one had shown up or called, and there was no sign they were expecting anyone. The broker also gave me wrong information about where I could sign my lease, and about my roommates and their move-in dates. It became clear later that he didn't know who my roommates were. They didn't find the apartment through Roomeze so he only had very limited info on them, which the landlady had relayed to him. I wouldn't mind this, but you have to be upfront about it. Instead he filled in the gaps to answer my questions. I didn't get to know their names until I came to sign the lease. 3. On the day I arrived to sign the lease and pick up my keys, Roomeze didn't have them. They told me, unapologetically, that I was going to have to wait until 6:00 pm. This wouldn't have been a huge problem, except I had been assured two days earlier that I could show up anytime between 11am and 6pm (these are their office hours) and I'd be able to move in right away. I was coming from another city by bus, with a heap of luggage, and I'd made sure to call before booking my bus tickets. I'd even called again the day before I arrived. They should have let me know as soon as they discovered they weren't going to get the keys on time. Instead they waited for me to arrive at their office, from another city no less, to tell me right at the door! And they were surprised, shocked even, that I was upset. They refused to acknowledge any error on their part, and were instead condescending. I did have the keys within an hour, but not without complaining. Someone burst into the room with them, after apparently rushing from the landlady's. My positive feedback is that Roomeze made searching for an apartment remotely a little easier. I was looking for an apartment in NY while living in CA, and my first viewing was via FaceTime. This isn't unique to Roomeze, however. I'd video chatted with another broker from Naked Apartments. If I hadn't been rushed to find an apartment relatively quickly and remotely, I wouldn't have tolerated the bait-and-switch ploy, or the things that came after. There were so many things that were done wrong. The other reason I chose to make a deposit despite being very annoyed, was because I was initially offered a refund after rescinding my first application. This isn't something Roomeze usually does. Given the chance, I wouldn't patronize this business again. I interacted with three employees in person. I found that they were neither honest nor transparent. read more

First I would like to stress that my review isn't about any one person but the company as a whole. They really need to do a better job vetting the mgmt companies/landlords they work with. One landlord was so unavailable and never around to show the apartment so I never got to see it. Another company lied and said they weren't accepting applications for their vacant apartments after my deposit was made and credit check ran. Yet they continued to advertise said apartments and even take applications from others with more substantial income/credit--despite myself and two others meeting the basic requirements and doing their ridiculous totally unnecessary interview. They basically pick and choose who they want to rent to even if you do qualify. A little research of the property also showed a history of discrimination against black rent stabilized tenants who were forced out of their homes. Updated review: They will rent you an illegal room in an illegal apartment. Brooke assisted me with finding a unit, a basement. When seeing the unit i was concerned with there being no windows she said it was fine because there was a door leading to outside, I now know that is illegal. I also found out that the townhome I stay in is supposed to be a 2 family building and my apartment is the illegal 3rd family home. Prior to moving in I was assured that the apartment would be cleaned and it was not. When reaching out to broke about it her excuse was a religious holiday. When I looked up the management company that is in charge of the unit all of their tenants stated that do not clean any of the units and items where left over from previous tenants . I reached out to the roomeze person who assisted us after we moved in and found out she no longer works with the company. Brooke never responded to any of my messages and when I contacted roomeze i got no answer. I also put down a security deposit 3 times my rent. Brooke told me that was not bad and I should do it. I also never meet my roommates till the lease signing and the other I did not meet until after the move in date. With this said do not work with roomeze and if you do know the laws and you rights because they can put you in unfortunate situations. She constantly asked me to make a review and here it's the update. Previous review: I had a rough time finding an apartment post college graduation. During my process I lost out on a lot of money with application fees and even got scammed. A friend of mine used Roomeze to find his apartment and connected me with Brooke. Due to me looking for an apartment for my boyfriend and I, it made the process even harder. Brooke knew of me circumstances