When I arrived to get a bowl, I was absolutely famished after surviving the day on nothing but a yogurt and determination. I couldn't decide what I wanted, so I asked Taylor, the employee behind the counter, to make her personal favorite bowl and surprise me. I assured her I liked all the ingredients, so she happily took over. When she got to the meats, she even offered me a sample of the spicy chicken first to make sure I liked it. I definitely did. She also paired the bowl with three separate sauces she thought would go well with it. And let me tell you... that bowl was AMAZING. I really like the taste and variety of options at CAVA. This was my first visit to this location because I did not realize the location closer to my office had been closed. I ordered the Chicken Shawarma Pita with a side of the Cinnamon Sugar Pita Chips and a soda. The order was supposed to be for dine in but it was bagged up as to go. The pita tasted great but was extremely messy. Fortunately I still decided to eat at the restaurant because more napkins were required. I had every intention of saving the side of pita chips for later but decided to go ahead and try it. They were so good I couldn't help myself and ate them all. The service isn't the best but the food is so good that I'm willing to overlook it. Tonight my mom and I both built our own bowls and got a side of the harissa pita chips (limited time menu offer). The food was delicious, as always! The harissa pita chips were good but not very spicy. After we finished eating we placed a mobile pickup order for a side of pita chips to bring home (as the in-person ordering had a bit of people in line and there didn't seem to be any mobile orders on the other side). Our estimated order time to pickup was 10 minutes later. It ended up taking 20 minutes to get the pita chips. We went to the pickup window and just kinda lingered in hopes someone would notice us. Cava at this location is always busy so I decided to go later in the afternoon. It was still somewhat busy, but not as bad. I decided to try the Harissa Chicken bowl. For about $14, the salad was not only delicious, but Cava gives great portions. I tried it with their taziki sauce and their spicy sauce and out of the two, the spicy sauce was the extra kick that the salad needed. It took it to another level. It also came with many ingredients like humus, corn, cucumbers, tomatoes, and feta cheese. I also added broccoli and slaw. It's just a really delicious and fresh salad. My husband had never had Cava before so they went over the different options with him. They gave suggestions based on what he said he liked. That helped him figure out what he wanted to order. I went with something that I had ordered before and I tried one of their specialty drinks, which had lavender in it. It was pretty good. I don't know if I was just extra hungry that day or if the food was extra good because I had eaten all of my food by the time I realized I hadn't taken one singular picture. Finally got an invite to try this place. Parking can be a little limiting if they're really busy and the space inside is unique in that it's in a very rectangular shape. Almost a third of the establishment is just holding space for pickup and to go orders. The rest are tables and sitting bar style against the very open glass window that looks onto John Hawkins parkway and the parking lot. So there's plenty of natural light. There is a small self service drink area where you can get the basic soda and some house made drinks like Unsweet black tea, sweet tea, pineapple apple mint, blueberry lavender, cucumber mint lime and classic lemonade. I tried them and my favorite was the cucumber mint lime. You stand in line and proceed down the line while they create your dish. The options are simple yet very customizable. Simple because there's 5 chef curated pitas and 5 chef curated bowls. Then there's build your own. Choose your base of a pita or bowl with greens, grains or both. PIck up to 3 dips. Pick your tow main proteins. Add as many toppings as you like. Pick your dressing. I opted for the Spicy lamb meatball pita. I didn't customize it so they made it with hummus, tomato, cucumber, pickled onions, cabbage slaw, salt brined pickles, skhug, and garlic dressing. The spicy lamb meatballs were good. Good flavor, not very spicy. The gentleman at the end wrapping up my pita had to squeeze out a lot of "liquid" that accumulated in my pita with all the ingredients. It's a large sized pita about the size of a small pizza. It was delicious and I would get it again. Aside from the meatballs, I liked the crunchy pickled cucumbers and cabbage slaw. The place had a nice friendly atmosphere with a steady lunch crowd and people coming in to pickup orders. You can watch their "kitchen" as workers cut up meats and prepped toppings. Not surprisingly, Birmingham trails other cities in the timeline for getting in on this bold new concept. It can be described as "the Mediterranean version of Chipotle ". The menu is short and simple, but you can make your dish as complex as you would like. Basically, you build a bowl or handheld pita from a variety of fresh vegetables, proteins, and sauces/dressings. Or, you can select from a short list of predetermined entrees. I decided to try a predefined bowl, and chose the Harissa Avocado Chicken. Harissa Chicken is a popular Mediterranean preparation using spices and Harissa paste (a North African condiment). The chicken is sweet and spicy, and loaded with flavor. I was still able to personalize my bowl with different ingredients, and all the options were fresh. The staff was helpful, and efficient. I definitely recommend and would come back. The Harissa Chicken was a bit too spicy for my palate, so I would try another chicken style and would roll-my-own combination. The eggplant dip and roasted Brussel sprouts looked very appealing. Whew! Finally tried the infamous Cava and I was impressed. I was told by someone to start out with the kids meal because of the portions and just to figure out what works. It's was around $7 and included a small drink. Great deal! So that's what I did. I got the pita with chicken, pickles, feta and a garlic sauce. Omg... it was so good. Their chicken has a bit of spice to it. And I got 3 pita chips with hummus as my side. HANDS DOWN THE BEST PITA CHIPS EVER! They were so soft