My nightmare started when I hired a "contractor" through TaskRabbit with 600+ five-star reviews to fix and paint a peeling bathroom window along with some regrout touch-ups. Straightforward, right? Well, on Day 2 at 6pm on a Thursday, less than 72 hours before my guest's early Sunday arrival, he scurried away mid-job and left the window's wood and metal frame in worse condition than when he started. He used a chemical paint remover that compromised the surface, then left when things got complicated. No referral. Just a "sorry" and out the door. Now I had less time, a worse problem, and no clear path forward. Enter NYC Grout Pros. Elizabeth initially told me they were booked until Monday, which I understood, but once she heard my timeline, she led with empathy and assured me she and Daniel would make Friday work. Several were handymen they could do the job for in 2 - 4 hours for a crazy low price. Then there was the other end; contractors quoted 30% higher. I went with Grout Pros because of their excellent reviews on Yelp, and well, they BEYOND delivered. The quality of work and their customer service is rare in the contracting / home improvement world. First, coordinating with Elizabeth was easy in terms of the process when it came to quotes/contracts. Their communication was responsive and clear. The morning of the job, Gio came to my apartment ON-TIME. I don't think I've ever experienced that before with any contractor. Gio is personable and friendly. About an hour or two into the work, Gio quickly realized that there was damage behind the tiles from water damage and smartly advised I to get a plumber before continuing the work to confirm there was no active leak, which I did. But unfortunately, that meant I had to reschedule the rest of the job. Elizabeth and her team made it happen 3 days later, as I had a hard deadline since I was moving. Gio came back (AGAIN ON TIME) and finished the job. Beyond the regrouting, he rebuilt the areas of the backboard that had been damaged. And Gio spent more than a full day working on the bathroom. No handyman would have been able to do the job in 2 - 4 hours. And the results (see photos) speak for themselves. The grouting is picture-perfect. He was so easy to communicate with and work with. I'm prefacing this with I don't oftentimes write reviews. The wife and I purchased a new development property and it turns out the builders cut major corners in our apartment. That being said all of our tiles were falling off of our walls. We decided to replace all the tiles of three of the walls in the bathroom. Daniel and crew were upmost professional and paid extreme attention on every single detail of our bathroom. They demo'd, hauled away, replaced all the backerboard, installed a niche, installed all new tiles in our bathroom, painted our ceiling and even aligned the tiles on opposite sides of the bathroom. I'm confident that this bathroom is here to last. Best of all they fixed up a few things the original builders messed up on. They fixed the framing, added extra backerboard where needed, tightened loose pipes etc. I couldn't ask for a better experience for the first major renovation I've ever had. I hired Grout Pros NYC to repair/replace a tiled shower pan installed by a different contractor when I did a full bathroom renovation. The water pooled in different areas of the pan so you were standing in water and had to squeegee it down the drain after showering. The process with this company was very efficient. I heard back from Elizabeth very quickly after reaching out. I sent some pictures and measurements and received an estimate of fair price and timeline the next day and they were able to schedule the work within my window of availability. The work was estimated to take 5 days but was completed in 4 days. Daniel and Carlos arrived on Tuesday morning and completed Friday afternoon and these guys never stopped working while they were here. Daniel is fantastic. He walked me through what they were going to do and exactly how they were going to do it and what materials would be used. Daniel and Carlos were courteous and professional. They did a great job putting protection down and covering areas end there was very little dust. They left my place spotless every day. The work came out great. This review (and any I ever write) is written based on the belief that the only time a 5 star review should be given is if the job was absolutely flawless. Call me crazy. Pros: the team was very friendly, communication was good, they showed up on time, I could tell they were making their best effort (they were on the job for 12+ hours!). Cons: attention to detail and consistency, clean up and protection could be greatly improved. I had my less than 1 yr old shower fully regrouted after a nightmarish experience with my GC where the grout never cured so going into this I was already very stressed out about the whole thing. The grout cured after being done by Grout Pros, so that's good, but: a *lot* of tiles were chipped along the edges in the process, like a lot lot, which was definitely a bummer. They are tiny chips but there's a lot of them and it's not ideal, especially since the grout being removed was very soft and shouldn't have been that difficult to remove. Some of the chips could have been covered up if more grout was put into the joints but the grout wasn't filled in up to the surface of the tile (which is just what I prefer, a more full joint, so might not be an issue for others). There is also some inconsistency in the texture of the grout (not smooth in some places), and some minor pinholes in some areas, a couple areas of discoloration, and a couple places where the grout is too low. Also, there was no protection put down, which I think is surprising. At the very least, there should be a blanket put down in the tub and the floor should be covered (they did a quick cleanup at the end but we still had to spend 2+ hours doing major scrubbing and cleaning as there was grout residue literally everywhere). I had to remove some scratches from my wall, tub, and floor, and there is some grout on the ceiling. There is grout in my shower door hardware, which should have been taped off. Putting down some protection and taping off hardware etc is a small thing that would make a big difference. They were really nice, I wish the job was perfect, but it wasn't -- it also could have been a lot worse (I'd hate to see what kind of job any other company with worse reviews would have done). Thus the 3 stars which I think is fair. read more

