Went here last week for cinco de mayo. I knew it would be busy but decided to give it a try. They said it would be a 30ish minute wait. Understandable. BF and I got a couple margs and waited outside. 40 mins goes by so I go in and check. They say it'll be another 20ish mins. 30 mins goes by and they say another 30 mins. Pretty hangry at this point. Again, I get its cinco de mayo. We finally get seated more than an hour and a half later. We order the guac and tortilla chips as an app. Guac wasn't bad. Chips were stale like they were out all day of cinco de mayo. My BF orders steak tacos as his entree. I order the Cochinita Pibil. "Slow cooked pork in achiote. Served with rice, beans and tortillas". We finally get that 30 mins later. His tacos were subpar to say the most. Quote "I wouldn't get tacos here again". My dish was the BLANDEST meal I've ever had in my life. It tasted like nothing. I was visibly upset when the waitress finally walked by 15 mins later and told her I couldn't eat it. She asked if I wanted something else so I told her I'd just have the steak tacos because I was starving at this point. She then asked if I wanted a box for the entree I originally ordered and I said no because it didn't taste good at all and neither of us would eat it. She began to walk away and I politely asked if she would still charge me for the cochinita pibil and she said yes so I told her I wouldn't want anything else and to just give us the check once my bf was done with his meal. She didn't pay attention to me the rest of the time we were there. She did end up charging us for that bland plate. Pretty sad. I regret not asking to talk to someone because I guarantee no one in that kitchen would have enjoyed it either, as they were all Hispanic from what I could tell. I myself am Central American so I know authentic dishes. Sad to say I will not be going back there. Good luck! read more

We recently stopped into Neza for lunch on a Sunday. It wasn't very busy, but it was an off time. We were promptly greeted and sat. The restaurant appeared very clean and well taken care of. Our waitress Aylen was very nice and very helpful. Being a vegetarian, I was disappointed to learn that both the beans and rice contain chicken stock, leaving the options very limited. I ordered the Veggie Enchilada's which do not contain cheese, and they did let me substitute the rice and beans for a side salad, which was fresh. The meal was very tasty and honestly the first time in a very long time where my food was so good that I didn't require hot sauce! My fiancé ordered the Fajita mix, which he stated was some of the best fajitas he has had in a very long time. The guacamole, pico and salsa were all fresh. The reason for the 4, not 5 stars wasn't due to the food - which was amazing, the atmosphere or the service. It was because I felt nickel and dimed when I got our receipt. They charged me an upcharge for salad dressing for my side salad. They charged an upcharge for sour cream and cheddar cheese. So, those added about $6 to my bill. My wife & I decided on a whim to get Mexican food while driving home through this area, tried this place after seeing on Yelp. I had no expectations going in but WOW the food is AMAZINGLY GOOD. And boy howdy they do NOT skimp on the portions - we ordered way too much food by mistake but that's ok, we got to sample a lot of really yummy stuff. And the price was hard to beat, too - most entrees are $20-$30 which is really reasonable for the portions you get; you won't go home hungry. The pro-forma chips are good enough, but that cold salsa was REALLY flavorful without being "hot/spicy". Absolutely excellent. The chicken tortilla soup is BIG and DAMN it's good. Just absolutely delicious. Lots of meat, and yummy hunks of some kind of semi-soft cheese. Great flavor/seasoning in the soup. I got "fajita mix" (chicken & steak) and unlike a lot of places where the meat is the weakest part...tough, fatty or gamy...the meat here was pretty good. Not as good as ordering a standalone chicken or steak dinner, but still pretty good meat. Seasoning is perfect, too. A bit heavy on the peppers and onions, but that's not my favorite part...if it's yours, you'll love it. The presentation of the rice, cheese, guac, salsa, etc are in these little animal-esque shaped stone bowls. A bit cutesy, but I dig it. All the ingredients were TOP notch here, too. My wife ended up getting Tacos de Birria. The taco shells were slightly greasy, but not obnoxiously so. I think it's unavoidable from the way the meat's seasoned and cooked which MORE than makes up for it; they were REALLY good. Lots of yummy cheese in there, too. The consome sauce was KILLER! She also got (by mistake, we had no idea how big these portions were) Sopas which were HUGE. She got one steak and one al pastor (pork). The "thick" corn tortillas aren't as much my cup of tea, but she assured me they were excellently-done. And again, the meat and other toppings more than make up for any other shortcomings. The decor is charmingly offbeat. It's got a hole-in-the-wall vibe but at the same time, they're trying to be a little hip, too. Your standard peppy Mexican music that's heavy on the accordions and brass on the speakers, too. It feels pretty authentic in there; like they're trying hard but not trying TOO hard, if that makes sense? Our waitress was really nice, too. Obvs you may or may not get her as your server, but that certainly made a really good dining experience into a great one. It's rare that one stumbles across a "hole in the wall" place that really delivers, but Neza totally does. We'll definitely be coming back! read more