and never gave up, she negotiated with landlords and found me an amazing apartment with 3 great roommates. If it wasn't her I would probably be staying in an Airbnb still. There is no brokers fee so that saves you thousands and the application fee is a one time thing which is a plus. You can post all of your documents on the app when applying and it convenient because you don't have to constantly distribute your information. They told me my apartment would be move-in ready by August 15th and I put down a deposit and they stopped answering me when I reached out to get the keys and sign the lease. Finally, when it was already too late for me to find something else, they told me I wouldn't be able to move into the apartment and now I'm left with nowhere to live. I literally make a Yelp account to write a review for Roomeze. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE!!! I got scammed out of $600 and didn't get an apartment because of their poor time management skills. I found them via Facebook where one of their "realtors" posted for one more person to fill a 4 bedroom apt. It was perfect for me, had everything I wanted in my price range, it was great. This was early August, I wanted a September 1st move in (my lease was ending so I HAD to move out by that date). They came off with this great system, a site to upload all your paperwork and have your own little bio and whatnot. My parents and I filled out everything they asked for, submitted it to the website, then paid the $200 for the Roomeze service plus $400 to hold the room. No problem. This is guaranteed, right? Well, about a week later it turns out that one of the four girls in in this quartet hasn't submitted all her paperwork in time (I was never given the full details) therefore ALL of us lost the apartment. Well, now what? How come the other three of us get penalized if one person messes up? So my "realtor" puts me in another apartment that's "better" than the last one (it wasn't, there was no living room, no laundry in the building, 2 make roommates and 1 female roommate & the rent was higher) and tells me that I'm guaranteed a Sept 1 move in with this one. Okay, fine. The four of us in this apartment think we're all set for a Sept 1 move in. Sept 1 is a Saturday, so I text my "realtor" on that Tuesday just to get a confirmation that I'll be moving in on Saturday. Her reply is "probably." What do you mean, probably? Well, she pushed my application to the landlord but he needs more paperwork from me and then we'll have to be approved. She keeps this up Tuesday - Friday, asking me for more and more paperwork that my parents and I thought we had already filled out a month ago. And we still weren't guaranteed an apartment??? Saturday rolls around and, guess what? NO APARTMENT! My "relator" says she HOPES he'll get back to me by TUESDAY - Monday was a HOLIDAY. I was officially homeless - I had to move my things to a STORAGE UNIT and had to live in a HOSTEL in NEW YORK because I had to start my JOB ON TUESDAY. Since Roomeze was giving me literally no information other than "we're waiting for the landlord's approval," I decided to go look at other apartments in the city - and I found one that was 10x better than the Roomeze one and applied to it. Monday night, I still have no info from Roomeze, my "realtor" texts me and tells me that she QUIT HER JOB AT ROOMEZE. Okay????? Great????? Now I'm STRANDED, she only gives me her boss' email. I email her boss and she isn't on top of my apartment fiasco, she asks me TWICE which apt I'm waiting for (even though I told her in my initial email to her). Fun fact: ROOMEZE DOESN'T HAVE AN OFFICIAL COMPANY PHONE NUMBER LISTED ON THEIR WEBSITE - SKETCHY!!!! Tuesday rolls around and, of course, we are officially approved to move into the Roomeze apt - this is 4 days after we were promised we could move in. But, as luck would have it, I also got approved for the other (better) apartment!!! What to do??? I obviously took the non-Roomeze apt that was better in every way and got my application approved in no time. But this sucks: that means the other three people can't move into the original apartment. And I feel bad about that but what kind of system is this where everyone gets penalized when one person doesn't come through???? That needs to be worked out. I also lost the $600 that I originally put down because I was approved for that apartment. I guess that's their policy but how much shittier can you get? Roomeze cause me to be homeless, didn't offer to pay for my hostel or ANYTHING. I lost money because of them: the $600, the money I spent on the hostel, the storage unit and the transportation to go between New York and Boston to move on a different day. Probably more than $1000 was personally lost because of this company and their shitty services. If our application had been pushed EARLIER then this may not have happened, but maybe it still would've happened. I put $400 to hold the ORIGINAL ROOM and DIDNT GET IT, I WAS PROMISED THE ORIGINAL ROOM WITH THAT $400 BUT INSTEAD I LOST ALL $600 IN THE END BC OF THEIR INCOMPETENCE. If I could give them -5 stars I would. Don't use this shitty service, just pay a real realtor to help you find an apartment - it'll cost the same but you'll actually get what you were promised you were gonna get. read more