I had this company redo the grouting and caulk in my two showers and even the floor in the bathroom. First, I will say that the guys that came over were really nice and attentive, especially Daniel. One other guy had a bad shoulder and the third barely spoke English and was apparently learning the work. But Daniel sounded really knowledgeable and patiently explained everything that needed to be done and future maintenance. Part of the floor in one bathroom had tiles starting to crack, and this was after almost 20 years when it was originally done. They ended up completely redoing that section of the floor with new subsurface and tiles. A month later, the grout already came out and they had to come back and redo it. The floor section is not even as level as before, as part of the tiles stick up at an angle. The ceiling of another shower had all the grout redone. The problem was that the guy doing it had a bad shoulder and the grout ended up with different color shading, apparently because his shoulder issue didn't allow him to do it correctly. I didn't watch, so maybe he even skipped some sections, I don't know. Some parts of the shower also had the grouting in uneven shades. It's not very obvious, but considering the original grout job from 20 years ago stayed nearly perfect until a few years ago, this was not a good sign. In the end, the work was ok, which is not what I paid for considering they charge a premium price, which we were willing to pay to get an excellent result. In my opinion, an experienced handyman could have given us the same result. Grout Pros should have given us something better and something we were happy with, not just content. read more

I highly recommend Grout Pros! The previous tenant didn't take care of the place at all and it really showed. But with a limited renovation budget, I couldn't plan much for my bathroom given everything else that needed to change. My bathroom is 100% prewar with subway wall tiles and octagon diamond floor tiles - all with white grout that couldn't be scrubbed clean no matter what I threw at it. After two days of Daniel and Gio regrouting the walls and floor, it looks like a brand new bathroom. The difference really is night and day! I've been peeling the seals from the side of my bathtub. I needed to re-caulk my bathtub. They responded quickly, explain the typically process and was able to get Daniel in. Daniel arrived on time, and completed the work. He was attentive and noticed some water in the glass frame door and used a dryer to get the water out. I asked a few questions on how I can stop getting mold and black spots around the side and edge of the tub. He recommended sponge instead of a brush. Brush creates pocket holes for water to seep in. He also mentioned a color sealant for the tile wall but wasn't trying to upsell. The work was pretty straight forward, he completed it in 1.5 hours. They accepted personal check or cash. I had a somewhat unusual job for the Grout Pros- I wanted the tile in my 1937 bathroom restored to its original appearance. This meant replacing patched tiles on the wall and the floor with salvaged tile I'd collected from other units in my building. What made things even more difficult was that the first tile contractor I'd hired proved not only unable to do the work, but caused a good amount of damage to the walls with his fumbling. Elizabeth was very responsive to my messages and Daniel and his team came over within a couple of days to survey the damage. They did a truly excellent job in restoring the tile, and worked with very limited materials since the previous contractor had damaged many of the original tiles I'd collected. I couldn't be happier with the work and the team was at all times courteous and neat. Daniel and Lenin were fantastic! Very professional, and respectful of house rules as well as our building's COVID protocols. We just purchased and moved into our first home, in a co-op building, and had found an issue with the tile in the master bathroom in the final walkthrough (upon examination, a loose tile came off completely and the wall behind looked like it had mold, which my husband is allergic to). Daniel came to do the estimate (mask on, shoes off) and noted that it didn't look like the tile had been properly installed when the previous owner redid the bathroom - there wasn't full coverage on the tile that came off, no vapor barrier behind the tile to protect from moisture, no caulk at the seams, etc. Given the pandemic, it wasn't realistic for us to undertake a full remodel but he was able to recommend a fix that would at least waterproof the shower for now, and ballparked that cost on the spot. Grout Pros followed up promptly with an estimate and COI. Daniel and Lenin regrouted and caulked the master bath, caulked the shower in the second bath, and caulked around the kitchen counter - they were careful and took their time, worked around my toddler's naptime, and still got it all done in one day. When they got behind the loose tiles and found just sheetrock (should be greenboard and/or vapor barrier, apparently), they made sure to let me know for future reference, and even noted that the little nook in the wall didn't seem to be sloped properly so we could make sure to dry it off regularly to avoid more damage. Our bathroom looks like new and we feel prepared to maintain it ahead of a proper fix in the future. We've already passed along their info to two of our neighbors who want to get some work done, and would recommend them to anyone who wants high-quality work from trustworthy techs. read more

This was our second time using grout pros. They are very professional and great communicators. We contacted grout pros on Yelp and they quickly responded and let us know they are available to do the job. We had an unfortunate incident in our Airbnb where one of our slide glass shower doors shattered. Daniel promptly went to take measurements and let us know a few routes we could go to fix. After getting quotes for us we were able to get a custom piece of glass made and installed in little over a week. Payment was easy as well using zelle. I highly recommend this company and we will continue to use them and trust them with our projects. I had such a great experience with Grout Pros, starting from my initial email with Elizabeth about the project to Daniel and Giovanni leaving me with a shiny new bathroom! Elizabeth quickly arranged for Daniel to come on site for an estimate, he reviewed the project and then explained what needed to be done so that I had a complete understanding of the scope of work, after talking with him I got a solid feeling that he was the man for the job. The job involved replacing loose tiles, re-grouting/caulking the tub, replacing two sections of water damaged walls, did some tiling on one side and painted the other and then installed a safety rail in the tub, it was all done in a day! My shower was poorly grouted when it was first installed a few years ago - it was leaking into the downstairs at a steady stream. The plumbers found that it was just cracked and crumbling grout all around the shower. This of course came to a head while I was on my way out of the country on vacation for 2 weeks.