This place is a hidden gem, and easily the best Mexican food in Warwick. Among the best in the state. They have the standard fare (quesadillas, fajitas, etc) but also have less standard fare that's absolutely delicious (such as sopes and chicharron gorditas). Solid service, ambiance is fine though I usually do takeout. Great tequila seelction as well! read more

GREAT New Mexican in the area. Neza is family owned and a little tough to see on Warwick Avenue but very much worth the trip. Our server was attentive and courteous and the food was served promptly. A little hiccup on order was corrected quickly and our drinks and food came out right away. Handmade guacamole, outstanding tequila selection, mixed drinks and authentic Mexican food with portions that will last for days. The chicken mole entree had just enough 'kick' to make me sweat but not enough to drive me away. Overall, very strong first visit. Give it a try, I think you'll be glad you did! read more

Huge portions and amazing food! We ordered take out and were pleasantly surprised at how much food we got! My husband at the steak burrito - the sauce was tangy and delicious! I met a girlfriend who recommended this for dinner. I wasn't even sure I was at the right place cause I missed the sign on Warwick Avenue. It has an unimpressive exterior but let me tell you inside is great! It has a bar and a few high tops along the wall and the rest is tables and booths. Decorated modern, very nice. We were seated in a cozy booth. it wasn't crazy busy but full, and we never felt rushed Our waitress was so sweet and polite. We started with the Elote corn which was delicious. My friend had the tamarind margarita which she loved. They had a very extensive and varied menu. Don't pass this by, what a great place to try. We will be back. read more

I was a bit hesitant to try Mexican food in RI as I'm originally from CA where the Mexican food is authentic and delicious. The reviews for Neza did not steer me wrong! The food ended up being great! I ordered the grilled fish tacos which were surprisingly amazing. It had a great balance of savory, a bit tart (from the slaw and maybe some lime?), and creamy from the sauce. The black refried beans that come with it were unexpectedly very good too! Another guest that was with me ordered the carnitas California burrito which was HUGE. If you order this, plan on sharing it with a friend it can feed at LEAST 2 people if not more! Despite the size, it still stood out with its taste which was on par with the rest of the great food. Chicken tortilla soup was so good! The broth was very flavorful, it is a bit tart/strong if you take a big bite but delicious nonetheless. Highly recommend their white sangria which was a perfect balance of sweet and not too strong either. The fruit was good on it too! Free chips and salsa, of course, with a very mild, if not no spice, salsa. Service was great, ambiance was a little weird as it's kind of like you're eating in a basement. Authentic Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood! Yes please!!! They recently opened and we have already been two times! The ambiance is nice perfect for a date night or to just bring the whole family. Both times the food has been excellent as well as the service! We started with Elotes. Street corn and fresh table made guacamole. Both were excellent and we wanted to order more!! The corn is 4 good pieces great for the table loaded with flavor just like in Mexico! We have ordered vegatarian enchiladas, excellent and they let me change it to spicy mole sauce! 5 star! Husband had shrimp diablo, which I also ate!! It was a little bite but not spicy. The flavor was on point!! Today i had the fried fish tacos and they were perfect fresh, it cane with flour tortillas next time I'll ask for corn because I prefer corn but they were great. They have a great kids menu too! We love this place! Service is great. The brinks are FIRE!!! Spicy margarita and guava margarita are to die for. We wanted to try an authentic Mexican restaurant . We were lucky to find this gem . The reviews were great for a reason . Small, clean , ambiance. Open for lunch we went around 1230pm. You had a choice. Greeted by one of the owners . The booths and tables surrounded a small bar. We had chips and Queso, Fajita Texans and 3 tacos chicken and steak . The rice was awesome and the black beans were prepared and served puréed. The owner also prepared homemade guacamole for another party .we asked him how they were made. The servings were generous .sides for fajitas were in little cute containers. Sorry for the long review however it is definitely worth the ride on the Warwick Cranston line. This is an awesome Mexican restaurant in Warwick. I love the ambiance and it's a nice sized restaurant. I called ahead both times to make reservations as it does get busy. The food is really delicious! The love the thickness and crunch of the chips but wish there was more salt on them. The guacamole is really nice and is more on the limey side which I enjoy! The kids always enjoy their food and love their rice. I had the enchilada suizas and they were good but a little more on the plain side for me. Another time, I got the fajita mix and it was really good and came with a ton of peppers and onions. My husband enjoys the molcajete and enjoyed the salsa verde one more. My friend got the birra tacos those were really nice too!! The server is always friendly and understanding. I also have had their flan which was good. My only complaint was that the drinks seemed a little weak and service can be a little slow at the end to get the bill. But, the food comes out quite quickly after ordering. This is definitely a nice addition to the area and we will continue to visit! My son also enjoys the flags around the bar area ( he wanted me to mention that). read more

