Chinese DIY Hot pot battling it out in an area dominated by Korean restaurants…read more Small plaza parking available - watch out though as some of the spots are limited to 30 minutes / pretty transit friendly as location is a short walk from Lougheed. Place was very clean and color scheme was a lot like "Fish with You" (fish pot restaurant at crystal mall ). Service was very quick - got a table on a weekend afternoon instantly. They do have a minimal order weight of 1LB/19.99 / so this might be the reason why some stated this place is expensive, and it could be if you're a small eater seeking the $10-15 pots. In terms of selection - I don't think they have that large of a selection compared to say Big Way - I felt like there was less of everything. The Fried Egg here was a disaster and don't recommend / it was very dry. Broth selection was mid , tried the #1 spicy broth , apparently most popular among customers - the medium level spicy was alright - you can taste the gentle numbing of the peppercorns, however it still lacked intensity , maybe I should got max heat. They were having a happy hour - so the drink was on the house, no option of type of drink. It tasted pretty good. Did not get the ice cream at the end, believe they had basic Vanilla.

Arouhd 2pm ( it was alsona statutory holiday today), the lot was full, there was people waiting for spots. This place recent changed from a grill to this pay by weight hot pot. They also have set combos of beef, seafood or vegetarian items +veg +noodles for around $18 dollars on special ( normal price $24). This is different from places like Big Way that is just pay by weight. But same process in that you grab a bowl and pick your own toppings. The worker said aim for getting at least a pound but she said there is flexibility. She let my friend pay with only 800g so that was nice. The broth selection was organized on large signs for several levels of spice and several non-spicy options. I was impressed with the amount of unique food selections like frog legs! And a few other things I haven't seen before. The bowls seem slightly deeper so you will tend to fill it a bit more. They have a rewards system similar to Big Way where you put your phone number. At the sauce bar I qas impressed and excited to see orange slices! It was helpful to have this free addition to cool down my mouth down when the spice was too much :p. There was of course also free ice cream after the meal. There was a good amount of seats , good for large groups ( 3 to 4 +). Would say it was a good experience for a quick meal.

It required a lot of salt to make it feel tasty. The galbi was also kind of dry. The marinade was good and flavorful but it was dry. Honestly the best part of that meal was the stone bowl rice I think. The service is mid. You're not met with a smile or greeted well. It's just a stop for food.

They even provide tools for cutting meat, seafood, veggies, and noodles! Walking into Wang Ga Ma feels like stepping into Korea. Most of the diners are Korean, which is an excellent sign that this spot captures Korea's true flavours and vibe. Their soups and rice are amazing in hot stone bowls (ttukbaegi 뚝배기). The bone soups are super delicious. We've tried several dishes from their menu and always left satisfied. Don't miss the burnt rice tea in the stone pot after your meal -- it really completes the experience! Wang Ga Ma is located in Hanin Village. While waiting for a table, we love grocery shopping at H-Mart nearby. This place might be well-known to Koreans, but it could be a hidden gem for others. There's nothing fancy about their menu or entrance, and they don't even have a social media account, but they've been in business for years. That says something. It turned out that the pork had no sauce at all and the taste was minimal. It did not resemble the picture as shown online. The Braised Beef was a lie (they gave us slices of beef shank instead of chunks of beef). It was not braised; it was cold. You can check the photos on Uber Eats and Fantuan for the correct version. We were shocked by their misconduct. Traditional dishes should not be altered and the cashier should not have asked us for modifications. Was a toss between good old trusty or something new notably a joint with a menu with tiny texts. Joking aside, had the combo 2. Pulled beef sandwich with pork bones, er "dragon bones", and vegetable soup. This is a northern cuisine from China that is not common in GVRD. The taste is muted except for the starnasis and the ingredients. Umami flavour and wholesome tasting. Fair value. Recommend it.

Some of our go-to favourites: green curry, pad see ew, gai lan with pork belly, and the Thai fried rice with grilled pork. The flavours are super consistent every single visit, which honestly is half the battle with takeout spots. Their rotating specials are also worth watching for m, and are always fun when there's something new in the mix. (my pictures don't do justice) It's definitely a bit pricier than your average quick Thai spot... however, the ingredients taste fresh and the portions are satisfying. Love the little thoughtful touches too: self-serve water station, compostable containers and cutlery, and an easy casual setup that works perfectly for a Quay lunch or dinner. I'm giving it a 4-star because the place closes at 6pm Mon-Thu and at 7pm on all other days. I always feel like I need to rush or have early dinner if I wanted to grab food from here. All in all, this is a solid Thai food option in New West. Basically, if Thai street food and elevated comfort food had a waterfront glow-up, this would be it!
