Conclusion: Definitely 5 star restaurant and my go-to option for Chinese food in Berkeley area either for a quick bite myself or a friends gathering & date night. The Yunnan over-the-bridge and Jiangxi stir-fry are my favorites also the house specials. I recently tried the Spicy potato salad and Hunan hot & Sour. Solid choices and beyond my expectation. Plus you can turn some dishes to the lunch special under $9. It is like a steal. The variety and quality of food is the top-level. The environment is more like high-end but the price is on the budget. Just look at the menu and photos of the food; you will get the idea. Service is friendly and the owner can actually explain the ingredients and flavors to you if you ask. Background: I have been a returning customer since I was a student at UC Berkeley from their first restaurant located in El Cerrito and so glad they have opened the 2nd one in Downtown Berkeley. Have been these 2 locations so many times and they never turned me down. I have a Chinese stomach and so can tell that they use the real ingredients and have authentic flavors. Have recommended to many friends and they all love it. The variety, quality/flavor, and price of noodles fresh you basically can't get somewhere else. If people put a general benchmark as the P.F. As someone who is always craving Taiwanese food, I love the beef noodle soup. The noodles are the right q-ness, and the broth is pretty balanced. The meat is tender and also includes some tendon. Yum! My picky kids also surprisingly ate it up really quickly. We've always picked up food from there, but when we can dine in with the kids more, the restaurant ambience will be good for a nice dinner with friends. read more

What can I say - this is around the corner from my apartment and I've been 3 times in 2 weeks now. I loved their first location in El Cerrito and am overjoyed to have a Berkeley location. Service is friendly and incredibly efficient (seriously my soups have come out within 15mins), they have a great range of menu options, atmosphere is open and modern, and most importantly their food is delicious and plentiful. If you're looking for Chinese appetizers, sauce noodles, noodle soups, and rice dishes - this is your spot. What I've had on each of my visits: 1. Yunnan over the bridge: This is a super clean noodle soup! I was thinking this would be the perfect dish if you're under the weather. The soup itself could use a bit more flavor, but I think its lack of extra spice sand ingredients makes it a great option if you're looking for something cleaner. 2. Taiwan beef noodle soup: Seems like this is their most popular dish and I can see why. The beef broth is super flavorful and they are generous with the meat. I seriously couldn't get enough. Scallion Pancakes: Such a great shared appetizer! It's a little thinner than most scallion pancakes and has a great crunch to it. 3. Sichuan chili fish noodle soup: My second favorite of the 3 soups I've had here. I'm a wuss when it comes to spice so I got it mild and it was just perfect. Loved the fish fillets in the soup and the thick rice noodles. I never wanted it to end. Looks like they have happy hour specials and a great range of drinks. Thoughts: My friend and I had wanted to try this place since it first opened, and finally we came here for lunch on a Monday (the day before the shelter-in-place order went into effect). Upon entering the restaurant, we noticed that the ambiance was more on the upscale side, similar to that of Great China. My friend ordered Jiangxi noodle salad and I ordered Yunnan over-the-bridge. Jiangxi noodle salad: 3.5/5 Yunnan over-the-bridge: 3.5/5 Overall, both of the dishes were not bad, but somehow both my friend and I found that the flavor was in general a bit light and it was more on the bland side. Given all the other great reviews, maybe the food was not for our palates? Rounded up to a 4 because the ambiance and the service are great! Tips: 1. I like the Jiangxi rice noodle. Noodle is perfectly cooked, toping is good too. Their chili oil is tasty, adds a lot flavors to the noodle and the beef tendons. Service is good. I really like the red tea they serve and bought a bag. read more

Overall 4.5/5 -- bumped up because I like this restaurant, its staff, and ambiance so much :') ** Food+Price (4.7/5) ** I'm not giving it a 5/5 just because I can't honestly say that Everything on its menu is Amazing ™ or that it's my Favorite (!!) place to eat, but it sure does come close. I do really like it and it's the kind of place that I would recommend to my friends. My partner got the taiwanese beef noodle soup and really really liked it -- I think he would give that dish a 5/5. He said the broth was very good and authentic (similar to the ones he'd get back in Taiwan). The meat was cooked well too! He called it "homey" and second only to his mom's haha. He got another noodle dish last time and also really enjoyed it too -- name is escaping me, but it was something like hot & sour/spicy noodles. I got a scallion noodle last time and thought it was pretty good, and tried their shaolin temple fried rice this time (it sounded interesting and I was curious to see what it was from when I went to their El Cerrito location). I think I probably should've stuck to their noodle dishes, given their name is "Noodle Fresh" haha. The fried rice wasn't bad by any means -- it was definitely still a good bowl of rice (perfectly firm rice, nice egg shards throughout, and some interesting additions like broccoli). Alone the egg was a little salty, but together with the rice it was good! It just wasn't anything super special, but I'm not sure what I expected given it is just egg fried rice in the end. They have a few vegetarian options which was nice, but I would personally like to see more Especially in the noodle soup category! The portions are quite big and are definitely (!) worth the price -- each dish lands around $10-13 iirc, and for the quality + portion, I'd say that's pretty hard to come by in Berkeley. ** Ambiance + Service (4.5/5) ** The restaurant itself has a really nice interior -- it's really open & spacious. Great prices across the whole menu - everything seemed pretty affordable since it's so close to a university. There a lot of options to order. Service was quick and easy, seated quickly, took our order fast as well, and the wait for the dishes didn't feel too long. At my table of 4, two of us ordered the Taiwan beef soup, one ordered jiangxi stir fry, and one ordered the Hainan chicken rice. Total came out to $60 which is around what I expect to pay for 4 people these days. Not sure how the stir fry and Hainan chicken tasted, so I can only review on my dish - the Taiwan beef soup. It's not the best food we've ever had but it was enjoyable. The best dish was the lamb stew. It is herbaceous and has a great lamb flavor. The spicy fish stew wasn't very flavorful. I like the scallion pancake, it was very crispy although it needed to be served with a sauce, it was bland without it. The eggrolls are nothing special. Hainan chicken was fine. My kid liked sweet and sour chicken. Skip the chicken wings, they're not very well seasoned. It's a lovely location and the service was fine. I don't know that I would make a special trip to go back but it's inexpensive and just fine. read more

Yes, my palate's home away from home. I've only tried the vegetarian dishes so that means we've tried 7 dishes. The 8th dish, dessert, they need to change because it's brought in from elsewhere...maybe don't tell me that and just tell me a plump fairy who speaks not in words but through butter and dough and red bean paste layered it together like in the OG Sleeping Beauty Disney movie. My favorite are the appetizers (spring roll, scallion pancake, spicy cabbage, vegetarian salted duck, etc) as they're like savory tapas. And they keep well in the fridge because we are gluttonous Uber Eaters. Ambience is good and maybe a bit more unique than most Chinese places as they have a tea shop that seems to offer tastings in the back. We will be back. Came here to order takeout a couple of times during COVID and loved it! Their portions are huge and I'm able to order one thing and eat it for 2 meals. My favorite is the Jiang Xi Stir Fry which has my favorite noodles along with a great sauce and delicious steak included. There's also a vegetarian option that includes eggs instead of steak if you're not into too much meat. This restaurant also has your basic beef noodle soup, szechuan dishes and basic chinese dishes. Came here on a whim for weekly takeout excursion during covid and am glad we did! Definitely one of the better Chinese food places I've tried in Berkeley in recent memory. The noodles are definitely the star attraction and all the noodle dishes we've tried so far have all been delicious. From stir fry style to soup noodle can't go wrong with noodles.
