Best fish and chips I have ever had. I love this place and could easily eat there seven days a week. The fish is always fresh, never greasy, and the fries are the perfect balance between crispy and soft. I tend to prefer the halibut and fries (around $6) to the salmon and fries (around $7) although you can't go wrong with any of their selections. My personal favorite is the shrimp and chips and unlike other fish and chips restaurants that skimp on the fish Newman's easily fills me up. My only complaint is their hours, I wish they would stay open till 8 or 9pm, however they are always great about squeezing in a last min order just before closing. I highly recommend Newman's for anyone looking for great seafood. Lastly I recommend calling your order in ahead of time, it usually takes them 10-15 mins. read more

Probably one of my all-time favorite meals in town is Newman's salmon n chips. The salmon typically comes in big chunks (less fried crap), the breading is just right and the fries are classic and big. I have never had anything but good experiences there and have eaten there probably 100 times. I am confused by the reviews that said they had to wait forever to get their food. The most I have had to wait is ~15 minutes; it usually takes 7-10 minutes for fish n chips. Newman's will always have a place in my heart and my belly too ;P read more

Best fish n' chips I've ever had and a contender for the best fish that I've tasted. Perfectly golden-brown fish batter, with the most amazing flaky white halibut, and fries that are nice and thick but crunchy on the outside with smooth potato inside. Never been in the market, but the walk-up window is charming, and you get to see the fish being fried right there! My wife and I just tried Newmans on Willamette fish and chips for the first time and boy were we impressed!! The halibut was delicate, yet stood up to the hand cut fries like the fish was in charge! As far as the market goes: absolutely the best selection of fresh regional fish in town, often available never frozen. The take out window offers the best fish and chips I've found in town. I have been buying their fried fish, scallops and shrimp for years. Last night I got all of the above and some chowder. Staff is sometimes friendly sometimes not. IS it just me or have the shrimp and scallops gotten smaller. The salmon and fish are good sized and fill you up but don't count on a single order of shrimp or scallops to do that. I love the take out window and that they are open in any weather. The seafood inside is the best if you want to cook your own. Even though I asked twice the gentleman serving me(who by the way had a cold and that made me a bit worried as he handled the food putting it into my package)forgot the shrimp sauce. OK, so I had a lot of reservations before trying this place, as I had THOUGHT I had found my tried and true at Fisherman's Market (which is also delicious.) Boy was I wrong. Their salmon, coconut prawns, and halibut are my absolute favorite. If you enjoy a citrus-y bite each and every time, make sure to ask for extra lemon wedges, as they only give you 2. Always leaves me super full and satisfied. Way to go Newmans! I love Newman's for any number of reasons, but firstly because they consistently provide high end Sushi grade fish. Personally i could give a rats ass to the fried food end of Newman's for quality fish deep frying is a shame anyway, but still "it's the best around." Shannon the fish goddess, and the rest of their staff provide freshly cut seafood at really reasonable prices often cutting it in front of you.