She was very helpful and understanding especially this being my first big move away from my hometown. Although we had a slight delay with the lease, she was able to get me in my unit right away. Jenny and the Roomeze support team are very responsive and will definitely be recommending them to my friends and family! **The support hotline number could use some work though, I called a few times and no one would ever answer.. didn't even give me the option to leave a message. The worst possible experience. Stay away from Roomeze! The lack of professionalism and the neglect of the people I engaged with during the grueling 6 weeks I had to deal with them is beyond anything imaginable. Just to give you the headlines: a move in that was supposed to happen on January 1st (I have it in written by the agent) ended up taking place only on January 13th!! Now, let me give you the specifics: - I was treated with the utmost unbecoming conduct and harshness by the agent who showed me the apt (text messages with all caps, hanging up the phone on me, threatening to return my deposit (??) so that I would lose the room I was very interested in and had been approved for); - For a 'definite' (or so the agent wrote) move in on January 1st, it was already December 27th and I still had no word from Roomeze as to when I would indeed be able to sign the lease, get my keys and move in -- the uncertainty continued until well into January; - This uncertainty had devastating consequences on my emotional and physical wellbeing: I had to move out from my old place, put all my things and furniture in storage, and live off a backpack for 12 days at four different Airbnbs across the city (with a young dog). - When asked to compensate me for my losses (belongings in storage, two different moves, twelve days at Airbnbs), the senior staff (Richie, the co-founder and Mickey, the office manager) declined any possibility of a reimbursement or compensation. We're talking about around $1000. Really? C'mon guys! You're going to lose a lot more than that with a negative review. - Other reviewers mention never having met or even being able to contact the other roommates prior to move-in. Well, guess what? That is exactly right. - Let me add that I was moved around so many times from one apartment to the other and my roommates switched around as well that the end result was... not at all the curated service they promise (I had asked for all female roommates and got a male roommate, I am paying extra for one of the bathrooms and Roomeze never relayed this simple fact to the others, and so on, and so forth). If you are reading this because you are curious about Roomeze and want to vet them before using their services, please remember: I spent 12 nights at random Airbnbs out of my own pocket, went through 2 moves, and was treated with disrespect by one of their agents. I wish that I could rate this business at a ZERO star rating, and not at a one star. However, the realtors were kind, so one star will suffice. Having said that, kindness doesn't do much when you are stranded and having to sleep in your office for a week because of the lack of communication and constant confusion the realtors and upper management seem to always be in. After being promised for months on end that a place was going to be ready for a Jan 15th move in, indeed it wasn't. I was then transferred over to sign for another rental. I was then told the day of lease signing that the place wouldn't be ready for another month or more. This wouldn't be a huge issue if I had somewhere else to go. However, I didnt.... Stephanie, the general manager is a complete buffoon and has absolutely no idea NOR care about how she does her job and the repercussions her lack of awareness have on those around her. I was out 1,000's of dollars and nearly a month of sleep because of this company. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE if you are strict with the day that you can move in. If you have the luxury of coming and going when you please, this could potentially be a viable option. And they were so easy to facilitate the charging of the security deposit however, it's been impossible to receive the security deposit back. It's been over 2 months since i've moved out and have yet to hear back on the security deposit i paid which was over $1000. If you're fine losing your money then go for it. read more

