    Cobb salad
    Robert M.

Just had lunch here today. I'm not sure what all the one star reviews are about. The owners are super nice and friendly. The service was flawless. Blackhawk Plaza is an absolute ghost town so we were literally all alone in the restaurant. Super nice day to sit outside on the patio. Chicken Caesar had a tad too much dressing (and no chicken). Cobb was very good even though the chicken was slightly overcooked.

Not sure how this place has good ratings... my Cobb salad was awful!!! My chicken was dry, the hard boiled egg was overcooked and the avocado was hard and sliced super thin. Customer service was okay and the wine was horrible. When I asked if it was Merlot... she said yes and showed me the open bottle. She could tell I didn't like it, nor offered me a choice of something else.

    Chicken calzone

The chicken calzone! Regular sized fork, knife and napkin for scale in the picture. It was not mini. At $20.64 (tax included, not tip) that was 2 meals for one hungry me. I very happily packed my leftovers to take home. The calzone was made fresh, came out piping hot and the inside was filling, and hearty (homestyle maybe would be a better word?). I went on a quiet Sunday afternoon and chose the restaurant because I wanted peace and a pleasant comfortable ambience on a warm day. I'd go back if I lived closer, and needed a break from home cooking.

We decided to try a new restaurant for dinner that was close to Yersen's because we planned to have gelato of dessert, but dinner wasn't planned. We found Nilo's restaurant via Yelp and decided to try it. We ordered fettuccine Alfredo, kids pesto pasta, kids spaghetti, the scallop calamari shrimp pasta and a soup and salad. For each of our dishes, we all felt like it tasted homemade and not fake or overproduced. It was nice to walk in and have a cozy family vibe inside. I really liked that the minestrone was full of vegetables that reminded me of ratatouille. I also liked that the Ceasar salad dressing was made from scratch because the garlic was delicious!

Nilo's is a small Italian restaurant in the Blackhawk mall. We started with the pear Gorgonzola salad. The flavor captured our taste buds nicely. The staff nicely split this for us since they knew we were splitting it. Next was the salmon fettuccine. There was a good amount of salmon nicely placed on properly cooked fettuccine. Ground Parmesan is available for the asking. We sat next to the fireplace. Since it was hot it obviously wasn't on:-) It will be fun to go back when it is cooler. The owner had a nice west bay pizza shop for many years do, to no surprise, he made a flatbread/pizza garlic bread. It added great flavors to our dinner. We need to try other flatbreads. The mall needs more foot traffic but that didn't stop Nilo's from creating great food.

Lovely decor, good food, excellent service. The brownie wasn't really a brownie but actually a chocolate cake. Lots of choices in the menu.

It does get very noisy with so many people talking at once, but it is still a lot of fun. The wine expert made each pairing both fun and educational. The menu was well-thought-out, featuring a Grand Aïoli with shrimp, a warm goat cheese salad, French onion soup, Steak Frites, and Crème Brûlée, each paired with French wine. A few of the wines were of high quality, elevating the whole night. My favorite was the Steak Frites with its spot-on sauce au poivre. To top it off, the owner, Theresa, came out to greet our group personally. We will definitely be back for future events.

The cocktails are good, but the prices do not match the experience or food quality. Some of the food was decent, but portions were inconsistent (like a tiny piece of short rib for $40). The two servers we had were very nice, however, the restaurant was not busy and our table and everyone around us had at least one issue or another. Major problems: *Not being told the specials until asking (and after ordering an appetizer). *Going to order Bolognese and being told "we are out of Bolognese." *Being delivered the 3 item dessert menu and then going to order 10 minutes later to be told "we are out of Tiramisu." *The pasta is not homemade or even fresh pasta I thought maybe I was expecting too much, but the gentlemen at the table behind us told them "I came here to eat Italian food, not to eat a pork chop, I don't understand why you don't have Bolognese." The other tables all seemed to have issues, whether it be with the service pacing or random things like the explanation of the special which was called "Frutti di Mare," but was a scallop or salmon dish on a pea puree (no pasta) and absolutely nothing close to what Frutti di Mare actually is. All in all, $300 (we brought our own wine) later, and while I wish this place luck, I'll be going elsewhere.

The "event" portal was quick to take my full payment but no one ever responded to my messages in the portal. I called and left three messages to have someone call me back. Finally after 3+ weeks, Linda (the owner) called me back to answer my questions. At that time, the event was completely prepaid. It was lunch and beverages for 60 people. I was told if we did not have the entire guest count, I would be refunded the difference. Going thru the portal, I filled out the final headcount and menu 2 weeks prior to the event. On the day of the baby shower, they were still scrambling to set up when our guests were arriving. Very tacky!! We had 50 people. Lunch was served family style, and even though the food was delicious, there was not enough to feed our hungry crowd. (10 less people I paid for and still not enough food) Linda ensured me there would be staff to come out and take our drink orders. We had one server that came out ONCE to take drink orders. Everyone had to go to the bar to get their own drink. No one came to check on us at all throughout the entire event!! Again, paying for a drink package for 60 people, you would expect everyone to get something to drink. Nope! I really wanted our guest of honor to enjoy this special day and sadly it was a major disappointment for her and all of our guests. I have also text the owner with my concerns and asking when I can expect a refund and have not gotten a response.

Poor server also spilled water all over me but I was thankfully wearing shorts so it was okay. Food was great though! We ordered a Sedona chicken sandwich with garlic fries and chicken picatta. Sandwich was kinda like a grilled chicken burger. The thicken breast was moist and fries were crispy and tasty. Chicken picatta was delicious and perfectly mixed with mashed potatoes, spinach, capers. The chicken wasn't dry. Pear martini was the best. I would come here just for this drink. I think they home make the syrup. Old fashioned was good but a little sweet.
