We have been a customer since they open when my wife moved to San Francisco in 1988 and lived about Martha & Brothers Coffee a few blocks away on 24th Street. We know that whatever is going to be baked at NVB is beautiful, delicious and creative! From their seasonal tarts, festive cakes for Halloween, Christmas, Hanukkah, Mardi Gras King Cake, Easter, Memorial, Pride or Fourth of July it THE place to pick up your favorites. FOOD The chocolate cherry bread is my favorite. I've bought it several times for myself and for friends and it's always a hit. It's wonderful they can slice the bread for you. I'd like to try the mission fig bread next. I thought their sourdough batard book was average but good. PARKING Parking can be challenging in the area. The muni line running by it means that it's hard to make u turns and there can be quite a bit of traffic. DISCOUNTS They have a "happy hour" from 3-6pm every day where their drinks are $3. saw a line outside, so i figured it was a place worth going. the wait in line was not bad and we got inside pretty quickly. inside, the bakery was very cute. it definitely had a bakery charm to it. the customer service was also very good. all the employees were very helpful. when they thought that no one was helping us, they would check on us to make sure we were being helped. as for the food, i think the prices were pretty reasonable for a bakery. both my friend and i got a pastry and a pink lemonade (because it looked really good on the poster). the pastry tasted good, however the pink lemonade was questionable. my friend and i did not like the drink. it tasted nauseously sweet and had some other taste to it that didn't feel right in a pink lemonade. overall, i liked the bakery and would come again. read more

Amazing! I'm currently obsessed with their Milky Way Bombe! Explosion of flavor. Fruit tarts are good, and I can also recommend the raspberry cheesecake. They do NOT have eating spaces, so this is a strictly to-go store. They also have a much bigger selection of cakes through the website that you can order for pickup. I haven't given any of those a try, but they definitely look good. Service is always polite and helpful. Since the place is small, If there's a line, there's a little sign at the sidewalk indicating it. read more

I'm obsessed! The Noe Valley Bakery has some pretty tasty pastries. We met up with friends for coffee and a pastry, and we were definitely in for a huge treat! They have a great variety of items to choose from, and they are all really delicious! If you're not looking for anything too sweet, they also offer some delicious looking savory pastries I love the what they bake and make is seasonal. So you can expect to always find something new and different when you visit. I will say that everyone raves about the cupcakes, and we purchased one that is reminiscent of a hostess cupcake. It was tasty, but definitely not my favorite. It was missing something. Maybe the cream filling needed to be something more than what it was. A friend of my wife's generously gave her a birthday cake and got me off the hook for finding one (it's actually on Valentine's Day). The cake we had was a strawberry cake with white cake and subtle strawberry frosting. For one the cake is beautiful to look at. Next the flavor was perfect. We got three scones and the lemon drop cupcake and everything was delightful, the scones were not dry, perfect texture, the flavor really coming in, the cupcake was moist perfectly tangy with the lemon! I got the currant and orange scone and the M&M cookie. both items are so tasty. the scone is crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. just what I'm looking for in a scone. the currant and orange add a nice light and tart element to the scone. makes it not too heavy to eat. Definitely a well-known bakery in SF for a reason. My favorite pastry here is the cheddar chive scone - a perfect balance of doughy, cheesy, buttery, and savory. I also love some of the other scones and have had their chocolate cake before which is very decadent and rich. There's often a line on the weekend but it's usually fast-moving and pretty efficient. Bought a strawberry cake from them for my wife's birthday and the order and pick up process was super smooth online. I love how they have a good and navigable website for all ages. You can also easily customize a cake online, which was a cherry on top. I had my wife pick up the cake and they even gave her a small free cupcake since it was the day of her birthday. The cake itself was presented very nicely, but my we were a little disappointed on how hard the frosting it. We were expecting a soft frosting like on most cakes, but this one was a little harder to a point where you can stab the fork in the frosting and pick up the cake. It was not very sweet (best compliment) and we did not get sick of the easily since it was so light. I just wished the frosting was a little softer and not as tough and chewy. If anything, I'd suggest defrosting the cake for a little bit before eating to soften it up. read more

