Nick's is without question my favorite restaurant. My wife and I have been here several times in the last year or so, and every time it's outstanding. Chef Derek is one of the best anywhere and his talent is evident in every dish. We like to sit at the counter facing the kitchen because it's interesting to watch his team work to put all that great food out. Last time there we started with some Narragansett oysters, which were fantastic. Before we even got them, we were given an amuse-bouche of whipped warm goat cheese with cucumber, on a toast. Even in that tiny bite you could appreciate the contrasts of texture, temperature, and flavors. I could have had a dozen of those! We also had the charcuterie plate, and without doubt, Nick's makes the best in the state. Every detail and preparation were carefully considered and flawless. Delicious and perfect. The service is great and they have some excellent bartenders too. Nick's get my highest recommendation. You can't get a better meal in Rhode Island (and in a lot of other places too). read more

One of the tastier places in Providence for a solid brunch. It's unassuming yet elegant quarters make for a cozy and natural gathering place. Grab a seat at the bar and you can enjoy a glimpse of the inner workings from the open kitchen layout. Creative menu of locally sourced ingredients make for some really flavorful dishes. Portions sizes aren't huge, but just the right amount for 2. WARNING: Nick's fans may not like this review. I don't want this to be a long review but I might not have a choice. I finally ended up here after all the hype on a slow Thursday morning, before work. My bf & I specifically made time to enjoy a nice lunch together before we both had to work since we have busy schedules. We walked into Nick's and there is one man ahead of us, waiting to be seated. We weren't greeted at all and there were two bartenders present and a server. About five minutes later, a worker comes back and finally asks us, "how many?" After being seated, we waited 5-10 minutes until a worker came to our table. (They weren't even busy). Anyway, we ordered our drinks and mine was pretty watered down & I sent it back for a mimosa. The watered down drink was $10 and was made of vodka, maple syrup, & bitters, called North or Northern something. Blah. My bf had their version of a screwdriver and his was watered down as well. If they want to serve watered down drinks, it should cost $5, not $10. The Food -- I was excited to try the food and ordered the black beans and eggs. My bf ordered the Point Judith fish. (There were two Point Judith dishes & idk which one it was). He also ordered their carrot soup which came out maybe fifteen minutes later? Kind of a long time for soup. Twenty minutes go by...thirty minutes...forty minutes...fifty??! I finally built up the nerve and asked the bartender, "Miss...do you know when our food will come out?" A man who came in way after us got his food before us. A woman who came in after that man got her food way before us. Bartender goes to check on our food and I took a bathroom break because I was waiting so long. My black beans were not hot nor warm...they were cold. My eggs were also cold. This place is so fancy that it takes an hour to cook over easy eggs? AN HOUR. Time is wasted and now we have to work soon! My bf's dish comes out 5-10 minutes later and it's the wrong order. Wrong order and very fishy smelling! The manager, instead of just apologizing and fixing the mistake and saying, "we're sorry...we'll fix that right away"...she goes back and forth with him telling what comes with the dish and what doesn't, being kind of rude. Finally, after she gave us her thought, she takes the dish back to have it corrected with a fake, passive aggressive smile and all. As soon as she turned around...that smile turned upside down quick! SMH (shake my head). As Michelle in Full House says, "HOWWW WUDE!" Then the bartender comes by and tells us that, that happens all the time b/c there's two Point Judith dishes. Hmm...wouldn't you guys want to fix the issue then??? Instead of having the same occurrence and unhappy customers? So, we ate...well, I ate/picked at my food and he barely touched his food. After picking at my food, I went to the bathroom and upon returning, my bf said they're going to give us a "treat" for mixing up his order. You guys will see the "treat" in the photos...Why even bother giving us that? He felt like it was an insult. We did not want to spend over two hours here, waiting for food. We will not return to Nick's on Broadway. Nope. read more

