I scheduled a showing with for an apartment on a Monday morning. The showing was canceled because the apartment "wasn't ready," which I understood. I followed up and we rescheduled for Friday at 7 p.m.--a time I confirmed and planned around. However, when I reached out again the day before to reconfirm, I was told the apartment had already been sold. No one informed me of this beforehand. Had I not checked in, I might have shown up for a showing that no longer existed. I found the communication unprofessional and disappointing. In a competitive market, people's time and planning matter--and this felt like it was treated casually. I also sent an email to express how I felt, and it went unanswered. I hope others have a better experience, but this situation left me with a poor impression. read more

Just an update. Yesterday I called almost everyone that was listed on the site to try and get in contact with Cristian. (My thought process was that if they're all under the same company they should have each other's work number or something) Yes it was a holiday however some real estate companies were open, and I even went to view an apartment yesterday with another agency. I was disgusted when I called Kim looking for help and guidance and was met with "what are you apologizing for because it's a holiday? I'm still answering the phone" when I tried to tell her my dilemma about how I've called the office and left voicemail, emailed, etc. she continued to tell me "call and email them it's a holiday try next week" after I told her countless times I had done those things for months now. She then proceeded to rudely say "it's a holiday I can't talk". I would have rather her answered the phone and stated it's a holiday I'm off can you please call me back tomorrow or not answer the phone at all. I was just looking for help and guidance and was met with disrespect. I hope she enjoyed her holiday. In dealing with Marina of Sovereign Associates, I was initially very pleased and excited at the prompt response from Marina in helping myself and my roommates move. However, while this process started off strong initially, it would be the only moment that ended up being comfortable with myself and my roommates. What became normal was a lack of up front communication and a plethora of 'I don't know' answers. Our attempts to communicate with Marina about specific questions were met with rudeness, excuses, and deflection of responsibility and no following through. When we were told we were all set for our apartment the day before, we were then told on the day of receiving our keys that we were NOT all set. Even now to this moment we are dealing with the inconveniences left behind by Marina and by extension Sovereign Associates. Marina was a horrendous broker. If you have the opportunity to use any other company, please do so for your own benefit. She was untrustworthy, non-communicative, and lied frequently. Her answers to every question were "I don't know" or straight up lies. The worst broker any of us have ever worked with. Do yourself a favor and call Triplemint and ask for Ryan Watanabe. He was the best. She neglected to check that every document was sent in before move in and instead gave us the green light without confirming which caused no end of convenience on the day of move in. When we were promised three sets of keys on our move in date, she only gave us one without a mailbox key. I wouldn't even recommend Marina to my worst enemy after the stress she caused. The owner tried and I got a newsletter on their properties for sale but one agent I spoke with there totally dropped the ball and never followed up with me when I expressed interest in particular apartments. This owner also ticked me off later by claiming that I should just throw my hard earned money away on rentals that wouldn't allow pets and that I had no right to insist on being able to get a cat in my new space. That seems quite contrary to the customer service experience or encouraging anybody to want to work with you. Is it because they deal with no fee properties so there's no commission incentive to concern themselves with?? Who knows? Regardless, I'd avoid after that treatment. read more

I need to edit my old review to make it match my most current experience. After writing my first review, the owner was kind enough to reach out to me personally and apologize. It turns out it was a huge miscommunication! I am happy to report that Grace quickly rescheduled and apologized for the miscommunication. Grace showed me about 6 apartments back to back and answered all of my questions. Although, we did not find my home yet, Grace listened to me intently and said she would do some research and get back to me. If you do happen to have a negative experience with this company, I highly recommend reaching out to the owner directly before quickly writing a review like I did. The owner Greg is so kind, understanding, and seems to be an accomplished business owner that values customer service. Zero stars for this company. Was forced to give one... Greg (owner) should be ashamed of himself aswell as the employee under his direction ( Christian). They 100% did not give me a fair chance and broke some laws in the process. I reached out trying to apply for an apartment with a housing voucher (beware of how they operate if doing so) (Renthop was used to find this apartment ) Via email, Greg told me someone named Christian will be handling the showing and gave me his number to schedule. His worker was said to be CC'd in this email. I never heard from Christian. The email did contain his info but he did not respond to my call or messages. I noticed infact that he was not CC'd on the email after all. I brought this to Gregs attention. The following day I finally heard from Christian. He told me I was to go on the website (that I was never told about) and schedule a tour during their open house hours. I said I was confused, this is not what Greg said to do. I thought if this was supposed to happen in this way why would Greg say what he said about scheduling the tour. In this email Christian sent I noticed the adress was changed in the subject line regarding the unit. He Edited East to say "West" but only changed the first letter resulting in "Wast" ?!?!? Not a typo. Was an attempted change! Christian gave me a few lame excuses why he was non communitive/communicating horribly...Moving along, I told him I didnt know what website he was referring to to apply for this open house and asked if he could just schedule a time. I have open availability. He came back and said "so you said your only available after 5 correct" I said No, I never said that. Again I told him whatever time works, just schedule it and let me know. He told me to give him 15 minutes to talk with the super about viewing the unit. He said he was on his way there. Not even 5 minutes later he tells me that the unit was rented the previous day (when he was MIA) At this point to many red flags had been shown and I proceeded to report him and let him know I was doing so. I told Greg what happened and he tried to tell me Christian was new and didn't know how to operate yet. Had a hard time buying that. I then recieved an apology letter from Christian. To me it sounded insincere and was written as an excuse to get away with the shady business going on. ( by the way, reading other reviews it sounds like this apology letter is a company strategy ) figures!!! I went on to ask Greg if they were doing something illegal and not giving me a fair chance. I explained that things were ok untill Christian was out in the picture. Moving forward I came out and asked the owner Greg if he would give me a fair chance (as the law says he's supposed to) and help me see, apply and get into a place. The man that everyone says is so great and communicates fast (and he does) disappeared. I sent one message, no response. Second message same thing. Third time, I said to be fair, I will give you untill the end of your workday to answer the question "are you going to work with me and give me a fair chance" He has not responded for 3 hours and doesnt look as though he is. Loud and clear Gregory Healy with his actions has told me he will not provide a fair chance for me at housing. Breaking the law and going against what he claims his companys policy is and stands for.... Congratulations on extremely poor service. Hope justice is served! They passed us along to a management company, NJ Manager, that refuses to give us our security deposit(not because of damage to the apartment, ) sent all of our social security numbers out in the same document, and they messed up the transfer so that we were charged a late fee for rent we paid on time (a week before we even moved in). When Josh thought we might renew he was happy to contact us, but as soon as I asked for information about our lease ending he said it wasn't his business. And we paid a huge brokers fee. So if you want good service or a good deal, I'd be a bit wary of this company, they'll set you up with a lemon. NJ Manager is practically impossible to contact, and sovereign associates passed us to them, so I hold them responsible as well. read more

