I decided to stop in to this spot one day after looking online at multiple other shops. I was in the market for a tuxedo which would be the first one for me and was also going to be for my wedding. I scheduled an appointment online and met with Corrie one Saturday afternoon. She was very professional and helped me though the process. The whole process was very smooth and went quickly. She was able to answer any questions I had and guided me though everything. A month or so later I finally received my tuxedo. It fit perfectly and needed no alterations. I have recently purchased my first custom suit along with a couple of shirts. I've always had issues with off-the-rack suits, as I have broad shoulders and a slim waist so the suits would either be impossible to raise my arms in or have a lot of room in the midsection, making it look baggy. As the wedding date begins to approach, it was time to start searching for a nice suit for my groom. This was his first custom suit experience and I was looking far and wide to find a place that would provide the best quality with the best price. I was burnt out from looking for a well fitted suite for my slim, athletic build groom. For the price and alterations, I was better off getting a custom suit. Fortunately my search came to an end and I was able to find it with Christian at Balani. I have been to other custom suite locations in houston with my sister's husband and seen the procedure. After their guy left the competitor location, the process and details wasn't up to par so i decided to call Balani. I was very impressed with Christian's professionalism and knowledge for clothing. I was able to set up an appointment quickly and he came to our home later that week. He makes house calls! Definitely a plus because it helped with our work schedule. Christian came with his sample suite, shoes, and catalogs. BTW, he dresses very nice too. He begins by introducing himself and giving us information about himself personally and professional experiences in the clothing industry, with a specialty in suits of course. Christian was exactly what I was looking for to work with in having the perfect suit for my groom. He has the passion AND the knowledge. Compared to others, I was so impressed that he had both which made me confident in our purchase and selection, in addition to his suggestions. After making our final selection right then and there, he measured my fiance. I provided the deposit with my credit card and about a month later, he informed us the suit had arrived. Christian kept us in the loop the entire process via email of when the suit arrived, to when/where to meet for alterations, and the complete ensemble. It was a smooth, painless, and stress free process-- HUGE PLUS. What I noticed about the suit: Details, details, details, which provides a uniqueness to the suit along with true customization to the consumer. The beautiful stitching and lining on both the suit and pants. He even matched the interior of the jacket to match my wedding color/theme. I chose to work with Corrie Domingo after reading other glowing reviews on Yelp and Google and I have zero regrets about my decision. She understands great style and knows the swatches back and forth. I communicated to Corrie that I wanted two fun/loud suits that I could wear to parties and weddings, and that I wanted one professional suit that Would be conservative enough for the courtroom but still have some flair. She hit the nail on the head with the fabrics as well as the details such as the liner, lapel, ticket pocket, etc. The second fitting was a great experience too. I had lost about 2 inches on my waist by the time my suits came in (about 8 weeks I think). Corrie did a great job with the adjustments. They do in-house tailoring and the turn around time was very quick (less than a week for mine). I recently wore my peach jacket with blue pants to a wedding in San Diego. I wear a suit to work every day, so it's become sort of a uniform for me. I'm in a client-facing business and I work with some high end clients so appearance is important. Not trying to be showy; I just want to look sharp. Most of my co-workers and I are Josie Bank shoppers, a few venture to Dillards, Men's Warehouse, etc. The really fancy boys hit up Brooks Brothers and a few do mail-order stuff. All off the rack, no custom. So this guy Christian rolls in and showcases some pretty wild looking stuff - way beyond the navy blue/charcoal grey uniform with solid white or blue shirt I'm used to. At first, I'm thinking this stuff looks a little too hipster for a middle-aged dude that gave up on being cool in the 90s. The more he talked, the more I saw a guy that has a real firm grasp on what he's doing and a real passion for his craft. It's easy to appreciate anyone in any line of work that clearly knows their stuff and Christian knows his stuff. I had been thinking of trying the custom suit thing for a while and I guess something just clicked. Here's a guy pitching custom suits and I'm thinking of doing it. He obviously knows his business, so why not give him a try? So we do a meeting and he takes about 50 measurements and shows me all sorts of fabrics. It's sort of like the optometrist where he starts with a range and then narrows it down until you're happy with what you see. He pushed me a little out of my comfort zone, as any good sales consultant does. We got a little more patterned, a little more modern fit/cut, a little more interesting on the ties. I started with a couple of suits, a few shirts and ties. Could not possibly be happier. They fit PERFECTLY, I get tons of compliments, I feel better, I look better. I've heard once you do a custom suit you never go back and I get it now. My