At my table of 4, two of us ordered the Taiwan beef soup, one ordered jiangxi stir fry, and one ordered the Hainan chicken rice. Total came out to $60 which is around what I expect to pay for 4 people these days. Not sure how the stir fry and Hainan chicken tasted, so I can only review on my dish - the Taiwan beef soup. Admittedly, compared to other Taiwan beef soups I've had, the one here is pretty bland. What can I say - this is around the corner from my apartment and I've been 3 times in 2 weeks now. I loved their first location in El Cerrito and am overjoyed to have a Berkeley location. Service is friendly and incredibly efficient (seriously my soups have come out within 15mins), they have a great range of menu options, atmosphere is open and modern, and most importantly their food is delicious and plentiful. If you're looking for Chinese appetizers, sauce noodles, noodle soups, and rice dishes - this is your spot. What I've had on each of my visits: 1. Yunnan over the bridge: This is a super clean noodle soup! I was thinking this would be the perfect dish if you're under the weather. The soup itself could use a bit more flavor, but I think its lack of extra spice sand ingredients makes it a great option if you're looking for something cleaner. 2. Taiwan beef noodle soup: Seems like this is their most popular dish and I can see why. The beef broth is super flavorful and they are generous with the meat. I seriously couldn't get enough. Scallion Pancakes: Such a great shared appetizer! It's a little thinner than most scallion pancakes and has a great crunch to it. 3. Sichuan chili fish noodle soup: My second favorite of the 3 soups I've had here. I'm a wuss when it comes to spice so I got it mild and it was just perfect. Noodles are my go-to comfort food and I am so happy that such a delicious noodle place opened in Berkeley. The restaurant is incredibly spacious and great for group meals. Thoughts: My friend and I had wanted to try this place since it first opened, and finally we came here for lunch on a Monday (the day before the shelter-in-place order went into effect). Upon entering the restaurant, we noticed that the ambiance was more on the upscale side, similar to that of Great China. My friend ordered Jiangxi noodle salad and I ordered Yunnan over-the-bridge. Jiangxi noodle salad: 3.5/5 Yunnan over-the-bridge: 3.5/5 Overall, both of the dishes were not bad, but somehow both my friend and I found that the flavor was in general a bit light and it was more on the bland side. It is hard to believe that a Chinese cafe would sell Mapo Tofu without rice on the side. You have to order rice separately (while there's plenty of dishes on the menu that comes with rice) for $2 more, otherwise you will just be eating salt. Edit: look at the owner's attitude. It's not the best food we've ever had but it was enjoyable. The best dish was the lamb stew. It is herbaceous and has a great lamb flavor. The spicy fish stew wasn't very flavorful. I like the scallion pancake, it was very crispy although it needed to be served with a sauce, it was bland without it. The eggrolls are nothing special. Hainan chicken was fine. My kid liked sweet and sour chicken. Skip the chicken wings, they're not very well seasoned. It's a lovely location and the service was fine. Yes, my palate's home away from home. I've only tried the vegetarian dishes so that means we've tried 7 dishes. The 8th dish, dessert, they need to change because it's brought in from elsewhere...maybe don't tell me that and just tell me a plump fairy who speaks not in words but through butter and dough and red bean paste layered it together like in the OG Sleeping Beauty Disney movie. My favorite are the appetizers (spring roll, scallion pancake, spicy cabbage, vegetarian salted duck, etc) as they're like savory tapas. And they keep well in the fridge because we are gluttonous Uber Eaters. Ambience is good and maybe a bit more unique than most Chinese places as they have a tea shop that seems to offer tastings in the back. We will be back. Came here to order takeout a couple of times during COVID and loved it! Their portions are huge and I'm able to order one thing and eat it for 2 meals. My favorite is the Jiang Xi Stir Fry which has my favorite noodles along with a great sauce and delicious steak included. There's also a vegetarian option that includes eggs instead of steak if you're not into too much meat. This restaurant also has your basic beef noodle soup, szechuan dishes and basic chinese dishes. I love noodles. I love noodles so much that I could eat it every single day. As you can imagine, I was excited when I heard that Noodles Fresh was opening up in Berkeley. But then the baby came and along with him COVID also arrived. I had never been someone who enjoys takeout and delivery since I like my food extra fresh and I appreciate restaurant service. But we've all had to adapt in the current climate and I decided to get takeout from here. What stood out to me with both the Beef Noodle Soup and Dan Dan Noodles was that the noodles themselves were thick and had a chewy (in a good way) consistency. Despite being reassembled at home and reheated, the noodles did not get too soft or soggy. I had been craving Beef Noodle Soup and this definitely hit the spot. The soup broth had a rich flavor and the pieces of beef were tender and delicious. To my surprise, I enjoyed the Dan Dan Noodles even more.