We were just told that this person never signed the lease and we are now responsible for the 3 months of rent and late fees. If Brooke Ann wasn't the kindest human on earth I probably would have lost my mind. One week before I was supposed to sign the lease I was notified my apartment was rented out to someone else and I was heartbroken. My updated review is losing one star because of one reason: Customer service Roomeze works the way most nyc realty works. However, while Kay and Brooke worked their butts off to get me and my roommates setup with a new apartment, the customer service from Kay could have been a lot better. I understand it's a small company, but you need more than one customer service employee- when I got that email I couldn't get in touch with anyone until hours later. I didn't appreciate some of the ways in which I was spoken to, however in such a high stress situation I'm sure there was tension on their end as well as mine. After the conversation got going Kay was good at answering my questions and relieving my stress! I'll say it again: Brooke Ann is phenomenal, very professional, great at what she does. She made me feel so comfortable when she showed me the new apartment! My biggest suggestion to customer service is to please consider being more mindful of your communication. Other than that, I'm left satisfied and happy to have a comfy and cute apartment that I can hopefully move into on Tuesday! read more

The agent I worked with, Brandon M, was incredibly attentive and communicative. I appreciated how he went above and beyond for me. Roomeze promotes "matchmaking" of roommates but I think that only happens successfully if the agent and renters are in touch constantly. Also, there is the risk of not being accepted into your place of choice, so it was a huge help that Roomeze had exclusive showing rights of the apartment I loved. Otherwise I could have lost the apartment while Roomeze spent time searching for my perfect roommates. This company has an interesting business model that works well in NYC, but it does need some improvement. read more

Mikhail Galper was my agent. I had a traumatic experience with a Gypsy housing agent that yes'd me to death. once I paid that agent he disappeared. No updates until move in day which he told me sorry it's not gonna work. I then found Mikhail Galper on Facebook. He was very easy to talk to. We met at the apartment that he offered. He explained the process from a-z. He told me that he will find my roommates that match me. Once I deposited he messaged me daily with updates and potential roommates. He filled the apartment within days, he even arranged a meet and greet with the roommates. the lease was signed and I couldn't be happier. read more

Ridiculously unorganized and unprofessional. To start, I wasn't able to move into my apartment until two weeks after the originally promised move-in date. Apparently there was some confusion and miscommunication between prospective roommates, so Roomeze stuck me and three other completely random people together two weeks later than originally promised. We had no chance to meet before the lease signing, and ended up having NOTHING in common. A lot of tension and negativity between roommates because of the huge differences in our living preferences, and Roomeze mediated nothing. One of the roommates actually up and left about 4-5 months into the lease and no one communicated with the rest of us about whether or not someone would be filling her room, or if she would continue paying her portion of the rent, even after numerous attempts to reach out and clear this up. At the end of the lease all roommates wanted to leave except for me. I loved the apartment--it had a washer, dryer and dishwasher in unit and was in a really great location. Sure, it had been a rough year, but I had hope that the new year would be different with new roommates. Lease was set to end in July, so in mid-April I started asking Roomeze if it was possible for me to stay and get help finding roommate replacements for the new lease. At the end of April/beginning of May they said they'd been authorized by property management to find me roommate replacements and would love to help. Only they didn't help at all. They literally did nothing. I was assigned an agent named Brandon who brought about 4 people to view the apartment one day and then never came back. A couple of times he told me he had scheduled a viewing so I made myself available to let him into the apartment and he never showed. No text, no call, no nothing. Two weeks before the end of the lease Eve from Roomeze support emailed me saying that Brandon was no longer assigned to my case due to "personal circumstances," asking me to remind her when my lease was up. Then Brandon contacted me saying that this wasn't true, that no one told him he was to stop working on my unit and that he was still committed to finding my roommates. After that, Brandon, Eve and another agent, Stephanie, all informed me that the chances of me staying in my apartment at that point were small, and that I should move downstairs into another unit they were tasked to fill, otherwise I risked getting kicked out. Apparently, Brandon was also supposed to fill one room in that downstairs unit, and had failed to do so, so Roomeze was now trying to compensate for a shitty job by yet again sticking me into another unit at the last minute with completely random people. I met the folks downstairs, viewed the apartment, wasn't comfortable. We had completely different living preferences, and the apartment was super small, so I wasn't comfortable signing a 12-month lease there. I let Roomeze know I how I felt about the unit. They