non-custom shirts and suits feel like dresses now with tons of excess fabric and a baggy fit. Now, suits are an investment and these are not cheap. If you're used to buy-one-get-38 free deals at doorbuster special places, you need to reset your meter. I used to buy $50 dress shoes. Allen Edmonds are $3-400 but I'll never go back to the throwaways. These off the rack deals are throwaway suits for those of us that wear them daily and travel frequently and whatnot. I've only had mine for a few months and can't testify to years of lasting quality yet, but the suits feel much more durable and I'm confident they'll last much longer. Additionally, Christian has given me some tips on how to care for them that should help as well. If you are wearing cheap suits (and yes, $300 is a cheap suit) and want to keep it cheap, I hear you. I did it for a while. If you're ready to step it up with just a suit or two to look extra sharp, or want to overhaul the wardrobe then Balani is a great place to go and Christian is the right guy to show you the way. I'll be back in a couple months to keep building the wardrobe a couple suits and a few shirts at a time, and it's all about whatever Christian says now. My big day is around the corner and I still don't have a tux picked out. I went to Saks, Bloomingdales, Macy's, Boutique Shops, Men's Warehouse,etc. in search or a tux. Nothing quite fit my awkwardly shaped body. I finally find something I like from Sak's but it's about $2500 for an off the rack tuxedo that kinda-sorta fit me but not really. It was a handsome Burberry tuxedo. I really wanted it but I would be settling on the fit. And no one wants to spend $2500 to settle.... So I am now scouring the web and asking my friends on where should I go to find a custom tailor. I wanted to have a special bespoke tux made for my wedding. I wanted to replicate that exact tux. I don't recall how exactly I landed on Balani Custom's site but I am sure glad I did. From my first conversation w/ Christian, I could tell he knew his stuff. I explained what I wanted and sent him some pictures and web links to the tuxedo on Burberry's site. We scheduled an appointment to meet at his office but I had some scheduling issues so Christian worked with me for our first appointment as my fiance and I lived pretty far out in West Houston. He made the drive to meet me at my residence around 6PM since it was convenient for me even though it was rush hour! He arrived at my house (very well dressed btw) with a few cases of sample clothes, books, brochures and much more. He showcased some of his materials and listened to me as I explained what I wanted. After about 1.5 hours of taking measurements, listening to me and making recommendations, I finally was able to nail down exactly what I wanted. Christian even made some recommendations for what would look good with my body type and I am so glad I went with what he suggested. I was able to make 1/2 payment on the spot by giving him my CC info and make the remaining payment upon pick up. Throughout the process, Christian was very patient, responsive and truly delivered on the end product. The best part is, I spent less than 1/2 of what I would have spent on the off the rack item. I was able to select custom fabrics for the interior, exterior and even had my name/initial/date of our wedding sewed (creatively done - not tacky) into some of the pieces (e.g. under collar of tux shirt, inside trousers, etc). I actually left Balani's looking forward to the next time I can return! I had recently moved to the Houston area for a short job with my company. My last two areas I had worked in were in rural areas and so before I headed to Texas I started looking up custom clothiers to extend my suits. This would be my first time buying a custom made suit so I wanted it to be a good experience. After reading the reviews online from multiple places. I decided on Balani's. Since my work schedule allows me to have very little days off I decided to set up an appointment. A gentleman by the name of Andrés Arevalo agreed to meet on a Sunday afternoon. Andrés was extremely helpful. He took my non-experience and causally started teaching me on not only the quality of their suits but also which event would be appropriate and which style to go for. The entire time I felt like I was talking with an old friend that was sharing his passion with me. I went in with the mind set of a traditional navy sport's jacket but I told him starting out that I wanted his professional opinion. Under his suggestion, I decided on a striped navy sport's jacket that I didn't feel was exactly my style at the moment but I ended up extremely pleased with my decision to branch out. While I was there to just acquire a blazer I walked away with an amazing suit that I had to have after I saw it. I am actually more pleased with the suit than the sport's jacket. Which reveals how well Andrés is at knowing what his client would like. After this enjoyable time branching out and extending my signature look. I had first hand experience with their amazing customer service that I had heard about. With my job taking me across the states I sometimes have problems with my debit card being flagged for fraud. Since the last job was 2 states over my card was flagged when I started making substantial purchases here in the heart of Texas. It took roughly a week to have it all straightened out and thankfully I had enough cash on hand to make do. Andrés was more than understanding even though I was deeply embarrassed, and furious that I couldn't spend my own money. He was dedicated with checking in daily with me instead of me having to check with Him. He even handled my strenuous work schedule in stride. I did not