I've been coming here for nearly 20 years. Kim usually does decent work but a few recent experiences have me questioning her integrity. I've brought in plenty of pants for tapering, shortening, taking in the waist, etc. Last winter I brought in pants that were off the rack and a little long with a 32 length. As usual, I tried them on with shoes and Kim helped measured the length to shorten and I picked them up a week later. Super quick process. I didn't try them on at pickup since I had a lot of work done by her previously so I had no reason to doubt her work. Unfortunately I went 3 months without wearing them but when I did, they were still far too long so I had to bring them in again. I explained the situation and when she examined the pants, she told me it was still the factory stitching so there wasn't any work done by her or any other tailor. I was surprised by that, and that she didn't recognize her own work. I assured her I brought them in just a few months prior. When she remeasured the length, she marked to pants to shorten another 1 1/8 in. She said that she always cuts the length requested by customers and so it was my fault and had to pay again for work on the pants. I have all my pants around 29 inseam so this obviously was not accurate and rather annoying she tried to blame me for the incorrect length since she was the one who previously measured. I needed them done so I went ahead. I didn't want to leave a review about this but the following experience was embarrassing and needed to share. I recommended her shop to a friend who needed to shorten the length of 2 curtains but had a horrible experience. At pickup, Kim casually mentioned that 1 of the curtains were already damaged at drop-off and that she decided to do a free patching for the damage. My friend was not notified of any damage prior to pickup, and furious there wasn't any sort of communication. She couldn't even return the "already damaged" curtains because of Kim's unilateral decision to patch the hole. I felt responsible so I sent my friend $600 to cover the cost of curtains. If there was truly damage already, why wouldn't you inform the customer first to decide options?! This used to be my go to tailor but it's now on my blacklist. read more

A long overdue review. For reasons involving family that I won't get into, my partner and I decided to get married on a certain date that was only 3 weeks out from when we made the decision. It was a small and simple wedding, but it was still a LOT to get done in 3 weeks. I found my wedding dress in the first week, but that meant I had 2 weeks to get it altered. I called 6 places that all just about laughed at me when I told them I needed a wedding dress in 2 weeks. When I called Kim, she said she'd do it and she did. She did a beautiful job with it, and even did something that was a bit complicated that she said she wouldn't have time to do. She promised to have it to me by Thursday afternoon, the day before the wedding, and it was done that morning. I wasn't sure which bra would work with the dress once it was altered so I brought 4 options, and she helped me try the dress on with each one even though I know she had other things to do. I want to update my review and reaffirm that this location is legit. At last my search is over when it comes to an alteration specialist. Going here I don't feel judged by the items I bring in, small or large. Kim is professional and fast. The items I've brought in recently were complicated fixes. I was told by 2 other seamstresses that it couldn't be done. Well not at The Perfect Fit, they are like my fairy Godmother, they said yes! So I get to keep these articles of clothing....yay!!!! The items: -1 dress - that was too small. I purchased fabric from Joann's that complimented the dress, Perfect Fit was able to enlarge the dress in the arms and chest area. I'm over the moon about this. -1 jumpsuit- 2 sizes too big. They will bring in the crotch area, so it won't be baggy. -1 pant- too small. With extra fabric, they'll add more width. -1 sweater - too low in the shoulders. Brought up the shoulders to make a beautiful pleat in the arm. I like buy my clothes at thrift shops or online (eBay, ThredUp, Poshmark). Sometimes I find something I love that doesn't fit. This is where having an excellent seamstress comes in handy. The perfect spot to get the perfect fit! We recently came by here to get my fiancé's suit tailored for a wedding we had to attend in May. We came around mid-April on a Friday afternoon, and were seen immediately. It took maybe 5 minutes for Kim to measure the sleeves of the suit jacket and length of the pants to our liking. The turn around time was approx. 