responded by basically saying that that was my only choice because they no longer had time to fill my unit. About 6 days before the end of my lease, Stephanie sent me two links to units that needed a room filled. Both rooms were more expensive than all of the rooms in the unit I was living in. I let her know I couldn't afford those options so last minute. I never heard back from her or Brandon. So I was forced to start completely from scratch and had about 5 days to find a place to live. Roomeze had more than 2 months to find 3 people for me to live with and they found me 0 new roommates, after doing a piss poor job of matching me with roommates in the first place. I have no idea why I asked for their help in the first place, but here we are. About 2 days before the end of the lease, the property manager called saying that he had heard about the situation with Roomeze from one of my other roommates and was extremely confused. Roomeze had not communicated any of these things to him. He didn't even have any knowledge of them being authorized to fill my unit. If you want to feel like you're being scammed and toyed with, use Roomeze. If you want someone to help you find a good home with cool roommates you'll get along with for longer than 4 months, look elsewhere, cause Roomeze aint it. read more

I want to take this time to give a good review of Roomeze and compliment them on their hard work and professionalism. I've worked with them since 5 January 2018, as I am now in my second apartment with tenants set up by Roomeze. Sheryl (who has now moved up in the company) was my agent at the time for my first unit, as she helped secure a lovely apartment in Park Slope. She was very professional, friendly, and hospitable throughout the whole process. Although one of the tenants who Sheryl initially teamed me up with did not work out, Roomeze immediately replaced that person with a great roommate who I still keep in touch with today. What was unfortunate with this previous apartment (and I suppose it wasn't Roomeze' fault), is that I was not able to stay in this unit after the lease expired, as the third room was never filled during the whole year. This was partly due to the fact that new management had taken over the building roughly half way throughout my lease, which resulted in their refusal to professionally work with Roomeze in this platform of placing tenants together. Obviously this was a blessing in disguise, since I moved into a much better location (where I am now), with 2 amazing roommates, having an amazing view of NYC, as this apartment feels much more home to me than the current one (Although at my previous place, my roommate and I were able to stay in that 3 bedroom unit for one year, which we were lucky!). Dana was our agent for this current property, and like Sheryl, she was very helpful, supportive and professional to secure a lease for us from the 1st of February. I couldn't be more grateful for this situation, so I'm happy that Roomeze has continued to assist me on my journey as a NYC tenant. I do feel though Roomeze could have room for growth (though still happy to give a 5 star rating), as communication between Roomeze and landlords, management companies should be more clear before a tenant moves into a property, and before signing a lease. Also, there could be better ways for tenants to contact Roomeze' staff at the office to speak about concerns, questions, etc., though I understand it's a small company, as they just started a few years back. I should also mention that Eve, who is head of customer support at Roomeze, works her tail off to support tenants throughout all their apartment locations, so I commend her for taking on such a huge role with extreme high demands. I have also spoken to the founder of the company, Richard, who was also very supportive and professional. I have read through other reviews of Roomeze, both good and bad, as I understand that renting in New York City and dealing with landlords, living with tenants could be a tricky and an unstable process...However, with my experience, I have been rather pleased with Roomeze and will continue to work with them if necessary. Although Roomeze could use some professional feedback for growth and advancement, I feel their platform is already doing very well, and I could only speculate that this company will grow and succeed higher as they go along. read more