feel like a customer at Balani's. From the second I stepped foot into Balani for my first appointment for a custom wedding suit I was blown away by their customer service, knowledge, and options. I came to Balani on recommendation and was not disappointed in any way shape or form. Corrie is such an incredible asset to Balani and she made every step of the custom suit process painless, informative and just plain fun. Corrie spent an afternoon with us explaining pros and cons to every option and made sure to cater to the exact look I was pursuing. I really enjoyed my experience with Sauviz "Sway" Tabai at Balani Custom Clothiers and would have not have gotten a suit if it were not for him. I had not really considered getting a custom suit before because I had always been satisfied with Suit Supply's stock in getting me what I needed. "Sway" however, changed all of that. With his charismatic attitude to his hardworking bravado I was willing to hear him out and inquire about what Balani had to offer after we met at a The Houston Club downtown. He gave me a long list of options and gave me a suit to remember for a long time. Not only did I enjoy my suit but he made the whole process an in-depth experience. I heard that he was let go and that is a disappointment as I was wanting to use his services again in the future. Let's start by clearly defining what a real custom suit is. Rather, what it's not: it's not a suit off the rack at Dillard's and it's not even an expertly-tailored nice suit off the rack that you paid too much money for. A custom suit is something made from scratch and custom crafted to measurements taken by a seasoned professional. That said, I've had custom, I've had quality tailored suits and I've had crap. Balani has been my best experience so far...both in going to their Houston showroom to my final fitting, it's been a perfect experience. Don't go in thinking you'll be spending a few $100 bucks. Higher quality English or Italian custom suiting typically starts around $1200, although you'll find a few marginally cheaper options for slightly less if you're not as picky as I am. Regardless, if you're needing to look really sharp around people who know the differences in quality vs run-of-the-mill, this is the place to hit up in Houston. I'm a very happy client and plan on adding more suits as my budget allows. Final note...did you know that you can ask your cleaners to "steam press" vs dry clean your suits? I was first measured by the Vice President himself, Christian. And Adam helped out throughout the process. Adam served as my main point of contact as well as an adviser to what he believed what I would really enjoy. First they got my measurements, and followed up with me 8 weeks later. Today, I met up with Adam at a convenient location to my choosing, and checked out the suits. I'm a special case because I'm currently getting back into shape and still have about 15 pounds more to shred before my "fighting weight". He was kind enough to allow a tailoring now to help me enjoy my suits for the time being; and then allow me to get it re-tailored when I get into my fighting weight. My suits look great now, but it's that extra few inches of custom fitting that turns the experience from wanting to wear it every so often to wanting to wear it to practically every occasion. Be careful...once you get a custom shirt from Balani, you'll probably get addicted to filling your closet with them. First of all, Adam Leibold is a fantastic guide into the world of bespoke clothing. Adam certainly knows his stuff, and he constantly considered my complexion, style preferences, and price requirements when making his suggestions. I really appreciated the guidance, and I never felt pressured. Plus, Adam is just a fun guy to talk to! Secondly, custom shirts from Balani are awesome! I was originally a little skeptical of the value of a custom shirt going in, but compared to the shirts I typically buy from Macy's or JCPenney's, the Balani shirts are way more comfortable and durable. It's clear that these shirts will last a while. Also, Balani provides free alterations to the shirts for a full year after purchasing. I've been very happy with the shirts that I've gotten so far, and I've already got an order for some custom pants coming in soon. I would like to start with saying this was my first experience with custom clothing. I truly had no idea what to expect when I arrived but from the moment you walk into the door you know it will be an adventure. My custom clothier was Adam Leibold. This man was dressed the way I wanted to be dressed. I knew right then that he would take great care of me. After asking me what I liked, didn't like, what my style was, what I wanted to achieve...he got to work. His knowledge of the different fabrics, stitching, fit, feel was remarkable. Honestly, it seemed like work at first for me but then I remembered that it's his passion and that's evident, so I let him do what he does best. We worked very well together and he made suggestions that were what I was looking for, but didn't know how to express. I have no idea how many measurements he took but I knew without a doubt that this was going to be one-of-a-kind, just for me. We finished up and Adam said he would keep me posted on the progress and when the suit would be ready. We attended an event at Balani and Adam told me the suit had just arrived that day. He showed it to me and I was blown away. It was more than I expected! We arranged a final fitting, which was today. There's something about wearing a nice suit that makes a man feel great, confident and accomplished. Those feelings were amplified today when I tried on my custom Balani suit. WOW! There were only 2 minor adjustments that needed to be made, all of which will be taken care of within 24 hours and I can pick up my first custom suit tomorrow. I can't tell you how many times I've heard "i'm sorry". 