This review applies to breakfast/brunch only, as I have only experienced breakfasts and brunches at Nick's. I know tons of people like this place. I just...don't find it that awesome. The food is beautiful. But the taste is fine. I was not blow away. I tried this place a couple of times, and wondered if it was just an off day or maybe I was feeling cranky or something. Every time a dish would arrive, my eyes would be feasting, but my taste buds would be disappointed. This place was billed to me as something special, both by some friends and by the ambiance itself. The appearance of the dishes, the tweezer-placed tufts of herbs and leaves- they all give the impression of sophisticated, complex food. But it just wasn't there for me. Nothing was memorable. I'm bummed because I really, really wanted to like this place. On a positive note, the service was fabulous!! And I loved sitting at the bar, watching everyone in action. read more

We got to sit at the bar facing the kitchen which was a great experience watching the food being cooked. Service was great, food was even better! I'm certainly not a Nick's regular, and haven't been since before the move from down the street, but friends of mine absolutely worship the place and so I thought we'd come back. Drinks at the bar before dinner were top notch. The bar server was really sharp, the staff as a whole in fact are really a class act. Polished, polite, really really fine. The wine list shows real interest and effort, as does the broad offering of aperitifs. Kudos to the the "cellar" selection, a special bottle served by the glass, preserved via Coravin. Nice touch. Our dinner had its high marks, and some not quite as much. A start with the soup. Smoothed asparagus, potato, and leek, served warm in a shallow bowl and garnished with a dollop of sour, sour cream and soft, fragrant olive oil. The asparagus still grassy, rich with cream, and that right little tart, great dish. A filet of Scup followed. My grandfather would have loved it, as long as we hid from him the price. Its not a treasured fish, quite the opposite in fact, but growing up it was abundant and easy to catch from our little boat. I've never had it cooked so well. Heck I've never even seen it filleted without leaving a bone. This was pretty close to perfect, the greens wilting in the hot fish broth, the crispy skin of the fish left intact. The hot sauce garnish, which reminded me of a thinned romesco, could have used a lighter touch, a bit too strong for the fish IMO. But the whole thing ate very well, very enjoyable plate indeed. My wife's dish though, a Pesto Risotto with roasted chicken, was marred by a double dose of salt. Too much salt to eat more than a few bites. Shame it was, because it certainly looked nice. Desert I typically skip, but in this case we did partake, and were rewarded. Sorbet of cranberry and lime, had a back note of fine liquor, tart, icy and cold. Served with wedges of sweet, ultra ripe, chilled grapefruit, tart orange and mint, in a swirl of sweet cream, whipped and garnished with house made jello bites. Colorful, playful, fun, and tasty, hit on every one. read more

Lifelong Rhode Islander and I had never been here. Stopped in this morning for breakfast: O M G THE. BEST. Benedict I've ever had. (Benny with added chicken sausage). Everything is scratch-made and locally sourced, and you can taste the difference. Coffee, perfect. Even the water didn't have that "tap water taste". Service was amazing ... friendly, genuine and attentive. I brought my husband here for a birthday brunch - we got SO MUCH food! Apple sauced cocktails, ginger lime muffin, hotcakes, honey chicken and biscuits, the special scrambled, and griddled pesto bread. There was a little bit of a wait but it was so worth it, we ended up sitting at the chef counter and watched the behind the scenes magic. I've followed Nicks on Instagram for almost a year so when a friend suggested we go there for a late dinner, I was thrilled! We were seated on the back patio under a full moon and heating lamps. I ordered the fish chowder and mushroom crostini. My friend got the tomato squash soup and a chicken club sandwich. We each got two glasses of wine. Simply sublime!! We scored a a window table inside. COVID protocols are safe and comfortable. Service was very good as far as the friendly factor and concern and comfort for the diner. There were some significant waits which I will detail later. The menu is pretty exciting. We were guided by our server and chose a black bean and egg dish and another egg dish with home fries and a biscuit. We ordered two pots of tea. It took 20 minutes to arrive. Our entrees came close to an hour after order. I don't mind waiting when I know but there were no updates and we were honestly confused why there was such a long lag. I admit, I have no idea how many diners were in the back room or patio but our room had three tables at any given times so 8 in total. Still, the food was worth the wait. Flavors are spot on and quality, second to none. It was a wonderful dining experience. Better communication would have helped us relax as we know our table was needed at 2. 3.5 stars. Went here for brunch with the gf, reliving good times in Providence. The French toast and sauteed vegetables were fantastic, but the pulled pork sandwich feel flat for me. It was more like an egg sandwich with the two bites of leftover pulled pork that you had from not wanting to waste from lunch yesterday added on top as an afterthought to give it a bit of flavor. Falls well short of the standards that Nick's usually sets. Will go back but won't get that pulled pork sando. read more

