As I went back, the stitching got worse and so did the quality. I have a coat altered and it was 100% cashmere. I wanted to get the sleeves shortened, it was done but the stitching is so poor. I also had a 100% silk dress that was completely butchered and I asked if they could redo it. When I wore it the breast and the hip area was too tight; the waist was too big. He said it looked fine and suggest that I bring it home. I went to a different tailor and to get them altered. I put off getting my bridesmaid dress hemmed and then completely forgot until the week of the wedding! Flew into town on Friday, got my dress into Ngan's at 1:30 that same day, received my dress back the next afternoon (Saturday) and had a great wedding evening on Sunday in my dress. So, when I take the time to write a review, it carries value. Ngan's Tailoring is exquisite! I went in to get 5 pairs of Hugo Boss chinos fitted and hemmed to my leg length and to fix some bagginess around my thighs. They went above and beyond with the quality of their stitching to match the Hugo Boss hem and stitching along the pant leg. I am thoroughly impressed by their attention to detail and speediness to deliver. They did exactly what I asked for! And on top of that, the value was amazing! I need to change the waist size to smaller, it takes $20 and the pants they sell in the store is 26 dollars but I didn't bargain due to maybe it was little bit harder then other pants, as long as there is a good result, however when I pick it up, it completely messed up, I don't understand how people can't tell the sewing are white line, and they put a black line on it, I also made it clear for 3 times I wear these pants with the waist side flipped out, like all dickies 874 pants, and there, I got this result, ,if sewing are messy, fine, but can't you bother to change the sewing to white? As a result I see unreasonably charges, irresponsible tailor and ignorance of clients requirements. read more

I have been a customer of Ngan for about 20 years. I am sooo satisfied. He has made about five sport coats, three suits, 25 shirts, many alterations. Good work at a fair price. My best "deal" was four years ago when I went to NYC and bought a BUNCH of high end fabrics (at Beckenstein's). I'm not a fashion expert, but my wife gasped when she read some of the names (I essentially didn't know what I was doing!). Ngan turned them into coats and shirts at a total cost far less than I would have paid at...name your favorite chi-chi department store -that I can't afford. He has done a lot of simple things for me as well. Cuz I can't sew! The only caveat: he often doesn't finish quite when promised. Good to call first before you pick up. This would be five stars but they could not repair a zipper that broke while we were doing a fitting and now I have a pair of jeans with a broken zipper. It's not in their wheelhouse, which is fine, but other tailors are certainly able to replace a zipper so this location just has some limitations. This is my second review -- only because I was so excited about the outcome when I brought into Ngan 4 different yards of linen fabric and described to Ngan exactly what I wanted. Okay, I cheated a little - since I did have my other chinos which had just the size and length I wanted. However, I wanted a different style with an elastic-style belt and the fabrics were different colors of linen. First time (I didn't even have to come back)-- my pants came out perfect - every pair. He was able to add straps that perfectly matched my dress and when they were too big on the first try he adjusted them on a quick turnaround. There's a little changing room, so it was easy to change pairs as Mr. Ngan, a very nice person, made some markings and a week later...the pants were ready and the work was phenomenal. Brought in 2 jackets for the sleeve linings to be repaired/replaced. Didn't look like an easy job but the shop owner did a good job of replacing both of the jackets sleeve linings with decent material. Took a week and the price was definitely reasonable considering one was a leather jacket and the other a branded trench coat. When I went to pick up the 2 jackets, I brought another jacket in for him to look at which would have required replacing sections of the outside which had torn but he simply said not to waste money on it as it would be expensive and didn't look too bad. An honest and very reasonably priced tailor compared to some others I got quotes from and good workmanship! I'll definitely be recommending him to friends and family in the future and be going back to him for any other alterations. read more

Best place to get routine alterations done. I've brought at least three pairs of pants and even a heavy wool coat to Ngan for hemming and shortening respectively. His prices are unreal! This place was a big miss in my book. I took in a couple of dresses I hoped to get altered. The tailor had me try them on, but then had very little interest in ensuring they were marked or pinned carefully such that the final product might be successful. I paid $80, and when I returned for them, the fit was worse than when I dropped them off. The staff was perfectly pleasant and timely, so maybe if you needed a simple hem and they are very near your office, this place might be fine. But if you are on the search for a truly quality tailor, pass this one by. read more

Came here about two years ago with one of my favorite pairs of jeans. The zipper had snapped off, and if you're a lady (plus a tall one like myself), you know how are it is to find a good fitting pair of jeans! I'm a student at SJSU and live by campus, so I thought this tailor was good fit. I remember the price being reasonable, $10 I think? They put a whole new zipper on my jeans in a short amount of time. I remember being very pleased, until I went home to put them on. Whoever "fixed" my jeans didn't sew the zipper far enough to the side to be hidden under that flap that prevents your fly being shown. So my zipper was exposed and looked like my fly was down, even though it wasn't. They were too embarrassing to wear anymore! I probably should of gone back and complained to see if they could solve the problem, but the woman who helped me didn't speak very good English, so I felt like I would have to walk in with the zipper abomination to prove my point. I ultimately ended up recycling the jeans. =( read more

He's extremely professional and will listen to what you want, as opposed to many other tailors who just do what they want. Make sure you're specific as to what you want from the alterations and don't be afraid to ask for special requests or to ask for his suggestions on what he thinks would work best.
