We worked with Amanda as first time home buyers looking for a coop apartment in Brooklyn. When we first met Amanda, our impression was that she is extremely patient and not at all pushy. Steer far away from Awaye Realty. Right off the bat, the picture in the listing didn't match the apartment (and the broker played dumb about it), the broker was very high pressure, and kept telling me about how "hot" all the apartments he had were. When I went to sign the lease, he and one of the other people working at the office kept chatting back and forth about how awesome it was that I got the apartment, you know the one that "50 people kept calling about." Then, I needed to pop into the apartment one more time to measure it, and my realtor didn't get in touch with the tenant to make that happen, despite having a month and a half to do so (and my repeated asking). I kept pestering him, and now I'm just two days from moving in, and still haven't measured the apartment and don't even have a date to pick up the keys. Run from this place. If I could do this all again, I'd go talk to a few realtors beforehand, although I'm beginning not to trust realtors at all. read more

From the first telephone conversation with Arlene, I felt quite at ease. My Mom had passed, and my sisters and I were selling her house. We were shown and apartment that was available for 9/1 and after handing over $100 for background and credit checks, we were suddenly told the apartment needs to be rented 8/14, non-negotiable. This was only the beginning... After proceeding to sign the lease and hand over a massive fee, an agent named Angela did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING she said she would do when we saw the apartment. We had a list of fixes that we were assured would be taken care of by our move in date. Were they done? NO, Why? Because she neglected to tell the landlord when our move in date was! And I paid a fee for WHAT?!? Buyers & renter beware. These people will give you the spiel and then steal. Totally unscrupulous and dishonest. read more

She was completely unprofessional, pushy, and more interested in her commission than getting me a good price and representing me as a client. My boyfriend really appreciated him and his constant contact during our move to Bay Ridge. OMG, one of the worst real estate agents I have ever worked with. I wish I could give them no stars. Her name is Edythe, first she completely tells us the incorrect value of our home, then asks us to send her the keys (which is a good thing) so that she can do open houses. She finds some ignorant buyers who thought they would die because of cell towers on the roof. But that is a different story... so once we were having conversations with the buyer, Edythe told our current tenant to vacate our home without consulting with us... of course the tenant moved and the seller never signed... after that, she almost stopped working on the apartment... now we have no tenant and the house is on sale... at this time i had to let her go because to be honest, she is USELESS. I asked her for my home key back and guess what? she threw them out. Really, is it even legal? what if someone gets a hold of them and easily gets in the building... He kept on talking and never aced what I was looking for or what I needed. He was laying it kinda thick with his sales talk which made me feel very weary of his ways. A local, boutique agency where I could get personalized attention and direction. I do not live in the neighborhood so I was looking to the real estate agency to guide me through the process. They took their time and helped me price the house correctly and get it ready for sale. Although it was not really part of their job, they worked with the tenants and helped them with their transition. It was a great help to me knowing that they were local and there when I needed them. I could not recommend Dimitri from Awaye enough. I could not imagine a more knowledgable, comforting, and professional liaison to assist in the brokerage. Not only did he help me find a property within my budget (not so easy in Carroll Gardens), he was also able to negotiate down to a monthly rent I was far more comfortable with. As I was making plans for move at the relative last minute, I found myself somewhat on edge while I was waiting to hear back from the prospective landlords. Dimitri spent no less than an hour on the phone with me the day before ultimately signing the lease in order to spell out everything and quell my fears.