I would not suggest using this company for your relocation/apartment needs. I found them by chance on a Craigslist ad. It's a third party and makes things much more complicated than is needed as finding an apartment in New York is already complicated enough. I reached out via their "newly" updated website - so new that the kinks haven't been worked out - and didn't hear back for a full week. Then when I finally received a reply the person who originally contacted me didn't respond to my futile attempts of communication and had a colleague reach out to me. She was responsive and seemed helpful at first offering me other apartments "I meant be interested in." I expressed interest and ask to see them. Days went by after I gave her my availability to view the apartments she said she was out of town on the weekend (I emailed on a Friday - also, even basic email servers have automated out of office responses) On a Tuesday she finally contacted me and said she could show me the apartment Friday afternoon. Friday comes along and I reached out to her at 9 am to confirm the showing. She didn't respond to me until 11:30 am to tell me she didn't think she could make it without offering a time to reschedule. At this point I was annoyed and frustrated because I already put down a partial deposit as well as an application fee on an apartment I hadn't seen. (The location and price were PERFECT for me before you judge me putting down money - I guess I had faith or misplaced hope!) fast forward I finally saw the apartment got my application in and magically there's three other people in the apartment. The roomeze rep said I could look on their website to see people's profiles. There was little to nothing written on any of their profiles besides age and the fact that they had no pets so it's unclear to me how they did any matching. After approval I decided to cut my loses and not move forward with the process. Sorry to the other roommates but the urgency that the rep expressed when she wanted the paperwork means there are plenty of other interested parties to take my spot in the apartment. TL;DR - go directly through a buildings management company roomeze is a third party pretending to be a roommate matchmaking service. No evidence of roommate matchmaking except the ads statements on their website. read more

I rarely feel the need to review, but Roomeze really deserves the recognition. We all know how difficult it is to find an apartment and a suitable roommate in NYC. It's a crazy hassle that always keeps you up at night and makes you question why there isn't an easier way. That's why when I was able to get in contact with Jordan and he navigated the whole process for me seamlessly, I just felt obligated to let people know that there is finally a company that can make this process easy and enjoyable. I think Roomeze is a good idea and Stephanie was great. The apartment was new and clean the price was right and the approval process was easy. However after living in the apartment for a year and having two roommates that I cannot stand. What Roomeze failed to do is really interview the roommates and make sure you can live together and get along. Some people are quiet, and do not have to have parties and guest every night while each person is entitled to each life style these two types of people should not live together. They need a better screening process of finding roommates that have similar lifestyles to live together. read more

Where are all these 5 stars coming from???!!! Did they pay you for good reviews? I was in a desperate situation. I found a room for rent on Gypsy Housing on fb for $450. At the time, I wasnt making much money and I needed a place by May1st, so I went to see the place. The room is small and has a BOARDED UP WINDOW. I have no other options, so I put a deposit down and do the application. I give them all the requested paperwork. I'm told I'm approved...but they need more paperwork. Ok, so I send it in. Then I'm told I'm approved again, but the rent is now $500. I have a new job paying over twice what I was making before and I kept my old job as well, so no worries. Then they can't find the landlord. Then they find him and I'm approved again...but they need more paperwork. Now I'm REALLY approved this time. Come to the office and sign the lease, and bring 2 certified checks with you. One for Roomeze (which in the paperwork that I received from my deposit, it stated that $100 of the deposit went to Roomeze anyway, why am I giving you more money?) and the other for the landlord. I get to the office and ask about meeting the landlord, the broker replies about the super. No, I asked about meeting the landlord. I had to work when the landlord was at the office the day before. The broker is in a rush to have me sign the lease without reading it. I start to read it. It states that I'm receiving the keys. So I ask, where are the keys? He retorts that the keys where given to my roommate. I will not sign a document that states I've received keys when I did not. He calls the roommate and can not find her. This was yesterday. Today, I ask if the keys will be ready. He says that he cant get them yet but people were at the apartment yesterday. Um...NO! You couldnt get ahold of anyone yesterday, remember? So, here I am. Out $500, "approved," waiting on keys so I can sign the lease agreement and hand over the 2 certified checks. Is this really good business? People really meant to give this company 5 stars? This is nothing but a headache. Plus, I wrote the owner of the company and he basically could care less. ****Update**** 5/2/2017 So I finally received the keys, signed the lease, and am moving in. Apparently, there are 2 owners whom are friends and founded the company together. The one that handles the customer service aspect was out of the country during this entire ordeal. He did