After years of going to random tailors to get my jeans, shirts, dress pants, etc fixed.. I have finally found a tailor that has earned my permanent business. These guys are top-notch and know exactly what they are doing, I came to Nick Lopez to have a tuxedo completely cut re-cut and fitted to my body. I'm a short guy and so finding a suit in store that fits me just right is near impossible. I came in contact with almost every single person at the shop, and they were all so welcoming and pleasant to work with. They remember my name when I come in for services and always double check their work when I try my pieces on. I was most impressed with the work they did on my tuxedo, I came to pickup my tux on a Thursday, one day before the gala I was expected to attend. After trying on the tux, just when I thought it was perfect.. these guys were not happy with the final outcome. I didn't ask them to re-do the work, they asked me if they could take it back and make the necessary changes they felt were needed. I was a bit worried about dropping it off since the event was the following day but I gambled and trusted them with my pieces. Most people probably do not have the time to go back and forth, time is precious, but I was able to work around my schedule because I needed this to fit just right. I came back the following day, just a few hours before the gala and I do not regret having them take it back for some more work. The tux fit perfectly! Snug in all the right areas (DAT ASS!!). Of course everything that is done with high quality care also comes with top dollar costs. NLT is a bit more expensive than any other place I have been to but the services are so amazing that I am willing to pay whatever it is to look on point! read more

I had two jackets custom-made by another tailor in town. I waited a long time for them and they didn't look good. They hung in my closet, unworn. Evenutally, I decided I needed to try to get them redone so that I might actually be able to wear them. So I took them to Rolando at Nick Lopez Tailoring who basically worked a miracle on them. The word "Excellence" best describes this tailor business -- the best in town in my opinion. First, they are located in a professional office building. I used to opt for seamstresses that would come to my home for fittings or operated at a drycleaner business or strip mall and was always disappointed time and time again. Second, the personnel -- the head tailors have an expert hand and detailed eye to ensuring a proper and adequate fit. They imbue professionalism and experience in their service. Lastly, I found the pricing to be fair and reasonable -- if you are looking for quality tailoring and fit, this is the only place I will go to and entrust alterations of my fashion investments. They are true professionals making impeccable suits and clothing as well as alterations. Sadly, I have had too many experiences where my clothing was poorly altered and in some cases ruined by other unprofessional tailors. For example, I had Nick's tailor repair a dress that had been hemmed too short by a previous seamstress. He was able to repair a hole that was made in the fabric by the seamstress' haphazard alteration and thankfully salvage the length. I also brought Nick's tailor a dress that a previous seamstress had altered to remove excess fabric from the front. Nick's tailor showed me how the previous seamstress had in fact not removed the excess fabric at all, but just awkwardly moved the buttons. Thankfully he was able to correct then previous alteration. Lastly, I brought Nick's tailor a dress to have the length of the sleeves reviewed -- the previous seamstress had allegedly shortened the sleeves and I felt that she had not taken out enough. Sure enough, I was right -- Nick's tailor was able to show me how the former seamstress had in fact hood-winked me. Although she had charged me for alterations, she had never altered the garment at all! Nick's tailor inspected the length with a ruler, he reviewed all the stitching at both ends of the sleeve, he inspected the thread and the stitches and showed me how there had not been any work done after all. He was impeccable in his review of the garment and sadly discovered that the previous seamstress had lied to me. After this experience, I feel like I can truly trust Nick Lopez tailoring with my clothing. I will never go anywhere else for alterations again. As a woman, I have learned how important the "fit" of your clothing is, and I have found an impeccable eye and expert hand at Nick Lopez tailoring. They deserve all the accolades as true professionals of their trade! read more

Nick Lopez Tailoring saved my day. I was so devastated when my wedding dress did not look like the sample I tried on. The sample had a revealing low cut back with a few flowers covering a very fine no-see mesh. When I got my dress, the back was much higher and almost completely covered in flowers. I thought there was no hope because the mesh fabric was so fine and delicate. If anything tore, there would be no way to recover without an obvious mark. There were also seam lines behind many of the flowers. The dress was also A-line when I was expecting a mermaid cut. Rolando at NLT reshaped it to be mermaid and completely redesigned the flower pattern to remove them all and sew some back on strategically to not expose any seams. They were so careful and went through 2 rounds with me until everything was perfect. I'm so grateful for their help! read more

