I was told that it was an "institution" of the west side, usually full of blue hairs, with decent comfortable food. I would say that described my experience exactly. We were the only couple under 50 not with a group. Staff was friendly and did their job. The place clean, almost sterile. The food was of good quality albiet a little bland. First time visit, wasn't the best experience but However we can see why it is liked so well and will be back to give it another try. Multiple mistakes however the food was good. We had 2 orders of the Mahi tacos and asked for both sauces on the side. Food was delivered with the avocado sauce on top and a guarantee that they other sauce was indeed on the side. It was not, we found it on the bottom of the taco. The kids were hungry so despite the waitress offering to maybe take them back we kept the dishes and scrapped off what we could. Grilled pork chop - I asked before ordering if it was bone-in and was told it was not after the waitress went and check. Well there was a bone, small but however present which ruined my experience. I enjoyed the Brussel sprouts though they were not crispy and broccoli. My husband enjoyed his steak. It was a slow Sunday evening being that they were not busy however our waitress was not present though she did walk by a few times and glance over. Please don't waste your money on this establishment! The server was very nice and it has a real hometown feel but the food is not even as good as a Waffle House. We had 3 adults and one child. All 3 adults ordered the $28 filets, all medium. 2 were acceptable and the 3rd was not only rare but cold inside. After 3 attempts they could not prepare another steak medium temperature. My poor sister never did get to eat. The manager, Robbie, did not think it was appropriate to remove the steak from our bill. They were going to try and prepare another one and make us wait another 20 minutes with a fussy child. Seriously, I would give zero stars if I could. My wife and I had never been to Nick & Tom's; in fact, we didn't know anyone who had been there. So last night we decided we'd try it out. From what I gathered from old photographs, the place has been there for a long time. Back when the West Side was the boondocks with only gravel roads and such. Taking a look around at our fellow patrons showed that many of them probably remember that time. We were the youngest there by 25 years easy. The decor is nice. Lots of dark wood. It feels very comfortable. The dining area was well separated from the bar; so much so that I didn't even notice the bar till halfway through dinner, and it was maybe 6 feet from our table! (Maybe I'm just not observant) The menu was very eclectic. They had seafood, steaks, pasta, cincinnati-style chili, sandwiches. Ii felt like they were just putting a little bit of everything out there and seeing what sticks. I'm always a little leery of places that do that, because I figure they aren't concentrating on making any one type of food. Therefore everything will be just OK instead of great. That's basically how it ended up being. My food was good, but nothing spectacular. My wife also enjoyed her meal, but again it wasn't amazing. She did enjoy her dessert, lightly fried cheesecake-filled tortillas (Xango is what they call it). Overall I think it was a little over-priced, but an enjoyable atmosphere. Today I had Nick and Tom's for the first time and I was blown away with my experience! Our server, Erin, was the best! She gave great recommendations and was patient with us when choosing our meals. She made sure to check in with us to make sure our drinks were full and everything was okay with our food. She even recommended their brownie dessert and it was absolutely delicious! Have any of you ever seen Parks and Rec? Well last night I found my JJ's on the westside. No waffles, but the feeling of the restaurant is very warm and welcoming. I ordered the shrimp fettuccine alfredo with a glass of red wine. The shrimp was cooked well and the sauce was rich and creamy, as it should be. It was the perfect way to wind down after a long day at work. The restaurant is family friendly, so if that's not your thing, go after 8pm. read more

Based on the recommendation of a coworker, my wife and decided to give Nick and Tom's a try on a recent Saturday afternoon. The service is extremely friendly and the food is pretty solid, ranging from simple bar food and sandwiches to more pricier steaks and chops. We had mostly bar food on our visit, fried appetizers and a burger and fish sandwich, but all of them were pretty good. Not the best burger, I've ever had, as the bartender implied, but it was pretty good - 1/2 pound of angus with pepperjack and jalapenos - and the pretzel roll it was on was excellent. Overall, an enjoyable place to get solid food on the Westside, but I'd probably stick to the bar area. The restaurant could use a makeover to make it look less like a hotel joint and it can get pretty crowded with the blue hairs and families with small kids late in the afternoon. No beer on draught, but the place does have happy hour every day of the week, 2-6 M-F and 1-5 Sat/Sun. read more

I went here on a Saturday night and there was a fairly decent crowd but no wait. Service was acceptable. I had the Shrimp Mediterranean Pasta and it wasn't bad. There wasn't a lot of shrimp but that's understandable with how much prices have gone up recently. It was cold, except for the shrimp but I think that's the way it was supposed to be served. It had a decent amount of feta on it and I liked the taste of it. My date had the bruschetta and I didn't really care for it but she said it was okay. The toppings on it were actually quite generous. The tab came to $35 for both of our dinners and two beers plus tip so it's pretty reasonable. Overall, I'd say the place isn't bad but it's not that good either. I didn't like the noise level as it was a bit loud for my liking so if you're not a fan of noisy environments then I'd suggest going on a weekday or during off-hours. The only real reason to go here is if you'd rather give your money to the locals instead of a big greedy corporate chain. read more

