Fiancé and I walked in to get clothes for our wedding reception. We asked the lady for specific colors and showed her pictures of what were looking for. She got them right away and let us try it on. One thing I really appreciated was that, I'd wanted a dupatta that is different from the sets they had. The sweet lady said "No problem" and let me try different dupattas on. Then Rani came and helped with everything as well. Fiancé got his sherwani and I got my lehenga. Prices are in range for that kind of rich stitching. I did not meet Rani at the boutique, however I met this other lady at the counter. I was recommended this boutique from my friend Alisha who bought her engagement lehenga from here. She said many great things about this boutique so I came in with very high hopes. I saw a lot of people complaining about Rani's being overpriced however, I found the prices fair and reasonable for the most part. I understand businesses have to make a living too and obviously people complain about anything these days. I was satisfied with the designs all of the clothes were very nice. However I am not sure if they handmake the dresses or order them from India. I needed a lehenga for Alisha's wedding and they had a wide variety of colors. I needed one in creamish color and the blouse was very small. I asked lady on the counter if they can alter it but she said no that they cannot because the design will get ruined. However, she said that they can have a similar design one in a different size ready for me after few weeks. (This happened couple months ago). Anyways, I was happy and after a few weeks there was a different lady there and she said that there was no cream colored blouse ready nor did anyone order it. I had to go next door and the other store did not have good designs. Overall, her wedding is in two weeks and I found a couple of different designs of blouses in cream. Went in for the first time to check the store out based on reviews and needing to buy an outfit for a wedding. Came in and saw a bunch of variety, and an immediately helpful two ladies. Personally I'm not a fan of shopping and trying on various outfits and styles. Have a size, like a color, pick a few items, in and out. The ladies helping me sensed this and the experience was super efficient, but they also took the time to understand what the event was for, what my wife and kid are wearing, what could match, etc. One of the ladies was Rani, the owner. Nothing short of wonderful. I walked in, overwhelmed with options. I wasted no time in asking for help, and the rest was history. These ladies are just wonderful and helped me from beginning to end. They could look at me and know my size, pulled options for me so I didn't even have to search, and let me take my time. I came here to get a blouse that would go with several of my sarees. I was looking for something either multicolored, golden or red. They had a decent collection of readymade blouses, which, if required, they alter it with no additional cost. I couldn't really find a gorgeous multicolored blouse that I really wanted. However, I did find a nice golden blouse with halter neck. I liked the style of the blouse. Although, I am not very happy with the kind of pale gold color. I like my blouse to be bright. Being Indian, I'm very particular about my blouse fitting. Although their tailor did alter it to fit me, its not one of the great fitting blouses. I guess I'm still happy that I have access to sarees, suits, blouses, jewelries etc. Their customer service was great. We were greeted and assisted in a timely manner even when there were few other customers in the store. I felt like they take care of each of their customers. Their tailor was present in the store. She took my measurements and said she can alter it within 30 mins. I had to go somewhere so I picked up the following day. Overall very good service. Rani was the most helpful person I've ever met, and I'm in the retail business. My friend Marianne and I had purchased outfits each from India a month before our friend's wedding in Houston. Well, we ordered items that were not cut correctly, or cut at all and we had one day to figure this out as the items showed up the day we were leaving San Francisco. Panic set in, and luckily we spoke to Dolly from our friend Meena's Mendhi party. Told us to go to Rani the next morning and she would set things right. We went there at 10:30 am and were done with perfect outfits by 10:50am. Rani asked to see the items from India and saw immediately we could not use them. She said no problem she will find us something. Asked us outright how much we'd like to spend, so much easier and didn't put any pressure on us at all. As soon as I said $180 she sent me to look at a large assortment of salwar kameez and took Marianne over to her section. Told us which colours looked good on us and which didn't. We chose a few colours and tried them on, Marianne had hers the first