In order to understand why I'm only giving this place 2 stars, let me talk you through my experience with them. On my initial visit I took in 2 new suits and a pair of slacks to be altered. Suits jackets needed sleeves shorted and waists taken in just a bit. Suit slacks needed to be hemmed and waists/seats taken in a small amount. The third pair of slacks needed the waist and seat taken in. This amount of work was $500+ I made the mistake of picking up my alterations and telling them I'd try them on when I got home. When I got home, one of the suit jacket sleeves was so bad I could barely get my arm through the sleeve. One of the suit slacks only had one side of the seat taken in. It was obvious they just failed to make the alterations on both sides of the seat/legs. I tried on the third pair of slacks and initially thought "these aren't my slacks" but they fit and I just told myself I was going crazy. They were pretty close so maybe I was just being paranoid (we'll come back to that). So when I take the suit jacket and slacks back to Nick's to be redone, I also took in a suit that needed some work (jacket waist taken in and slacks waist/seat taken in). So that means on this trip I took in a two-piece suit, one suit jacket, and pair of suit slacks. When I returned to pick up this last alterations order, the real fun began. I gave them my ticket and they come back with just the suit. They say, "You had just the suit?". I told them know and that I also had a suit jacket and slacks. While trying on the suit, they come back with the two pairs of slacks! The one from my latest trip, and you guessed it, my original slacks from my first order. No kidding. They then say, "so you had a suit and two slacks?". I told them no and they had me go back in the back with them to all of their other customers orders to help look for the jacket. After some looking, I find it on a hanger with another customer's slacks with a similar material that someone must have thought matched my jacket. No tag on my jacket. For all they knew I could have just taken someone else's jacket. So I end up paying another $100+ for the alterations to the suit from my second order. For this price the alterations weren't that spectacular. I thought I'd feel like my suits fit better but I still felt like the suits could all fit better. May as well save some money at a more reasonable place. Plus, at this price point I'd expect much better organization and care for my order. I wonder what the customer whose pants I still have in my closet is thinking. Hopefully he doesn't come asking for them before I'm able to take them back to Nick's. I never saw "Nick" so maybe he is reason for this place having such a great reputation. Who knows. The lady there tried to blame their new computer system for the fiasco. Very disappointed. I'd consider giving them one star. I gave them two stars because the people working there were at least nice and apologetic. read more

Horrible experience: I took a suit to be altered on June 16th. They took measurements etc. and said it would be ready within a couple of weeks and would text me. I never received a text so I called on July 5th. They said that my order had been ready since June 24th. I mentioned that I never received a text. They reiterated that they texted me. I asked what number was on file. They entered my phone number incorrectly. I went to the store to try the suit on and pick it up. I was handed the suit to try on. It fit like it did when I was initially measured. After spending several minutes in the mirror debating whether or not I gained weight. I told them it seemed to fit the same. Then someone told me there was not enough fabric for the alteration. The other worker interrupted and said that my number had been entered incorrectly and was apologetic. The other worker seemed not to care and said "I tried, but there wasn't enough fabric." It would seem that the tailor would have an idea or know whether or not the suit could be let out while measuring and pinning me. I now have to purchase a suit for an event and have it tailored with limited time. Seemingly, if there was an error of this magnitude, they may say something like this: "I apologize for our mistake. Do you have an event to go to? When is it? We do custom suits as well, would you like to take a look at some options? I know a few places in the area that have great suits if you need one quickly. If you have anything else to bring in, I will take care of you. I want to make things right." Instead, I walked out feeling let down and that they could care less about my needs or doing future business with me. read more

My husband has gotten 2 blazers made from here. Both are beautiful! My husband gets warm pretty easily so he had these made without a lining, I think he said they were deconstructed. And he can move around in them so easily and when he moves his arms the the shoulder portion of the blazer doesn't move up like it did with his old blazers. He also got a linen dress shirt to try because it's supposed to be better for staying cool. If it works out when the weather gets warmer then we'll have to get some more dress shirts made. We also got a few things altered here. My husband got his old dress shirts modified and I needed to get a dress repaired. I guess my dress was an easy fix because they fixed it when I brought it in and didn't even charge me. I guess the tailoring work can be pricey but they do a great job. read more

Has anyone ever had this happen to them? You see the most perfect designer dress on the saks sale rack... it was originally $2000, but for some reason it is marked down to $180... Then you realize it's a size 10 and you are a size 4? Yeah, it happens...More often than you know. Nick however, can make it work for you. A friend of mine once bought a Zac Posen dress from the Australia target line on ebay... she got confused by the sizing and wanted to wear the dress for her birthday party the next day. Nick made a size 2 dress into a size 6 in less than 24 hours. After witnessing this, I became a Nick fan. When I need something really special tailored, I go to him. This man can do miracles! His prices are higher than most tailors, so I wouldn't go to get my jeans hemmed or to get a button fixed on a dress, but for really high quality pieces, Nick is the man. read more