and buttery. They are worth a return trip alone. But the meal was very filling. I had a very small amount left and it was good as a snack the next day. Now that I know what I like, I'll go for an adult size next time... 2 meals in one! We order bowls from Cava frquently for delivery because we love the options to build your own bowl - 5 different greens, 4 grains, 6 dips, 6 meats, 14 "toppings" (mostly vegetables), 8 salad dressings and it all comes with free pita bread. The ingredients are fresh and the bowls are delicious, which is why reguarly order from Cava. HOWEVER, never in our long history of ordering delivery from Cava's Hoover location has the order been completely correct. Not once! Saturday night (6/14/25) was an epic fail. My husband's order did not have the harissa, the hummus or the "free" pita (a common occurrence). My Greens & Grains bowl had no lentils, there were no dips at all, only one salad dressing, half of the toppings and of course, no free pita. Literally half of our orders never made it into the bowls, so basically, we ordered a Big Mac and a Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese got a 2 plain hamburgers instead. Is anyone at Cava doing quality checks on delivery orders?! The service here is like they're doing you a favor? Whoever manages this spot may want to send surprise visitors in the eventings. Came in and the lentils were "out", no spicy meatballs at all for the night and harissa chicken was "out"... but while in line after getting the remaining options and the bottom of the barrel bits of chicken, I saw the lentils come out and heard the harissa chicken was going to come out. Asked to do my bowl over with the lentils now available and response was "ummmmmm okayyyyyy?". Why not just check when something is out and let the customer know they can wait for it. Also if you're wearing gloves what's the point if you touch everything else in sight? Cava is my alternative to Chipotle, but not sure it's a great alternative if ingredients are consistently missing when you go in. Disappointed in the general lack of consideration, cleanliness (cleaning counters and touching the cash register with the same gloves you're serving food with), and friendliness-- honestly you don't even have to be friendly just neutral with no attitude would be fine. This was our first time coming. It was a little different not knowing how things work until I saw the person in front of me. The place was pretty clean. I like that you can see the fresh vegetables and the array of items than can make up your meal. If I had a drawback, it would be that they don't scrape the bottoms of containers in front of the patrons. That's not a good look. We had the sweet and spicy chicken bowls and they were amazing. Update! I have now ordered 5 times doordash and one new in dining experience. The in store experience was fabulous. The place is immaculate and tastefully decorated. One of the cleanest places I have ever eaten. The service is kind and patient although you order at the register and they deliver to your table. The staff are wuite and professional unlike a similar service restaurant where they may act in chaos and loud. Not here. Almost a professional chef attribute in the kitchen. They also seem to take such pride in the sandwich making it looks like perfect art when it arrives. The ingredients are by far superior to anything you will expect. The freshest and most crisp lettuce. All ingredients are 10/10. Nothing was soggy or old. The pride and professionalism on my plate was noticeable. Free self refills and very clean and really classy updated bathrooms as well. This place is going places. No one else was in the store except a family checking out, but the staff couldn't be bothered to stop doing online orders to attend to the customer in the store. After I waited, I was told what I wanted was out for the night. The service was terrible. Another home, I ordered food & asked for sauce on the side.. they put the sauce on top of my bowl. I ordered for pick up on a Tuesday around 4:30. They had quite a few orders but the wait was around 8 minutes. I liked being able to order ahead of time especially when I feel like my order is very detailed. I got a bowl with greens, rice, tzatziki, humus, feta, pita crisps, and falafel as my choice of protein. I really enjoyed it! My first experience in CAVA was not as great as it has been recently. I always do chicken with falafel but lately I have been a little over eating chicken. The bowl was a perfect combination of textures, and it definitely felt like a healthier meal. The customer service was fine, but nothing truly stood out to me. I will say ordering falafel as your only results in a pretty small portion of protein. If you can spare the additional 3 dollars, you should. My order was definitely cheaper than it would be at Chipotle. I enjoyed it nonetheless and I would definitely go back. I don't think I'd eat inside because the eating area and tables are quite small. It was a bit loud at the time I went. Other than that, my experience was great! read more

They have a few prepared options on their menu, but they also have a customizable option where you can create your own bowl or wrap. I'd definitely say it is a healthier fast-casual option. All the ingredients looked very fresh, and the proportions were reasonable for the price. I had made my own bowl, and it came with a small side of pita bread. I usually don't go for Mediterranean food, but this was delicious. I should mention that I have been here before, and at first, I wasn't a fan. It took a few tries to really perfect what I liked in my bowl. This location was really nice and clean; however, it was very packed. I had ordered a pickup order and was waiting a good while for my food. I think the line ordering there went faster than the pickup line, so unless you'll take a while to pick your food up id recommend ordering there. The food at cava is always good, and fresh. Atmosphere is laid-back and the service is always friendly. Overall, a nine out of 10.

Poor sanitation practices. The food wasn't as fresh and the young woman wiped her face then proceeded to handle my lettuce with the same hand. This is my favorite place to go to in Maryland but the service has not translated well to Hoover, apparently. Young woman was quite rude and actually threatened me.
