There was a small line forming prior to opening. We waited about 20 minutes for our order to be made. We shared the Sunset Beach and added the Snow Cap. Probably best to skip the snow cap. I didn't taste the condensed milk at all. The flavor is delicious. Towards the bottom of the shaved ice, there wasn't anymore flavor though.

The café has a…read moremodern, minimal aesthetic with neutral décor and plenty of seating, making it a nice place to relax. Street parking can be a little difficult, but they do have a parking lot in the back, which makes it much easier. We ordered the Houjicha Marron Shaved Ice and the Iced Brown Sugar Miso Latte. The barista was super helpful with explaining what each drink was, didn't steer us in any direction though. The Houjicha shaved ice was the standout. Houjicha is a toasted green tea, and the flavor is a little difficult to describe--it has a warm, grainy, almost wheat-like taste that's very different from traditional green tea. At first, it can seem like an unusual flavor, but don't give up on it. Once you add the syrup they serve on the side and keep eating, it really grows on you. It somehow gets better with every bite, and before you know it, you can't stop eating it. The Iced Brown Sugar Miso Latte wasn't exactly what I was in the mood for, but it was still well made. It had a nice balance of umami and sweetness without either flavor overpowering the other. While it wasn't my personal favorite, I'd still recommend it if you're looking to try something a little different. Overall, Anko is a great spot if you're looking for unique Japanese-inspired desserts and drinks in a calm, beautifully designed space.

I love Korean shaved ice and this place rates way up there against all the other shaved iced places…read moreI've been here in the states and in Korea. Not only was the flavor amazing (which made me want to return and try them all) but the presentation was definitely instagram worthy. The one negative is that the seating was not plentiful for all their customers but this is definitely not a negative for the owners. That just means they have a great business. Location is in old town so parking might be a challenge.

A Little Cheat Night Never Hurt Nobody!…read more After eating the juiciest chicken ever at Loli Farms, I've been eyeing this dessert spot for a while, and luckily it was only 1.6 miles away. So obviously... dessert was happening. Perfect excuse for a little cheat-night treat! Parking Hack: Don't pay $5 for parking! We parked about 7 minutes away in a parking structure for only $1 for 2 hours. After all the delicious food I inhaled, I definitely didn't mind getting a little extra cardio in. Pasadena parking is definitely doing the most, so parking structure it was! Mango Melon Shaved Ice -- $8.50 | 7.8/10 Mango-flavored shaved ice topped with melon balls and served with a side of milk drizzle. The shaved ice itself was SO soft and fluffy, and the milk drizzle gave it just the right amount of sweetness. The only thing was... I really couldn't taste much mango in the shaved ice. It was pretty subtle, so I wouldn't say this one completely blew me away, but it was still a refreshing treat on a hot summer night. Definitely not the best I've had, but certainly not the worst! Injeolmi Shaved Ice -- $7.50 | 7.7/10 Milk-flavored shaved ice topped with mochi, layers of Injeolmi powder, and more milk drizzle. This was actually our first time trying Injeolmi, so we were curious! The combination of the soft shaved ice, milk drizzle, and nutty Injeolmi powder was really good and made for a fun flavor combination. My only complaint? THE MOCHI. They were soooo tiny! I wanted that satisfying chewy squish, but these little guys basically tasted like mini boba that disappeared the second I bit into them. The shaved ice itself was perfectly soft and honestly the star of both desserts. Inside, there aren't a ton of tables, but luckily we snagged one right when we walked in. And let me tell you... this place had a constant flow of customers the entire hour we were there! People were coming in and out left and right, with only one ordering machine, so expect a little patience if it gets busy. Overall, both shaved ices were pretty decent and made for the perfect little "I already ate too much but I'm still getting dessert" moment. Definitely a nice way to break the diet after our chicken feast! Would I come back? Absolutely, especially to try some of their other shaved ice flavors. Happy desserts!

Parking is pretty difficult, and valet is $5. I can easily see the parking lot getting gridlocked on a busy day. I sampled a few of their gelato flavors, including the jasmine lychee and soy sauce. Both were okay, but I just wasn't in the mood for either of them today. I ended up getting the Pandan Toast to try. The pandan flavor was really good--not too grassy and didn't taste too artificial. The ice cream also had a buttery taste to it. It might have been from the toast, but I'm not too sure. The bread itself wasn't oily, which was nice, but it was kind of dry. The pandan sauce definitely helped make it easier to eat. I probably wouldn't eat the bread by itself though because it was super hard and didn't really have much flavor. I wasn't sure what to expect from the toast, but it wasn't quite what I expected. I originally wanted to try the mango sticky rice flavored shaved ice because it looked really good in the photos, but unfortunately they didn't have it today. I'd come back to try their shaved ice when mango is in season again!