If you want it done right, go to Nick Lopez Tailoring. I wouldn't be taking cheap replaceable items here but things you care about and want to make sure a good job is being done, this is the place. I bought a new suit from Theory and I really wanted it to fit like a glove so I brought it here. The place is nice and clean and has a window to see the work that is being done. You just get a good sense of workmanship. When I came in, I put on the suit, and he pinned the adjustments he thought I needed. This was exactly what I was looking for since some places ask you what adjustments you want, which makes no sense to me. I picked the adjustments I wanted and came back one week later to pick it up. They do have an option for quicker completions but I wasn't in a hurry. With all that said, the place is a bit pricey. With $25 a hem you know it isn't cheap. I also got the jacket taken in a little and that was $45. So make your judgement on the clothing item if you think it is worth it or not. If you have high expectations for quality and price is not as high of a concern, this is the palce to go. The customer service, workmanship, and overall experience is top notch. read more

I had been using another tailor in the Galleria/Uptown area of Houston but got tired of her seeming to charge whatever she thought you'd be able to pay (and not wanting to quote estimates in advance), so I looked around. I am so glad I found Nick Lopez Tailoring. I'm blown away by the quality of their work, the graciousness of their service and the amazing reasonableness of their prices. I used to make all my own clothes and know the difference between decent tailoring and expert tailoring and Nick Lopez does the latter--they get all the little details right, the finishes are good and the fit is always perfect. I trust their input when getting alterations as well and they regularly check to make sure you are still happy with work they did in the past when you come in again. I always tip substantially because I think their prices are so low it must be hard for them to make a living. I do like to support a former Marine who served in Vietnam and his family and business. Because they are so good and reasonable I take in things I might not otherwise alter just to have them fit perfectly. And since they are right across the street from the Galleria they are easy to reach by just crossing the street. read more

This review is for women's alterations. I cannot speak on bespoke suits or men's alterations because I've never had that done. Over the past probably year and a half I've taken about a dozen items there for alteration. I spent a lot of time reading reviews before I decided to come here and felt they would do a good job although the prices are higher than most other tailors for alterations. Even simple things like making a hem shorter are at least double what other places charge. I decided to try them and was more than happy to pay the prices as long as they did a good job and I was satisfied with the end result. I noticed the workmanship going downhill and after the last three times I've been there I will no longer go back and I can no longer in good conscience recommend this place. The first incident was when I brought a brand new silk blouse with the tags still attached to be taken in at the shoulders. When I came to pick it up, I noticed a visible snag on the silk in the front of the blouse. It was their fault and because they told me they couldn't fix the damage they gave me a store credit for the amount of the blouse. I was sad about the blouse because I really liked it and had never worn it but I thought: Ok, it happened, they tried to be fair and fix it even though the blouse is damaged. I'll come back. The second incident was when I went to alter the length of a skirt. They did a poor job and the skirt was way longer than what it was supposed to be. They said they would fix it. When I went back, the edges of the skirt were completely uneven and it was still longer than promised but they said there was nothing else they could do. I went home with a too-long skirt that I have yet to wear. The final straw was this last time I went in to have the shoulders and sides of a dress taken in. When I went to pick up the dress and try it on, the sides of the dress were bumpy and uneven. They did a terrible job and the dress looks worse than before I brought it in for alteration. I pointed this out and they said, "This is normal. We'll press it for you but there's nothing we can do." This is NOT normal. The edges of the dress were not raised and bumpy before I brought it in! The total for the alteration was $95 and change after tax. At that price, you would expect a better job. Three strikes and you're out. The bottom line is that the workmanship is poor quality and you definitely don't get what you pay for. They charge what they charge because they pay high rent for their premium location, not because they do a good job. I will be looking for another tailor and in the meantime will never go back. I still have unused credit there but I'd rather waste it than have them ruin another item of clothing. Do NOT recommend. read more

Nothing but good results here. I love the fact that they text you when your clothes are ready to be picked up. No guess work as to when in the day they will be ready! The staff is friendly and will do what you want rather than trying to push their aesthetic preferences on you but they will give advice if you need it. read more

I just received a beautiful sport coat for Christmas that needs to be tailored. I immediately thought of who I should have tailor my gift and my thoughts went back to Nick Lopez Tailoring. I dealt with Nicks less than a year ago when I moved to Houston because someone had recommended them. I was told that they where expensive but worth it. I spent approximately $700 for some tailoring and I was disappointed in the results and went back at least three times so they could get it right.