I've eaten here a total of 5 times now and yesterday was my very last. it's been about 7 years since I've eaten at Nick and Toms. the last time I ate here i didn't have a good experience. my wife talked me into trying it again because she's never been there before. well.. here it is past 4AM and we both are still up dealing with stomach issues. I had the short ribs with mashed potatoes and asparagus. the short ribs were so dry you had to chase it with water. the potatoes here are completely flavorless and the asparagus look as if they've seen better days. my wife had some kind of chicken dish with the same flavorless potatoes. the chicken was so oily you could of soaked up about 5 napkins with how much there was. neither one of us finished our meals. we took them home.. well truth be told they never made it home they ended up in the trash out front of Kohl's. only thing good here was the waitress. read more

Ordered their dinner special for the day, scallops on top of ravioli and lobster cream sauce. Also, the stuffed mushrooms appetizer. The appetizer was good (7 out of 10). My main entree was a bit disappointing, the scallops were blackened on one side, taste good but was crunchy and felt like I was eating hard sand particles every time I had a piece of the blackened side. The decor is old and dated and an older crowd dines here a lot. But when our food came, it was nothing short of heaven! My wife got the New York strip steak and crispy brussel sprouts. I chose the Mediterranean pasta. We both thought the food was unbelievable! They've recently updated their menu with some more exciting choices such as Sweet Thai Pork Belly as the waitress pointed out on the appetizers menu. And they also have Poutine - which may or may not have always been there but is a dish that is gaining in popularity now so I noticed it - made with actual cheese curds, yum! Though I did not try any of the appetizers, I felt these 2 important to note in my review. I had a glass of red wine which wasn't bad and a great price. They have plenty of decent beer options like Mad Tree, Rhinegesit and Mt. Caramel. For dinner I ordered the Mahi tacos and was very pleased with them. I liked the corn slaw and the amount of fish on each taco was generous. The order came with 3 which was plenty of food. I tried a bite of the fish and chips which I found to be way too large of a portion and too greasy, though my fiancé, who was the one who ordered it found it delicious, until he realized he was so full he couldn't move. I loved the fries it came with! I also had a bite of the roasted chicken which was just ok, my sister (a very picky eater) loved it, ate every bite (its 1/2 of a chicken bone in!). I didn't try it, but my dad said the award winning Mediterranean pasta was not great. Grandma had the Sonoma Chicken and actually sent it back - steer clear, sooo dry and bland. Those who had red meat dishes reported to be entirely happy with their orders and licked their plates clean (1 filet and 1 short rib). Overall very friendly service at a local west side staple. Yes the crowd is mostly older people and my grandma did note she frequents here often for lunch with her ladies, but its one of the nicer restaurants on the west side so sometimes its just the right place for the occasion! read more

Been several times and was a hit and miss. My husband and I ordered take out for Chicken Chili. He and I both started feeling yet I got the full blown out food poisoning. Was up since 2am puking and diarrhea (sorry if TMI) and have continued entire day today camping out in my bathroom. Finally 13 hours of this continuous puking and diarrhea I finally so far have stopped however stomach still feels cramped. Not out of the woods yet. Thankfully my sweet husband left work early to come home with huge pack of gatorade, crackers, medicine etc to take care of me as I was getting severely dehydrated. Food was mediocre. Although it was served hot, it was bland. I got buffalo chicken tenders with the buffalo sauce on the side. The chicken was cut thin and breaded and fried. It was plain, didn't have any flavor at all. If it wasn't for the buffalo sauce, they wouldn't have been eaten. I got a side of whip mashed potatoes which like the chicken was bland. I even had my husband try each to make sure it wasn't just me. He got the flying cow and was mislead by the description. It reads that it's a rib sandwich but instead it was more like shredded pork. The cheese made it extra greasy. He also got fries, asparagus, and crispy Brussel sprouts. The asparagus and Brussel sprouts were bland. The only thing that had any flavor was the fries. We used to come here all the time for the Ribs. I ordered fish and chips and they were very poor quality. Tasted so so but totally not worth the $12. Maybe $5.99 for the size. I had not been to this restaurant in years, but was pleasantly surprised. Their menu had a wide range of great options. I had the spicy chicken chili burrito and my husband had the chicken pot pie. Both were delicious. We each had a house salad, but were not huge fans of the croutons. Those were very crumbly so kind of hard to eat around. We were trying to avoid those since the salad was supposed to be the healthy part of our meal. :) Service was a little slow, but our server was very friendly. We will definitely go back! read more

The service was amazing.. the food was not. I got a cheese burger for my daughter that looked like a hockey puck it was so burnt. My mom got the salmon and it was also way over cooked. I order a new York strip steak medium and it was just as black as my daughters Burger and do extremely tough with no flavor.