apologize for the way I was treated and offered to refund my broker fee. He asked that I also change my yelp review. So, while I updated my review, I can not in good conscience change the rating past one more star due to the nature of his emailed correspondence thereafter. That is only because he did offer to refund my broker fee. I'm grateful that I found such a low rental. I just wish the customer service was better. I waited a year to get the full experience before posting. I wouldn't recommend anyone use this service. I was shown my room (which was listed as a bedroom) while it was still under construction and was told I'd have a door. I went to move in and no door for my room. I was the only woman with two male roommates. I told Roomeze and they told me to contact building management who told me it was an office. I explained to them that it was listed as a bedroom and had to wait a week. I did not get retropay for my rent. Then their was constant plumbing problems and no heat for months on end. Everytime I contacted Eve (or whatever her name is) I was told to speak to building management. I paid $200 so that Eve would deal with that (as advertised). Roomeze turned out to be useless because they offered NO HELP. Also when one roommate left I was told that the remaining roommates had to pay his rent! I refused because that was not in the lease, but we were basically threatened to take who over wanted the empty room or pay that rent. Every other time the room wad being shown I wad given an hour notice asking me to be there for the room to be shown. I work. To pay rent. So that was not happening. They eventually just used the spare key. There is no roommate compatibility test or whatever. Whoever wants a room and can pay will get it. The roommate that did stay was some weirdo who pretended not to be home the first day so that I could get a copy of the key, always pretended I was not there even though I stood in front of him saying hello and never responded to my texts, phone calls or emails regarding the apartment (except when we were told to pay for the empty room, then he threatened to move out). I complained multiple times to Roomeze about him because he kept the bathroom disgustingly dirty and NEVER cleaned. I was told that Eve would speak to him and he still didn't clean. I even tried talking to him. He was just some weird, dirty guy who I honestly did not feel safe around. When I asked Roomeze about finding someplace else I was told I would have to pay a month's rent ($950) so that someone could look for a place for me or if I found a place on my own I would have to continue to pay rent and find someone to occupy the room...What kind of bullshit is that?! Before taking the room I was initially told that if it didn't work out they would either find a different roommate or find a different room for me. I spent alot of nights crying because of the horrible treatment. They only care about money and nothing else. They only thing they do that's advertised is find you a room, nothing more. read more

She went out of her way to do a showing for me, broke down how Roomeze works in terms of arranging roommates, explained the payments that I would have to make. I was 15 minutes late to my appointment (which I was in the wrong for) but I kept communication open. I informed him I would be late and received no reply. When I was almost there I called him and kept calling him - no reply. I received a text that he left and that I was 20 minutes late - which was incorrect because I was only 10 minutes late as stated in my previous text. I'm pretty sure he did not show up. Yes, I was late but he could had simply said - if you are late I can't show you the place. I took the bus during a pandemic to view this place. Also, it was so unprofessional that he asked me for my Instagram and Facebook. Further, why did he ask me to reactivate my Instagram. So, avoid Roomeze by all cost. read more

This review is for Richie from Roomeze, who helped me secure a lease on an apartment in Bed-Stuy. It seems as if Roomeze also deal with general real estate in NYC, and not just roommate matching. I can't speak for the other Roomeze services, so my review is for the experience of leasing an apartment through Richie in this crazy town in the middle of Godawful NYC summer and real estate scammage galore. Richie showed me a 1BR apartment in Bed-Stuy, which I loved, but was still above my original price range for both monthly rent and broker's fee. I jumped the gun and committed to it, and later recalled my deposit because I realized I did it on impulse and should have stuck to my original budget. Based on previous experiences, I expected Richie to try to keep my deposit, or write me off, and give me the usual broker spiel of 'whatever, this will be rented tomorrow, I'm showing it to three thousand people this evening...', but he didn't. He hung in there with me, worked with my budget, helped negotiate $100 off the advertised rent with the landlord for me, plus a much more reasonable broker fee (broker fees here in the US still amaze me, considering you find the damn apartment posting yourself