I really wish there was a way to give a six star review here. I think most of us have negative experiences to report regarding home improvement jobs. Well, this is certainly not one of them. Everyone we dealt with couldn't have been nicer or more professional. Special kudos to Joseph and Manny as they were here doing the work. They showed up on time and took obvious pride in their work. They replaced our shower stall floor and it was done flawlessly. Sadly it seems rare these days to find individuals who are skilled, professional and trustworthy. He saved my bathroom! After a terrible experience with a contractor in September and October, I called Nick for an estimate to fix the awful grout work that the contractor had done. The grout was uneven, discolored, cracking after a few days, etc. The tiles were cut poorly and also not installed properly. I had spent enough money on renovating my bathroom and didn't want to start over from scratch. I knew that I couldn't change the tiles, but I could at least try to fix the grout. Nick gave me a great price for removing and then replacing all of the grout and caulking. Nick the Tileman review Nick The Tileman is a polite and hard working gentleman who may be able to handle the installation of vinyl planks or (maybe) a backsplash, but cannot be trusted with anything more "complicated" than that. Nick was hired to remove old flooring and install Italian porcelain tiles of excellent quality in my basement. On our first contact, Nick dedicated 30 minutes to go over the process and politely answer all of my questions. I was extremely clear about the type of tiles (Italian Porcelain) I had purchased as well my expectations as far as quality of the work, and Nick expressed confidence that he could handle the job with excellence and care for the details. Nick is a respectful man, and I was in peace when I handled him the keys to my home. As far as respect for my belongings, I am positive I made the right judgement. Unfortunately, he could not handle the job and the quality of the work he delivered is mediocre, as you can see in these images. He blamed it on the quality of the tiles (long planks of Italian porcelain, exactly the ones I described on our first conversation). Nick and his workers disagreed whether a mud job was necessary or not. He opted for proceeding without it. The tiles were UNLEVELED all around the unit. The spacing between the tiles is FAR FROM UNIFORM. He left some areas in the middle of a room WITHOUT GROUT. The pattern in which he installed the tiles was UNEVEN. Some tiles were CHIPPED and horribly PAINTED, which made them even worse. The pictures speak for themselves. Even though I was very unsatisfied, I was ready to accept the poor job as it was (not much could be at this point) and only asked Nick to fix a small area which was the most terrifying to look at. He said he would step outside to check on the availability of one of his workers and never came back. I still owed a very small balance of materials he had purchased for the installation and tried to call him on the subsequent days, however, Nick blocked my number. This is my experience with Nick The Tileman. Look at the pictures and take your own conclusions. I deeply regret having trusted him with this job and recommending him to my family. Nick did a terrific job redesigning the tile work and installing new tiles in my bathtub. My bathtub used to have a shelf adjoining the shower wall that was a few inches above the tub. It would stay wet and the caulk would mildew over the course of time. Nick suggested we retile to raise the shelf up by 30 inches to avoid all the water. In the process of raising the shelf Nick also made the tiles a uniform size whereas previously I had one row toward the bottom that were smaller. Nick regrouted the tile expertly. The shower looks great and I am totally satisfied. In addition to doing great work, Nick is thoughtful about working within a budget. He gave me a few options at different price points. read more

I hired Nick the Tile Man to redo the kitchen floor tiles that was poorly laid by a previous general contractor.  I figured since I'm hiring specifically a tile contractor, this company would know what they were doing.   6 months later, the grout started to come out and the tiles were loose again.  In fact, when I'm walking directly over the tiles, you can hear that it's hollow underneath.  I immediately called the guy who installed the tiles and he promised that he would fix it.  After scheduling a date, he never showed up or answered my phone calls or text messages. I then called Nick, the owner of Nick the Tile Man company.  After 2 months of chasing him down with phone calls and text messages, he finally came to my apartment to look at the work.  He blamed this work squarely on his subcontractor.  So he basically subcontracted the work out to a non-licensed contractor.  Now this is ILLEGAL.  In fact, what ended up happening was that I paid more for this service since I had to pay both the subcontractor and Nick the Tile Man.   However instead of making it right, he tried to take advantage of me again.  He wanted to charge me to patch up the poor work by removing the grout and caulking the tiles together - essentially gluing them. Now there are two major problems here.  One, everyone who knows basic physics, knows that if it's hollow underneath the tiles, gluing the tiles above the space would only mask the problem.  I even had 4 other professional tilers said that I would need to completely start over and redo the tile work for it to be done correctly.  If I did it Nick's way, I would have deal with loose and even broken tiles later.  Second of all, why are you charging me to redo the work that you didn't do correctly (and illegally) in the first place?   Do yourself a favor, please don't hire this dishonest, money hungry man.  He doesn't deserve your business. read more

I used Nick and his team to do two bathrooms with extensive tile work. Both bathrooms were gut renovations and the tile went floor to ceiling in each. The job came out great! Nick quoted me a fair price and then performed at the highest level. The first bathroom had an intricate floor layout and subway tile walls throughout. The second bathroom had floor tiles mounted on mats but with small pieces that often fell out of the matting and a double border. The wall tiles went all the way to the ceiling too. In both cases, the guys went all out to make things perfect. Small angle cuts on the first floor came out beautifully and on the second, they kept track of all the little pieces with a teacup!