3 weeks, which isn't too terrible considering it was also prom season and they were pretty swamped with other orders. Cost was fairly reasonable as well- about $75 total for the suit jacket and pants. We had called a few other tailors and got similar quotes. We picked up our order on the agreed upon date and the suit was tailored very nicely. Kim hit the mark and totally nailed it! For my first visit, I took my high school prom dress here; tailored perfectly. Ten years later, I had two pairs of pants I needed altered. One came out perfect, the other was WAY too short. Kim tried to fix it, but it was already cut too short--at least 1 or 2 inches too short even with leeway for a misunderstanding. She gaslit me instead of apologizing, insisting that I had requested this length (absolutely no way). Reasonable, friendly, flexible, and most importantly, she knows how to alter. Honestly, what more can you expect from an alterations place. In fact, if the place is beautiful and they have excellent customer service but ruin your clothes it probably wouldn't work out. I've been to a lot of tailors in my life, and I'm incredibly picky, and Kim is by far the best. Been coming here for 5 years now, and she really knows what's she's doing. I've had dozens of items tailored here over the years including pants, shirts, suits, sport coats, and overcoats and I've been happy with the results. I've even had her do some pretty serious alterarions, and was blown away by the outcome. I won't take suits or anything expensive anywhere besides here. Even though I live in SF, this is still my go-to tailor. A few notes. It's cash only, so bring cash. Also prices are higher than your dry-cleaner tailor, but the quality and craftsmanship is also so much higher. It's worth it. The service here was flawless. I brought in a dress that was sewn a little too tight. The sewing of the dress wasn't well done and I really hoped I could get it fixed. Kim was pro-active in suggesting areas she could let out and how to make the dress fit comfortably. The turnaround time was also amazingly short. I thought it would take a week from the Wednesday when I dropped it off but by the next day, she'd already made adjustments and asked if I could come wear it so she would know if she needed to make more adjustments. I was able to pick it up in about 3 days. The pricing is abouthigher than the other alteration shop I go to. But for the fast delivery and attention to detail, I think it's worth it. I used Perfect Fit for my wedding dress alterations. Owner/seamstress Kim was very friendly and easy to get ahold of by phone to schedule an appointment. I was happy with my alterations which were minimal - cups sewn in, a bustle, and shortening of the dress. It may have been just a teeny bIt over-shortened (Kim said it was because my booty grew in the couple weeks between appointments) but I thought it was fine because I didn't want to trip over my dress when walking down the isle. These simple alterations cost me $320 after tax. The price of course depends on the dress material/layers/amount of adjustments made- I know it can run up to $800. There are definitely cheaper places around but I did not want to worry about getting my wedding dress ruined so I came here for the peace of mind. After my dress was altered, my maid of honor made sure to come to the shop so that Kim could teach her how to bustle my dress for the reception. Kim showed my MOH how to use safety pins in several spot to pin up my dress. My MOH followed the drections (we even had made a video of Kim doing it to make sure she'd know to do it correctly). However, the pins didn't do the job of holding up the dress and I was having a really hard time constantly stepping on my dress during the first dance (and the rest of the night), I think Kim did not consider that the pins woud slip through the lace as they did. I wish she would have sewn in more bustles (even if it would have cost me more) or suggested a more relaible way to bustle my train so that it would have actually stayed put. Overall, Kim really knows what she is doing when it comes to wedding dresses. She works quickly and confidently so don't be afraid to bring your dress here. CASH or CHECK ONLY read more

-- This is a review on behalf of, and written by my boyfriend -- Kim at The Perfect Fit was awesome! She was able to help me alter a pair of raw selvedge denim to my specifications. She first hemmed the length, removing about 2.5 inches from the inseam. She was also able to taper from the knee down, shortening the leg opening from 8.25 inches to 7.5 inches. She maintained the selvedge by making the alteration from the inseam, rather than the outseam that most of the other places said they would do. Your inseam will only have a single stitch, vs. a double -- and that is the only downside. If your jeans already have a single stitch on the inseam, it will look factory. I think it looks better that way anyway. I've also brought a 2-piece suit here in the past, which was tailored to perfection. I'll be coming back to Kim with any of my alteration needs! read more