6 weeks is too long but, 5 months is completely ridiculous. I would never recommend this store. The clothing is made by Chinese sweat shops and the quality of the tailoring is terrible. I've actually had two pair of pants rip at the seems while at client presentations. That is embarrassing and intolerable. I literally have clothing that was ordered 5 months ago that is not in yet. The cloth is nice but, I can get that exact same cloth anywhere ... and I will from now on. I'm never ordering from these guys again ... and I suggest you not waste your time. Setting my review at two stars so the algorithms quit hiding my review. If zero stars was an available rating, I would of award it to Balani. I hope this review serves as a catalyst for others to come out about their experiences but it baffles my mind on how this place has a five star rating. Let me preface this review by saying three things: -The rep that helped me most of the way was Adam, and I would not recommend him to anyone. -Secondly, I placed three separate orders at Balani: three orders and one remake because my first order was garbage. All orders I placed were standard with nothing special that would of warranted horrendous errors. -Lastly, I should of taken the advice of online reviews I read about custom clothing establishments, and I URGE everyone to do the same. Everything those reviews warned me about ended up happening to me and needless to say, I will never be back to Balani nor any other "custom" or "Made-to-Measure" establishment. In seven months, I spent about $5,000 for three suits, a sport coat and three shirts. Nothing came in correctly. Here is what I had to go through: 1) My first order was for a gray herringbone three piece using Holland & Sherry fabric. the fit was an absolute joke. The sleeves and jacket were too long, and the pants were so large I could take them off without un-buttoning. This suit went back to Balani SIX TIMES for alterations before a remake was authorized. The pants were so bad the back seam formed a V shape and I couldn't loop a belt through the loops. I went to a wedding after the second alteration and people were asking me why the suit fit so terribly. Ultimately, I had to fight with these guys for two weeks in order to authorize a remake because everything was unwearable. 2) After #1, Balani offered me 50% off of my next order. I ended up placing an order for a navy blue suit with Dormeuil Exel fabric. When this came in, there were problems again. The vest was way too large and went in for alterations twice. At this point, I had enough and ended up taking the vest to an alteration shop. The tailor looked at me in disbelief like I was an idiot because it fit so terribly. There were other alterations on the suit itself but I cannot recall at this time. 3) After #2, these guy again offered me half off a sport coat + my remake for #1. What is absolutely incredible to me is the lack of communication. I waited almost FOUR MONTHS for this order to come in without an update from anyone until the VP took over my order from Adam. When everything came in, the vest was way too large and the jacket sleeves had to be trimmed. As I stated above, be careful and I want everyone to understand a few things: 1) If I could go back in time, I would go for an online retailer like Indochino. I should taken the advice of what I read online about "custom" because these guys do not manufacture garments in house. Everything you order goes to a factory in places like China, Hong Kong or Taiwan. Bear that in mind. 2) If you do decide to go in to a custom clothier or Made-to-measure shop like Balani or Tom James, make sure you understand what proper fit is. We as consumers are at a severe disadvantage in this arena because we don't have a reference point to compare to. If your outfit isn't right, it must be fixed or DON'T PAY FOR IT AND ASK FOR A REMAKE. For the price you are paying, getting to this point is perplexing in itself. OK OK, I am late with this review...I know. Now sit back and understand something before I go on my review soap-box on this one: I am a custom clothes junky. I think clothes are like seafood; good seafood is not cheap and cheap seafood is not good. I have ordered custom clothes all over the world. England. Australia. Singapore, Thailand, China..I even have a guy that does custom shoes for me. I dress conservatively but with flair. My point is that I KNOW custom clothes well. A good clothier is worth his weight in gold. He equips you for the world and fits your lifestyle by finding clothes for all the things you do, he finds a place for all your stuff. He is the guy that secretly puts the things into your clothes that make you feel like a million bucks. He instills confidence in you and makes you LOOK like a million bucks too. Your clothier is a powerful weapon in your battle for success. I expect a clothier to bring to me a sense of style that fits my demeanor, one who pushes me to consider new items/colors/styles but doesn't push so hard that I get over the edge and regret my purchase. I expect great fabrics. I expect great measuring and tailoring so my stuff fits like...like, well, it's made for me. I expect him to make the most out of my purchases so I get the most versatile wardrobe. Now let me tell you about my experience at Balani... Balani is by appointment only. I first met Adam at the shop and we sat down over a beer to discuss what I'm looking for. I wanted to try Balani out for an initial run to see what they can do. A suit, a sports coat, some