Grout Pros NYC - The completed job with finishing touches

    Grout Pros NYC

    (52 reviews)

If you are lucky enough to have landed on Grout Pros' NYC Google listing, please do yourself an…read moreimmediate favor: stop stressing, end the analysis paralysis, step out of the panic loop and contact Elizabeth and Daniel ASAP. The universe is positively intervening in a way you cannot even fathom right now. I say this because I was YOU less than 48 hours ago. My nightmare started when I hired a "contractor" through TaskRabbit with 600+ five-star reviews to fix and paint a peeling bathroom window along with some regrout touch-ups. Straightforward, right? Well, on Day 2 at 6pm on a Thursday, less than 72 hours before my guest's early Sunday arrival, he scurried away mid-job and left the window's wood and metal frame in worse condition than when he started. He used a chemical paint remover that compromised the surface, then left when things got complicated. No referral. Just a "sorry" and out the door. Now I had less time, a worse problem, and no clear path forward. Enter NYC Grout Pros. Elizabeth initially told me they were booked until Monday, which I understood, but once she heard my timeline, she led with empathy and assured me she and Daniel would make Friday work. It felt like a miracle! I went to sleep knowing I wasn't alone. Friday, Daniel arrives around 2:30pm, and what struck me immediately was how supported he was by his team. One of his colleagues--on THEIR day off--came by just to deliver tools and materials he'd need. That level of coordination and sacrifice, especially under pressure, is rare. What Daniel walked into was no longer simple. The wood had been compromised, sanding was difficult, and the timeline ruled out conventional approaches. He assessed everything calmly and made a critical call--the current path wouldn't get this done in time. At 5pm on a Friday, without hesitation, he drove nearly two hours through West Village traffic to his shop in Westchester to custom cut wood for my window and source the right materials to actually solve the problem--not just patch it. He then drove back into Manhattan, arriving around 8:30pm, and worked until 11:30pm. And, true to his word--came back by 10am the next morning, on a Saturday--HIS day off--and a day where he had meaningful personal commitments, and still worked until everything was completed to the highest standard. The Result: the window was fully repaired, the grout issues were smoothed out, and the bathroom was spotless/usable. I was able to keep my promises to my guest because of Daniel. But what impressed me most is who Daniel is as a person. He is not only exceptional in his craft--he is an even more exceptional human being. I was under pressure. I had already lost time and money. I was dealing with someone else's poor judgment. And Daniel kept reassuring me: he was on my side, he wouldn't abandon the project, and he would get it done. Although I was a complete stranger--one of millions of people in NYC--he treated me like a longtime friend he was willing to move mountains for. And boy did he. He never made me feel like a burden or like he'd been stuck with a bad job. There was also a generosity of spirit that permeated his work. My partner had ?'s about installing new flushmounts, and Daniel took the time to coach him through an example so we'd feel confident doing it ourselves. One micro-moment spoke volumes. After hours of driving and working late, he still cleaned thoroughly--bathroom spotless, tools neatly placed. As we walked out, he noticed dust from his boots in the hallway and instinctively dropped down to clean it, saying he didn't want to leave the building that way. That level of care--at the very end of a long day--is not something you can fake. I also appreciated how highly he spoke of his team, especially Elizabeth. It's clear they are a close, experienced group that genuinely support one another--and it shows. What they did for me went far beyond fixing a window. Hearing "I got you" felt like 1000 pounds lifted off my shoulders--I've found my dream creative partners and I know I can trust them with any project moving forward! And so should you!

We had a minor miscommunication on color and they fixed it without issue. I learned they have long-standing, high-quality employees and were actually able to have the guy who worked on our bathrooms a couple years ago chime in on what he did when we had questions. Grout Pros are terrific.

The JOB - Lay down 60 sq ft of new tile floor in bathroom. Minor subfloor repair…read more The GOOD: a) The estimate process was solid. On-the-spot, technology-driven estimate. Fair/competitive pricing (i got 3 quotes) b) contractors showed up on time c) work was completed on schedule d) the quality of the job was acceptable. The BAD: a) Masks: contractors did not wear masks at all times. In some cases masks did not cover noses. All work took place indoors. This is not a conversation that anyone wants to have in the middle of a pandemic. b) Dust control: contractors did not bring any tarp/covering to cover items around the cutting area. I wasn't thinking about covering items outside the bathroom because I, for whatever reason, wasn't expecting there to be much dust - they do tiling all the time, they know how much dust their work creates - at no point did they even advise me to cover my items. The amount of cleaning that I was left to do was substantial (items & appliances that were in the bathroom and all hallway surfaces across 3 floors). Maybe 2-3hrs total time and there yet remains cleaning work to be done. I covered things up on day 2, but by then, the damage had been done. I also had a throw out a window curtain that got ruined by the dust. In hindsight, the cutting should have been done outside or with a wet saw in the bathtub. You live and learn. This is a lesson that I would have preferred to learn a different way. The MEH: a) The contractor did not install quarter round moulding in places where there had not been quarter round at the start of the job. Wasn't in the contract. But it feels like the kind of thing that shouldn't have to be in a contract. I didn't think about it until after the fact b) Contractor assured me that sink drain was reconnected properly. They tested it with me. It did not leak during the test. Everything appeared to be ok. The sink leaked a substantial amount of water 2 days later when i poured a quart of water down the drain.
