Wow. I love shopping at Silk India. This store is right below Biryani Factory at The Plaza @ Hillcroft and Harwin, corner of Hillcroft and Harwin. I came here with a group of women who were learning how to tie sari. While waiting, I look for men's kurta. I'm due to add another kurta to my wardrobe. I think I want something fancier than my current collection. I looked for something bright with blings (jewelry and beads). I tried a couple of them made of rayon but they had plain front. That would require some pearl necklace to outfit correctly. I can't think of any occasion to dress up with jewelry and kurta. So, I decided on an all-in-one kurta. The lady was so helpful. She picked out a few pastel-colored kurtas and a bright orange one in size 46. Not sure how she knew I like orange. I skipped pastels because they look like pajamas. They offer alteration service on site. They charge $10 to shorten the sleeves $10. The kurta I picked up was $79. I can't wait to show off at a social event this summer. read more

Worst place ever to get any saree tailored. They were so unprofessional. I'm a bride and had all my 5 bridesmaids come there along with my saree to be tailored. They messed up all our sarees, did not give us what I asked for. My bridesmaids had to return numerous times as did I, for them to fix what they did not do right. Everyone's saree ended up different when they were supposed to be the same. My wedding is 10 days away and I'll have to use safety pins just to keep my saree on. I will not return to them as they are absolutely horrible. Do not go here.... read more

Silk India has the best collection of men's and women's outfits. We had purchased exactly what we were looking for. We purchased a kurta for our son in law. The clothes were wonderful and if we had any questions or queries, the staff went out of the way to help us . I also bought kurta gifts for my other family members. There's a $10 sale rack where I snagged a top that would have costed me $50+ at Roop Sari. The store is small and it isn't as high-end as other nearby shops, but again, it's super affordable! They accept credit cards, and the sales peeps are helpful. Downside is that they only have ONE mirror, so trying stuff on and sharing that small space with other ladies is a total pain. read more

This store has a wide selection of choices, but I was more so turned off from the lack of honesty from Dilip. He states his outfits are designer, and are Sabyasachi, Manish Malhotra, etc. which is VERY misleading; his outfits are knock offs from the designers, and he should not be marketing it as designer. I had drove in from Austin and scheduled multiple appointments with him to find my bridal outfit. Dilip was late to the first appointment, and requested to leave early for an emergency after a couple of hours. He did the same thing for my second visit to the store, when I had to come alter my outfit. I find that very rude and disgraceful, considering I made the drive to Austin just to visit the store. These are just a couple of examples of the lack of professionalism and fraudulent behaviors from Dilip. Although we had issues with Dilip, the seamstress was very kind and did a good job with the turnaround since I did come in from Austin. read more

