I've always liked Newk's but until Covid is under control I'm not sure if we should be going to this particular location. The tables were very clean and the food was good but I'm bothered by the fact that on the last three visits the same young lady has been getting people's drinks while she has her nose sticking out of her mask. She was also fidgeting with it quite a bit which defeats the purpose of the mask. Any contamination that gets on the mask is now on her hands and therefore on our cups. Since a lot of the things Newk's serves are finger food this is a recipe for disaster. The staff is also not enforcing the mask rules for customers. There are signs that say masks are required but there was a lady in line in front of me that had her mask down around her chin. This is like telling your date that he has to wear a condom but if it's uncomfortable he can snip off the tip. It kinda defeats the purpose. This is a difficult time for restaurants and I understand that but there are so many places that are handling things better. I think maybe we'll have to stay away until Covid is under control. read more

This review is strictly based in ordering food to go. To begin, get here a little early for normal lunch time. Parking lot is very crowded and shares space with three other restaurants. When you walk in large menus to your right with soups, salads, sandwiches, pizza. I went with the Ultimate salad. Once you place your order they take your name and you wait for them to call you to the counter. When I filled my drink I checked out there Grab 'n Go' cooler. They have a good variety of stuff available here in case you are in a rush. Kind of nice they thought ahead and put a cash register right next to the Gran 'n Go' so you can get in and out quickly My salad was very good. Very fresh ingredients. Plenty of everything. Not the typical salad where you are questioning where the meat or other topping are to find a sliver of the item mixed into the salad somewhere. I have had better and I have had worse. The service was acceptable and the staff was very responsive. They were pretty busy since I came in on a Saturday afternoon so I can forgive the miserable cashier and having another table pushed up to mine while I was in the middle of eating. The food was good with the loaded potato soup tasting like rich cream with spices and potato...as one would imagine. The sandwich tasted great with a pleasant yeasty, slightly sweet taste from the bread. However, I don't think I would go back anytime soon. The food and service is fine but at the price I paid for half a sandwich, a cup of soup and a drink I could have went to Chili's or Ruby Tuesdays. I love a good meal from newks!!!! I'm a die hard for the Greek salad with chicken. Fresh with a delicious dressing and made with love obviously. The sandwiches and pizzas are also delicious. I think you could eat here everyday and never get bored. Also the condiment bar is a nice treat to add extra flavour to your meal. Not like you need it though. I've eaten at this restaurant numerous times in the past and have always been pleased with the service and food. Due to COVID-19 restaurant restrictions, curbside service is only available. I placed my order online and paid prior to arrival. Once I arrived there was an employee at the curbside door ready to pass out orders. Soup, salad, pizza, sandwiches. Really there is something for just about anyone. I always get the Newks Q. It's meats, cheeses and white BBQ sauce! Amazing! To go with my sandwich the potato soup always calls my name! I just wish that they offered it every single day, but they only offer certain soups on certain days of the week. My husband always gets the margarita pizza! To me, their pizzas aren't that great compared to all of the other pizza places in Birmingham! This particular Newks is nice. They have nice decorations and the staff is helpful and friendly. Just ordered from here through DoorDash and while I have ordered through this method before from Newks and others this time the sandwich came through missing some things. I ordered the Newk's Q and I know it comes with bacon but the bacon was only on one side of the sandwich in a ball. From the other reviews I'm sure you get the gist of what the highlights are and what is popular. What I particularly like about newks is the size portions of the sandwiches and the consistency of how they serve the food. All the locations I have been to have also been fairly clean as well staff is polite and accommodating for a fast casual restaurant. Sure there are times when you wait a little longer than others especially during lunch hour. I like the turkey breaststroke sandwich and i alternate between the soup or salad. I have been to Newk's several times both as a customer and doordash driver and I've always had a great experience. However this was not the case. It was obvious that I was waiting on a turbo order and several employees just walked right past me without acknowledging me or saying hello. OK, I won't bore you with what we already know about the Newks franchise. Do they have tasty soups, salads, sandwiches, & pizza? Yes! Great place to grab an affordable meal for sure...but hey, you already knew that! This location deserves a special shout out from me due to their consistency each & every time I call in an order. I will admit... I usually don't order during peak hours so I'm sure that contributes to my A+ service but good service is good service. My order is always correct & ready for pick up when I arrive. Always good food! We ordered the Club sandwich with chips and the Mediterranean pizza with the 1/2 Caesar salad. Everything was very flavorful and enjoyed it. Only 2 small complaints. Chicken on the Mediterranean needs to be cut a little thicker or something so it doesn't dry out in the oven. And PLEASE, get some shades or something because most every guest was crowded away from the windows just so you could see without squinting. I haven't been to Newks in a while so we decided to go have a salad & sandwich. With my experience, a lot of restaurants are great the first year or six months. So I wasn't expecting bad service but not 'top notch'. One word from me was 'Wow!' The service was not the same as when they first opened (which was awesome) but they have stepped up and the employees & managers being available at all times was impressive! This is go-to lunch place for now on. I would love to suggest lids for water cups. Maybe you have them and I didn't see them. However, the food made up for it. Great salad! Great sandwich! Today was my first time going to Newk's. It was spacious enough to accommodate the lunch crowd without feeling overwhelmed or packed. I went to meet with another local business owner to discuss business and get to know each other. It is a nice casual place but professional as well. I ordered a Caesar salad with grilled chicken. When I placed the order I mentioned it being my first time and was warmly welcomed. Later during my meal I was visited by the very person who took my order. I felt appreciated. The employee (can't remember his name) shared the most popular menu items and the soups that were going to be added to the menu for the upcoming seasonal change. My family of 4 came for an early lunch on Xmas Eve. The place is usually packed on Saturday afternoons but this holiday Monday was pretty slow. That was good because we had our pick of table. Two of us had chicken salad sandwiches and those two people swear it's the best chicken salad anywhere. Riverchase Newks has been my Sunday lunch place since it opened. The food was excellent and the portions were generous. Then, a couple years ago I noticed that half of my sandwich was plain bread, no meat, cheese, condiments. So I switched to the salads. Again, nice big bowl full of mixed greens. Then they got new bowls last year. Noticeably smaller bowls. Still there was the Triple-Take salad so I was happy. As of this week though, no more Triple-Take. It was removed from the menu. Came here after the gym just to grab a pizza. We ended up sharing it Ordered, sat down and got the pizza in about ten minutes. This might have been the best pizza I've had in a really long time. One of the best Newks locations. Honestly I'm just a salad freak and haven't ventured out to much on the menu but I've heard nothing but great things about everything else. The chicken salad is pretty good also. This location gets a little crowded sometimes and service gets slow. I was slightly disappointed because they forgot things in my order that I didn't realize till I got home. I'm sure those small bumps can be overlooked. Pretty solid service and lunch spot. read more

