Came here for a Friday dinner. The atmosphere is very nice, and the service is friendly. The bread service is very good -- the bread is warm, crusty on the outside and soft on the inside; the butter comes swimming in olive oil, which gives the butter a lovely flavor. For appetizer, I highly recommend the beet risotto. For dessert, the Fuji apple tart is very good. I got the ravioli niçoise for my main, and that was just mediocre. read more

I had a couple of questions about the menu, and our server, a nice young man with brown hair, was very well-informed. Lunch was delicious. My mother had the Soupe au Pistou, and pronounced it perfect for a wet and nasty day. It's a charming place for French food. What a gem of a place! We were there for brunch on a very rainy Sunday in September, to catch up with a friend. They seated us in an elevated split/level area where there are just a few tables, and a nice overview of the restaurant. A great location to take in the warm ambiance on a rainy Sunday! I had to start with a sparkling rose' for brunch as we waited for our friend. Our server was so lovely and charming! She recommended the Omelettes (even though she typically isn't an omelette eater) so I ordered the Avocado Omelette with cheddar cheese, which came with a petite salad, potatoes, and toast. This was so delicious! Yum! We wanted to stay all day, but they were getting busy. I would definitely recommend Nice Matin, and hope I can come back some day. read more

The only reason I'm taking a star away is because I had to order 3 different times due to items selling out, and the server didn't preface me of the items that were out until *after* I perused the menu and was ready to order. Their menu for RW2022 was stellar. They offered duck in the appetizer! I was delighted with my selection. I had to reorder my entree due to them selling out of Branzino, however my pasta was tasty. When dessert came, they sold out of the Peach Melba! (You could tell that I was a bit annoyed at this point) however the chocolate soufflé was the perfect amount of richness. Cocktails were superb. A rare restaurant that gets better with age. A lovely corner artfully decorated with great COVID partitions (the French are great at this) delicious French fare. Jennifer Garner once worked here and I'm back after the last Restaurant Week lunch and it was perfect! There's an amazing wine program very thoughtfully curated. Ate and drank: Cote de Rhone $12 Faroe island salmon with lentos and frisée and Dijon mustard aioli Ratatouille side Chocolate soufflé Total: The wine a good value was excellent. Cute little French bistro in the upper West side. We had a large party and was seated in 10 minutes. The noise level in the restaurant was deafening. I couldn't hear anything my guests were saying and I feel like I was screaming. Ambiance-3 stars. Restaurant week dinner with a friend and had reservations. Got sat right away and it was a tight squeeze to the table. They had movable plastic dividers to still allow maximum capacity but it was very tight. It took a while to get an order in for drinks. We had to flag someone down after the table next to us that was sat after us had received drinks and we hadn't been greeted. Once we got drinks in we looked at the regular menu and restaurant week menu and decided to do restaurant week. We shared all so we got to try various items. Apps - Mediterranean Fried Artichokes - yummy.....Provencal Hummus - super yummy too. Both good choices. Entree's - Faroe Island Salmon - nice crispy skin and seasoned wonderfully. Summer Truffle - Ricotta Ravioli - had me at Truffle, one of my favorite flavors in any dish. Don't recall the dessert and it was light and very tasty. Didn't leave us disappointed. The one unusual item was going to the ladies' room. They are interchangeable restrooms down a small hall with a sink at the end. The location isn't the best as there is no space for a line, so be aware. For a second I thought people weren't washing their hands as they'd come out and not use the sink at the end of the area. It was a great escape from the flooding outside! The indoor was so calming and bright. I really enjoyed talking to the waitress and getting her recommendations. The egg Benedict was so good but the last few bites tasted a little salty. The ice tea was so good but you have to add your own sugar which they have on the table. The ambiance is lovely but the food is awful. It's the type of place that had a great run many years ago but let their standards slide and no longer puts forth any effort. Now they just rely on the ambiance and some outdated critical acclaim. I'm disappointed, as I really wanted to like it here. Look at this french toast. It would be so easy to do a nice job with this dish yet they failed miserably. Two basic pieces of bread served completely undercooked and soggy. We sent it back to be cooked more and this is what we ended up with, and they didn't even offer an apology or to take it off the bill. We also had an equally unimpressive fruit parfait for my toddler, which I had to pick spoiled berries out of. Even the eggs Benedict overlooked and lacking flavor. Unless you just want a coffee and some average pastries to enjoy the ambiance, skip it! You can find much better French food in the neighborhood and throughout NYC. read more