My wife and daughter and I came in to browse. Dilip was extremely helpful, showing a LOT of different clothes to try on. Even I tried on a few of the men's fashions. In the end, we walked out of there with 2 dresses for my wife, and another 2 dresses and a sari for my daughter. And the prices are very reasonable. Purchased both Bridal and Groom attire from here. Dilip was helpful, honest, and worked with my budget. It's a lengthy process. Definitely, consider making an appointment vs showing up (especially on a weekend). If you have BIG bust bridesmaids on a mission for Lehenga's for the wedding day.....We are talking about 40+ bust for a blouse/Choli. Dilip said he could make it happen...Nevertheless, Dilip was offering a good deal on bridesmaids saree's. We did find a shop willing to do Plus Size Lehenga's :) The prices are reasonable. DO NOT SHOP HERE!!!!!! They are all fake and the lady tailor they have is absolutely terrible!!!!! I was at the store the end of MAY '14 and it is the end of July and I just now got my dress from them and it's still not done correctly!!! I spent over $1000 at their store in May and I needed tailoring done on my dress. I'm from Chicago they said they would have it done by the time I left. I went back to the store to find out that my dress was not completed that they would mail it to me. I kept calling to see when they would send it. They lied and said that my dress was sent back to them because the zip code was incorrect. Bullshit because I wrote my address down and I know where I live! So then he said I would get it in a few days. That didn't happen... Once I finally received it I was devastated! The tailor sewed the zipper inside the dress... The whole thing was uneven and incorrectly sewn! I couldn't even get into the dress because there was no zipper. I called the guy back that was handling everything (dilip) and he said well the tailor said u wanted it that way! Who in their right minds would say they want the zipper on the inside... NO ONE! He accused me of lying! And I texted him pictures of everything that was done incorrectly. I paid for shipping and shipped it back! I texted and called over and over and over again. He said oh it's done I sent it already. Lies after lies. I called the store a lady picked up and said that the dress was still at the store 2 weeks after him saying he already sent it! I kept calling they kept hanging up on me! Dilip said we've been very patient with you.... I'm excuse me you've been patient with me?!?!?! Hello I waited freaking months for my dress!!! What a joke this place is! He kept saying not to call back! I kept asking for a tracking number that no one provided! I asked to get the owners number and he gave me a number that just keeps ringing! I told him I needed it by a certain weekend for a wedding that I was going to and because I didn't get it in time I could not wear it! Now I'm going to have to take it to another tailor out here to fix everything that still was not done correctly! And I just called him and said he can't do anything about the owner not calling me and I told him that I'm not happy with the dress and he said file whatever reports you want or whatever you don't make any sense. So after him calling me a liar and him calling me stupid I decided to yelp the shit out of this place! DO NOT SHOP HERE!!!!! Great!! After going next door and getting the cold shoulder from Rani, I decided to check them out despite the few bad reviews. Dilip, the owner let me know they usually just go appointment only and he had one coming but would help me until they came. Well, they came but had other saris to buy to give away so they agreed to let him help me first. I found my dream bridal lengha! He kept bringing different outfits to show me despite knowing what colors I wanted just in case I tried one on that I HAD to have. Great customer service! They have no sari under 100.00 .even there discount rack was 100 and over. So the 10.00 rack don't exist. Unless there out to jack up price according to ur nationality. Needed a sari to attend a puja. Never bought one before, knew they could get very pricey. I was expecting to be hard-sold and made uncomfortable by people talking about me in Hindi right in front of me. NONE of this happened. I was impressed to learn that for the reasonable prices quoted to me, they included matching made-to-order blouses and pleating and waistband sewn-in . All this in about 2 hours. Due to my travel schedule I declined the blouse, but they made up one anyway that was ready when I returned to pick up my sari. I was quoted a price of 29.95 to have a custom blouse made and will be back to do that. I also think I will get a petticoat, but I digress. Although I am not Hindu, I do like to attend pujas and similar festival events. Now, I can do so in style while communicating my respect and adherence to proper temple attire. My fabric? My best guesstimate is that sari fabric runs about 5 yards. For 108 dollars, I got a beautiful red sari with sequins and embellishments throughout PLUS the tailored customizing I mentioned. I could NOT have gotten this very same fabric off the bolt for this price. The three ladies were very helpful but seemed to speak limited English, although I gather that they understood it pretty well. The owner was very accommodating and welcoming also. This place has floor to ceiling saris in every colorway imaginable. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful stuff. It would take days to see them all. If I ever need another sari that is color-specific (meaning my red one won't do), I will drive from wherever I am to Silk India. read more

My daughter and I were very excited at first, but later felt like we had been swindled. After purchase, owner recommended we could wear a tank top underneath sari for a wedding which is not traditional and can be offensive in Indian culture. Many other Indian women indicated that this would not be appropriate, and even appeared shocked at the suggestion. Ultimately, we paid $100 for each sari purchased. Waited a couple of hours for "special stitching" after being told we would only have to wait one hour. Because of this we did not get to attend the mehendi on time. The extra hour changed our plans. We were disappointed. Sadly, we later learned that other stores in the area include the most beautiful matching sari blouses as part of the entire outfit for the same exact price that we paid just for the sari. He wanted to charge $40 more to have it sewn for us. Unfortunately, we found ourselves having to stress about what we would wear under our saris. In the end, we decided not to pay an additional $40 each. That was too much money for a one night event. We even purchased a top for my husband to wear. The owner suggested jeans as bottoms. We were later informed that jeans with a short top would be acceptable, but not with a long top (which we purchased). He's a fast talker, and I guess you could say a good salesman. :/ Felt cheated out of our money and deceived. All we truly wanted was to respect the Indian culture without offending anyone, or embarrassing ourselves. :( read more

DON'T GET CLOTHING FROM HERE UNLESS YOU ARE A LOCAL!!! Went into to store to get sherwani and the guy took me to a different store. He promised to get me a size 40 sherwani delivered to my house in Dallas. Of course that promise was not kept on time. Sends me a unknown size since size tag was cut off sherwani top. The sherwani pants were size 42, which made me question the size of the sherwani top. When trying to give the guy a second change to correct the mistake, he has me get the sherwani back to him to get it altered "within 1 hour." Needless to say, that promise was not kept so i decided to just take it back and give it to someone i trust. Don't do business unless you are a local. Otherwise, this guy will dodge you as much as possible. read more

Really great selection of bridal attire and the owner is quite knowledgeable. Although this place requires appointment they are extremely accommodating. This place is not like most Indian clothing stores and was actually a very pleasant shopping experience. We are returning back to finish shopping for my wedding and the rest of the bridal party.