try on and what a colour! I tried on one, it was okay but the magenta colour and material of the next one was the winner. No sewing to be done, they fit perfectly. We were elated!! Rani took us over to find some jewelry, again absolutely no pressure in buying or trying items on. Such patience! She told us protocol on jewelry for the wedding and colours that complimented our outfits. I've never had a better shopping experience in my life! We had such comfortable outfits and the colours we were so happy with, we danced the night away. Our husbands were so happy with our purchases and had many compliments from guests at the wedding, including Meena who loved us dressing in traditional Indian clothing. Thank you a million times over Rani. You saved us so much money and worry, we literally got back in the car, looking at each other saying "Did we really just get that done in 20 minutes?" I do not appreciate that Rani Boutique sold me an expensive outfit that is unable to be dry-cleaned. This was a beautiful silk top with tons of tiny gold beads. After I wore it & brought it to my dry cleaner, the cleaners called me & said the gold beads were merely glued on, not sewn on, so their solvents would cause the beads to fall off. I called Rani several times (spoke to Nad) to see how to clean it so I could wear it again. She kept trying to get me off the phone, & said I could not speak to the owner, but promised the owner would call me. It has been 2 weeks; nobody ever called me back. I have wasted close to $300 on an outfit that could only be worn one time! read more

I came here to find a saree for a traditional south Indian wedding in Chennai with less than a week before my departure date. The woman who helped me knew exactly what type of formal saree to get for a traditional Chennai wedding, and what kurtie to get for the other festivities during the wedding. I felt very comfortable and like my outfits matched well with what was being worn by the other wedding guests. Alterations were done in just a couple of days and everything fit wonderfully. She even pre stitched the saree so that it could put on very easily with minimal extra folding. Definitely helped a lot! She also added beautiful sleeves to the blouse that matched the trim of the saree. Everything seemed to be reasonably priced and did not seem to be much different from other stores in Houston or even from the online websites from stores in Chennai. I bought a Kancheepuram saree, blouse, petticoat, beaded kurtie, leggings, scarf, bangles, earrings, and rapid alterations for what I consider to be a very fair price. This is my favorite boutique in the Hillcroft area! The months before my wedding I was scrambling looking for sarees and salwaar kameezes for relatives, and stumbled upon this little store. Since then, this is my go-to place whenever I need jewelry or a new Indian outfit. The boutique is small but its selection is beautiful- much better than most of the other saree boutiques in Hillcroft. Items are priced about on par with other stores in Hillcroft, however there are frequently items on sale which makes the overall price a good deal for the exceptional quality of the clothing. I always get lots of compliments whenever I wear a saree from here! The ladies who work here are always welcoming and have the best customer service! They have tailoring available in store, and they have gotten me out of more than a few binds, when I needed something tailored last minute. Of all the sari boutiques, in all the towns, in all the world, I walk into Rani's. It's unbelievable how helpful and sweet Rani is. I kept hearing horror stories of people getting ripped off and bullied into buying expensive saris along with accessories, and to be honest, I dreaded it. I went to NOLA for an Indian wedding this past weekend, and I literally waited last minute Thursday afternoon to go get a sari. I was actually on my way to another boutique (courtesy of yelp), but I randomly stopped and walked into her small shop. As a non-Indian, I was lost and hopeless, but she showed me the sari rack, and luckily, there were already price tags on there, because it calmed my fears of being mercilessly ripped off as an outsider. I got this beautiful burnt orange (GO LONGHORNS!) simple sari with hand-beaded pearls and sequence on the bottom. It was absolutely beautiful! All for about a hundred bucks! She taught me how to put it on and even safety pinned the pleats for me. It was pretty much full service. This is great and all, but you will NOT believe how many compliments I've gotten from so many COMPLETE STRANGERS in my life! They actually went out of their way to get to me and say things like, "That sari is beautiful on you! You look like you've been wearing a sari your entire life!" I have to be honest. I felt pretty damn cool. This is all courtesy to Rani. There is another Indian wedding this coming July, and would I be caught dead in the same sari? NO!
