I have exclusively seen Mireille for my waxing needs over the last 7(ish) years. My brows started out thin, misshapen, and lacking an arch when I started seeing her. Now they are so gorgeous that I refuse to touch them besides the obvious clean up between appointments. She creates a beautiful arch for me every time and knows my brows so well that I don't ever have to tell her what I want besides, "I still like 'em thicker, not too thin, but you know what to do!" I have always had great cuts from Jenny here at her salon, and the atmosphere is nice and casual, but not messy. If the place was closer to me and used Aveda products, I wouldn't go anywhere else! Alas, I'm an Aveda junkie. Note: watch out for cyclists on the Burke-Gilman trail, which passes directly in front of Nola's entrance. You could be mowed down if you don't look both ways before entering and exiting the salon. Postscript on 11/14/10: to hell with the Aveda products. I am going to Jenny from now on. I have been getting my hair cut by Brandon for like, four years. When I first moved to Seattle in 2008, I kept trying different stylists at Babalouise in Ballard. I didn't really know what I wanted in my haircut, just...something that worked. Right before I moved, Brandon gave me the best haircut I'd had in a few years. It wasn't that different from other haircuts, but he made me feel great about my haircut with easy conversation. I moved away for a year and when I returned to Seattle, I wasn't in that neighborhood. I tried a few places in Capitol Hill and hated the high-school jock style they gave me. I actually broke my hairbrush in a fit of anger. I resolved to track down the last person who gave me a decent haircut, which was Brandon. He was't at Babalouise, he and his wife Jenny started their own place in Fremont. He welcomed me, listened intently for about 15 minutes as I shared what my goal was with my hair, and explained to me what he wanted to do and how it would help me achieve my desired look. My skin seems to prefer Mireille's hard wax better than the strips, so have mostly been seeing her. Nyssa, my stylist, greeted me with a warm smile and led me back to the chair. She listened carefully to my haircut needs and clarified her plans to be sure we were on the same page. I love how this is a high-quality salon that actually feels super welcoming and laid-back. They have the coolest interior, and there's even a view of lake union. I made an appointment with Donna Jean using the online appointment system they have and it was super easy. Here's the thing, I like to get my hair cut dry. No stylists ever seem to think this is a good idea, but I like it cut that way. I get cold easily and I just don't want to go through all the styling and getting my head wet that comes with a shampoo. Donna Jean was the first stylist I've ever had who was happy to cut it dry and actually likes to cut hair that way. Eunice is the best! When I moved to Seattle a year ago I wasn't looking forward to the process of finding a salon and stylist I loved. I thought "Wouldn't it be awesome if I found my person on the first try?", but knew better than to count on that happening. I live in Queen Anne and after calling and leaving messages to book an appt at what ended up being several salons in Queen Anne and Belltown and none of them returning my calls, the process was becoming more tedious than I thought it might be. Is there some secret salon code phrase for getting a call returned? Before I moved I had searched online for promising salons and suddenly remembered that Nola had stood out, so I went back to their website and discovered I could make an appt online! Yay, no more dead end phone calls! At this point I was desperate so I booked an appt with whichever stylist I could see the soonest, which happened to be Eunice. My first appointment with her was awesome, she did exactly what I asked her to do only the results far exceeded my expectations. I walked out of there feeling like a new woman, it was easily the best cut and color I'd ever had! I've been seeing her for a year now and my hair has never looked better. I have very fine thin hair that I'm growing out with plenty of gray , and she always layers and colors it perfectly. I have been seeing her for over 10 years, and would travel out of state if I had to in order to have her talent and skills for my body waxing. I have been going to Mireille monthly for waxing, tinting, and facials since at least 2004 (if not before??), and happily followed her to Nola. She is an excellent esthetician and always makes an effort to send me on my way looking my best. She has given me great advice on how to care for my skin, both with products and maintenance, even as my skin has changed through two pregnancies and ten plus years of aging. She also does a great job matching tints to my coloring and skin tone. She takes special care to test all products herself before using them on clients, and uses a wax that adheres to hair, not skin, which makes it less painful. In addition to all of this, she is personable and attentive, creating a relaxing, pampered environment for clients. I always look forward to my spa day with Mireille! I am now going to Eunice for haircuts as well, and after four years of looking am ecstatic that I have finally found a hairstylist who can both understand and execute what I'm asking them to do while simultaneously making suggestions of how to make my request look best on me. I am super happy that I was able to get an appointment with him because he has some great reviews and I would really love to try his magic. Cannot say enough good things about the haircut I just received from Jesse. I feel like a million bucks! I was running late to my appointment I scheduled online, and he very kindly called to check if I was indeed showing up- from the moment I spoke to him on the phone and throughout the haircut, he proved to be a genuine pleasure to meet and speak with. It probably doesn't hurt that he happens to be truly gifted at what he does! After gently considering the mess I showed up with, he carefully planned and discussed what he intended to do, then went to work- and transformed my neglected, fine and frizzy locks into a sleek, healthy, undercut bob with tons of versatility. I've been here twice, the first for a style with Shandra for my engagement photos. She did an awesome job! Everyone commented on how great my hair looked. She also gave me a bang trim at the same time, which I really, really liked. I booked an appointment a few weeks later for a bang trim and since Shandra wasn't available, I visited Donna Jean. She was nice as a person but I feel like she didn't listen to what I wanted and gave me the single worst bang trim I've ever had. When I walked into Nola on a recent Friday night at 5:40 for 5:45 appointment, the receptionist was on the phone, so I stood there for a few minutes waiting to be checked in. In the meantime, she did not smile at me, she didn't not acknowledge my waiting, but instead, she just gave me a quite dirty look (I was dressed well and look quite normal not that this matters). It didn't matter, I had rushed over from another errand and was just happy I made it on time. The salon was fairly empty besides a handful of stylists and their customers. No other stylist acknowledged me as I stood there at the desk. Eventually, I sat down on the bench near the front desk and waited, not thinking much of it. The receptionist eventually got off the phone and several other stylists joined her as their appointments wrapped up. Still no one welcomed me or asked if I needed help. I waited for 20 minutes past when my appointment was scheduled and then slowly put my coat on in front of the front desk giving them a chance to redeem themselves and than left. I thought about pointing out that I had been waiting, but it was already quite conspicuous as I was the only person there and I felt that they simply didn't want my business. An acknowledgment and welcome is just basic customer service - I am typically easy to please but found this experience offensive and pretentious. Note: I did get a call from the stylist about 10 minutes after I left asking if I was coming in and I told him that I had just been in there for quite some time waiting. He replied, "Oh, I didn't realize that was you." To me that signified that he DID realize someone was waiting to be served and just didn't care enough to ask (why, he thought I wouldn't be his appointment is beyond me). read more

This review is for waxes with Anya/Melissa. I've had the pleasure of meeting both women and they are both superb at what they do. They both are very sweet and their personalities make the process way less awkward. What I love is how fast and efficient they are at what they do. I'm in and out of there in like 10 minutes! They gave me plenty of time to get ready while I was in the room and made sure I was always comfortable during the wax. Getting Brazilian waxes is always awkward I mean come on. Having another woman handle you in certain area just feels so unnatural but honestly Anya and Melissa were both very friendly and professional. They both did a great job that I even bought the rest of the 3-wax groupon deal to come back! The actual salon is so cute and right on the waterfront by the Burke Gilman trail. They share what looks like a cargo hold container with a little cafe- very unique!
