This is my new favorite place! Im just so sad there so far away for me. Though maybe it's good for my wallet. My favorite here is the egg sandwich and the pineapple bun with the raisin custard inside. A few times I've been in that pineapple bun was already sold out. My husbands favorite is the beef sandwich that's on a sesame flatbread. When I take it home, he pops it in the air fryer and it just smells so good! Taro bun exceptional, amazing fluffy yet incredibly flavorful, five stars to this hole in the wall

We had come to Diamond Bar to re-live our fond lunch memories at a little Chinese cafe we frequented some 20 years ago. After a lunch that was as good as we had remembered, my sweet tooth was set in motion...maybe some custard tarts, sesame balls, steamed rice cake, or something equally yummy, I surmised? Our sweet server gave us a tip that there was a Chinese bakery nearby, and pointed out the door. No name of the business, just a directional point of her finger was all we got, so we were rather clueless. But that has never stopped me from having a tasty adventure. And by golly, I found it in spite of nearly causing a few car accidents. So, Ni Ni Bakery is a tiny hole in the wall business, plainly marked, dark outside, and squeezed in-between some other, very unremarkable businesses in an old strip mall. Blink and you missed it. But I was delighted once I entered. It brought back memories of something I would have bumped into in San Francisco's Chinatown decades ago. To my right, a small case of prettily decorated cakes, to my left, a wide variety of breads, pastries, and cakes individually wrapped. Some were tucked into cubby holes with clear plexiglass doors, others stacked on open, divided shelves. Each section had a label handwritten in Chinese and English and the price. It felt much more "Chinese-y" than the more well known 85°C bakeries. My gut told me I had found a gem. Most of the items were completely unfamiliar to me, so I selected only three "sweet" ones that were either moon cakes or something equally flaky and delicate. One had a traditional yellow bean filling (this I found to be rather dry), another was labeled lotus filling but actually had a dark, fruity paste surrounding a bright yellow egg yolk in the center. The third was a ping pong ball sized pastry with no filling, swirled and speckled. I am clueless what it was, but it was pretty and my taste buds said there were tea leaves in the pastry. I loved that they were exotic and barely sweet. My final choice was one of several pastries sitting the counter, labeled as "yesterday's" quick sale. I chose a flakey cake with a savory pork and radish filling, sprinkled with sesame seeds on top. They were quite a surprise. I found myself loving my choices, with the exception of the yellow bean mooncake which Mr B, on the other hand, thought was very nice. We got on the waitlist for Torotea at the Montefino Shopping Center in Diamond Bar. Ni Ni Bakery is right next door to Torotea. While waiting to be notified, my eldest daughter and I walked into this bakery to check out their goodies. It was towards early evening so selection of pastries and all were quite limited. The pastries along the wall didn't catch my eyes as much as the slices of cakes that were in the refrigeration at the front counter area. We ended up getting one slice of chiffon vanilla cake and one slice of tiger vanilla cake. I enjoyed the chiffon vanilla cake more than the tiger vanilla cake. The former was moist and light where the latter was thick and dense in texture. Both were still great slices. I probably won't get the tiger vanilla cake again though. I wouldn't mind getting the chiffon vanilla cake again. Lady staff was pleasant. Service was good. Inside atmosphere was okay... lots of pretty red decor. Parking can be challenging. It's a little snugged so do be careful backing in and out of the parking space. Btw, they don't just sell pastries and cakes. They have a full wall of drink offerings. I just so happened to try a cake at an event a year ago and found out it came from this bakery. The cake was a simple sponge cake but so delicious that I needed to come give these folks some business. I was glad to come here to find a beautiful selection of baked snacks and ready-made cakes, with the option for custom orders as well. They also make fresh drinks too. I selected a few baked items to take home, but the highlight of my visit was the Taro Mochi Bun. OMG, whatever you do next in your lifetime, make a plan to try this. My life was going in a downward spiral, but this saved me. Just kidding, but yes, these are too good to not pass up. I don't needed to describe tasting this, but if you say Taro Mochi Bun out loud, it's basically calling out the holy trinity of yum. I spoke to the lady behind the counter and the cakes are decently priced. Around the $40 range for a standard, and a little more with fresh fruit added. Either way, a nice spot. My only gripe is that the parking lot is a hot mess, because it's limited and tiny. Also the other drivers who go to this strip mall, I assume, are legally blind. read more

TLDR: grab and go Chinese bakery, avoid if you care THAT much about service When I go to a Chinese bakery, I'm going solely for the bread, especially if there's no seating and it's grab-and-go. So if the bread is good, the lady can cuss me out and I won't care as long as I get my goods. That said, the owner of Ni Ni will not cuss you out (don't worry), but she primarily speaks Mandarin, so do give her a bit of grace. The taro mochi buns and coffee chocolate buns are my favorite. Not very sweet but still quite decadent from the amount of filling. Parking is a bit difficult but it's better after Torotea lost some of its hype. read more

Experienced rudeness with Elderly woman 1) i was in line behind another lady to pay and placed 9 pastries on the counter, she rudely said WAIT and moved the items away from me (i was confused but did not say anything as she looked stressed 2) while the younger cashier was helping me to pay, I saw 2 other items not wrapped on the cart, I asked the younger lady if I can have 2 more. The older lady rudely stated "Do not touch" when i was away from it and in front of the cashier. Once ai finished paying, i said to the younger lady that the older lady is VERY RUDE and she heard me because ai stated it twice. I will rethink about coming back. We purchased a $44 taro cake to celebrate my mom's birthday. When we removed the fruit to cut the cake, we noticed that several pieces of fruit were already moldy, and the top layer of cream was also contaminated. We called the store immediately. The staff member who answered the phone asked us to bring the whole cake back for an exchange. I explained that we had already cut the cake and eaten a few pieces, and she specifically said that was fine, even if we only had photos, or no photos at all, and that she would still honor a replacement cake. Based on that conversation, we decided to bring only the fruit back to show them. When we arrived at the store, another staff member told us that since we did not bring the entire cake and that only the fruit was bad, she could exchange the fruit only, not the cake. She also stated that the staff member who answered the phone was new and had not explained things clearly. Although we were eventually given a replacement cake, the experience was very unpleasant. There was no acknowledgment of fault, no apology, and our question about when the cake was made was not answered. The replacement was given reluctantly. We have been loyal customers of this bakery for many years and have always had wonderful experiences celebrating special occasions with their cakes. Amazing tasing buns here at ni ni bakery. Their peanut butter bun is one of my favorite buns. Its got a nice creamy texture with minced peanuts on top of a baked pineapple bun. Their red bean bun is a favorite of my daughter and our family. Can't go wrong with the red bean bun staple. Got their meat floss bun but have not tried it yet, but i am sure its delicious because of the combination of meat floss and buttery goodness bun. The coconut and raisin bun is also a super delicious with a nice balance of coconut and raisin. Also a staple for those who love coconut buns. Highly recommend you stop by here for their buns. He threw the receipt I had taken to my face and screamed like if I was an animal. The store manager did absolutely nothing other than put her head down. It was a very unfortunate experience. For birthday cakes, our go to is the taro pudding cake. The smallest size available for that cake is 8in, but everyone loves it so even if you only have a few people, I'd still recommend it, because everyone will want some to take home. Found the infamous dirty bun here at Nini! I was super excited but I must say I was not impressed. It was extremely dry! Pretty much a dry croissant covered in Cocoa powder. It is tasteless too.
