Since the meat was thick sliced, the fat was ever so present and overwhelmingly gooey and inedible. The meat was cooked medium rare and was fantastic. The accompanying Filipino Mac salad was a hit and miss. The consistency of the macaroni was dense with a strange flavor and so overpowering it was hard to get past. After striking out there, I started calling around to a few Italian grocers, and DeFalco's immediately stood out. When I called, they confirmed they sold sliced pepperoni, so I made the trip over. One of the first things I noticed was how busy the place was, which is usually a good sign! Despite the crowd, the staff was incredibly friendly and eager to help. When I verified that they had sliced pepperoni available, the employee immediately went into the back and brought out a fresh pound for me. What really surprised me was the price. I've been to other Italian delis where a half-pound of pepperoni cost more than what I paid for a full pound at DeFalco's. The value was outstanding, and the quality was even better. That night, I used the pepperoni on homemade pizzas, and it was absolutely delicious. You can tell you're getting the real deal. Most carbonara upsets my stomach because of dairy (but I still order it anyway because it's my favorite), but how they made it here left me feeling satisfied without an upset stomach which is a huge win in my book!