If you're looking for an apartment in Hudson Heights, Gregory Healy has your property. He gave us exactly what we wanted, where we wanted, and without requiring Rhino or a guarantor (even though our application circumstances were less than favorable). Our research took place along the A Line from 115 up to 190. We looked with several companies (1-br/$2100 max). If you want a large unit/elevator building in a clean/quiet neighborhood you really have to go with Gregory as he is extremely knowledgeable about Hudson Heights. Our only challenge: His communication style. Sometimes he was really responsive while other times we thought he was blowing us off (which was very stressful). This the only reason for the 4 star review... but he really did come through for us and we would recommend him to any friend moving into the area. It doesn't get more straight forward than that. It shows nothing about being rented eight months ago. How / why would the app offer the option to "contact the agent" if it was already leased? And now after my inquiry the posting has been corrected. Seems convenient but let's chalk it up to technology glitches. I certainly wasn't searching for occupied apartments. That wouldn't solve my housing problem. I immediately replied that I wasn't interested in any other apartment than the one listed. Furthermore, while I appreciate a quick response, nothing in their original response stated the posting was incorrect. This could have easily been rectified and corrected in the first response. I've been renting for over 30 years, so I understand a point of view with experience. This is a game and time is up on placing blame or holding renters captive, ensnared or baited. Case in point: instead of an apology and a message of thanking me for bringing the incorrect posting on the app to their attention (I haven't a clue how that works nor do I care), they automatically point this back at me? Thanks for the concern about my current situation. I'll solve it elsewhere. BEWARE. Total bait & switch routine. Listings are suddenly not available but they conveniently have something less for a higher price. Move on. It is not worth the effort. It is time leasing agents worked for good tenants. BEWARE! I was scammed by this brokerage firm. Another tenant told me he was defrauded by them as well, and told me that it has happened to others. Sovereign Associates told me that a rent payment was missing, and asked for the rent payment via Paypal to be passed along to landlord. I paid the landlord via cheque as well, so I essentially paid twice for rent. The brokerage firm won't refund me. There were also other discrepancies with deposit, issues with move in dates, and other problems. read more

During the three days after submitting our application for the apartment we fell in love with, Michael stayed in constant communication with us as he visited our Landlady in person to expedite our approval. Michael's tactics are aggressive in getting his clients into the apartments they fall in love with, but his demeanor is everything but. My partner and I were very turned off by other brokers who seemed detached and pushy, and Michael is opposite of that. And let's just say until Greg Healy and Sovereign came into my life, I legitimately thought I would have to live in a box on a street corner before finding a three bedroom apartment under $3k. Not joking, I lost hundreds (MULTIPLES of hundreds) of dollars with shitty brokers and craigs list scams (all of the horror stories about rentals in the city are True with a huge giant capital T). But you know what? Sovereign found one for me, and you know what else? IT WAS UNDER MY EXPECTED BUDGET. WAYYY under. Oh and what else? I didn't get fluff and rose colored glasses, and got exactly what I was looking for with exactly what I could afford! AND there was no fee!!!! But did that make Greg care less? Of course not. He kept it real, and real is fine by me when in renting, because a miscommunication can lead to a $1500 mistake. OH I'm not done- fast forward 2 years and Greg finds me another apartment, again UNDER budget and PERFECT. Fee this time, but the deal I got was so friggen fantastic I won't ruin your life by sharing it. So simple, and no secrets. He worked with my schedule and was honest with me the whole time, and able to make sure I was in the best situation possible to get what I wanted. He read my personality right off the bat and easily knew which places would suit my interests, so he waisted no time showing me things that were the right fit (especially considering how particular I can be). I never got the sense that he just wanted to put me in an apt and close the deal. Jordan was reliable in his response time, and focused despite how fast we were moving and how much he was juggling between viewings . I'm most grateful that he was so transparent, trustworthy, cognizant, and efficient. I found my rental the first day we started our search, and I wasn't in a rush, but opportunity and timing seemed to have matched perfectly! Oh, and I'm a pet a parent, so it was really amazing to see how he kept it together professionally while mourning the loss of his dog of 10+ years!
