Ay yi yi. To be fair, I'll start by saying that maybe my most recent experience is not the norm. Maybe the incredibly curt person behind the counter was having a bad day. Maybe the people behind the counter usually don't talk to you like they're offended that you're in the store wanting to give them your money in exchange for donuts. Maybe they usually have more of a variety of donuts at 7:30 a.m. on a weekday. Maybe I just visited on the wrong day. I haven't visited in a couple of years. My first visit, I gave this Jack's five stars. It used to be so awesome. They even offered donut-making classes for kids. It was a seriously cool donut shop. But this place is definitely different now, and I don't know what happened. The variety of donuts is a lot fewer. The vibe is less friendly. Unfortunately for Carmel, the only other place to get traditional donuts is Dunkin. This is the only local donut shop in Carmel, so I guess I'll have to start traveling a bit farther for my glazed twist donuts. read more

Updating my review after several years. I hadn't been here for some time but needed to pick up a box of donuts at the last minute, and the closest donut shop to my destination was Jack's. It was very busy at 9:00 am on a Saturday morning. I counted 15 customers in line ahead of me. The line did move fairly quickly, with several employees waiting on customers. I ordered "Jack's Dozen" which included donut holes. I selected several different varieties of donuts and a mixed bag of donut holes. The price for "Jack's Dozen" was $18.50. Everything was just ok. Nothing wrong with the donuts but nothing special about them either. The long John's are not filled. In fact, several of the donut varieties didn't contain filling. With the exception of one donut (a long john with sprinkles, for a child who loves sprinkles) I ordered all donuts with filling. Actually the donuts look better than they taste. They look delicious but taste just ok. The chocolate donut holes were hard and didn't have much flavor. The other varieties of donut holes were better. There are several donut shops in Indy and surrounding areas that have really great donuts, so I probably won't be a regular here. read more

We had a donut showdown in our office with everyone bringing in donuts from dozens of Indy shops. Jacks are well known in Carmel so I immediately said I'd be bringing them. Parking is no issue, I went in around 8:30 and there was a line or 5 already. Plain glaze were sold out that early in the morning- if you are planning on wanting a certain type of donut I'd plan on ordering ahead. It happened that this day specifically the card reader was down so they were taking cash only. The woman working was doing the best she could (even despite the rude people asking to take donuts and come back later to pay??) so props to her!! I received an assortment dozen and they smelled freaking amazing and looked as good as they smelled! The maple donuts went over best and I just wish I could've gotten a glaze one! I had just gotten out of an appointment and was craving Jacks Donuts. I had not been to Jack's in quite a while, so this was good for me to visit this location again. It is just as how I remembered it, and was very clean inside. The ambiance is very good and much more organized than the last time I was here. The donuts are awesome and come in a variety of flavors. The fruity pebbles donut is the best! I was so happy to see that they had gluten free donuts, so I picked up a half dozen of them to take home. The woman behind the counter was very professional and nice and took good care of me, so I was happy to see that! These days I am eating healthy and trying to take better care of myself, but I had to have some donuts every now and then, so was proud to be in the area and pick up some Jack's Donuts. I'm a door dasher part time paying for my daughters wedding or partially paying. Every time I go to pickup on Sundays there is one little girl working by herself. I'm waiting, people are waiting and discussing this issue amongst the customers. That girl is doing great but please give her some help. Not one person can take care of serving everyone. But at Dunkin (or most places) the staff doesn't belittle you in front of other customers, get frustrated when you ask for coffee, or otherwise make you wish you never came in. It's hard to satiate a Krispy Kreme craving in Indiana. Of course, you can always do it by grabbing a box at your local Kroger (God knows I've resorted to that far more times than I'd like to admit) but having finally come to terms with the fact that we will never be among the privileged bunch that gets to enjoy freshly-baked Krispy Kremes, a hankering for a glazed donut had me looking local. Jack's is no Long's...it's fluffy, sure, but a little too much glaze and sugar prevents you from tasting the 'yeastiness' (and I mean that in the best way possible, in this case) of the donut dough. Regardless, a glazed donut at Jack's surprisingly hits the spot, and a glance at the case showed a lot more promising offers as well. I was shocked to see a line out the door that never seemed to stop: it seems Jack's is a Carmel favorite. Most customers were grabbing dozens, accompanied by many, many donut holes which also looked extremely tempting! My family and I visit this Jack's Donuts every week and are usually very pleased with the donuts and the customer service. This past Sunday when we went, we witnessed a manager berating and belittling a young boy employee. She did this multiple times, very loudly and in front of all the customers in a store. I would just like to make the owners aware that this is not the way to manage employees. The behavior of this manager was off putting and offending to watch as I'm sure it affected the young boy employee. I am hoping to never witness this behavior again during future visits. I found out that Jack's delivers coffee and donuts. Our family has a birthday don't tradition. So I was able to order donuts and an iced coffee for my daughter-in-law today for her birthday. The coffee and donuts arrived within their delivery window. I received an update that the delivery was on its way. And the driver texted me to let me know where he left the food, so I was able to let my son's family know the donuts were outside waiting for them. What a seamless process. HOLY YUM. I love this place because I'm personally a traditional glazed donut kind of girl and man do they have that. There's a ton of cool dough twisty shapes, all with the traditional glaze. Not sure when you're supposed to come here to get the freshest donuts. I came at about 8:30am on Labor Day and stood in a line out the door. I had reviewed another location mentioning that while I liked a donut shop being open for evening hours, it didn't seem like the donuts were very fresh at that time. Apparently they may not be in the morning either. I've eaten Jack's donuts in the early morning at work that people have graciously brought in to share, and usually they are delicious and fresh. When they are fresh, they are very good donuts. I just wish I knew when to go to make sure that I am getting just-baked donuts because there doesn't seem to be any consistency. I won't purchase from Jack's without asking when they were baked from here out. Also docked a star because of the way the donuts were packaged for me that day. I ordered a half-dozen donuts, which I guess do not get a box at that number. The three glazed yeast were put at the bottom of the bag with the other three iced donuts thrown in on top without any paper separating any of them. I couldn't stop her in time to ask for the yeast donuts and the iced ones to be packaged separately. In addition, the iced donuts were literally thrown in without any care, so they were upside down smearing icing all over the plain donuts and adhering the rest of the icing to the sides of the bag. The donuts are the same--in fact, they are my six-year-old son's favorite--but the staff has been rude on several occasions. A friend of my daughter works there currently at the Carmel location and says the employee Jan along with the owner sticks their bare unwashed hands into the icing buckets to ice the donuts with her HANDS. ICK. The smell seems nice when you walk in but when you go to get your coffee you're hit with a mildew moldy smell accompanied with the visuals of the cabinets below the coffees with old stuck on icing and sprinkles in the lobby! I always make a stop at jacks when I'm in Indy. I love the chocolate and regular glazed twist. It's nice bc they have that flavor in donut holes even, which allows me to get my other favorite -iced sprinkled! Only thing I wish was different were the hours... we like to grab donuts the night before and jacks closes at 6 pm.