I recommend calling ahead before actually going just to get a heads up. Other than that the food is great, setting is trendy, and the staff friendly. We were in Providence for my daughter's graduation. She selected Nicks based on vegan options since I am vegan. There was nothing on the menu that was vegan except for fruit and roasted potatoes. Tip: go early to get a seat (10am). When it gets to around 11am on the weekends, it gets really tough to get seated quickly. You pretty much need a small party to get seated in under 30 minutes. Top brunch location in Providence. Watching them work in the open kitchen is the most amazing experience. Would only recommend sitting at the kitchen bar if you're with people you don't want to talk to... kidding, but in all seriousness it's distracting (in a good way) to see them working in the kitchen. Their eggs benedict is always a solid option. They're really flexible with the protein you want to add to the benedict. Pancakes are delicious. The beans and eggs are a good option for a nice hearty breakfast. They had a nice omelet special with goat cheese that was delicious as well. read more

By far the best experience I have ever gotten at a restaurant. My fiancé and I came in for dinner after getting engaged earlier that day. There was no wait which was awesome but then we sat down and had the best server known to man. Krissy(Chrissy) was super friendly and made us feel like there was no one else in the restaurant. She never fell short of making our experience memorable. As for the chefs, they were a killer team last night. They always had our food hot and tasting magnificent. I recently had the brioche french toast with whipped cream and I couldn't believe the texture and taste. I'm a ratio guy and appreciated the perfect toast to cream to syrup ratio! Drink were yummy - I had wine and my girlfriend had an elderberry cosmo. (OK we had several). Started with the charcuterie board - not what I was expecting. Picked veggies (awesome) and then a ton of pâté...not my fav but good flavor. The highlight was the grilled focaccia. Had the tomato soup after. Yummy. Finished with mussels for me and the most divine risotto for her. I wish I would have gotten that. Butternut squash risotto with toasted hazelnuts to top. Def a foodie spot. Would have given 5 stars but the space is very loud and we had to order our food all at once. Bartender seemed a bit space and had to ask us to repeat ourselves several times. There were mostly pros with this place: - Food was amazingly delicious & beautifully plated (I had the eggs Benedict & my son had an omelette; perfection! And the home fries...they have sweet potatoes mixed in...mmmm!) - Server was friendly & knowledgeable regarding the menu - Cocktails were tasty & not watered down - Menu had a pretty good variety without being overwhelming IMHO, there were a few cons too: - Ridiculous wait & not enough room for patrons waiting for a table. Now, I was told that it doesn't matter what time you come in for breakfast on the weekend, the wait is going to be pretty long (was told this by at least half a dozen people that I know personally, & by every single person who was in the waiting area waiting to be seated). - Place is small; not too many tables. And, seems like 1/2 of the tables are high tops; difficult for short, overweight, disabled, &/or elderly patrons...or those with small children. Felt bad; the day I went, a lady with a bad leg had to have her turn skipped a few times because only high tops were available & she couldn't climb in the chair. Overall, the food was so good & there was so much on the menu that I wanted to try, I can say with 100% certainty, I will be back. I just have to make sure I have my morning open if I'm going for breakfast...or try coming one day during the middle of the week. read more

Have you ever felt the ever so subtle feeling of othering? This looks like you arriving before tables around you and them receiving their food, while you wait for 30 mins to put in your order. This also looks like your waiter being extremely attentive to other guest, bringing them silverware, pitchers of water and checking on their food, while you ask for your every need. Well this is what we experienced here. There was one difference between me and the rest of the room. It was my color. We were in this restaurant from 6:45-9. We received or food at 8:45.