The food is very rich and full of so much oil. Read the pizza menus carefully. Pizzas do not come with a marinara sauce they are mostly pesto sauce. The pesto sauce is so much oil that my veggie pizza just tasted like artichokes in oil. My son got a kids cheese pizza. It is not an ordinary cheese pizza. It is a pesto oil sauce with 5 different cheeses which were so oily that we had to towel off the top before he would try it. He didn't like it at all because of the sharpness of the different cheeses. My husbands salad had excessive dressing as well. So if you are a fan of sauces and oils this place is for you. read more

Have loved newk's in the past for their A-MAZ-ING chicken salad sandwich with spicy mustard. It's like an unhealthier, yummier panera. However this isn't my favorite newk's experience. Got here at 1ish on a sunday. Planned for a group of 9, which is a bit ambitious for a busy restaurant but thought we could make it work given it's size. There were NO tables and my husband and I desperately grabbed an un-cleared-away 4-seater when it came available thinking we could combine when the rest of the party arrived. There was no place to dump the dishes and a busboy came around eventually. We moved again when a 6-seater came available, then tried our luck outside--no tables big enough for 5+, and all covered in dishes and trash, so then moved back inside and squeezed into another booth which worked since two members didn't show. Again, the place was busy but this table was ALSO not cleared and covered in crud that we had to clean up ourselves. By this time our sandwich order had been in for half an hour or more and I went to ask a nearby employee, simply because I thought they might have lost us in our frequent moving around which would've been understandable. The guy sounded very frustrated and brushed me off with an "as you can see we're very busy" and cut me off before I could explain why I asked. I may try another newks again (downtown and hwy 280 have proved good) but the chicken salad sandwich of my dreams has dwindled a bit. This Newk's is located right behind Panda Express and Steak n' Shake in Hoover. I've been here about 20 times - all for lunch. I've ordered pickups and I dined in several times. My first Newk's experience was in Charlotte, NC. I used to go to Newk's for lunch every single day when I was there on a business trip for 8 months. When I moved to Hoover, there was no Newk's around here so I definitely missed their Newk's "Q" sandwich, which is the most delicious little sandwich. As soon as I heard Newk's was coming to the old Chinese restaurant space, I was very excited. The restaurant is clean and organized, the wait time isn't too bad unless you have a group of people eating together. My favorites are Newk's "Q" sandwich and Spicy Shrimp pizza. For some reason, I'm addicted to those two. I am pretty sure I had ordered that sandwich like 10 days in a row at one point. I have gotten to know one of the regional managers at Newk's, and he seemed cool too.