and are paying for someone to unlock the damn door for you.....but I digress). Most importantly, he wasn't an a-hole. Super refreshing. Crap attitude just makes this already awful process even worse, and he was great throughout. Super happy with everything. Do not rent through this company. They lied about the rent price to both us and our roommates through 2 different brokers. We didn't get a key until 3 days after move in. In the meantime they let us borrow there broker copy that they told us to make copies of but wasn't able to be copies because it was a master key. Our broker told us we were overwhelming her because we wanted information on why our lease was more than we agreed and when we would be receiving keys to our apartment 2 days before move in. Do not trust them or their brokers. Also $200 application fee. They say their going to be involve in the process but couldn't even tell us when we would receive the lease if we were approved, when and how we would get keys and what our correct rent price was. Roomeze is a wonderful service. I had the absolute pleasure of working with Danielle on behalf of my daughter. I live far away and we were able to accomplish everything in spite of this. Her follow-through was impeccable and she went beyond-the-call-of-duty to get my daughter in the apartment she wanted in Brooklyn. There were lots of obstacles along the way, (like a sudden change in roommates before they even moved in!!!), many unexpected challenges with keys and more, but Danielle rolled with it and got us through it, resulting in successfully getting my daughter moved in. She was available at any time of day, even on a big holiday! My daughter moved into her beautiful apartment and I cannot recommend Danielle and this company enough. Considering the fact that Roomeze ONLY has 5 star reviews made me a bit concerned. Also because I've seen a couple reviews that looked VERY similar to another real estate service... However, after a bit of facebook stalking, I decided they were a legit business. Lost a star: I worked with Eric, who was not very helpful. I barely talked to him. I asked him if he would let me meet the roommates. He told me that would be too much work to arrange and not possible. HELLO? I thought with Roomeze, the whole point was to be able to get a room and be able to meet the random strangers (soon to be roommates) and make sure we'd all be able to live together (making sure they're not serial killers or something). But NO, it was "too complicated". What about the whole, making sure the roommates are compatible?? I was actually really surprised at lack of questions asked about me and my personality, if I was a night owl or morning person, etc. There was really no communication between me and my future roommates, which I think would be what Roomeze is supposed to be about. I just wanted to know what they already brought and what I should have brought from home. Eric basically let another girl, Rachel, handle the whole thing. Plus two stars: Rachel however, was amazing and answered all of my questions immediately. ALSO, be warned. They ask you for a deposit BEFORE doing the application. If you read the fine print in the application, they say the deposit will not be returned (unless the application is denied). When I read this, I almost cancelled my deposit (they asked via venmo and I don't think it had actually quite gone through yet). You can't ask me for a deposit and not give it back before I sign the application. Ugh shady. Lost the rest of the stars: Bait and switch times two I initially responded to a craigslist add that was for an apartment costing $950. Also, when I checked on the roomeze website, the price correlated. However, when talking to Roomeze about the rooms and prices. Apparently that room was already taken and there was a room for $1000 available. I wasn't too thrilled about the fact that the room they were advertising was not available and were in reality showing apartments not shown in the picture. Rachel was great and gave me a video tour of the room. However, the next day when I was going to apply. They told me that the $1000 room was not available anymore and there was a $1100 room instead. So basically I went from a room that I actually wanted ($950) to another room that would cost $150 more each month. In addition, the description promised a bike rack and laundry machine in the building (two of the main reasons I picked this apartment), which have yet to be seen anywhere... Unfortunately I was desperate to find a place and so I went through Roomeze. I guess the only real perk of using them is the fact that there is no brokers fee. Rightly so because if I did have to pay, I would not have used them. All in all, I might reuse Roomeze if I was desperate again. As in, I have one week to find a place to live. Which was the situation I was in. UPDATE: Somehow they got a hold of my father's phone number and have been calling him constantly, which is personally a little creepy and abuse of power. I'm not even sure if his phone number was a part of the application or not. So they had to search hard for it read more