pants, some shirts. Nothing crazy...ok, we discuss. Adam knows the line very well and immediately begins showing samples, pictures and fabrics. The fabric selection is quite good, much much better than I expected. As good as the best shops in London. His ideas are solid. In fact, he's got tons of ideas. We settle on the sports coat pretty quickly. The shirts will be basic solids across a range of colors...all the standard things to select when it comes to features. Pants - casual and ones to match the sports coat...done. Now on to the suit...and here's where it gets even better. The options they can provide on a suit are considerable and more than you would traditionally expect. Adam showed me some ideas...initially, I thought some were quirky, but the more I looked at them, the better I liked them. OK, we decide. Meanwhile, chatting and another beer or two. The process is easy and comfortable; I feel like I've gone through the entire collection by the time we're done. We place the order and wait for the next step: the fitting. It takes a while for things to come in, but that is quite normal with custom clothing. OK, ready for the first fitting. With most clothiers the first fitting is kind of rough and you expect a good bit of additional tailoring to be done. Well, not here...I was shocked at the high-quality first time fit of these garments. Outstanding. I'm happy with some of the pieces right now, but oh, no between Adam and the tailor, we're going to make it perfect. They tweak this and that, going way beyond what I would have expected. An incredibly good first fit, but they want it better. I take the shirts home when their ready. Awesome. Cuffs are perfect, length is perfect. Collar perfect and just as I expected regarding spread. Fabrics are, well...just feel great and look very high end. These are probably the best shirts I've ever ordered. Second fitting on the suit, coat and pants. Bam, on the money, looking great and feeling great. Pick out some cufflinks and pocket squares, some shoes and off I go feeling like I just suited up with the most perfect clothes in the world. The tailoring is spectacular. I have gone over every inch of these clothes: no flaws, no missed stitches, perfect fit. In summary, excellent in all categories of expectation. Whether it is your first time doing custom or you are a veteran, this is a great place to get clothes. You will get creative ideas, make connections, feel good and look good. Not cheap, but you shouldn't expect it to be. The most outstanding things to me were the way Adam understood what I was looking for but still gave me creative ideas, the way the tape man (Adam) and the tailor worked so well together, and the quality of the fabrics. My experience at Balani was a success as well as a disappointment. My father and I had a wonderful experience with Corrie. She took great care of my father. Very professional, attentive and responsive. The suit came out perfectly. My fiancé however did not have the best experience at Balani's. Our first meeting with Christian was great. He measured my fiancé for his custom fitted suits and shirts. Looked like he knew what he was doing. When the suits and shirts arrived it was loose and baggy. He got remeasured by an employee and when the suits and shirts arrived again they were still loose and baggy. Mind you we do not live close to Balani's. We drove multiple times to get the suits adjusted. Every time my fiancé came to get his suits adjusted they would make him feel like he was being extremely picky. If you're paying about 2k a suit (and we bought 2 suits for my fiancé) wouldn't you want it fitted to your body? I had to drop off pants from H&M to get better measurements. Christian told my fiancé that he should of brought the pants sooner. Really?! You customize suits and you need a pattern to get the correct measurements? Every time we asked Christian and his employees what else needs to get fixed they would say it looked great but in reality the suits didn't look great. It didn't look like custom suits but rather suits off the rack. After about 6 times going back and forth...finally the suits are fitted to my fiancé liking. We never got a "sorry"... no apologies for for their many mistakes. I take that back maybe just once. Very disappointed. Would I recommend Balani?? I'm not sure. read more

I found Balani Custom from a google search. After calling around to some other custom stores, it seemed pretty obvious over the phone that Christian would offer the most personalized service. Initially I was going to order a custom tailored shirt, but after just a few minutes of meeting Christian at his office I could see how much pride he takes in his products. So I started looking into suits. I told him the style I was going for, I sensed he really got it. He helped me pick a great fabric and I got measured up for a custom suit. He had some really creative ideas for interior linings pocket square etc. I have to say.... I didn't really know what to expect. I guess I just figured there would be SOMETHING that I didn't like about the suit. I'm 6'4, athletic. I've just never had good luck with suits.... I was blown away. First off it fit. It's sharp, and stylish with custom linings and small details that makes the suit really pop. Honestly I hadn't really considered the importance of the interior fabrics, pocket square options at all. I just sort of went along with some of Christian's suggestions. But I will say that these are really what give a suit the overall style and character. I recommend adding as many of these custom details as you can, even if you don't generally like adding flare. That's what's great about a custom suit- you can personalize it as much as you like.