First time visiting and I was specifically looking for red velvet. Wasn't sure ahead of time what they would have so I called. They only had full cakes but they did have cupcakes too which were perfect. Picked up four red velvet cupcakes. Needed candles and they also had these in stock for purchase, which was convenient too. I came in to pick up a birthday cake (customized with text) and was entranced by their bakery case display so I had to grab a mini lemon tart + mini fruit tart + lemon drop cupcake for the birthday boy. The cake itself was a 6" carrot cake -- very moist w/ perfectly creamy cream cheese frosting that wasn't too sweet. Lots of raisins and nuts throughout! Delicious. I ordered a 1/4" sheet cake, because the website said it would feed 20-25 people so we thought that would totally be enough for our children's birthday party with 18 kids attending. The cake was delivered and I was shocked by how small it is, and had to call them because I thought we were given the wrong size. The cake measures less than 12" long x 7" wide, and based on my experience it would feed 12 people with regular-size (not generous) slices measuring ~3" x 2". To feed 24 people as it claimed, you would have to cut 1" x 1.5" slices and I cannot imagine a scenario where that is remotely acceptable as a serving size. It was beautifully decorated and looks delicious, but for over $100 I would hope that I would be able to feed 18 children. read more

I usually patronize Noe 1 to 2 times weekly. Love their food and it was gradually becoming my favorite bakery. Staff generally is very nice and patient. Until today that is. My wife and I bought a sandwich and several pastries along with two coffees. The lids are ill fitting. We sat on a bench to eat and while doing so the lid popped off while I was drinking and I was covered with hot coffee. We decided to head home to clean up and while in the car the other cup's lid popped off and covered the interior with coffee. I telephoned the bakery to explain what happened but was met with derision. I just wanted to tell them that the lids didn't work but the young woman was very defensive and said I was yelling at her (which I was not) When did voicing dissatisfaction and displeasure become a form of violence ? when did young people become so weak and soft? I understand that people should be treated with respect but being upset is not a character flaw no matter what the snowflakes say. Noe, you have lost 2 two well paying customers. Goodbye read more

Obviously you can't expect a legitimate French pastry in the city, but for $5.20 I was hopeful the pain au chocolat would at least have proper lamination. It's just bread So overpriced and disappointing. I don't think they even use an egg wash, just a butter brushing after it's baked? The baguette was $3.75 before tax and didn't look great either. I have been waiting for it to be available and it finally dropped this week in October at the Noe Valley Bakery. I enjoy a good pumpkin pie and Noe Valley Bakery has the right amount of savory and sweetness ( not too sweet) but it is pretty rich. The flavor of the pumpkin pie was tasty. My visit was short and sweet. I had placed a cake order a few weeks before for my brother-in-law's birthday. I ordered a 6" confetti cake with red writing. Picking it up on the day of was easy peasy. They have a separate pick up line and I got there before the rush. The bakery smelled amazing! The cake is light, sweet, and fluffy. I like that it's frosted only on the top and between cake layers. I've been to Noe Valley Bakery a few times now, and it's one of those places where the experience really depends on what you order. The croissants, unfortunately, fall a bit flat for me I'd give them about a 2/5. They're not bad, just missing that signature crispy, flaky top layer you expect when you bite in. Instead of that light crunch and airy texture, they lean a little softer and denser than I'd hope for, which takes away from the overall experience. That said, the cakes are a completely different story easily 5/5. They absolutely shine here. Every cake I've tried has been incredibly moist, rich without being too heavy, and clearly made with a lot of care. Came here to pick up a lemon raspberry tart for Cindy's birthday! The pre-order process was easy. I wasn't able to do it on the website because I think I was too early (? or maybe it was too late?), so I placed a phone order instead and provided my credit card info over the phone. We stood at the "pick up order" line for a while like 15 minutes, even though we were the only people in this "line". The service here is always on it. Fast friendly and moving the line along very well. I think we've tried most of the breads and cupcakes that they make. You wouldn't really want to stay and eat in the store, as it's small and doesn't have a lot of places to accommodate it. But you'll be very happy when you get where you're going and dig in. One big con - they recently stopped making the BEST baguette I've ever had. It was encrusted with seeds and had little bits of cooked onion inside. It was mind-blowingly good.