Neza Mexican really impressed me with their level of service. I showed up on a normal Tuesday night and the entire restaurant floor (10-12 tables and booths) were managed by a single server. When I told her I like spicy margaritas she created a custom drink with cucumber and habanero infused tequila. It was a perfect start to the meal. Next came chips and salsa, and while the salsa was fine, the chips had no salt on them, making them extremely bland. That was the only point of improvement for the entire experience. I ordered their carnitas and chorizo taco for Tacomania and the chicken Guerrero as the entree. Everything was delicious and my server even gave me some of their house made hot sauce to try with the tacos. The tacos themselves were great, as was the chicken Guerrero. Nothing else needed to improve there. The building looks unassuming from the outside, but inside they've created a small, intimate, authentic Mexican restaurant. Great job! read more

Tried the asada and carnitas tacos and they were both great. Beans & rice were awesome as wll. Loved my purple drink - so pretty and very tasty as well. Server was friendly and just the right amount of attentiveness. Loved that there is off street parking in the large lot behind the restaurant, and there is a back door you can use to enter the restaurant. Great evening out! read more

Searching for "new restaurants near me" and these guys popped up - I had already saved them on a google map for RI Food Fights Taco month, so a win win! Weird entrance - automatic sliding door - was this a grocery once? They've tried to do the best they could with the odd space - there are pratically no windows so you feel like you're in a basement - but it works, and it's mainly the food that matters, right? We shared a couple carne asada tacos and the chicken flautas, plus a side of guac, which was handmade over at the server's station. The tacos were great - steak was cooked nice, and their was a good amount...tortillas held up too. The flautas were fantastic, and the rice was good (I am a Mexican rice snob, and these guys have good flavor in their, with peas & carrots bringing me back to my years in San Diego. Only complains are the atmosphere - some of the lighting was a bit harsh - and the speed of service - it was not crowded but seemed slow. Otherwise, our server (Stefania?) was fantastic and attentive... We will definitely be back and are looking forward to seeing how their birria stacks up! read more

The birria tacos were good, but their guacamole tasted a little off maybe over spiced or the ripeness of the avocado? But it was $10 so it was a little disappointing. The drinks were very good but the glasses were filled with a lot of ice . When we went the fire alarm went off for a half an hour, obviously they didn't want that either. But no one ever even referenced it to our table or said that they were working on it... it was just ignored and we couldn't hear each other well. But it's really cute inside, I like what they did with the place. I would try it again, hopefully there is no alarm! read more

Had heard the food was good, but the level of attention to detail and the very authentic and not standardized Mexican options blew me away. We actually live quite nearby and had been curious about this place since it opened. Right off the bat, I ordered the elote because I love this dish, and the only 'off' note to the whole night was they used mayonnaise instead of sour cream like I expected. We were celebrating some good news, so I wanted to get a fancy drink, the name of which I forget, but it had smoky mezcal, and came in a glass 'skull' ala Day of the Dead decor and had a delicious blue sugar rim. My husband ordered the mixed fajitas and the presentation really impressed us. First, all the side sauces--avocado, sour cream, pico de gallo, cheese and delicious rice and beans--came on their own little platter in these kind of pot 'alebrijes' ( decorative Mexican spirit animals) and then the platter of vegetables and strips of meat and chicken was delivered sizzling to the table. I love fancy cocktails and there were a lot of tequila based cocktails to choose from--and I will be back to try the rest!--so I ordered a second drink with espresso and coffee liquor and a good quality tequila. Again, bowled over by the attention to detail. This drink delivered in an old fashioned glass had a single gigantic 'ice globe' to keep it cool while you sipped. I had never seen anything like it before--between the size of a ping pong ball and a tennis ball--and the drink also had a stick of furled cinnamon with one end carefully charred. I just kept thinking about how much attention and thought the owners and chef into each dish. This is not a fine dining or gourmet establishment, rather a place with a 'neighborhood' or 'barrio' feel and yet they demonstrated more thought and originality than some of the most highly touted nouvelle cuisine restaurants I read about. read more