The restaurant is very clean and spacious with nice bright color and comfortable padded chairs and so on. I suppose it's reminiscent of Nice but not over the top and kitschy or anything. Definitely seems to try and draw in the uptown elite... instead they got us. For some reason, even when the place was mostly empty, we were placed by the service area towards the back. We have kids and I think we are sometimes stereotyped a bit so maybe they were trying to spare the few other patrons from our very well behaved children or something. We also noticed an older group with a walker being placed in a booth behind us and that seemed boarder line cruel given how hard it was for them to transition to the seating. I won't ding them much for our placement but that was not cool in my opinion. I ordered the Chicken Paillard and I have to say that the presentation was really great but tasted/smelled boiled even though it was clearly finished in a pan or broiler. The other components were also problematic; collards were super earthy, the potatoes were dry. Everything needed more salt and there was no table salt which I get, but then you must get it right. I also tasted the Steak Frites and was not impressed. It was the correct color for medium rare but extremely rubbery making me question the quality of ingredients. I suspected something was wrong when it hit the table because the sauce looked very viscous and had an unusually brown color. After walking the area further north, I saw a lot of places that were more promising and likely less expensive so I would recommend finding something up there. read more

Great spot for inexpensive French food and drinks! We made a last minute reservation and got seated in a booth. We started with the escargot, which was great and not over cooked. I wish it had come with more bread, as the soft escargot tasted better when contrasted with the crispy bread. There were also free rolls, which were slightly tough, and the option of butter or olive oil. For my main, I got the lamb shank- absolutely delicious and fall-off-the-bone tender. At its price point, there was SO much lamb that I could've taken it home. Not all dishes come with generous portion sizes, though- a friend got the pasta with seafood and it came with very few mussels and shrimp. We finished with a chocolate soufflé, which was deliciously thick and dark-chocolatey. It came with a little pot of sweet cream to drizzle over the dessert. A note about seating- some booths are more private and seat only one party while others are made up of two tables really close together- definitely specify what you want if you have a strong preference for a fancier/more intimate atmosphere. read more

Charming neighborhood establishment with great service and delicious food! The staff knows the menu inside and out and always recommends great dietary accommodations, including gluten free bread! The best thing I've tried here is the smoked salmon potato pancake on the brunch menu - delicious! We came here for thanksgiving and not only did it feel homey and welcoming, it was the best Turkey we've ever had. It's even fun just to sit at the bar on a random weeknight. Just an amazing food! Grilled octopus was out of this world. Radicchio salad was so delicious and large that it could be a meal of its own. Our server, Vanessa was very professional and pleasant. Now for some improvements...The hostesses at the door can be trained differently or replaced altogether...these young ladies at the door do not seem to be happy to see you coming into the restaurant. It's not like being in Nice-but it's much easier to get to and more importantly-each visit has proven to be enjoyable, I - for one- am partial to good basic French brasserie food: omelettes, quiche, mussels with pommel frites and this place does them all well, It's not too shabby either on some other dishes- roast chicken with purée of potatoes, a good pasta dish with diced crab , a fine Hamburger. I had not had the chance to revisit Nice Matin for some time, so I was disappointed when a friend and I sat at the bar at 3:30 pm and we had to share the apervo plate that we had to request twice while a man next to us was given the single one all to himself. I was impressed that the barman had me taste the glass of wine I ordered before pouring a full glass, so that was an upside. Last time I was there patrons ordering "an adult beverage" were given a delicious three-tiered tray of snacks. A depiction of this could be seen the day we were there in a promotional photo of two women sitting outside. Times change, belts tighten but the nuts and olives were not what I remembered and I regret urging friends visiting NYC to have the adult beverage. I should have stayed current, but I am now. When we arrived, the restaurant was mostly empty but it filled in over the next 40 minutes. I am sure it is still a fine place but like other things, not what I remembered. read more
